.... for Jan  Aloe Blacc - Wake Me Up
Feeling my way through the darkness
Guided by a beating heart
I can't tell where the journey will end
But I know where to start

They tell me I'm too young to understand
They say I'm caught up in a dream
Well life will pass me by if I don't open up my eyes
Well that's fine by me

So wake me up when it's all over
When I'm wiser and I'm older
All this time I was finding myself
And I didn't know I was lost

I tried carrying the weight of the world
But I only have two hands
Hope I get the chance to travel the world
But I don't have any plans

Wish that I could stay forever this young
Not afraid to close my eyes
Life's a game made for everyone
And love is the prize

So wake me up when it's all over
When I'm wiser and I'm older
All this time I was finding myself
And I didn't know I was lost

Didn't know I was lost
I didn't know I was lost
I didn't know I was lost
I didn't know

Adding a song that I recently fell in love with too...

Jan,

It was so beautiful, that I thought I'd just head it up.

Thanks for sharing it with us (I'd never heard it).

Unknown said...

Hope your sleepy time tea helped last night, Carol.

... the only problem I have, is that if you wake me when I'm older, I may not wake at all. :)

I haven't been able to follow the story as closely as I'd like, and would be very interesting in hearing everyone's theory on the missing jet.

I don't feel like I have enough facts to even guess, at this point. But I am waiting with bated breath to see if any of those poor people made it.

And what in the world happened....

Carol said...

Don't have a clue about the jet Just weird!
I like the lyrics of that song also.
I
don't get much sleep it used to not bother me ,I'd think, I can sleep when I'm dead. But after listening to what little sleep can do to us, I changed my mind.

Carol said...

Jan, I still love the voice. Love the judges.

jan said...

Chloe, thanks for posting the lyrics to the song and especially for the link to hear it. I have listened to it several times and it just clicked with me - the music first and then the words. Although it is meant for a younger person, it speaks to me.

jan said...

Since the singer is going to be a coach on The Voice, I suspect Aloe will sing it sometime. I read it is a hit worldwide, so it has clicked with lots of people. I read that he lives in Los Angeles and born of Panamanean parents. He has a unique voice. He wrote the song on an airplane (I read). Aloe Blacc is not his birth name. I think it is Nathan ?. I wonder why he picked Aloe Blacc????

I've just added another song I really like, Jan.

I'm just learning how to get these youtubes songs over to a post here, and accidentally found out we can automatically add one on a post by itself by simply transferring it over directly from there.

Where it says share, it has a space to check 'blogger'.

I couldn't do this one I added that way, because it went to a completely new post. That freaked me out, but I was able to fix it. But there's an area to click when you're writing the post here to add a youtube video... or another destination video, as from your computer too. They've improved the program on blogger.

Learn something new every day.

Unknown said...

They may have found that missing jet, but of course there's no happy ending.

Jan, I read years ago that our taste in music doesn't change as we get older (necessarily). We like what we started out with.

I don't think there's young music and then different music for older adults. There's just music, and we like what we like.

jan said...

Chloe, interesting about our taste in music. I there is individually music that speaks to us. The last music that "spoke to me" was Halleluja. Can't spell. Carol liked that one too.

When we were in school in LA, Carol and I used to like some of same music. It was the '70s. Carpenters was very popular. Also I think one of Carol's favorites was by Carole King. Cannot remember name of song. I loved Rainy days and Mondays - our song when we drove every Monday to Pineville La for our psych nursing course.

Now, I love anything by Leonard Cohen. He wrote Hallelujah.

jan said...

I like anything by Willie Nelson but especially "You were always on my Mind."

jan said...

Chloe, you are a master at posting stuff. Thank you.

Chloe, love the song by Christina. Thought she would sing it alone, but the duet was great. She has an amazing voice.

Unknown said...

Jan, that song was originally performed and recorded by the male singer (who is also guy in the video. I originally heard it without Christina's voice in it, and it was every bit as amazing. Ian Axel has a voice that I really love, too.

You're right, Christina is an unbelievably talented singer. And she is the one that brought the song to everyone's attention, once she tied herself into it. Her fame is what made the song so wide spread.

The two's harmony is perfect... I've noticed that the more it's performed, the larger Christina's part becomes in it, because she is such a big draw.

Without her involvement, I doubt that we've even be talking about that song right now... never even heard it.

Unknown said...

Carol, Hope you got that laugh you were in need of.

Been there, done that.

Chloe… what a beautiful song!… thanks for posting it.

I grew up in a household that was filled with music. My father played the piano and he LOVED music…. all kinds except for country. When he was in a nursing home for the last couple months of his life, he had a Bose wave radio/cd player. He was lucky to have a room to himself… so all day long he played his beloved music. At the end mostly classical.

Now I LOVE all kinds except for country too.
But I will admit my favorite is still good ol' rock 'n' roll.

RebelliousRenee said...

As for the missing plane… I now wait until the facts come out in a story such as that. The news people jump all over every little bit of information and speculate all kinds of things early on in such situations…. most of which turns out to be false.

Carol… I've stopped watching the news… especially cable news. I don't have as much to say over on TrailMix… but I'm happier now.

Unknown said...

Hi, Renee. Haven't seen you in a while.

That story about your father is so touching. So happy for him that he got to hear his beloved music as much as wanted toward the end of his life.

Like you, Rock is still my favorite.

Unknown said...

I don't follow the news either, nor politics. Self preservation.

Still, I'm not shy about sharing an opinion off the top of my head, even though I probably don't have all the facts factored in.

Unknown said...

... ha! I don't need every single fact, anyway. :)

I always break things down into tiny, little parts. I like to think of them as separate issues.

I always take baby steps.

Ran across this article this morning, and it made me laugh so much. Maybe because it reminds me of myself, and my relationship to this computer (and the way I use it).

All by myself: is loneliness bad for you?

"As a writer, I came to appreciate the interview as conversation in its ideal form: I'd ask questions that would ordinarily be considered rude, while my subjects invariably asked nothing. When people say to my wife, "How can Will work alone all day in that dark room?" she tells them, "He loves it." And I do. It's safe in here, with the blinds pulled down. By writing, I get to talk, without the pressure of the listening face. My deepest intimacies are shared with the blank page on my computer screen. I confide in it things I keep from my own family. In a way, you're my closest friend...

But having almost no social connections triggers strange symptoms. Like, I'm drawn to public transport. The top deck of the bus is the perfect party: enveloped in the comfort of the crowd, yet safe in the knowledge that no one will speak to me (and I'll not be sorely judged for preferring not to speak to them). After days of not talking to anyone except my wife, I'll sometimes find myself unable to stop. An editor will phone and I'll pour words down the receiver, fast and burbling, only to be left with a hot combination of embarrassment and exhilaration when it's over. On the occasions I do socialise, and it goes OK, I'll feel so high that I struggle to sleep. I'm obsessed with reality TV. Contestants on Big Brother come to feel like friends. I care more about Imran on the Fried Chicken Shop than I do my own neighbour...

Loneliness is a passive compulsion; to binge, I need only do nothing.

Unknown said...

LOL... loved that binge line!

It's kinda a long article, but worth at least scanning.

Another quote: 'As a writer, my deepest intimacies are shared with the blank page on my computer screen. I confide in it things I keep from my own family. In a way, you are my closest friend.'

...sounds like blogging. :)

That article has made my day! The guys is soooo funny!

Unknown said...

Explains so much.

Unknown said...

I love the internet!

Coreen said...

Chloe,

'All by myself: Is loneliness bad
for you?'

Not sure about the writer's intent, but for me it would be a distinction between 'alone or lonely'...

Carol said...

You can fell lonelyin a crowd. I have before. It's the quality of yor company, not the quanty.
Keep yor eyes on the skies Chloe. Texas and la are under a severe weather threat. Everyone else cold stuff. I showed roomy where our most safe space in the house is and there is none at the tree house, just close your eyes and pray.

Unknown said...

I agree, Coreen.
A huge distinction loneliness and aloneness.

That's what made the article so funny to me. I love being alone, and can go ages and not feel lonely. I prefer aloneness often.

The part I quoted where he made a choice to be around lots of people, but hoped they wouldn't talk to him... I could completely relate to.

My most precious, quality time is usually when I'm alone.

Carol said...

Chloe,I never found your link to the song you fell in love with. where is it??

When I worked at the jail every day ,I appreciated my alone time. No more.

Unknown said...

Carol,
Glad your roomy will be there with you today.

I don't worry about storms up where we are (unless a tree falls on the house!).

That, and losing power. I'm going to go out and check the generator in a few minutes to make sure it's going to start in case we lose power, though.

Those two things are my only concern... except for the animals. But those not in the house all have safe places to hide.

I've noticed so many bird already this year. They're embedded in the thickest tree's and brush throughout the area, but a bad storm will surely rattle them up. I'm just hoping for the best.

Cold air hitting warm air always causes problems.

Carol,
That video I linked was deactivated from youtube. They do that on the popular recordings sometimes.

I download the song (a slightly different version) on the top of the post again, but I didn't delete the old video, because it's all in code and I'm afraid I'll delete more than just the video... so I'm playing it safe.

I downloaded the song onto my Ipod from ITunes. The video came from youtube.

Chloe…
When I first decided to make my weaving hobby into a full time business, the thing I was most concerned about was how I would feel about working alone. For years I worked a part-time job as a cashier in a local convenience store for some extra cash and because I loved the customers. I had a hard time with being alone for the first couple years…. but then I learned to love it. Now I'm not sure I could go back to seeing so many people… and I know I could never go back to working for someone else.

I do make sure I get out with Rick and friends… but I rarely feel lonely nowadays.

RebelliousRenee said...

Coreen…
gee… that little "dustup" just passed by me…

yup… I'm rolling my eyes over the whole episode. Especially the part in one of those articles that made it into a liberal vs conservative thing. I'm so over turning everything into politics.

hey… it's just opinions… one all sides… and you know what they say… like a**holes, everyone has one.

jan said...

As for the "alone" time thing. I love my alone time. One of the good things about being with someone for a long time is that we can carve out alone time without offending the other person. At least that works for me with John. Our evenings sometimes remind me of 2 year old children in parallel play. We each do our own thing and may say nothing to each other for hours.

jan said...

Renee, as I grow older I find I seldom enjoy being in groups of people. I like one on one time with someone on occasion. At work I get plenty of interaction with others. Maybe when I completely retire I will look for interaction with others. Who knows?

Carol said...

Did you have any rough weather today Chloe. We didn't yet. Ours comes tonight or tomorrow.

Carol said...

Chloe, do you know any really good suspenseful movies on Netflix?

Unknown said...

No rough weather here, Carol.
I heard a strong storm moving this way this morning, but it got within about four miles (I count seconds between lightening and thunder) and then headed off some other way.

We have had plenty of rain, but nothing destructive or problematic. I always welcome rain, even more so since that drought and the resulting fires a while back. An unusual situation here.

Truth is I've always love rain, but in Southern California there never was enough of it. Here there is 'usually' plenty, and I still love it.

Sun and rain. Love 'em both.

Unknown said...

I'm going to go to Netflix and see if I can link a list of 'Suspence' movies. They're my favorite's too.

Who done its! Like being on the edge!

Unknown said...

... sorry I can't credit this, but it wasn't credited online.

Sun and Rain

If the world were rain and never sun,
no rainbow in the sky would glow;
if the world were sun and never rain,
there would be now rainbow to know.

If all were woe and never bliss,
no smile would one extend;
if all were bliss and never woe,
smile's redundancy would ascend.

If life be strife until the end
then sun and rain, woe and bliss,
are rife until the final blend
of pain and pleasure's final kiss.

Carol said...

I think loneliness contributed to my medical issues.

Unknown said...

Carol,

By 'if I had the connection' are you talking about your suspected connection between loneliness and the stroke?

You may be on to something. Although, I may think of it as a loss of hope too.

Whatever it is, I'm just glad you're on the right track now. Move forward.

The first link didn't work. I'll try again: Suspense movies on Neflix

Somehow, I've manage to turn a perfectly good morning into a stressful morning.

Unknown said...

The inability to feel joy, as well as extreme sadness is depression. I think most of us experience it to some degree at some time in our life. I know I have plenty of times. Not so much the lack of joy, as the extreme sadness.

Unknown said...

I know you're on the right road, because you are able to define it and you're making the right connections.

Your intelligence (and sense of humor and irony) are what has always most attracted me to your personality. You'll always come out on top in the end.

We both 'feel' things (I think) as much as we 'think'. It's not an easy way to live.

Unknown said...

Later today (or tomorrow) we'll go over everything Amazon. It's easier than Neflix, if anything.

What isn't free on Netflix is usually free on Amazon... and vice versa.

Brand new series (especially hits) cost, but only $1.99 an episode, usually. They're well worth the price, if you're hooked on the series. If not, you can wait a season and see them for free.

Me, I'm not a (good) wait-er.

Carol said...

Carol and Chloe, reading what you two have been saying on here.

Carol, reading about how you think that lack of connection with friends contributed or was cause of your stroke. I believe that too.

Chloe said that she thinks that led to some depression - or maybe you said that- (sometimes I get wrong who said what). It is so good that you are reaching out to people now - your roommate - and it sounds like others too.

It seems to me too that Chloe has been a wonderful friend to you too in several ways.

Carol, Back when you were visiting your family in Washington, you saw the movie Nebraska. You asked us here to let you know what we thought of it when we saw it. We rented it tonight. The most immediate thing that comes to mind for me is "What a good son." I think the son was trying to do something for his father, but he got a lot more out of the experience than he knew. I think the best moment for me was when the son punched the other old guy in the bar. I jumped up and clapped when the son did that. My favorite character was the mother. She did come across as a real bitch, but she loved the old guy. It was a story about a family. All families have warts and this one sure did. Boy, people really come out of the woodwork when there is money, don't they? I am glad we rented the movie.

jan said...

Another favorite part was when the 2 brothers returned the compressor to the barn.

Well that is enough for me. I hope for the rest of you all that this was not a spoiler alert. Sorry if it is.

jan said...

Carol, Your friendship has always meant a lot to me.

Unknown said...

Kinda depends on your environmental circumstances.

I think most everything depends on environmental circumstance at any particular time. Guess that means it's important to control our environment.

Unknown said...

Jan, I enjoyed hearing your interpretation of the movie. Thanks for sharing it.

Our interpretation of anything is probably more important than the actual thing, in my humble opinion.

Yesterday afternoon I saw a little pup in the back yard nose to noseto nose with Fiddler. T I think they knew each other. I went out to investigate and the pup ran off. I sent Lisa, roomy out to see if she could catch the pup. It ran over into the neighbors yard. I called all the neighbors to see if any had a limitless pup that was missing. It's a small yorkie not a dog you would think anyone would let run off. Lisa saw the dog headed for one neighbor who had kids in the yard. Sh e thought it might belong there. I called the home owner latter and he said the yorkie didn't belong to anyone there. I worried about the pup since it was wet cold and windy outside. Later when I went out to feed Fiddler, I saw the dog in the back yard and snagged it. It spent the night in Maggie's tent.

I'll get someone to help me bring it to the vet today and check for a chip or tattoo. No collar. It's small and appears young. I found one neighbor who has a yorkie. She had 2 but one died. Maybe she needs this one.

Fiddler seemed distresses that I brought the pup in. I think she thought the pup was hers.

I don't need a new pup right now with my injured wing. Very painful to use my right hand/ arm. Don't want to go back to that ortho since he made no effort to even look in at me.

jan said...

Carol, I hope the dog has a chip. If not I hope someone claims the little dog. You and Lisa are very kind to go to the trouble to find its home. Let us know how things go for the pup. I agree that you don't need another dog at this time with your injuries.

Can you find another ortho?

RebelliousRenee said...

Carol… I agree with Jan… hopefully the pup has a chip or maybe someone has reported a lost Yorkie to the area vets. Puppiedom is hell…. the only upside is that they're so cute. Good on you and Lisa for so kind to it though. Good luck.

Carol said...

Jan I sent you some pics of the pup. She's less than a year old and female. I keep her in one of my bedrooms in Maggie's tent. She's ququiet most of the time. Yorkist are know fo lots off barking. I don't care for a noiisie dog. Barkin give me a headache.. Maggie is being good. I haven't let them play together much. Maybe tonight.

It would seem that this could prove to be an unwise move by this administration to say the least...

Can you please email them to my chloe@doubt.com address and we'll see if I can get them on my computer that way.

Once they're on my computer, we're home free. Your pup is so cute, and we need everyone to see her.

Have you named her... or are you waiting to make sure no one claims her?
