Can't change the weather, just have to deal with it...

An email this a.m. from one of my Florida friends just to remind me!..

Birthday flowers & Christmas flowers...along with one of my curious kitties...well the flowers were sitting on one of her tables!...

Ducks that I see every day when I leave the house, around the corner a neighbor has a little duck pond...so far these 3 are still there (well they were before this week's snow, hopefully they will be when I do venture out beyond, but not just yet, it was 2 this a.m., now it's
20)

The same Canoe Brook Lake this fall...

And a Westport sunset at Compo Beach, courtesy of the Westport News, that I wanted to share...

RebelliousRenee said...

Coreen… thanks for the lovely pictures.
I don't mind the snow… but I will admit it's awfully cold outside right now.

I see your cat is eyeing the baby's breath. My cat, Peanut, loves to take that stuff out of the vase and spread it all over the place… little brat!

Carol… Go Saints! :)

Carol said...

I worry about the old people with those cold temps. They could freeze to death in their homes if they don't have gas heat or a fireplace.

Renee, you have more faith in the Saints than I do. I will be watching whichever.

Carol said...

Nice to see some warmer looking pics Coreen. Dreaming of Spring.

jan said...

Coreen, Love the pictures. The snow people with bathing suits are great. Love the ducks. You take great pictures.

Ya'all come on down to ABQ. It is almost 60 here - sun is shining. John's son, Bill, just did a run and some working out in back.

Carol said...

We got in the 60s today also and I'm still in log johns. Habit.

RebelliousRenee said...

Carol…
Ha!… I told you the Saints would win...

Carol said...

We barely won but that's good enough. Now we have to play the Seahawks again. Last time they played I had to watch it in a bar full of Seattlites. Next week I will watch with a room full of Who Dats. who Hoo!

Carol said...

Spoles, AKA, Mighty Mouse, played well lasts night. He'slittle but he can squeeze thru a crowd of guys. Did you watch Renee? Ingram finally did something. I was never impressed by him before.

Who do the Pats play Renee and when?

Carol said...

Packers/Green Bay game should be miserable for all involved. terrible time to have playoffs.

This weather kinda makes me think we are in for a new ice age.

RebelliousRenee said...

Carol…
I always watch every playoff game… I LOVE FOOTBALL!

I thought the Saints managed the last 4 minutes of the game brilliantly… that's what good teams do. Although I gotta say, the Eagles new QB, Foles, impresses me. In a few yrs he will be the new shiny star… while T. Brady and P. Manning will be fading.

RebelliousRenee said...

The Patriots will be playing at home on the Saturday night game next week. If the Bengals win this afternoon, we will play them. If they lose, we will play the Colts.

I will be rooting for the Packers… but I'm sure glad I will be watching in the comfort of my own home.

Jan & Chloe… forgive us… we MUST talk football at playoff time… :)

Carol said...

downton abbey starts tonight. it will interfer with the packer's game, time wise.

RebelliousRenee said...

Well… it's been decided.

Once again the Bungals… er.. I mean the Bengals bungled a playoff game. The Patriots will be playing the Colts Saturday night.

Carol… I hope you (and anyone else here) really enjoy the new season of Downtown Abbey. I don't watch it… but I do enjoy reading the posts about it.

jan said...

John watched the Saints game last night. I was doing some hand sewing so was keeping up with the score although not actually watching the plays. John got nervous the last few minutes waiting for the Saints to make that field goal. Glad the Saints won.

jan said...

No question for me. I will be watching Downton Abbey tonight. Can hardly wait.

I have come down with a cold. My first one in 2 years. I guess it was time. John has one too - his started sooner so I guess he gave it to me. I woke up at 3:30 am with raw throat. Got up and took an ibuprofen and crashed on the couch. Ryley got up and slept on couch with me. I am feeling a little better today.

jan said...

Renee, no need to apologize for talking football. I now keep up with the teams you all root for and I do the same.

jan said...

Carol, glad you are home to watch your Saints. You do sound in better spirits.

Carol said...

I'm trying to watch the Packers but knowing hoe cold it is there makes me hurt how do they do it? I bet punting smarts. Ever stabbed a cold toe?

Carol said...

Hit the vitamin C hard Jan. It works to reduce the duration. Did for me.

Carol said...

The game should be over before D A starts.

A Trans-Atlantic
Romance Continues

jan said...

Coreen, Thank you for the little article on D.A. Most interesting! We Americans, or like we are called in Argentina, Norte Americanos - like our little romantic soap operas.

jan said...

I think Julian Fellowes has figured us out.

jan said...

Carol, thanks for the vit C tip. Here I go. I do have plenty of it. I am also drinking lots of fluids and eating chicken soup -really!.

I am alternating ibuprofen and tylenol for the discomforts. I hope to go back to work Tuesday. I will probably stay home tomorrow as I don't have any appts.

Carol said...

Renee, you get the Colts and we have the Seahawks. I'll trade.

Carol said...

I think the Swahawks will be in the Super Bowl. Saint would have to pull off a miracle to bet them but I do believe in miracles.

Carol said...

A couple of years ago when we were plying much better we had to play the Seahawks in the playoffs and lost.

Carol said...

I found myself confused through most of DA. Maybe I'll watch it again.

Unknown said...

Ha, Renee,
Enjoy all the posts, just don't know enough to add to the sports comments.

Am rooting for you guys, though!

Unknown said...

Coreen!

Another beautiful set of pictures... love the change of season. You've become a really exquisite photographer, and I (for one) appreciate you sharing Connecticut with us. Thanks.

Carol said...

Chloe, are you as over winter as I am ? I feel quilty complaining with all the bitter stuff up north. Seattle was not really that bad by comparison to other places up north. It was actually close to our cold temps most of the time. rain wasn't too bad either. What they have is an occasional drizzle not rain like we have here.

Well what did you guys think of Dowton Abbey last night? Jan where are you. My iPad has a microphone where I can talk and it will write not always the right thing though. I want somebody to slap me if i ever complain of the heat again.

Today I need to go get a recliner for my house here one just like the one at the camp. I also need to get a new bed because I need to start sleeping in a bed. Does anyone have a Tempur-pedic bed? Do you like it?

RebelliousRenee said...

Carol…
We bought one of those new foam beds several yrs ago. We looked at a Tempur-pedic. Didn't choose it because it's very soft and you sink into it. If you are someone who sleeps hot at night (I definitely am), it's not the bed for you.

Instead we chose something from Simmons called the Phenom. It's harder and has a venting system to keep you cooler at night. In a few words… WE LOVE IT!

I was waking up every morning with hip pain from our old coil mattress. And trying to sleep on my back… forget about it. But with this new bed… my pain has vanished. We both can sleep comfortably no matter what position we're in.

I highly recommend a foam mattress. And I also highly recommend the pillows… they're a bit pricey, but worth every penny, IMO.

Carol said...

My kitchen and old bathroom hot water pipes froze lat night. I can't believe I didn't leave them dripping. What I dummy I am. I may have to wait for the spring thaw. My new bathroom is ok so I can take a shower.

jan said...

enjoyed D. A. last night. It was a bit confusing but I think I got it. Carol, what did you find confusing. Maybe I can help.

Renee, About 3-4 years ago we bought a 3-4 inch foam topper for our mattress at Costco. It works great and was a lot cheaper than an new mattress. However, we are due a new mattress. Good to hear about yours.

Unknown said...

Carol, I feel the same way about winter as you do, and I can't wait for it to be over.

I think you need a bed that will suit your needs and it's probably best if you lay on them and try 'em. We got an extra firm a few years back, and love it. Don't get nearly the pulled muscles and sleep well on it. (I particularly don't like to hear any squeaks in a mattress). It's not good to only sleep in the chair, you need to lay in different positions on different surfaces.

Unknown said...

I've decided to wait a bit and stream DA from Amazon once I've finished the series I'm watching (and love) JUSTIFIABLE.

I prefer to see the whole series all at once, although I know most of you like it better by the week.

A series I finished and think you might like is The Glades (on Netflix). It's about crime and solving murder cases, but is a lot lighter and the guy in it is pretty funny. I think most of the ones I like you find depressing, but you may want to take a look at Glades and see what you think. (?)

I'm so hooked on Justified right now, that I'm not in a hurry to see DA yet. But once I start it, I know I'll be deeply into it again. I'm fickle!

... and boy, oh boy, is that Timothy Olyphant nice to look at. I've spent hours loving that series, and he may be the main reason. http://www.modbee.com/2014/01/02/3114263/modestos-olyphant-returns-for.html

Actually love the whole series. Elmore Leonard was involved and the characters are classic E.L. characters. They're always laughable.

Unknown said...

Well, I should clarify. Laughable and mean. Probably meaner and dumber than they are funny. But still, his writing is magical.

Coreen said...

My Florida friends think they are cute...

And yes, it was 56 this a.m. dense fog, snow is gone, but it is about to drop to 0 with
below zero wind chills overnite & high of 12 for Tuesday...

This is a what they sent me today...

ND weather report (not PG or PC)

Know you will appreciate this weather report...finally a weather report that didn't take 10 minutes to explain with all kinds of graphics, maps & words that you have no clue what they mean...from a reservation TV station in North Dakota...

Coreen said...

As far as Downton...thought it picked up smoothly from last season...

I still like Granny the best...she delivers the best lines...& dowager or not, she makes the most sense...

Coreen said...

Oh & forgot to mention, it rained most of today, ended about 3 pm, so whatever doesn't get blown dry before the temps plunge overnite will freeze again & yesterday there was freezing rain, made the roads really slippery, really fast...

jan said...

Coreen, loved the ND weather alert. John did too.

Carol said...

Talk about telling it like it is in ND. If I can hold out a couple more days, it will be warming up here I've already got my water dripping so it doesn't freeze again. I'll know later this week if I've sprung any leaks. I had my truck radiator flushed and new antifreeze put in. Wasn't taking any chances with my luck. I went to buy a recliner this afternoon and when I was leaving I back into a parked car. Not much damage thak God.

Carol said...

It will be in the teens here tonight. That's unusual for us.

jan said...

Carol, stay warm.

Carol said...

Will got thru another cold one and the temps should be going up for a while. tWC has turned into a horror channel. I can barely stand to watch it anymore

Carol said...

I checked into a tempupedi ergo, that's one that changes positions ,legs and head go up. I liked it all except the price that was over 5000 dollars. Well, I can't take it with me. . That may be what it takes to be able to sleep in a bed again. I'm tired of sleeping in a chair. I will get my new recliner today. It will be an improvement over the recliner on my couch. The legs on my couch recliner don't go down easily and try to sit down in it the other day, I missed and slammed my tail bone on the arm rest. I added a new pain to my list of aches, pain in the ass.

Has anyone explained why we are having this ice age?? How are our snow bunnies doing??

TW WILL BE DISAPPOINTED THAT Florida won last night. I watched some of the game but lost interest.
Now I just have to worry about the Seahawks. Maybe. the third time is a charm. The Saints lost the last two meetings with them.

RebelliousRenee said...

Coreen…. toooooooo funny!

"Has anyone explained why we are having this ice age??"

Carol… it's winter…

The temps will be moderating in a few days. Who knows… maybe it'll be abnormally warm the rest of the season. Just be thankful that you wake up every morning and see what's happening.

Coreen said...

Renee, yes it's winter, but it is extreme, & I like your explanation more than those who are doing their best to jump through hoops to attribute this to global warming oh no you can't say that anymore, now it's 'climate change'...

tied records this a.m. in some towns locally, but not others...anyway it was 6 outside my door, but the wind is what is brutal...the sun is shining & the sky is blue, not a cloud in sight...& again thankfully the snow is gone...

Renee do you still have snow cover...

All in all we are managing, just thinking about the Midwest makes it seem not so bad...

Carol, the weather channel ceased being well a weather channel awhile ago, when it started to
showcase personality, not weather & since nbc/Comcast took over it is really not watchable...

Coreen said...

Carol, hope if you do shop for a new bed, you do go out & try them...

I would consider getting one of the beds that go up/down if/when I get a new bed, they operate with remote, it is quiet & it has a massage movement too...My mom & other family have had them for several years...

Also, would you consider one of the recliners that lift you up & out, again mom has one & so do friends, makes it a lot easier as one ages...If you have a medical supply store in the area, you might try one out there...

Carol said...

I saw one of those chairs at the furniture store yesterday but I'm not ready for that. I do need to get some exercise.

Yes Renee, it's winter but this is ridiculous, especially for my area. I tolerate the heat so I don't have to deal with these su freezing temps.

RebelliousRenee said...

Coreen… we still have 3-4 inches of snow left. Although now it's more like frozen white ice.

My dad had one of those lifting recliners… my brother bought it for him. At first he hated it… didn't want to admit he really needed it. But eventually he grew to love it and thanked my brother.

jan said...

Carol, ditto others on the bed. It is better for your body to sleep on a bed than in a chair or couch, for circulation and respiratory effects.

Carol said...

The furniture store just called and offered to take off another 300 dollars on the bed. I'm seriously thinking about it.

jan said...

I too believe the coldness is merely cyclical. Some winters are just colder than others. We have had some warmer winters in past few years.

jan said...

Did you try out the bed?

jan said...

Carol, I think you might be feeling the cold more than you have in the past because you have had an insult to your body.

Carol said...

Yes I did try the bed out in the store but that's no the same as sleeping in it.

Carol said...

We start warming up tomorrow. Hooray.

Carol said...

I have not heard of anyone who didn't like their tempurpedid bed. Have any of you? I know Renee thouht it was too hot.

RebelliousRenee said...

Carol…
we bought our foam bed in Sleepy's. The sales clerk asked us questions about our sleeping habits. When I told him that I always run hot at night and throw the covers off even in the dead of winter, he told me that a tempur-pedic wouldn't be the bed for me. He said that you sink in it and it retains your body heat. He suggested we get the Phenom instead.

Not only do I recommend trying out different beds, but I'd go to a store where the clerks have knowledge about sleeping habits. The foam beds are wonderful… but as you've found out… expensive. Make sure you buy the correct one for you.

RebelliousRenee said...

Carol…
I'd also recommend that you do some research here on the internet. Just google "pros and cons of foam mattresses"… you'll get plenty of info.

Coreen said...

I'd consider Renee's tips Carol...looks like there is infinite choice & differences...made my head spin, just trying to look up what types of bedding is available...

Came across this that may offer some comparisons/suggestions since you have been checking this out already...I wouldn't want to be looking for a bed w/o knowing what all these different selections mean...
Sleep like the Dead

Carol said...

They have a new mattress cover for the tempurpedic that allows air flow and keeps you cooler. It must have been a problem for others I'm sure it costs more.

Carol said...

Renee..."it's winter". When did you get to be a smart ass?

It certainly isn't our typical winters. I'm still waiting for the thaw to see if any pipe will need to be replaced. We aren't prepared for this extreme cold.

Carol said...

Jan was it the second line you liked best?

I got my new recliner but it is not as soft as my other one.

Carol said...

Chloe, what is Justifiable about and where are you weatchin it?

jan said...

Carol, don't know what you mean about what line I liked??

jan said...

Carol, do you mean in D. A. this past episode? if so, I don't remember specific lines. I think the Grande Dame was great in that she told her son to "bug off" essentially. She was in favor of Lady Mary becoming involved in the estate.

jan said...

I wish my memory was better in remembering more details.

jan said...

I think when we get replacement mattress, I would like the adjustable bed. We both like to read in bed.

jan said...

Carol, since I have been taking Prilosec, my reflux has almost disappeared.

Carol said...

That's great Jan about your reflux. You may want to talk to your medical practitioner about how much longer you should take it considering that it can cause loss of calcium from hips.

We are above freezing this morning. Hooray.

Carol said...

I just got back from checking the pipes at the camp. Most of the water pipes are theses heavy duty red and blue thick rubber. My contractors told me they wouldn't burst. But I had PVC going to the camp and it will burst easily. I was sure there would be water spewing from that pipe but it wasn't. That was a miracle sine it was18 degrees the other night. Thank you God. I went out there yesterday and the cold water wouldn't run. Ii knew something was frozen.

Carol, I think you might have a quick link on your Verizon Smart TV for Amazon streaming (the new Verizon's do). I'll link JUSTIFIED, which you will see is going on Season One. If you have Prime already (and I think you said you did), then it will all be free to stream. (Season 5 is just now being made though)

Have you read Elmore Leonard. If so, you find this to be EL classic.
http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&page=1&rh=n%3A2858778011%2Ck%3Ajustified.

Unknown said...

BTW, my Sharp doesn't have a click link to Amazon, so I got a Roku (which doesn't require you to have a smart TV) and I download to it. The Roku 2 is relatively inexpensive and is easy to operate, once you get it set up.

Your Verizon or Blue Ray should download automatically, if you have a link set up. Remember, watching it on your computer (which you can do for free also with your Prime) is not the same as watching it on TV. Not enjoyable, imo.

Unknown said...

Good luck on your bed hunting. Hope you get used to your chair soon. When you switch from a soft one, it takes some getting used to, but will probably be preferable once you get used to it. Use that warm throw you got!

Unknown said...

My favorite is still Netflix (I've been using it for a lot longer), but Amazon seems to have made a giant leap forward lately in getting the rights to show a lot of the new stuff. They're a tough competitor.

I love everything Amazon, though, and that free Prime stuff is wonderful. I spend way too much time there, but they've got me hooked in every way. I depend on them.

Unknown said...

(I always need a helping hand, a shoulder to lean on... and Amazon has filled that need)

Unknown said...

... oh, and glad the pipes are fixed. We had to fix our generator when we took the last hit, but things are working well now and the pipes are doing well.

I guess you've noticed we'll be up to 70 or so in several days... working our way there slowly but surely. Relief is on the way!

Carol said...

Chloe, I don't have a verizon smart tv. I have a Visio. I just have Verizon MiFi for internet.
I did sleep ok in my new chair. I'm going to wait on the bed for now. Too much to think about and the chair is working for now. It limits my tossing and turning so I don't injure something wrestling in the bed
I am sleeping on my heated throw. It keeps me nice and warm.

Unknown said...

Carol,

I meant Vizeo. I always mix those two companies up. Vizeo is probably the best seller TV now. They have good prices, so that's what we got Emma for her setup.

I'm glad that Easy Chair is working out, so you have time to think about what bed you want, without feeling rushed. Stress you don't need. I've been working hard on keeping my stress level down (it doesn't take much to get me going) and am getting better at it. Stress, real or imagined is a killer. Therefore, I recommend you go easy on yourself, no matter what (which is the same thing I'm learning to do.... maybe a little too easy?.... but what the hell).

Unknown said...

... get used to one new thing at a time. Remember what happened with all the new electronics at the same time. Overload is no good (causes more stress)!

Be good to yourself! If you aren't, no one else will be either. Love you, Carol. Glad to see that the baby steps are coming along.

Carol said...

Thanks Chloe. I'm good at taking it easy, now.

RebelliousRenee said...

Chloe… I haven't read Elmore Leonard. I did pick up one of his books for a quarter at our yearly boy scouts' yard sale this past summer. Sturg mentions him quite a bit. I haven't read that book yet… I'll make a point of getting to it soon.

Carol… if you sleep with a heated throw than the tempurpedic shouldn't be a problem for you. The problem I have of overheating at night happens in about 14% of the population. Sounds like you're in the majority 86%. I could NEVER sleep with a heated throw. I can barely stand a thin blanket even in sub zero degree weather. Right now is a good time to buy a bed as there's usually good deals.

RebelliousRenee said...

Yesterday Rick and I went to NH's largest city, Manchester. We went to the art museum. They're doing a special exhibit of African textiles. It was great! There were computer screens set up showing people doing the weaving. I couldn't believe the beautiful things they were making on really simple and primitive looms. And man… they were not afraid of color.

My favorite piece was a ceremonial shawl that was given to and worn by President Clinton when he visited Ghana. It was woven in greens, yellows, and browns with very fine rayon.

We had a great day topped off with going to a really nice restaurant.

Carol said...

Renee, I used to get hot all the time until i got my rhyroid blasted. now i seem to be cool to cold all the time. I'm taking a good size dose of thyroid replacement along with dozens of other meds..too many

Carol said...

Jan, you said you shopped at Target. Did your bank cancel the card you used or did you use cash. I used my debit card twice while on vacation and my back cancelled that card for my protection. What luck?

Unknown said...

Renee, Elmore Leonard isn't for everyone, and like everything else, takes some time to warm up to. I've read everything he's written, and heard a bunch of his books on cassette (which would now be on disc)way back when. I did that, because I used to do a lot of driving, and they were done by actors that did a good job... so they made the driving time go faster.

I haven't been reading much lately, and will soon be in hunt of some new authors. Anyone here want to share their favorites?

Unknown said...

Surprised they cancelled that card without consulting you, Carol. They should be sending you a new one automatically.

I change the number on mine every so often for security reasons, anyway. Anytime I've been using it a lot on line, or have an uneasy feeling. I could never get along without it, though. I use it even at McDonalds. A lot faster everywhere, than waiting for change

Unknown said...

The banks have been really good about keeping their eyes open for fraud... and I, for one, really appreciate that.

Our banks (whom I love) said they wouldn't hold anyone responsible for fraudulent charges connected to the Target problem (or any others for that matter). I've begun to feel very secure in using my card.

Unknown said...

banks=bank (not plural, just have one)

Unknown said...

Have a good day, everyone!

Looking forward to the football games this weekend but then it's going to be all over except for the superbowl.

RebelliousRenee said...

Chloe…
I read everyday… there are books strewn all around my house. When I married Rick, he was a librarian.
A few of my favorite authors are: anything by Margaret Atwood… anything by Joanne Harris… and anything by Richard Russo. That ought to keep you busy for awhile… :)

RebelliousRenee said...

Carol…
My heart will be with your Saints this Saturday…. but… if I were laying my money down on a bet, I'd have to go with the Seahawks.

No… there's another week of games you've left off.
This week will determine who gets to play for the AFC and NFC titles. Following week… those title games get played. 2 weeks later, they finally play the Super Bowl.

Unknown said...

Thanks, Renee!

I'm meeting up for Mexican Food right now (lunch is always our biggest meal), and then when I get back I plan on going on over to Amazon and checking your recommendations out.

I was getting pretty desperate for new authors and I truly appreciate the help.

Carol said...

Chloe I just went back to read some of your posts and yo mentioned The a Glades. I watched all of the episodes of that series and was very disappointed when it was over.

Carol said...

I thought the main character was soo cut. I think Coreen would like him. He's her type of guy

Carol said...

It was a nice warm day today. I put on my long johns not realizing how warm it was going to br. I went grocery shopping and could barely wait to get home to get those long johns off. Now I have a little chill. Don't know why. All my bones are aching. It's a sign of the weather changing. Suppose to rain tonight. My body is a barometer.

Has anyone else seen Nebraska? If so, what did you think of it? It's difficult to watch if you have anyone in the family with dementia. I did miss the end which was pleasant. I may have liked it better if I had seen it.

Antone have any other movie reviews. Jan? Chloe? You guys go to the movies all the time. What have you seen?

Unknown said...

Carol, the Glades I haven't seen is the last season. I'm waiting 'til it's all on streaming. Yes, he is really cute. I looked him up on Wiki and wouldn't you know it, he's Australian. The series was light and humorous, although some serious content. I like it.

Unknown said...

We saw American Hustle at the theater last week, and I really liked it. Thought I wouldn't because of the time line, but thought it clever and often funny.

If I remember correctly, Jan seems to have seen a lot of movies recently and can probably lead you in the direction of some you might enjoy. I'm waiting to see what's opening tomorrow. We may go if anything looks good.

BTW, more rain on the way, but it will keep getting warmer for a while. The dampness can make you feel chilled though, even though the temp is up. Dress in removable layers!

Carol said...

I am going to try to use my microphone to post a comment. Another goal of mine and now is to try to drink enough water every day which is 8 to 10 glasses. The best I've done so far is 58 ounce bottles of water and that was almost impossible to drink. Do you drink 8 to 10 glasses of water a day? I almost gag trying to do it

Carol said...

The microphone works fairly well. I still have trouble typing with my left hand and hits the wrong letters. I am trying to practice. The microphone works better.

Carol said...

I need Soler's email address so I can add him to our contributors. I only have an old email address. I need some of his suggestions for stretching and the exercises to improve my body.

I've decided that my goal is to organize my two plces. I'm researdhing where to find proffessionl help. Organizaion is not im my DNA.

Unknown said...

Carol, I don't like drinking water either. And, like you, I'd gag trying to drink as much as you're talking about. I'm not even convinced it's that necessary.

Solar wanted his Tai Chi post brought over from TM. I'm going to look for it over their later and link it here. Then I'm hoping someone will post it for him as a lead post. Meantime, when he sends you his email, you can set him up. But he may want someone else to link it until he remembers all the details of how.

Great day, everyone!

Carol said...

wasn't Solar talking about the benifits of tai chi? Does he have a video that he recommends?

RebelliousRenee said...

Carol…
can't help you with movie reviews. We go to very few and rarely go at this time of year.

The weather up here is going to get warmer too starting tomorrow. The kickoff for the Patriots game is 8:15pm EST…. and it's suppose to be 50 degrees and pouring rain.

Rick skied all day yesterday and probably will be doing so today. Cuz next week it's going to be too warm even at night for the areas to make snow.

We have seen Gravity and another I cannot remember. I guess I was not impressed. Gravity was a cliffhanger from beginning to end. John and I were exhausted after the movie.

My favorites lately were "We are the Millers". Very funny.

We rented "The Heat" and "Identity thief." Both very funny.

That is it for me.

Jan I couldn't tolerate thinking that somebody was lost in space floating out there it would be too stressful. There are a lot of movies that I want to see that won't come to our theaters here. Nebraska hasn't gotten here yet.

Since I don't have a job I decide to make my life a job I making myself a strict schedule of what I must do every hour. That will keep me busy and out of trouble.

Carol,

I can see the comments sometimes....but i can't comment on the pc that I use all of the time...i have to switch to this pc.

My e-mail is the same: pnsolarcrete@gmail.com

What do I find when i do check in to catch up on what you all are talking about......THIS:

"I think Coreen would like him. He's her type of guy"

There is no type of guy for Coreen, unless it is Solar....that is in the RULE BOOK....page 112 2nd paragraph...

About light stretching and tai-chi...im going to find a video that i saw and liked a lot...i incorporated it into the one that i do.

This combination is great for the body, mind and spirit....don't do anything until i post it. you can use the link to find it..even if it isn't highlighted...i want to get you strong again....and if you will let me....i promise that you will be riding horses in a short while.......or at least more confident in your every day life........

Once we get these exercises down pat ...and see the results...then maybe start just a cpl of tai chi movements....but im sure that you will love the exercises that we will do first.....same for you Coreen.....take my word for it.....Im your (type) of guy for it....

Solar said...

"Since I don't have a job I decide to make my life a job I making myself a strict schedule of what I must do every hour. That will keep me busy and out of trouble."

Carol,

Along with the exercises that you will do twice a day....and don't worry about how long, how fast, or anything at all...we will do them and have fun...that is the best way to learn these...and tai chi...you don't learn them by forcing anything...you play them.....

Also to keep you busy....and you must know all, most, or some of these: Acupressure points to lightly use on yourself that will make you feel stronger, have a lot more energy...etc, etc....

go and take a good long look around at...acupressure.com....there are videos for things that are most helpful for what you want to get accomplished....i use them on myself everyday...

I had a strong muscle cramp yesterday on the back of my calf...i used a point that relieved it in about 30 seconds....there a many that i press through out the day.....give my lots and lots of energy....

People like lance Armstrong used a cpl to get an extra 3 miles of reserved energy......and that was not including the drugs he used....haaaa.....later

ps....im going to get strict about that rule book thing....it says that i have too....it all in the book i tell you......

Solar said...

This is the name of the exercises that i recommend. I took a look at his other stuff...don't like most of it that much...but this one i do everyday, along with another one...I integrated them...and feel great afterwards...

You will need to them very slowly...so look at the video...remember a movement or two...write it down in your own words...but remember the breathing is the most important thing that you can do....u must learn how to breath deeply through out the day..this builds up the energy in our bods....start by sitting and start to take a deep breath from just below the navel....NO< no not the Navy...pay attention....

Carol, CAROL, wake up-.....ok take a deep breath from way down below....start there..then let it build in the stomach....then the lower chest....then the upper chest...try to hold it for a cpl of seconds...if not.....not to worry...we will build up to it.....but then let it out the mouth kinda slowly...once again...don't worry...let it out however you can...we will get it down pat latter.....but try to breath in through the nose...a let it out by the mouth

Qi Gong: 7 Minutes of Magic (for Health)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-jSBBwr8Ko

Carol, if you are opened minded about all of this...you will find that the day goes by a lot faster than you think...let me know if you want to go step by step...i will take you through it all....

Kinda reminds me of Ivy.....when she said that all of the exercises that i was recommending to her...was what her instructors were getting her to do.....

A little self promotion to get you to have a little confidence in what i said....you can be kinda hard to convince sometimes...no?

Solar said...

Qi Gong: 7 Minutes of Magic (for Health)

That is the name of the video...that we will start with......this can also help people like Chloe...that are always on the go....taking a little time...will give you back a lot of energy=more time to do things.....

Solar said...

ps....don't start doing those exercises until we do them together...you write them down..then do them on your own...let me know when you all have them...we can do this all together......YOU also Coreen....

Solar said...

Jan,

You are a swimmer...you will find these great...

Plus, there is a short meditation that is great...it is call qi-gong ....for all of us to do....over and out....

Solar said...

Hey Spidey....not forgetting about you....

Carol said...

I couldn't even get to my new post or design on my PC I had to do it from my iPad but I was able to do it from my iPad. You. You solar let me know if you get the invitation. I don't know what's wrong with my PC. I have another laptop but I can't make the hook up to my Wi-Fi. I thought I was over my technology goobers. I guess not.

Maggie and I just got through back from our walk at the camp. She is not very cooperative she wants to stop every minute the sniff the grass.

Carol said...

I loved your seven minutes of magic solar. I've already done it once and I bookmarked it for later. My PC is acting goofy I wrote a post and it disappeared.

Now I need to go eat pizza I'm heating up in the oven. You don't have to worry about my weight I am down to 120 pounds now. I don't mind weighing hundred and 20 pounds but all my pants are falling off. And I hate to go get a bunch of skinny jeans and then put it all back on.

Coreen said...

Hmmm my kinda guy!...Solar you have such good insight!...

And Carol she knows the type too..
have to go with a guy's guy, not the pretty boy model type for me...

Never watched the Glades or Justified, both on cable, Glades was cancelled, I think Justified just started a new season on fx or similar channel, but don't watch it...

Exercise, like I've said, all good intentions but not enough
discipline to keep it going...but
we can all give it another try I guess...

Coreen said...

Almost forgot...

Honestly what if this wasn't a photo, but the real deal?...Bet more than a few would be doing some serious reconsidering!....

Jan, I'll bet John would appreciate this too...

And there is a group of more incredible space pics at the bottom of the article, but have to say the 'hand of god' is pretty darn impressive...
Hand of God spotted by NASA telescope

Fell asleep listening to the playoffs hype on NFL network. I can't believe this is me writing this. I'm expecting the bunch of you to be pulling for the Saints tomorrow I know Renée will. And then we'll. be pulling for the Pats.

Carol said...

I'm getting nervous about the game tomorrow night . I made my spinach artichoke dip. This is the fourth time I've made that dip since Christmas. Won't want to see another artichoke. Or spinach for little while

Chloe this microphone on the iPad works pretty well. It doesn't even make any mistakes. I said many mistakes it does make some. It is a lazy way to post.

Carol said...

I'm going over to some friends house to watch the game tomorrow

jan said...

Coreen, love all the space pictures. I will share with John tomorrow. He flaked out early

Carol said...

Coreen, I'm getting your type of guy based on what you have picked in the past what the. Hawaii 5-0 boys and some of the others like them. I would guess they would have to be both tough and attractive

Carol said...

I'm listening to sports talk on TV and everyone is picking the Seahawks which I understand but don't like it, i'm thinking maybe the third time is a charm since we lost the last toe to the Seahawks.

Unknown said...

Carol, I use the microphone on IPhone all the time for texting. The more you use it, the better it works (you and your phone and Ipod get to know each other). When it makes an error, I just go back to that one word that's wrong and correct it.

I rarely post on my Ipad, and haven't added any voice recognition to my regular lap top, so don't use it here. But I'm sure I would if I had it.

You have been sounding 'so' good since you've been back home. I would never believe you are someone who had a stroke. You really are amazing, Carol.

I'm linking the Tai Chi that Solar asked to have posted as a lead post... hoping someone will put it up for him. For us all, that is. It will be a great motivating tool from which we will all benefit. I'm sure it will also lead to other things.

Hey… don't do all your dancing with Coreen… save one for me too…

I agree, Chloe… Carol does sound good since she's been home.

We went to the local cafe for breakfast this morning. It's run by a husband and wife. The hubby came over to take our order… but first, he always talks sports with me. He said of course he wants the Patriots to win. But then he said he wants the Saints to give those Seahawks a whopping. Hope he's right!

Carol said...

Renee, if Drew Breez can get some points on the board early and not have any interceptions we have a chance. If he gets behind early, then it's all downhill from there.

Chloe, Spidey gal, Jan, and all

I know that you are always looking for something new to read.

I don’t read much fiction, but will read this one: “Andrews brain” by E. L. Doctorow: How a brain becomes a mind.

Reminds me of a movie..or book that i read in the past…where someone got into a car accident…and then mentally described his passing away…in the third person….you know…like that little captians voice inside my cabeza……that can’t stop telling me what to do.

I did read “Billy Bath Gate” by this Author. He has come out with another book that i will read. Here is a sample:

http://www.npr.org/books/titles/261451039/andrews-brain?tab=excerpt

It will be (interview) on npr;s all thing considered chicago time 12 pm….followed by my favorite sat program….Michael Feldons….Wadda ya know show

Solar said...

used to like the click and clack brothers “Car Talk” show on npr sat am’s……they clacked me up……later

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYCB2atuIxI

Solar said...

I like that book b/c it is only half fiction…mixed with what will be facts.

In 50-60 years from now….there will be no religions…science will prevail.!

In a few hundred years…or one hundred thousand years from now…..we will all be mortal…..gods….we will understand that we are all gods…..

We will grow a replacement brain..an extra limb, or replace an eye, ear or dna …….

“Trust me, you’ll be on unemployment. What else can we do as eaters of the fruit of the tree of knowledge but biologize ourselves? Expunge the pain, extend the life. You want another eye, say, in the back of your head? That can be arranged. Put your rectum in your knee? Not a problem. Even give you wings if you want, though the result would not be flying aloft but more like giant skips, floating megastrides as on those tracks that are like flattened escalators moving along the long airport corridors.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
And how do we know God would not want this,

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
perfecting his fucked-up imperfect idea of life as an irremediable condition? We’re his backup plan,

his fail-safe. God works through Darwin.”

errr, make that immortal......

My vacation was a very tough vacation. There was a lot of moving from place to place. If I could handle all that stress coming home would be a breeze. Think my sisters having a hard time handling that I had the stroke and I think she's taking it out on me. Unfortunately I had my stroke on her birthday. She's not happy with all the medication I have to take either. I'm not happy with all the medication I have to take.

Carol said...

Thanks for The sympathy guys but I wasn't surprised . They actually did better than I thought. I enjoyed watching the game with my friends and eating spinach artichoke dip.

Good luck to the patriots I hope one of us ends the evening happy. I'm all tucked into my bed/chair and drinking my Sleepytime tea. When I stayed with my brother-in-law he made me Sleepytime tea every night. I tell you what if some woman gets wind of him, he will be snatched up and my sisters going to be awful sorry. My sister uses him and he's too ggood of a man for that. Big sis just can't stand too much human companionship. When big sis stayed here at my house she always had a rental car and then she could always go to the second house and have her alone time

I told BIL he needs to look for a woman who would appreciate him

Carol said...

Congrats Renée. You did well all around this year. Boston strong

Unknown said...

The thing about relationships, Carol, is that both people are getting something out of it. Brother in law is getting 'something' out of it, guaranteed. It just probably doesn't make sense to anyone but him. He must like the arrangement, though.

Glad he was so good to you at the end of your stay. Also glad you're back home, safe and sound, where you belong. It's so great watching you rebuild your life. That's the really great thing, there no limitation to the directions we can take. People get the idea they're stuck in a corner, but in reality the possibilities are unlimited.

Unknown said...

... limitless.

Solar, your books you mentioned sound interesting. Will have to look them up.

Chloe, Have fun at Chuckie Cheese. Like someone else on here, I can hardly tolerate the place. Good for you though, you put your child above your own needs.

Carol, you have made amazing progress. You ARE Amazing!

Did not know the Saints were playing today. Do not see it on our stations.

jan said...

Carol, I agree with Renee (I think she said it) that your BIL is getting something out of the relationship or he would not be in it. It may have a lot to do with their girls. Who KNows?

jan said...

Hmmm, had a message for Solar and then this all disappeared. Will write it again.

Solar, I love some of your predictions. Wish I could be around to see if they happen. You have a great imagination.

There was hardly anyone there when we got there, guys (although it was getting crowded by the time we left).

It would have been unbearable, though, if she hadn't enjoyed it so much. But, the pizza was actually good, the cup cakes were good, and it was over relatively fast. Wednesday will be her school party, and all have to do is drop off the cake, etc. The teachers there are wonderful, and will handle everything. Plus she'll be enjoyed the company of her closest friends. After that, the birthday will be over. She'll be 5.

Going to regroup and watch Longmire now.

There's one little drawback to have a dog in the house taking the dog for a walk to potty when it's raining outside and neither one of you have a raincoat.

Did anyone watch Dowton Abbey last night or were you all watching the Golden globes I watch the Golden globes and recorded DA. Never did get around to watching DA.

Carol said...

Try to sleep in my bed last night it didn't work out too well I want to get that Tempur-pedic but I'm worried about them getting my old bed out and getting that bed in.

jan said...

I watched D.A. It was only an hour long. The first episode of season 4 was 2 hours long. It was good but I wanted more at the end. There is a surprise. But won't tell what it was.

Carol, don't give up on sleeping in a bed. I think you get a better night's sleep on a bed as compared with a chair.

Carol said...

jan Ifinally did watch Dowton Abbey this morning iit was pretty interesting.

Carol said...

I decided I want to get that Tempur-pedic bed but I'm afraid they won't build to get in the house. I have some glass French doors in the back my bedroom but a brother of a roommate years ago kicked them and breaking into the house because he had somebody drop him off here and we weren't home. Instead of trying to find a ride back he had no cell phone he just broke into the house and ruin the French doors in the back. I called my old contractor that worked on the camp and he's going to come out give me a bid to change out those French doors. Out , Then they can get my old bed out that way and put my new bed in that way. It's something I needed To have done done years ago , fixing the door that is

jan said...

Carol, sounds like you have a plan. You need that temper-pedic bed. You can "kill" 2 birds with one stone by getting new door to replace old doors.

jan said...

As for D.A. Now what will happen for Anna and her hubby. She probably won't tell him about being raped. and that will cause a problem for him.
What if she is pregnant now?

jan said...

I never did quite get who the guy was who raped her? Can anyone enlighten me?

Carol said...

Jan, he must be a new member of the servants since he hangs with them. I'm hoping Bztes doesn't end up killing the guy and go to prison again

Coreen said...

The bed...did you decide on an adjustable, Carol?...Not sure what size you are considering, other than a king, I would think that the delivery people would be able to remove & place the old & new...I would inquire & have the store be sure to note the delivery concerns when you purchase it...

Coreen said...

Didn't watch the Globes beyond the opening of fey/pohler...thought the only funny line was the George Clooney/gravity/be with same age women bit, the rest was mostly insider quips that some in the audience likely got...did see some of the gowns on the e red carpet show before...maybe I'll try to remember to watch fashion police later to see what joan rivers & her crew has to say to praise & trash the celebs' choices...

I find that often when I tape a show, I don't remember to go back & watch it...then when I look at the list, I wind up deleting them...

Downton scenes are moving pretty quickly, this week & last, & often understanding what the actors are saying is difficult...the guy who attacked Anna, is Lord Gillingham's? servant (Gillingham is the guy who was riding horses with Mary...He is obviously going to be a potential suitor for Mary...

jan said...

Thanks Coreen. I did not recognize him as one of the Downton Abbey servants.

Carol said...

Yes, thanks Coreen. Noe I remember he did come with one of the guests.

My back is really hurting me today but I new got some good news that I hope works out

My old secretary from work called with an idea of someone that I could he possibly use as a roommate and I think it's a perfect person. it does help to throw your thoughts and ideas out to the universe.

Unknown said...

Hi Carol, regarding Tiffany, will do.

Agree with you about the benefits of sending our thoughts out there into the universe. It's just a matter of how long. Sometimes hours or days, more often, weeks, months, years.

Hope you find the right person to help you out and they in turn can use your help too. Hang in there.

Carol said...

Chloe you can tell Tiffany she can ask us anything she wants right here on the blog, we are all family here and we welcome her to join us.

Carol said...

Tiffany, Chloe Renée and I first met on another blog called Craig Crawford trailmix, it's a political blog. We just needed a little break from politics so we started one that we just have a little more diversity. Jan and I met years ago in college we went to college together graduate school together and taught together. These women turned out to be my best friends, closer than the ones I have here at home.

Carol said...

I'm kind of worried if I'm ever going to be able to put up a newblog post again. I can't get to the new post area on my PC but I can on my iPad but I'm not sure I could I could put up a post with this iPad because I don't navigate it will enough. This iPad just doesn't have the flexibility of A PC.

Tell us about yourself Tiffany. If you read the blog over the last four years. You can learn just about everything there is to know about the rest of us here. this blog has provided a journal for me for the last 4+ years. And over those last four years I've pretty much given my life's history.
I recently had a stroke this summer I was very lucky that it didn't leave me too many disabilities other than emotional and mental.
