Rachel Carson Wildlife Refuge

These are a couple pictures taken back in September when Rick and I were vacationing in Maine at Ogunquit Beach. Both were taken from the balcony of our hotel room. The hotel borders the Rachel Carson Wildlife Refuge. We chose to stay here because of the abundant birdlife we get to see.

In picutre #1 is a couple of cormorants drying off their wings... several ducks swimming around... and a great blue heron hunched over.

Pic #2 was taken at sunset.

These will have to be the last pics I put up until around the 1st week of December. Right now I'm at my busiest time of year.
I have 4 galleries I have to ship scarves to by Nov. 15th.
I'm doing a show Thanksgiving weekend. I'll take whatever's left over from the show and ship it to yet another gallery. Then I can relax a bit.

Carol said...

Nice pics Renee. Thanks for posting

Coreen said...

Renee, nice sunset & wildlife catch from the balcony...

Coreen said...

And Renee, since it looks like you collected a couple of Red Sox fans
here (Jan & Carol) you all may
appreciate this (from a local CT newspaper columnist who most of us around here have been reading for as long as I can remember)
The evolution of a Boston fan

Copy and paste from last thread, Carol:

Hey, Carol. You forgot my most important question. How are you doing?

Has your doc referred someone for you to talk to yet?

If you need to talk about anything, I hope you'll bring it here. If you need to talk in person, just say so any time and I'll call you.

What's happened to you can happen to any of us at any moment. I, very much, relate to you and your experiences. Like I've said before, I learn so much from you. If I can give anything back, then I'm eager to do so.

Love you, Carol.

Unknown said...

... wanted to make sure you know that if you need anything, just let me know.

Carol said...

Lots of prayers I brlirve in prayer. I want to reset my brain to befotr all of this. I want my independence back. I am trying all strategies that are heallthy. I hate taking all thesr meds but many are necessary for survival.

RebelliousRenee said...

Coreen....
thanks for that article in the CT newspaper. I enjoyed reading it.

Carol... hurray for your Saints! They beat Buffalo and helped the Patriots.

I don't blame you for wanting your independence back. I think that's the thing that the elderly fear the most... a lost of independence. It's understandable.

Jan... thanks for rooting for the Red Sox.

Chloe... thanks for helping Carol.

jan said...

Beautiful pictures Renee. The one of the sunset is amazing.

jan said...

Boston Red Sox won the 4th game. Congrats Renee.

jan said...

I did not see your Saints win Carol, but Hooray for the Saints.

jan said...

I believe in prayer too Carol. Sending one for you right now. I love you.

Unknown said...

Ok, Carol. Lots of prayers.

Unknown said...

Just for you.

Carol said...

Thanks Chloe and everyone else

Carol said...

Went shopping at two stores and wouldn't let my sitter come. I'm trying to wean from the sitters.

Carol said...

Exercising and meditating.

Unknown said...

... way to go, Carol.

jan said...

You are doing much better than me Carol. I need to exercise and meditate but am too lazy.

Carol said...

All I do is walk jan and drag Maggie. She's not to cooperative she may loose her walking privileges.

Carol said...

I thought of getting a water gun to get her moving. My ties thurs siitter is on vacay so I called the service for those days I do have a cleaning lady here today

RebelliousRenee said...

Carol....
good for you for getting some exercise. Like Jan, I too need to start a program... just can't get motivated.

Appreciate Maggie... I'm sure she's good company. I just had to put down the cat who's picture I use as my avatar on trail mix. She was 15 yrs old and had gone down to skin and bones. I swear, the older I get, the tougher it gets to lose a pet. At least I still have 2 more.

Carol said...

Very sorry Renee,

Carol said...

Very sorry Renee,

jan said...

Carol, just proud that you are getting out and getting some exercise. Does not matter how much or with who.

Renee, so sorry about your cat. I agree, so much harder to lose a pet when we are older.

Coreen said...

Carol, good to know that you are getting about...hopefully each day & time gets a little easier...

Coreen said...

Renee, so very sorry about losing one of your fur family, each time I have had to let one of my cats
go it is so difficult...

Unknown said...

Renee, I'm so sorry you've lost your kitty. I've lost several around that age, and by then they are such a part of you. Hopefully, your love and gratitude for your other two will help you through this.

jan said...

I am sitting on the couch with Ryley. John has gone to dinner with a church group. Ryley is looking toward the door, poised to jump off when John comes in the door. At every sound her little body tenses in preparation to jump. What am I? chopped liver? Well, maybe not - or she would be looking at me.

RebelliousRenee said...

Thank You!

Jan... that made me smile....

jan said...

Thanks Renee.

Carol said...

Oh happy days. Oh happy days. When Boston won. The World Series,!!!

Carol said...

Come down off the ceiling rick and Renee.

jan said...

Congratulations Red Sox.

jan said...

Happy Days for Renee & Rick.

Carol said...

I guess someone will have to pry them off the ceiling.

Carol said...

Now they can lose those ugly beards!

jan said...

Woke up at 4 am this morning. Could not turn the brain off. Got up and fixed myself a cup of tea. Sat down in the living room, looking forward to the dark and quiet. John came in, turned on his computer - so much for dark. Clicked on something that was loud and annoying. So much for quiet. Took my tea and went back to bed.

RebelliousRenee said...

YEEEEEEHAAAAAAW!!!!

Carol... well... you know what they're saying....
Fear The Beards!

ahhh.... now we can finally go to bed at a more normal hour....

Jan.... you need a woman cave...

Coreen said...

Good for you & yours Renee, beginning to end the Red Sox were truly Boston Strong...

& that it was the first time in almost a 100 years that they won the World Series at Fenway was fitting indeed...

but the beards shtick was well just hairy...

Carol said...

Some of the beards were attractive ,others were gross.

Unknown said...

"Clicked on something that was loud and annoying."

Why do men do that? I always ask hubby why he doesn't just watch TV if he's going to watch videos on his computer.

I hate it when hubby disturbs my alone time too, Jan.

Carol said...

I and I kinda wish I had someone to disturb my alone time. Sometimes if I could click my fingers and make them disappear when I'm over it. Nothing is perfect.

Carol said...

What kind of tea do you drink jam.? I've lost my taste for coffee. My tmmy stay quirky it's probably one of the meds I can't give up. I'm taking too many

Carol said...

Coleen how did the Yankee fans handle the red socks win?

jan said...

Carol, I do remember when I was single and on occasion wished there was someone there who clicked on something loud and annoying.

It is all relative!

I think everyone sporting fake beards this morning was hilarious.

Carol, I drink plain old lipton in the morning. NOT decaf.

I like an herbal, noncaffeine tea in the evening or before bed.

jan said...

I gave up coffee about 20 years ago. It made me jittery. I already have ADHD or did have. Used to have a hard time sitting still. Now I have a hard time getting off the couch. I have developed some bad habits.

jan said...

Chloe, John is getting better about respecting my dark, quiet time in the morning. This morning he forgot.

Unknown said...

Good, Jan. The same here.

Unknown said...

Carol, et al.

I may be the only one to pre-order the season 4 'Downton Abbey' (which I've already done), but just in case... Amazon is offering the UK version, to be delivered at the end of January (the whole next season)... which has to be the same as the one here. (?)
Masterpiece: Downton Abbey Season 4 DVD (U.K. Edition)

Carol said...

Chloe have you started watching DA yet? I would have if I had it.

Unknown said...

It's a 'pre' order, Carol. Comes out in it's full in January. It has to finish showing in the UK first, I guess.

Otherwise, I would be glued to the TV until I finished it. I become obsessed.

Carol said...

Saints play the Jets today the Jets are better since they drafted geno Smith. It will be a challenge.

Carol said...

We laid out on my wharf in the cold again trying to see a meteor. It was the southern tariff. Most of the time the best time to see them is midnight till dawn. Not going to be out there then. I did enjoy the company of my fellow star gazers.

Carol said...

http://earthsky.org/astronomy-essentials/earthskys-meteor-shower-guide#south-taurids. Not tariffs. Dang autocorrect.

jan said...

Carol, sounds lovely.

RebelliousRenee said...

Carol... I love looking at the nighttime sky. On cold crisp nights, we just walk out of our door and look up... can see loads of stars.

Well.... I hope your Saints help my Patriots today (sorry Coreen... I know, of course, you're hoping for the opposite).

Watched the big victory parade for the Red Sox yesterday. Boston has these duck boats that are basically left over military amphibious vehicles. They drive around the streets of Boston and then into the Charles River. All the Red Sox and employees were on the boats.... they left from Fenway Park and did the usual tour. They all stopped at the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Several players left their boats, brought the WS trophy out and laid it on the middle of the finish line. Then they all sang God Bless America with some of marathon bombing victims. What a fitting finish to a tragedy and a magical season!

RebelliousRenee said...

Oh yeah... one of the players, Jake Peavy, a pitcher... who was traded to the Red Sox in the middle of the season (and couldn't believe his good fortune).... was really taken with the victory parade. Afterwards, he bought the duck boat he was riding on.

Now that's what I call enthusiasm.... also one of the world's biggest impulse buys... :)

jan said...

Renee, thanks for sharing about the Red Sox Victory parade. So Unique!

jan said...

We have had a definite change in our weather and colors. Everything around here is dark yellow and golden. The air is so crisp and cool in the morning. Warms up a little in the afternoon, but definitely jacket and sweater weather all day. I am loving it.

jan said...

I am gradually getting back to walking. I have been using our treadmill as it is easier on the knees. I overdid it a little yesterday and right knee a little sore and stiff so will just do work around the house and no extra walking.

Carol said...

Jets are kicking our ass today. Yuk.

Carol said...

Had a bunch of company for the Game we were all disappointed. I don't like losing. Poor sport.

RebelliousRenee said...

Watched both the Saints/Jets game and the Patriots/Steelers game. The Jets played a very good game.... hope you enjoyed it, Coreen. My Patriots took care of their own business... they were awesome!

Jan... glad to see your knee is feeling better... keep it up.

Coreen said...

Guys, you know I always want NY teams to win, so yes I was pleasantly surprised...

but I do like Drew B. so if I had a choice of winning/losing between the Saints or the Pats honestly I would rather that the Jets had beat the Pats last week & lost today, but so much for wishes...no offense Renee, but you already know what I think of teams from Boston, that will not change ever...

Meanwhile it was a really chilly windy day but only through tomorrow...& yesterday was fantastic, so all in all, not bad weather pattern, but we could use rain, about 5" below normal so far this year...Renee are you in a rain deficit too...

Carol, you mentioned tea back a bit, my fav is Bigelow(corporate HQ is Fairfield, CT) especially earl gray...I drink tea not coffee...regular tea, I drink
Salada, Red Rose, Tetley...I do not
like Lipton tea...

Coreen said...

Jan, about knee pain, I have it just about every day, the worst for me is walking up stairs I have learned to hold on to the bannister for support...which is tough since my house is 2-story as is my office building but there I can use the back entrance which is a long walk, but on one level...

A friend just had arthroscopic knee surgery for a torn meniscus last week & she will be down for the count for about 6 weeks, but her doctor said he cleaned the knee out & she should be ok...

You know it is tough this aging process, but I guess it beats the alternative...

jan said...

Coreen, congratulations on your Jets win.

Carol, condolences on the Saints loss.

This reminds me of when Oklahoma and Texas play each other. My sons are OK fans and of course I am a TX fan = my alma mater. Someone has to lose.

jan said...

Coreen, did not know you had knee pain also. It is not fun. The stairs are a problem for me too.

Unknown said...

Hi Carol,

I was so glad to hear that you had company... for the Game (was it at your camp?).

Hope you had a good time and that things are going well.

RebelliousRenee said...

Coreen... didn't realize you had knee problems either.
I mostly drink tea also. LOVE Earl Grey... but I buy Stash because they make a brand with double bergamot.

Oh... and no offense taken.... I usually root against New York.... it's just the nature of the beast of New England vs New York sports teams.

One thing I do love about NY... their wines. Some very fine wines come out of upper state.

RebelliousRenee said...

Carol...
Chloe makes a good point about it being good you had company. We went to Rick's brother's house a couple weeks ago to party with friends and family for the Patriots/Jets game. The Jets won.... we were disappointed, but didn't let that get in the way of a good party.

Hope you at least enjoyed the food.

Carol said...

Impost enjoyed the company Renee.

Carol said...

One of the meds I'm taking is making. Me nauseated so I don't eat much. I think it is one of the required pills. The one that keeps my blood from clotting. Can't quit that one.

Carol said...

I have an appt with a shrink tomorrow. I do think I need some mental health help. I just don't want any more drugs unless it's a miracle drug.

Carol said...

When you need them , it's not good to have an aversion to pharmaceuticals.

RebelliousRenee said...

I understand your aversion to drugs. All one has to do is watch any elderly person take their morning pills... it makes you wonder wtf are doctors thinking.

IMO, there's nothing wrong with having a healthy skepticism to something that someone wants you to put into your body. But I hear ya too... when you need it, you need it.

Good luck today with the shrink... I'll be thinking of you, Carol.

jan said...

Carol, thinking about you today.

jan said...

John's daughter, Jennifer Barton Boysco, is running for Delegate in 86th District of Virginia. She is running against the Republican incumbent. You Go Jennifer.

when Jennifer was a young woman out of college, she was an assistant for Senator Shelby from Alabama. She married and raised her 2 daughters. She has worked in the Admin offices in Herndon Virginia for several years. Her major concerns are reproductive rights for women, equal rights for all.

Carol said...

Good luck to jennifer

jan said...

Carol, thanks. John just read that the Washington Post and John Warner are supporting Jennifer's Republican opponent.

jan said...

The latest is that Jennifer is in a dead heat with her opponent.

jan said...

Jennifer just called John. The race for Delegate in 86th District of Virginia is too close to call tonight.

jan said...

Considering that Rust, Jennifer's opponent, raised much more money than she did, says a lot for Jennifer's campaign. We will know more tomorrow.

So glad Terry McAuliffe won. (probably mispelled his name)

Coreen said...

Carol, Happy Birthday...

RebelliousRenee said...

Carol....
Happy, Happy Birthday!

hope it's a good one...

jan said...

Happy Birthday to you Carol. Love you.

Carol said...

Saw a psychogist. Yesterdat. Preger that. Doc just want to prescribe. More drugs. Dont need any more drugs.

Unknown said...

Happy Birthday, Carol!

Carol said...

Thanks chloe

Unknown said...

That's weird, Carol. A psychologist doesn't prescribe drugs without going through a licensed psychiatrist or eligible doctor... unless things have changed.

Actually, they'd know a lot better what to prescribe than the drug your MD prescribed. At least it wouldn't be addictive. Don't forget, you're the one that makes the decision. Just tell your shrink you want therapy only if that's what you want.

Also, you really need to tell your MD that at least one of your pills is nauseating you. I think that they may cut back or change one or more of your prescriptions.

It's important to keep the lines of communication open and will directly affect your well being..

Did you (and Mary) get to celebrate your birthday today? Whatever you did, I hope it was good.

Unknown said...

Hi, Carol. Glad to see you here.

When I wrote that's weird, I meant the thing about your psychologist prescribing. However, it's always good to hear them out and talk about your concerns with them, including those about all the drugs you're being given. Whatever bothers you should be out in the open.

Remember... you're #1!

jan said...

Carol, don't give up on finding a therapist. You might ask some friends to suggest someone they liked. It does not have to be a psychiatrist or psychologist. Some who are licensed as a clinical social worker can be very good. I would go with someone with a good bit of experience and that someone you know and trust recommends. I would ask Pat Dow to suggest someone.

jan said...

Carol, hope you are having a good birthday.

Carol said...

The shrink I'm going to see just recently went to med school. She was an archilogist/ paleontologist first. Been a doc. For anout 8 years

Carol said...

Maybe she will recognize me from one of my distant past
Ives. Cave days

Unknown said...

She's a high achiever, Carol. You two should get along well.

jan said...

Carol, I thought of you today. I am going to a 2 day conference (today and tomorrow) on newborns. Today was about cardiac abnormalities in newborns. Cardiac was always your thing, not mine. I tried to get something out of it. It was mostly presented by docs. The only presentation that was of much interest to me was one on developmental delay in kids who have or have had congenital cardiac disease.

Tomorrow's theme is infections. That is a little more interesting to me.

jan said...

Carol, did you do anything for your birthday?

Carol said...

Breathing Jan. thanks pretty special. It's cold here today. Hope my sitter dresses warm. I never had to worry about anyone but me and Maggie before and I have long johns. Maggie got that hair cut a while back and it's still short. Maybe she can sit on the sitter to keep her warm.

jan said...

Carol, breathing is good.

This getting old is definitely not for sissies. My knees, back and other joints creak and are stiff every morning. I have to climb up stairs every morning. I can only take them one at a time. I know that if I lose 20-25 lbs It would be easier but cannot for the life of me get motivated to do it.

RebelliousRenee said...

Hey Coreen...
are you still watching Masterchef Junior? I didn't think I'd like it... but I LOVE it. Man, can those kids cook! The finale is tonight. My only complaint... the show was only 6 weeks... waaaay too short. Hope they do another one soon.

jan said...

I am happy the newborn conference is over. These days I only go for the continuing education units. It is hard to sit for an entire day. I did get some information I can use. Infections was much more interesting.

Carol said...

Having problems with my internet connection so if I'm no here ,that's the problem.

Coreen said...

Chilly start to the weekend....feels like late fall...
forgot to mention a couple of weeks before Halloween they started to cover the GE corp HQ Christmas tree with the
netting for the decorations...there's been a crane
there since then so I know that
Christmas is not far away...& even saw Christmas candy at the
grocery store this week...

Coreen said...

Renee, I had forgotten about the Masterchef Juniors, but did see the ending & astounding that those
kids know so much about cooking, they were both very good, can't say I thought one was that much better than the other, but there can only be one winner...was glad to see luca in the audience, I did like him the best of the adult Masterchefs...

Carol said...

Wa tchong Lsu/Alabama. Not too bad yet.

Carol said...

Pretty bad at the end we got thrashed.

Carol said...

Lsu did pretty well for the first few minutes then started making mistakes.

RebelliousRenee said...

Coreen.... I think Alexander won because he's been the best cook overall throughout the entire show. And Luca has been doing a weekly column on the internet about the show... it's been very interesting reading what he has to say. He's been very impressed with the talent the kids have.

And I read yesterday that they will be doing another show. Fox almost didn't go for the idea, but was pleasantly surprised by the ratings.

RebelliousRenee said...

Carol... I went to a baby shower yesterday. I'm friends with the grandmother to be. Her daughter married a guy who grew up in Alabama. He was there. The baby to be is a boy and he got lots and lots of little Patriot stuff.

When I started talking to the father, I asked him what kind of accent I was hearing. When he proudly said "Alabama"... I exclaimed "Roll Tide!"... he was surprised that anyone from NH even knew what that meant.

Sorry that LSU didn't do so well... good luck for you Saints today. Patriots have a bye.

jan said...

Renee, Sounds like a fun baby shower. Were there several generations there?

jan said...

Reminds me of the baby shower friends in Argentina gave for me when I was having my 3rd baby. It was a surprise for me. I found out that she was having a party and I thought I was not invited. My feelings were hurt so I went out shopping. Someone hunted me down. I was late for the shower. Turned out ok and everyone laughed about it later.

jan said...

Carol, sorry your LSU Tigers lost to Alabama yesterday. Hope today is a better day for your Saints.

jan said...

A lazy day for me. I did some cleaning of the garage yesterday. Have a couple of bags for Goodwill now. My joints were sore later so went to the warm therapy pool at UNM. Felt really good.

Finally finished with GS's quilt and gave it to him last night. I took some pics of the quilt after the pool yesterday so will post them later.

Cut John's hair and beard this morning before he left for church. He told me one of the women at church last week told him his beard was looking "biblical." ha ha.

Carol said...

Saints play tonight hope it's better than LSU.

Unknown said...

Looking forward to seeing your pics, Jan.

Wish my days were as productive as your was. Sounds like it was a good one. You're so fortunate to have that pool available to you... haven't heard you mentioned going there as much lately.

Hopefully, those sore muscles aren't as sore today.

Carol said...

Saints had a very good game last night! ,!,, cold here and will be even colder next week. Yuk,

Carol said...

spoles was back. tM and I call him Mighty Mouse. He can squeak thru a crowd of tacklers. He almost won the game by himself.

RebelliousRenee said...

Jan... Yes, there were 3 generations at the shower. Stephanie is in her late 30's.... this is her first baby. Her 2 sisters (one of whom is a twin) have teenagers.
My friend, Jeanne, is excited about another baby coming into the family.

Carol... I watched the Saints game... WOW! Brees and Sproles were on fire. Note: as a Yankee I pronounce that word as "fiya"... :)

Carol said...

Ccant write from cell phone

jan said...

Carol, congrats on Saints win last night.

Carol said...

"Fiya" yep, thats the accent that y'all dont have or is it just coreen that has no accent

Carol said...

Carol said...

Too early for the cold we are having also but thank God no snow.

YES! Snow!

I LOVE it!

That would be why you are living up there in the 'north country' Renee!!!...

Coreen said...

There are still leaves to be picked up around here...some towns
(not mine, my lawn guy blows them into the woods, he was here once & will be back again before the end of November) let you rake the leaves to the curb or paperbag them & they pick up...

Unknown said...

Carol, I checked out your link and it looks good. Can't listen to much of it yet (definitely will later or in the A.M.). The minute I saw that great big 'I AM', I was reminded of my all time favorite Neil Diamond song: 'I am, I said'. I was there for that Hot August Night concert in '72 and I've never seen a better concert since. It was at the Greek Theater, which is outdoor and surrounded by enough mountains so that the sound was perfection. What a great memory that brought back.

A scratchy version is the only copy I find on YouTube (they've blocked so much there now). Hot August Night

... definitely not an upper, though. Neil Diamond had a dark, depressed side... but it is what makes the song so beautiful too.

Carol said...

Ihwhere are some of you guys.? If I can pluck with one finger, u can leave a msg. I know Renee is. Busy with her crafting.

Carol said...

Chloe. , that "I Am". Is suppose to be the a Nasser to a ll of our needs. Give it a try,!

Unknown said...

I'll give it more than a try, Carol. Just had to a lot done tomorrow, and then I found out I'll have to leave early tomorrow. When I get back I'll listen to it, and continue to listen... because I know repetition is important.

I loved the beginning... the 2 most important words in the world. I agree.

Hey, I'll go to Amazon to see if I can buy the video to listen to when I'm on the road every day. That way I'll absorb more.

Thanks for sharing it, Carol. I'm always on the look out. Glad you are on the right track. I'm going to join you on it.

Carol said...

Chloe, don't listen to meditations while driving

RebelliousRenee said...

I'm still peeking in...

Chloe... Carol has a good point about not listening to meditations while driving. Please be careful.

jan said...

Hello to all. When I listen to a meditation tape, I fall asleep within a minute or two. Riding in the car puts me to sleep. I sing to myself to stay awake.

Carol said...

I fall asleep riding in a car on a trip but feel bad about falling asleep since I'm concerned that the driver may be sleepy also and I should stay awake to keep them alert
Ever feel that way?
What him the modern family reruns on USA. They have a marathon on Friday night.

jan said...

Carol, I fall asleep all the time when JOhn is driving and don't feel bad at all because I am the one that gets everything ready to go and pack and make sure the house is in good order before we leave. Usually I am up until about 3 hours before we leave getting all this done.

If someone else is driving, it is different.

jan said...

We have been watching some of the Modern Family reruns. They are just as good the 2nd time around.

Carol said...

Jan, modern family and Big Bang are. My humor therapy. I love all the characters on both shows I watch so often that I feel like they are my family.

Jan. Evidently you trust john's:driving a lot

Chloe have you started watching DA yet?

jan said...

Carol, I feel the same way about Big Bang and Modern Family. Interesting thing - some of the Big Bang reruns this season are some we have not seen before. I think a network buys a season at a time and show these over and over and then the next season they buy a whole new past season - if that makes any sense.

I do trust John's driving. He is one of the best drivers I have known - Oddly that is something he and Bob have in common - they are both excellent drivers. So are Bill and Terry.

Unknown said...

No, Carol. It's been a horrendously busy couple of days. Not much me time.

I'm due for a tune-up (as Solar would say), but my tune ups are more passive than his. Those videos will be perfect.

Hope all is well, and I hope things are going well for you. I'm counting on you to keep us informed on how you're doing. We'll all end up facing similar challenges in the future. That's the reason I've always appreciated your honesty and generosity so much.

Unknown said...

... more accurately, 'one' of the reasons I appreciate you. There are many.

Unknown said...

Carol, Downton Abbey won't be released until the end of January (unfortunately ...I'm looking forward to it). Downton Abbey

Right now I'm watching a French Crime Series called Spiral. I've just started season 3. It's nice watching them all in a row like this.

I just got the new Ipad Air, Carol (which I think is the one you have) and I really love it. It's so light weight.

Carol said...

I have the Kindle paperwhite. I think that's what it's cslled

Carol said...

It's small

Carol said...

I don't know the name of my iPad but it's small also

Unknown said...

I just looked it up on Amazon and it is called a Paperwhite Carol. Mine's older, and called Kindle Fire.

I haven't been reading it lately, for some reason. It's handy though, to download something on the spur of the moment.

If you ever get into download movies and TV, Walmart has a small receive called Roku... I think it's $79 (was $59 a month ago(. It transfers downloads from your computer onto your big screen (from Netflix, Amazon and the rest). It works well, but if I remember correctly, you have AT&T TV and probably don't need it.

jan said...

I love my Nook reader from Amazon. I think I am allergic to older books that have some dust or dust mites. I find that when I read my Nook I don't have allergy attacks in the middle of the night but I do with some books, unless they are brand new. This happens even when I take my allergy medicine which I do every night.

Carol said...

Taking allergy meds at night wold put me to sleep I already tend to fall asleep if I read in bed

Doc put me on Cymbalta. I think it's helping. Pray that it does. It"s Used for chronic pain. And nothing else was helping.

Carol said...

I didn't look up side effects. I'm too suggestive

Unknown said...

Carol, I just looked up Cymbalta, and it looks like a good one. I'm going to post the most important thing about it (imo) and no more. I think you're smart to not research any of your medications too much. The power of suggestion can work for you, but also against you.

"Cymbalta (duloxetine) is an antidepressant used for the treatment of fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia is a chronic disorder that causes widespread muscle pain and tenderness, trouble sleeping, and overwhelming tiredness."

It looks perfect, Carol... and am so glad it already seems to be helping. It will only get better as your body adapts to it.

I assume your new shrink prescribed it. She sounds like a winner.

Unknown said...

Still haven't started the meditation video. Emma is back in school tomorrow hubby off to a couple of jobs he's contracting and I play catch up.

Later in week I hope to get back to normal.

'widespread muscle pain and tenderness, trouble sleeping, and overwhelming tiredness'

Don't we all have those (above) symptoms as we age? Cymbalta sounds great.

Carol said...

No, it was my regular doc ho prescribed it I sked for it. I haven't even met my shrink yet

I've been seeing the psychologist so fr lst eek we just shot the shit. It was like just visiting with a stranger

Unknown said...

"It was like just visiting with a stranger"

It's always like that, at first, Carol. It takes a long time to form a relationship, along with understand and trust... which we don't volunteer easily.

I'm confused that you say you haven't seen your shrink, but you talked with the psychologist. Are they two different people? Are you going to follow through with the therapy?

Regardless, hope things are going well. Not sure how you heard about Cymbalta... I don't really keep up on what's out there any more. Have heard a lot of people say they have Fibromyalgia, but no one seems to know exactly what it is or what causes it. Prescribing a drug must be perplexing.

Carol said...

Cymbalta is indicated for fibromyalgia. Pain meds quit working and they are strong meds.

saints won yesterday. Yeehaw. Beat 49ers

. I just got a call from credit card fraud people. They had that I withdrew 500 bucks but I only requested and got 200. Doesn't help my stress level. I need to catch a break. They are going to credit me. Sad thing is , the receipt did say 500 but I didn't even look at it but I did count my money when it came out. L

Carol… I watched the Saints/49ers game… very good game! Congrats on your Saints win.

I am getting very strong intuitive feelings that you need to be cautious about the type of medical information you are posting about here. Some stuff belongs in private emails and phone conversations. You just never know who's lurking here.

RebelliousRenee said...

And…. oh yeah… I forgot to mention….
my Patriots are playing the Monday Night Football game tonight. It'll be hard to stay up so late. But hey… a football fan has gotta do what a football fan has to do… :)

Go Patriots!

Unknown said...

... huh?

I guess that's one way to stop an open conversation, that is discussing something that may be beneficial to people.

RebelliousRenee said...

Chloe…
I had strong intuitive feelings…. I voiced them. This is not a private place… it is a public blog.

Both you and Carol are adults. If you both choose to continue that type of conversation here, it is your right.

BTW… my Patriots lost last night… but it was a hell of a good football game.

Carol…
sorry you aren't feeling well…. glad you have a house full of people to help you.

My Patriots will be fine. They have another big game next Sunday night against the Broncos at home. Rick's brother, Dan, has tickets to go see it. We will be partying hardy in our living room.

Please take care.

Why is life soooo complicated....??

jan said...

Carol, hope you are doing ok. Is your sister coming soon?

Watching The Voice tonight. I do like the way these coaches work with the singers and help them improve. No tearing down people here. I had to stop watching The X Factor. I do not like the judges on the show. It is disgraceful the way they talk with the singers.

jan said...

Carol, what is complicated?

Carol said...

Everything is now ciomplicayed

Carol said...

Like talking to a computer on the phne that won't cooperate or give you a human to talk to. I was yelling at my phone. Hate those computer phone services.

RebelliousRenee said...

Carol… ahhhh…. electronics. I know what you mean. All these new fangled electronic things are supposed to make our life easier…. but it doesn't always work that way…… sigh…

Jan… we used to watch the X Factor, but stopped this year. I have liked The Voice when I've caught it. Haven't watched it this year either. Been mostly watching sports and the food network.

jan said...

Carol, is your sis coming soon?

jan said...

Going to see "Last Vegas" this afternoon. It is supposed to be funny.

It is rainy and dark here this afternoon. We need a good laugh.

Jan… did you like the movie?… was it funny?

Carol… glad your sister is there. I know you're going to have a lot to do before you leave. I traveled to the northwest a long time ago. I'm sure it's changed a bit… but still very beautiful. Hope you enjoy it.

We are going to a ceremony tonight at the nursing home where my mother-in-law passed away. It's a home run by Catholic charities and they put on a simple candle lighting ceremony near the end of the year dedicated to all the patients that died that year.

We are taking my father-in-law. He's having a hard time coping with her death. Hope this makes him feel better.

Unknown said...

I'm glad that she's trying the adjust your meds, Carol. Someone told me yesterday they were taking a med that made them extremely nauseated, and the doctored changed their made. It did the trick.

Just keep at it. Don't give up until the nausea is gone, even if she has to change the med. Some people do well on one med, others on a different med. Listen to what your body is telling you... doctors only know what you tell them.

Glad to hear that sis is there... what a great, take charge sister! Now maybe you can sit back and rest assured things will get better. You've paid your dues in life, and it's time for you to let others do for you.

Don't give up getting rid of that nausea, there's nothing worse. Keep calling your doc until she gets it right. If necessary, get a second opinion.

Hope you have a wonderful time on your holiday vacation. Sit back and enjoy! Please keep us informed, as much as possible, on how you're doing and 'what's up. Looking forward to hearing about your vacation, too!

Meant to mention that Walmart is now doing a great job on prescriptions (better than before) and there easy to get in touch with. I get 3 months at a time (the doctor has to write the script that way, to save you trips to the pharmacy). The mail out programs are a pain in the arse.. imo.

Unknown said...

... it's not really cold yet, Carol. But I know what you mean when we do get a temperature drop, it's harder to tolerate than it was in our younger days. Plus the fact you're not eating and getting thinner doesn't help either.

Unknown said...

Sorry to hear that your father-in-law is having a rough time, Renee. Hope you all enjoyed the ceremony last night.

jan said...

Carol, good to hear your sis is there. I too hope this trip and being with family will help you heal.

jan said...

Renee, Sounds like this will be a lovely ceremony. Catholic Charities here does some amazing things for people. We have one here that works with undocumented people and children. I Hope the ceremony is helpful for your Father in law.

The movie was funny, and yet sad in some ways too. My son and Daughter in law thought it was hilarious. Maybe it is my age, but did not find it hilarious. The cast is amazing and there were some poignant scenes and some I think they should have left out.

RebelliousRenee said...

Chloe…
thanks…. the ceremony is tonight.

I had a discussion with a friend a few yrs ago about whether it was harder to lose a spouse early in a marriage…. therefore being left with a lot of "what ifs". Or losing a spouse after a long time marriage. I sided with the long time marriage. My in-laws were married for 66 yrs.

RebelliousRenee said...

Jan… I grew up a Catholic. I have a lot of conflict with the religion now and know I can not return to the church. But I never say a bad word about Catholic Charities. I agree… they are an amazing organization.

BTW… both my parents passed away in this nursing home. The staff was unbelievably kind.

We got to sis's new condo, I got a shower. And settling in. Tomorrow we go to Merrill's for 5 days will need to settle in there. The new condo is very nice no tv since I left home. Miss it a little. Not much. Listening to Christmas music. When I was home alone, I avoided it.
Had a grat time with niece, her husband and kids and some of their friends and relatives. Nice to be settled for a little while. Ate better today.

I'm tired of being cold and more tired of wearing 50 pounds of clothes to stay warm imputing on muscle hauling these clothes. I slept in gloves and a furry Russian hat, my warm ups with log johns.
Gloria told me it was 70 in the room right outside where I was sleeping. Didn't feel like it. Maybe she meant my rectal temp was 70.

I'm so joansing for some TV. He'll I'd even like to hear a commercial. I did watch a little Netflix last night and fell asleep but then had to wake up to put the leap top up. I'm out of sleeping pills I'm sure they are in sis's mailbox 25 mile from here. I called the pharm service to tract some of them and several won't even be mailed out until Jan 5th. They didn't explain why.

Carol said...

Hope none of you saw that game last night. bIL and I went to a bar to watch. No tv or cable here. Sure wish I drank. It was uncomfortable at the bar in more than one way. Never remember the saints playing worse. I was embarrassed. Cold here and getting colder. Threatening snow. But no weather to watch except online.

Carol said...

It's a real challenge to take offs all my clothes to take a shower. I make the water sooo hot that getting out is not as bad.

Oklahoma had an earthquake during a football game someone was kicking a field goal at the time. Didn't effect the kick. Not sur whether it was yesterday or the day before.

I have sos's tv working and we could watch the Seahawks ga,e here but we won't be here. we are going to a piano recital my neice's daughter is in. She is a great piano player. Play by ear. She played for us Thansgiving. No music. It was a classical piece.
