I don'at have a problem with the Indian names or the chants for sport's teams.

Gail and Maggie certainly look relaxed.
Love the live Oaks that are in the shot. Nothing says "the South" like those trees and a river.

Enjoy your clean camp!

Carol said...

that's a cypress tree, not an oak in the background.

the Red Sox won't be playing tonight either. The ALCS starts tomorrow night, Saturday, between the RSox and the Tigers.

Rick and I are going to a local show with his brother and girlfriend tomorrow. Then we're going out for drinks afterwards.... we might be lucky to catch the very end of the game. But it's only the first one.... they'll be more.

RebelliousRenee said...

It looked like there was moss from a live oak hanging over the camp porch in the picture. The cypress looks like an interesting tree. I probably saw some when I visited New Orleans... but I don't remember.

Carol,
I think you said you have AT&T phone service (I may remember wrong). If you are looking to bring in WIFI, they have a package for phone and internet that is reasonable. Our WIFI is really fast (although the very fastest hasn't reached our area yet). You sometimes hear bad things about AT&T, but we've been with their WIFI a long time (that and our home phone) and like it. They provide the router, and it connects everything that comes into the house. Multiple computers, Smart TVs and Blue Ray boxes, etc.

Cheaper than the little attachment to hook up my computer to the internet when I'm away from home. I'm getting rid that thing, since most things hook up to cellular now.

I am back home.

Business stuff ok. Reunion with girl friends from early and late childhood was the best. So glad reunion was last. Great people. Heard stories I had not heard before. So great to spend time with people who knew my parents and brother and sister. It was just too short.

jan said...

Great picture Carol.

I only have AT&T IPhone. No Land line here had trouble with att all the time . What do I do when I go to the camp? Wish my little Verizon thingy would
Provise a
Type of wifi.

Unknown said...

Hey, Carol. I get it now. I wasn't thinking.

Ok... back to the bright side of things. If you have the same Verizon thing as me, it is WIFI! You can have multiple computers, etc. around it and they all work wire-lessly using it. This electronic age just never lets us down!

Are you getting all the same rain we're getting here? It's been almost 20 years (about the time we first move here) since I've seen this much rain. Bring it on, I say. I love the rain!

Hope you don't flood at your camp though. Please keep us informed.

ps I'm expecting a wet winter, but I may be wrong.

RebelliousRenee said...

Carol said...

Renee. Sorry about the Red dock last night.

Carol said...

Chloe. What so you use ro connect
To the Net when you are on the road?

Unknown said...

Hey, Caro

It depends on what I'm using when I'm in the car. As you know, the Iphone is cellular... so no problem.

The new ipad's can also be connected by cellular now for a relatively low monthly price. But you use them to connect to free WIFI at McDonald's, Chik fil-a or anywhere else that provides WIFI (the same way any laptop connects t WIFI these days). It's a great laptop to travel with.

With a regular laptop, you need the Verizon thing you have... in the car, unless you're close to free WIFI somewhere.

The Iphone and the Ipad are the cheapest way to have none stop connection. The Ipad, though, has a limit of time you get for the price.

Ha... I have to stay connected! It's like a leash.

Poor Ryley is so confused. John left for cloudcroft yesterday at noon and I arrived home at 8 pm last night. We decided it would be best for him to leave Ryley alone for 8 hours rather than taking her with him. Of course we have family who could have looked in on her If I could not get home last night.

John said that all the time I was gone she kept looking for me and was very clingy to him. This morning she is looking all over for John. He gets home at 4 pm today and her little family will be back together.

Carol said...

Chloe. I called Verizon. They call tat connection A mifi jet pack itt will provide Wifi for several devices I am going to think about getting one.

Carol said...

Renee. I hate to say it big you may ja r another sporys disappointment today. Most od the Foc guys atr picking the Saints to
Win. Today

Unknown said...

Yes, Carol. That's what it's called the MIFI jet pack (I mistakenly call it my connection thing). It's a little pricey, but serves the purpose and is very fast (at least where I am).

It comes in very handy when we lose service out here and I can take it anywhere. It would probably serve all your needs.

If you decide to try it, make sure you ask them how long you have to change your mind. It used to always be 30 days, but now it's sometimes only a couple of weeks.

Carol said...

May have to taty words Renee

Carol said...

Carol said...

Renee hope you saw that game. Great game for you guys. Rotten for me.

RebelliousRenee said...

Carol....
of course I watched that game. Your Saints are very worthy opponents. I thought it was an exciting game. When your defender caught that interception toward the end, I thought that was the game right there.

I still can't believe the Patriots pulled off a miracle at the end. The other teams in our division lost today... so the Pats extend their 1st place lead.

Sorry you are disappointed. I wish your Saints much luck in their game next week.

Carol said...

Renee. They will be fine next week, they have a bye.

Unknown said...

"My phone won't let me type at times. ... need a new one."

Unknown said...

"the privacy train long ago left the station & its not returning"

LOL!!
Coreen is right, Carol!
You can check that they clear all the info. off your phone when you turn it in. There's a restore button on the phone (although I personally have never used it). The tech at AT&T (or wherever) can restore to new... as a matter of fact, I think they will automatically clear the phone. But set you mind at ease and make sure.

Before they clear it though, they will ask you if you want all your contacts, music... anything transferred over to your new phone, which they will gladly (and magically) do for you if you want them to.

I worry about the same thing with old computers. I have much more important private information on my laptop than I do my phone.

We have an old Ipad that they were going to credit us $300 for a while back. If they still will, then we're going to trade it in for a new one. The price fluctuates.

Unknown said...

If you have an AT&T outlet near by, Carol... it's a lot easier to go in and talk to them. They may give you more by going in. Like I said... prices seem to fluctuate. It's easier to get things straight from the horses mouth (if possible).

Unknown said...

... thanks for the 'lack of privacy' reminder, Coreen. It's a new world.

I've looked up some sites to get you started. I really stumble through these setups myself, and have no ability as a support technician. I have a different equipment than you and so would have nothing to look at to see what you were seeing. Even my wifi (mifi) is probably different as mine is a couple of years or so older -- I use AT&T wireless for Netflix and my TV anyway. I just don't have the expertise to help set up your equipment. But I'm going to help any way I can.
... cont'd. on next comment (so it won't reject me for being too long)

always struggle through these setups, Carol... but eventually we all get it done... one step at a time (baby steps!).
-- 1. Set up your wifi device so your computer detects it first (instructions will be included with it... I've had mine for a couple of years or so, and don't remember what I had to originally do to set it up).
-- 2. Once that that's done, go to your smart TV 'initial set-up (at least that's what my Sharp TV has). Internet, Wireless (and at this point it should ask for your security code (which is the password for your new WIFI device. I connect my TV through AT&T so it's different. (Your TV will be different than mine though, so you will probably have to call their tech support at customer service for your TV (number is probably on your paper work) and they will help you through the steps (no charge).

Carol, I never thought you had an accent, but you did not sound like others in LA.

jan said...

Chloe, a big thank you from me.

jan said...

One of the reasons I keep my few hours with the univ. is so I can get help with my computer and telephone from the great IT folks there. I have a GD with a degree in comp science and that is what she does, but I don't like to bother her. She does not get on her computer at night. She leaves it all behind at work. She comes home to 2 little ones.

Carol said...

chloe, I did watdh a couple of Netfklix on my TV. I called the NEtflix people and rhey gave me the number to my TV people. The Tv people helped me set it up but werent sure if it would work beause the download speed was too slow. I did get it to work though. yes, it is better than watdhing on the computer. I ouldn't make it though much of Breaking Bad. It was kinda evil.

Unknown said...

Great to hear you got 'er done,Carol!

Now you need to call AT&T and tell them your connection is too slow. They may be able to speed it up somehow.

I was afraid that Breaking Bad may be too violent for you. I fast-forward through parts that I find stressful. It's easy on Netflix because it lets you peek at the frames you're fast-forwarding through.

I am really in to it at this point but it took several episodes to warm up to it. It's such good acting and done so smartly... BUT, if it's a downer for you, then you definitely don't need it.

Wow, Carol. You can do anything!

Unknown said...

Ha about the accents, Coreen.

The true Texas accent is Matthew McConaughey, but you just don't hear it anymore. More people from Northern and NE states or the West now, so you just don't detect many accents anymore. (I just sound like any other Yankee, except I talk very fast)

Carol, You're right. Text to Speech is an app. The guy at Sprint downloaded it when I was looking (apparently).

Here's one link with a video explaining how: How to Convert Voice to Text on an iPhone

I must have the Vlingo.

ZocDoc
This is the doctor site that impressed me so much... although I realize you probably already have an excellent network of doctors you have access to. This worked for me, because it finds docs very close by, and lets you fill out necessary paperwork 'before' going in. Plus it takes insurance info. so they can authorize everything before you get there. They even remind you about the appointment the day before.

Unknown said...

... the important part: you needn't talk to anyone to get everything lined up. Just show up the day of the appt.

Carol said...

Carol, Here's two sites that explain enlargement. One is for the net, which you may already know: turn sideways and enlarge by running forefinger and thumb over screen to enlarge.

The other is for basic print. The keyboard is fixed to the screen size.

I hate typing on the Iphone, although reading on it is fine. That's why I need an IPad or laptop with me.

Carol said...

Carol said...

Still overwhelmed with this new technology

Carol said...

Don't understand all the problems unless its use error.

Unknown said...

I always get stressed with new technology, Carol.

Jan's right though, you have at least 2 weeks to return it... maybe 30 days.

That easy-to-carry-around portability is the only reason I ever carry around the IPad. That, and because it connects to the internet anywhere... WIFI or not.

The IPhone was easy to learn for me because I had already been using an IPod and the program is the same, except the phone was added.

I'm sorry for your frustration, too. It just takes repetition and lots of time. It's good for the brain too. If I didn't have these challenges, mine would be fried.

jan said...

Chloe, Hmmm, would like to take credit for telling Carol she can return in 2 wks, but alas it was not me.

Carol, good for you for keeping on trying to get some that works for you and getting it to work.

Carol, I'm wondering if this might be the Meteor Shower you going to see:
Northern Taurids Active from October 19th to December 10th 2013
This shower is much like the Southern Taurids, just active a bit later in the year. When the two showers are active simultaneously in late October and early November, there is sometimes an notable increase in the fireball activity. There seems to be a seven year periodicity with these fireballs. 2008 was the last remarkable year. Perhaps 2015 will be the next?

Unknown said...

Carol! I didn't quite realize what phone you have (I use an IPhone... I must have been confusing you, if anything).

Told Glen you have a samsung Galaxy S4 and he said that's a really nice phone. One of the guys that works for us has it and loves it. I think it does 'more' than the Iphone. Very glad you got some help. All you ever have to do is ask around, talk to people and they are so happy to help.

thanks! I still can't get over the fact that this Red Sox team will be playing in the World Series.

I hear that the St Louis Cardinals are a really good team also. Should be a good series. And even if my RSox should lose... I've had a blast watching them this season.

Only bad thing is now Rick and I will struggle to stay up late for the next 10 days or so to watch the series. We aren't thrilled with how late the games start and finish here in the East. Oh well.... can't have everything... :)

Which leads to me the Patriots... they win a big one in a nail biter... they lose a big one in a nail biter. I think this team is just so-so this year. We've become spoiled to winning teams. But we'll survive whatever happens. It's gonna be a stunningly beautiful fall day here today.

Carol, If there's still time, take the phone back today. Extra stress you don't need.

How about a simple phone for calls and text messages... since you now have the IPad to carry around for blogging, mail, etc. It will even most likely fit in your purse.

I will say that the IPhone I have is reasonably simple for what it does, ... but I have heard their new update has been poorly received. So I can't recommend the new IPhone, as I don't know what's changed. The one I have is about a year old.

Unknown said...

My sitter helped me move back to the camp. I'm hoping it will improve my psyche. My doc did give me a very mild benzo. That helped my innards stop quivering but I still stay fearful. Be become phonic of everything. I need to get to theorist where I don't need these sitters. It way too expensive. I'm wasting all my old age resources. Pray for me.

Carol said...

My doc is going to refer me to a shrink. I hope that works.

Carol said...

She said she was so happy I was doing so well physically that she didn't realize what Thad has done to me emotionally. She is a neat doc.

jan said...

Renee, congrats on your Red Sox in the World Series. John will be watching some of it. I will root for your team.

jan said...

Carol, baby steps.

jan said...

Carol, you have made so much progress. It may not seem like much when you look at yesterday. But so much when you look back in terms of weeks.

Carol said...

I'll e happy when I'm back to normal carol. I can talk and walk and I truly appreciate that but no one understands what's going on in my head

jan said...

Carol, I say "you have made progress" only from where I am sitting here and I see what you write and how you write and what you tell us. Yes, I hear you that only you know what is going on inside you.

Unknown said...

Carol... no one knows what's going on in your head unless you tell them. Your doing that is a giant step forward. Your anxiety is very understandable... what you've been through is huge.

The shrink will be a lot more help than the sitter. It will all move forward from there. I completely understand that terror you're feeling. Just remember it's a feeling and you have the ability to control your feelings with guidance from a professional. Make sure you follow through on that referral... I know you won't regret it.

I'm sure you know that terror is a result of your stroke, and as Jan pointed out... you're healing. Now the shrink will help you deal with the process.

One step at a time. Have FAITH... and you will make it through all of this... and come out the other end in peace.

It's another challenge, Carol. You've had many in your life. You can do it.

Unknown said...

When's your sister coming to get you? I bet she will be a big help too.

Carol said...

Close to thanksgiving. She bought a new condo and has to move in. She is a pro at moving.

RebelliousRenee said...

Carol...
glad you are telling us what you're feeling. I know someone who had a stroke and went through a time of fear. She said it was hard because on the outside it looked like she had fully recovered. A shrink helped her. I really hope it will help you too.

Hang in there.

Unknown said...

Hey, Carol. I'm on my way out the door but I was just thinking. Your insurance may cover the shrink since it's necessary as a result of your stroke. Worth a try... it is part of rehab.

Good your doctor gave you a benzo to keep you calm, but the therapist will probably prescribe something more specific (and that is not addictive). Anxiety, depression (etc.) is chemical and that needs to be balanced. Talking about it and having someone help you think things through and solve problems also helps that balance. You're on the right track.

Re-evaluate!

Hi, Carol.
I haven't started the book, yet. I've just finished going through several seasons of 'Breaking Bad', so haven't been doing much reading. I'll probably start looking through the Dispenza book yet in the next couple of days. It looks like one I'll find interesting.

How are you doing... have you been watching your Netflix at all. I've been thinking about you and hope everything is OK. Will check back in in a few hours.

My favorite books just for entertainment are anything by John Grisham. I love his writing style. He gets right into it.

It is really fall here now. the trees are turning colors. I love it when the air is crisp.

We bought some Halloween candy (small bars of snickers, almond joy, twix, etc. We have eaten about 1/3 of it. It was a big bag. I just hope there is enough for neighborhood trick or treaters.

Hey, Carol. You forgot my most important question. How are you doing?

Has your doc referred someone for you to talk to yet?

If you need to talk about anything, I hope you'll bring it here. If you need to talk in person, just say so any time and I'll call you.

What's happened to you can happen to any of us at any moment. I, very much, relate to you and your experiences. Like I've said before, I learn so much from you. If I can give anything back, then I'm eager to do so.

Love you, Carol.
