A tribute to the resilience of Americans and New Yorkers in particular, the Freedom Tower was finished on May 10, 2013, with the installation of the silver spire bringing the height of what is officially One World Trade Center to 1,776 feet.. One World Trade Center, from Ground Zero to the Freedom Tower
And for me the most stunning and moving memorial remains the Tribute in Light, 2 beams of light reaching to the heavens one night only from sunset on the 11th of September until sunrise on the 12th...This tribute has taken place for the last ten years... Tribute in Light returns for 12th anniversary
Renee, Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday dear Renee, Happy birthday to you. Age is just a number. That is what I tell myself every day. Ha ha.
Besides, I am the oldest one here. I can remember being the youngest one in groups I was in. Now I am the oldest in all the groups I am in. That is ok. I am still in groups.
12 years ago today, John and I were living in 2 states. We had a home in Arkansas where John was Rector of an Epis. church there. I lived there too, on weekends. We had a little cottage in OKla. where I was Director of a nursing school.
I had arrived at work. I don't watch TV or listen to radio in the morning. I like to drink my tea sitting outside and watching birds. When I arrived at work at 7:45, everyone was gathered around a little TV watching the news. John drove up to OK and we were doing the closing on the little cottage. I did not see any news for 3 days as I did not have a TV then. I did hear some of it on the radio.
Even though the banks closed that day, we still did the closing. I thought then that this was a bad omen for the little cottage. We did lose money on it when we sold it 2 years later.
Certain events in life are burned into one's memory, today is one of those for me...I remember seeing it live as NY tv interrupted programming to show the plane in the first tower, initially not knowing if a small plane had accidentally hit the tower, then the 2nd one hit, to the horror of those reporting & everyone watching... when I drove to my office (still have that office) everyone was in shock, couldn't get enough news of what had happened...as time has passed it is easier for most of us not personally affected by the horror of that day...but I still remember one of my good friends who had a son working there in panic mode until he heard from him that he was ok...sadly that friend is now gone, he died in 2005...
And so life goes on, today when I drove down the hill & came home, the 343 American flags were there in the center's green, as they have been every year since 2001, a quiet & comforting reminder...
our town's volunteer firefighters place them in the shape of the twin towers, to remember and honor fellow firefighters who perished that day...
I have a couple of young women who clean my house every other week. I had to let go of the fear of someone else being in my home and touching my stuff. They do a great job and it is a great comfort to have the dusting and vacuuming done, and the bathrooms and kitchen cleaned. And the best part is I didn't do it.
Maay had her surgery yesterday, my aiatter ABD I had to fo rto h3r plqce wto resque her. Shes over here now. I also have ants in my house. I guess we will have to move to the camp.
Carol, we get ants all the time. I put out the ant traps you get at the store. I wonder if there is a more environmental way to get rid of them.
About 2 months ago we had a torrential rain that caused some leakage of water in one of our rooms in the basement. We pulled up the carpet around the edges and I had to cut out some of the batting that was wet. We were able to save the carpet. I think I am going to tile the floor in that room. This has happened twice in 7 years.
At this point we don't have any flooding in our neighborhood.
There is flooding in the neighborhood of my grandson's house in Colo. So far their house is safe but the streets have been flooding.

Coreen, thank you for the pictures. It is hard to believe that it has been 12 years.
9/11 was one of those times that we all remember where we were and what we were doing at the time.
Carol, back to the previous post.
There are some parts of housework that I dislike, some parts I just endure and there are days and times that I find housework comforting.
Thanks for the post Coreen.
Jan, I find it comforting for someone else to do my housework.
Hey... great pictures Coreen.
Yeah... I remember everything about 12 yrs ago. And besides, it was my 47th birthday.
Now I know none of you will try to figure out how old I am.... right... :)
I'll be back on Sunday.... everyone take care til then.
Carol, LOL - I am still laughing.

Oh & today it was 94 in Trumbull center & extremely humid...enough already!...
And about housework...I hate it, but unfortunately I have no one to do it for me...& it gets harder & harder every year...
cOREEN, YOU CAN HIRE HOUSE CLEANERS. dO YOU NEED ME TO SEND sIS OVER TO HIRE SOME. sHE'S THE ONE WHO FIXED ME UP. i WOULD HAVE NEVER DONE IT.
YOU DESERVE TO PAMPER YOURSELF occasionally Coreen. Don't wait to have a stroke to do it.
I'm just saying that we often don't give ourselves
A
Break until we're forced to even though we deserve it and can afford
It. What
Ya say Coreen?
Coreen, thank you for sharing your experience of that day 12 years ago.
I cannot imagine what it must have been like for people living in NYC that day.
