A Place To Ponder
!. Peanut2. Peanut and Cookie3. Phoenix4. my messy living room
These are the only photos I have on my camera of my cats.... sorry... they aren't the best.Phoenix is a tortie and my eldest cat... 15. She's the one I use as my avatar on TM. Cookie (you only see his head) is my one male. He's 14. And Peanut is my baby at 7. All three are from a local shelter. Phoenix and Cookie were the names the shelter gave them and I kept them. They were picked up as strays.Peanut was named Paris. She was taken as a kitten from the shelter by a little girl who developed an allergy to cats... her parents brought the cat back to the shelter when she was 3. At first I kept her name... but she is very small... only 7 1/2 pounds. We kept calling her our "little peanut". After a month, we decided it was her rightful name.
Coreen.... let me echo Carol's Amen to your last post.Jan... if she is a long time friend, I don't see why you can't be upfront with her and tell her that the political discussions are making you uncomfortable.
Renee, thanks for posting pics of your babies.
Thanks for suggestions Carol and Renee, will give it more thought. There have been lots of issues in our relationship over the years. I could write a small book just about our relationship. Our parents were friends before we were born. I do value our friendship.
Save by the pussy. Can I say that? Thanks Renee for the cute post. Jan, I don't think you can censor her comments, just don't respond and/or zip past them.
Carol...IMO, you are in essence asking Jan to censor herself.I find this fascinating.... I think this might be one of those north/south type of things. Southerns prefer to ignore that which make them uncomfortable while northerns can be a bit more blunt and just say so.I see nothing wrong with Jan telling her friend that she would prefer not to discuss politics. Jan... and of course... the decision of how to handle it is completely up to you.
Renee, After much thought I prefer to just zip past her postings. During the election I posted or shared many political things on fb. I did have a couple of nephews make comments that indicated their disagreement. It is really not comfortable for me to do that. I stopped posting most political stuff. So rather than share my discomfort with her postings I will continue to zip past. I do thank you for your suggestion.
I guess you're right Renee but I know Jan is not comfortable with confrontation or controversy. Jan, I don't have many on my FB friend's list because I don't hang there much and I don't usually respond to friend requests. Even so, I see many opinions that I don't care for. It would be a waste of my time to respond to them. I know I could never change their opinions nor them mine.
Have you guys noticed that I haven't mentioned cats in quite a while? That's because I now have a herd of them. Word got out in the hood that there was a sucker for homeless cats there. I don't know what to do because most are wild and I can't bring myself to do something that would cause their death. I can't bring myself to let them starve either. I made a commitment to Fiddler so I have to feed her. I have to bring her in the house to feed her or she will get attacked. She's not a fighter. I'll have to figure out what to do soon.
Carol, you and I have had plenty of confrontations and controversy. I just choose to pick the issues and time and place for dealing with such things. If I did not care for this woman I would just defriend her.
I just got back from the therapy pool at the Univ. It is a lovey big multipurpose pool. Before I had this knee pain, I swam in the olympic pool. The therapy pool has nice warm water which feels very good on my knee so I try to go 4-5 days a week for the therapy and the exercise. Today, a young female life guard was giving a swimming lesson to a child. I was doing some laps in which there was plenty of room. She was throwing rings to the bottom for the kid to retrieve. She had thrown some in the area where I was doing laps. He was having a little trouble retrieving them and I was waiting for him to do this before resuming my swim. I heard the lifeguard say to the kid, "hurry up so this old lady can do her swim." Immediately, she sank down in the pool for a few seconds. I was shocked at what she said and I think she was too. I decided not to let this pass, so I swam over to her and said, I heard what you said and I am offended. I told her what I heard and she said "oh no, I said let this nice lady do her swim." I did not want to argue the point, I simply wanted her to know I heard her. So, Carol, I am not afraid of confrontation. I don't like controversy either, but I am not afraid to speak up when needed.
I don't like to argue or use confrontation online. I am not afraid to say what I think in person. During the election, I posted a political thing and someone I care about commented "don't like." I came back with "don't care." That must have been offensive. She unfriended me. It was my brother's widow - who has remarried. I felt so bad that I had responded in that way. She recently asked me to ber friend on fb again. I guess when it is online, we never know how someone on the other end is going to feel about what we have said.
Renee, I will probably see this woman I first talked about - when we return to OK. I may talk with her then.
Jan...good for you for speaking up to that young life guard at the pool. I think you handled it perfectly.Online stuff can be hard. One doesn't hear a tone. I say many things tongue-in-cheek and playfully.... but sometimes when I reread it... it doesn't always come across that way. Good luck with your friend.
Carol...that's funny.... I was thinking about your cats a couple days ago and meant to ask you if any of the kittens had produced kittens of their own by now.I feel for you. I don't know what I'd do in that situation.I wish you much luck.
Love the cats Renee...looks like they get the run of the house, I know that feeling, my three rule here...I have a cat condo, but onlymy Cassie sits on top of it...none of them ever went inside of it...my three are all girl cats...
Carol, the only way to stop the cycle of more & more cats is to trap feral cats & spay/neuter...around here there aresome groups who do that not many, have to search around asking to find some catprotectors who would maybe help...I am told around here when those that can trap feral cats, after spay/neuter they are returned to where they came from but obviously cannot reproduce...I certainly would not condone killing them...& yes it takes tremendous time & patience to trapferal cats...I know since my blackcat was one such, the other we tried to catch never was caught & ultimately disappeared after 3 years of feeding him, providing him shelter on the porch in winter & bad weather & never being ever to trap him...he would come up on the porch inside up to the french doors, but never could touch him...
Sorry Jan, I guess I'm wrong again. I got the impression from what I've heard you say that you don't care for confrontation and controversy. I certainly know you can do both. I've gotten to a place in life where I avoid both because both suck my energy and I don't have enough reserve to give up any.
No good answer about your situation Jan...for me, I either ignore comments or just delete them on FB....I would doubt that discussing it will change the situation...FB a place where those who rarely offerany opinions in person, often surpise you with what they post...I have found that some people I know who are on FB say some really dumb things that they would never offer face to face...guess it just depends on how much you value the person's 'friendship'...
It did hurt my feelings when the lifeguard said what she said. I thought I had grown past being so sensitive to remarks such as that. I am very aware that I now am an old lady. But the term "old lady" is an offensive one to me. It is interesting that we were talking about prejudices here just before I went swimming.
For what it's worth...more Paula Deen stuff...From the NYT article what I found more obnoxious was the comments by the Slate writer...someone named Roxane Gay...reading her article, her bias is clear, every descriptive word she uses suggests to me that she is the one with a problem, with that proverbial chip...pretty sure she is black & as far as I'm concerned plays that racist game for all its worth...oh & doesn't come across as having much respect for anyone/thing that comes from the south...but that's just my take...As far as the Paula Deen supporters, pretty much speak for themselves & yes the pic shows virtually all white & quite a few chubby supporters (don't anyone get hurt, but that's what I see)...In Savannah many defend Paula Deen from Critics
You know she's going to get a lot of support from the butter and bacon grease people. When I've watched her shows I felt like a heart attack was coming on. Usually had to make sure I took my BP meds. Today there was this AA preacher from Georgia speaking on her behalf. He said that she wasn't a racist. They're going after her admission, in a deposition, that she used a racial slur decades ago, in the privacy of her own home, when talking to her husband. Since we didn't have the NSA back then, she shoulda lied. But then again, Mark Furmen did that in the OJ trial and that didn't work out too well either. I guess you just can't win.
And what annoys me about the targeting & bashing of Paula Deen by the usual suspects...(noticed that the no-talent unfunny summer replacement for John Stewart) took it upon himself to dump on her...these very same holier than thou critics generally seclude themselves from the general population...which I was reminded of yesterday...I mentioned we were going to hang out near the water, which turned out to be at a restaurant at Norwalk harbor (which was a fun afternoon)...with a ride along the 'gold coast' of lower fairfield county... being a beach road through southport, westport into norwalk where the homes along the road are somewhere in the $2 mil(which is likely cheap) & up range seriously...the likes of Harvey Weinstein (who hosted Obama at a fundraiser in one of the homes, phil donahue & until recently don imus) were on the way...mind you on that road, you barely see the roofs of most of the homes, the stone walls are long & high, lots of trees providing privacy & there is no parking on the side of the road so you don't get to stop & look...on one side of the road the homes actually border Long Island Sound & the other side pretty impressive views of the sound...don't get me wrong the homes you do see are exquisite, but the insulation from the real town/city they are a part of is oh so striking...there are no minorities visible (that would be black, hispanic for the most part around here) unless they may be working like mowing lawns, walking dogs or just being the hired help...& at the sections where there are 'public' beaches, there are no minorities, just the beautiful people of the gold coast most of the beaches are for town residents & 'outsiders' are well discouraged by charging a high fee to use it...trust me, the rich are different...but yet these are the same progressive/liberal voices that tell others how to deal with the problems of the urban cities (I am speaking of CT cities)when they never come in contact with the reality of those city populations...
For the most part the media crew that offer their opinions & castigate others on national tv don't live in cities like Bridgeport or Stamford (other than the outskirts) they wind up living in the really upscale virtually minority free suburban towns...for example, brian williams lives in New Canaan, maybe the wealthiest town in the country not just CT, with a minority population of like 1%...
We just watched the made for TV movie, The Jodi Arias Story. Do not told from whose perspective the screenplay was written, but it was surely not Jodi's. There was not any indication that he abused her. I did not watch any of the trial. I only heard bits and pieces. According to the story, she was a very scary woman.
Do not know from whose perspective...I should edit before pushing the orange button below.
I don't have an opinion about the Paula Deen story. However, it seems to me that someone was out to take her down.
I read in that article you linked that Paula's worth 17 million. I think she can afford a little vacation.
Coreen, I have noticed in the cities where I have lived that the very rich usually usually live far apart from minorities except as you say when minorities are the hired help.
Jan, Jodi is a very scary women. I did see watch the trial. Jodi has some serious mental issues. She was obsessed with Travis. I don't think that he abused her physically but I do believe he enjoyed using her and then because he was ashamed of himself for his weakness, he treated her like trash. From things that were said, I think Travis knew what was coming. He also had an unhealthy addiction to her and that addiction got him killed. I didn't want to see the movie because I heard enough of the gross details during the trial. I heard that they wrote the movie before the trial.
Most of those slurs are directed at poor people, some who are members of minority groups. Nasty things are also said about poor white people but no one notices those.
I think it would be fun to ask all these critics on TV, under oath, if they have ever said anything that was inappropriate in the privacy of their own homes.
Paula has a pretty impressive rags to riches life story. She was a single mom who started by making and bringing lunches to offices. I think that was her story. I do remember that she wasn't born with a silver butter spoon in her mouth.
I wonder if they understand that what they are doing to Paula will only cause more racial tension. Every day I get more disgusted with the media.
I've seen only a few of the Daily Show episodes since Jon is off. I'm glad I missed the one you are talking about Coreen. Jon often makes fun of Jewish stereotypes. I guess he can get by with that because he is Jewish. It's hard to tell what's politically correct these days.
Again for me, its about the hypocrisy of the liberals who think they are some how above the fray & yet condemn others who they don't see as deserving...the woman in slate a perfect example of my contempt for the elite liberalmedia gang & their allies...when she referred to 'the better among us' try to overcome cultural conditioning...but the likes of the 'butter loving' host pd don't...if i was cursing i'd say f off skank, but you know i don't curse!...and w/o doubt those tv chatters have uttered derogatory comments about others but they would excuse it when it comes from one of their own...bill maher the posterboy for venomous name calling but hey he's only an entertainer so he gets a pass...
Trust that Stewart would be right there dumping on deen Carol...have no dobut about that...& like the others when push comes to shove he can pontificate on what the rest of massses need to do not to be racially insensitive while living far from the problems...think he's a jersey boy but doesn't live in newark or jersey city or camden or trention...I could go on but you get the drift...& if he lives in NY sure its not harlem or bed styor the bronx...
P.S. if stewart is slamming jews its not the harvey weinstein type jew, its the netanyahu type jew...in other words jews that don't agree with his political/social agenda...but heyyou like him & agree with him so you see him through different eyes...
I really have stopped watching those comedy shows also Coreen. No matter how hard I try not to get pissed off these days, pissed off seems to keep finding me. And I agree with what you are saying.
on a better note to end the night...what about the supermoon for sunday...you probably will see it better than me...& I have to try to remember that wallenda is going to walk across the grand canyon & its on tv but not sure which channel or the time for sunday...fascinating to watch his high wire walks...no idea how he has the guts to do it...p.t. barnum would be proud of him...
I went out again tonight for Mexican food with my nurse friend. I'm not celebrating the solstice, I'm celebrating the super moon. Actually, I think that starts tomorrow.
Jan, there are quite a few evil wicked women out there. It's hard to think of women being that way. I watch a lot or the ID channel. These women kill there husbands, boyfriend, parents and children without a second thought. There are a couple of new missing very young children cases going on right now. One is like a rerun of the Casey Anthony story.
Seems like there are more and more sport's stars involved in murder also.
Gee.... you guys were busy here last night. I think once someone is accused of something there are plenty of people who will believe it... evidence or circumstances be damned. You want to ruin someone's life.... just accuse them of being a racist... or better yet... accuse them of child molestation. True or not doesn't matter.
Coreen...I can't quibble with anything you said. Although I watch Bill Maher. I don't agree with everything he says.... but he makes fun of both sides and he makes me laugh. I haven't seen this week's show yet... but I saw on huffpo a clip of where he was defending Deen. He's defended Rush Limbaugh too. Maher says he doesn't agree with much Rush says but defends his right to say it.
Oh.... and what annoys me the most about some liberals.... are those that go on and on about how much they hate the haters. They obviously don't see the irony.
Carol....yes... one of my beloved Boston Patriots is embroiled in a murder investigation. A lot of sports stars grew up as street thugs. You give a young man who grew up in the street culture a lot of money which he uses to buy a nice home, cars, women, and lots of other stuff associated with money... it doesn't change who they are. Sports teams.... which are owned mostly by very rich white guys... think that by surrounding these kids with a better atmosphere that they will be ok. But problems can arise if they still hang around with their street friends. And that is what Aaron Hernandez was doing. I will wait until I hear all the facts about his case.... but I have to admit... so far it doesn't look good.
I went to Huff Post to see the Bill Maher clip. He did try but he wasn't ready to sacrifice his career yet. It's a very touchy subject. I'm also not a big BM fan, unless it's the bodily function that those initials are representing and then that's something I do want to do every day. I always feel better after I have one.As I've said before I dropped HBO because of things BM said about Hillary. I originally got HBO just to watch him. He's quite a sextist, which turns me off but that's still OK. Hey, my computer even went offline more yesterday than usual after I posted my comments. I felt the PC gods watching me.
I do like Bill Maher. He is an entertainer. I too do not agree with all he says. John does not like him much because he puts down religion so much. Actually, I like him for that. I think religious groups are too powerful and they are businesses. I think they should lose the tax exempt status. I seldom watch political news. I try to keep up with national and world events. I like the Dr. Phil show simply because I like knowing about families. I don't like some of his tactics and the way he talks to some of the family members but I am interested in families and what is going on with families. We love Big Bang. It is the most entertaining show on TV - for us.
Reading some of the comments after articles about PD, she's getting almost more flack for the fat content of her recipes.
We have my son's poodle this weekend. She is a little bigger than Ryley. She is a great little dog. She was a little anxious at first but is pretty comfortable now. She and Ryley sort of ignore each other, but get along fine. Carol, today is Terry's birthday. He is 52 y/o. Hard for me to believe. Terry is my middle son.
I think it is surprising the there are not more of the big sports stars involved in criminal activities
Hate is alive and well in America and I think that it's getting worse not better.
Happy Birthday Terry.
Bill Maher defending Deen...let me see...was his defense more to address his own offensive comments in the past & surely to come...haven't looked at the clip or repeats of his sow, but seems Carol you are suggesting it was more in the vein of covering hisown interests more than support of paula deen...
Coreen, I think the Wallenda walk will air on Discovery at 7p central. I will wait until after it is over to see if he makes it.
No Coreen....his comments were more along the lines of how much he isn't into all this PC stuff... just like you aren't. He very much believes in people being able to speak their minds.... even if it is offensive. I remember he had plenty to say about how poorly he thought MSNBC treated one of your favorites.... Don Imus. He ended by asking why do people have to go because they made a mistake. I agree with that in principle.... but tv and radio corps have a right to protect their interest (and yes... that means money). You don't like Maher.... that's fine. I do... and will continue to defend him.
Renee, my disgust with those that claim to be 'liberal' is that theyare the ones that tend to be the biggest hypocrites...being a hypocrite, phony is a pretty big deal for me...I have little use for that type of person...and yes am aware of your patriot player's trouble...you do know that what you wrote about street kids/quick wealth/failure to move on from their upbring (in a lib's mind, qualifies you to be branded with the r word...how dare you even suggest such a thing!!)...and by the way I care less who someone likes to watch/listen to...just tire of the fake outrage...
Coreen...Maher does not call himself a liberal. He says he's more of a libertarian. BTW... I don't call myself a liberal either. And yes.... I'm well aware that those comments about street thugs would brand me as a racist. My bad... :)
Renee, I watched Maher for ages & like Carol drifted away from him when he attacked Hillary, the same for Keith O...& as I said could care less who watches him or others...just as long as they don't defend him while slamming those they detest...As for Imus, grew up listening to him long before he was on TV..& have always felt he got the shaft from all those selfserving libs he gave a forum to, when they would come on yucking it up (usually pushing a book or something else they were trying to sell)...an excellent example of all those I consider frauds, phony, hypocrites who turned their back on him...a few come to mind well virtually the entire gang at msnbc from matthews, the boston guy who when he plagiarized his newspaper column way back when, imus backed him w/o blinking an eye, to the smarmy book writer that used to appear regularly forgot his name also was editor of I think newsweek...
Better news at least for you & me, Renee...weather prediction in today's CT Post that the Northeastwill likely not have as hot a summer as last year...which was one of the 10 hottest on record...Prediction Pleasant Summer
OK Carol, just checked for the discovery channel listings & yesthat's where Wallenda's walk is, live starting at 8 pm eastern time, with a 2 hour pre-show from 6 to 8...
Coreen... that Boston guy is Mike Barnicle. I think the only one to defend Imus from msnbc during the time was Craig.Well.... we're going to spend this lovely Sunday afternoon in Sears. While vacuuming before my friends arrived on Friday, our vacuum cleaner died. Now this morning our air conditioner decided to take it's turn.Maybe we'll stop for ice cream on the way home.
Jan, I just love the Big Bang. I never watched it because it looked dumb. You reintroduced it to me. Thanks. It's given me hours of hardy laughter. They have a marathon on about 4 times a week on TBS. I've seen most of the episodes at least once. Occasionally I will catch one that I haven't seen.
Carol, the news just mentioned Wallenda's walk on tv woould be broadcast on a 10 second delay so your good to watch it 'live'...
I started watching Big Bang when we were on a cruise several years ago. We had this tiny B&W TV in our room and every day just before bedtime there was an episode of Big Bang. It seemed kind of silly to me the first couple of episodes. By the end of the cruise, I was hooked.
Coreen, did you watch Wallenda? When I woke up I did check to see if he made it. I wasn't going to watch. Too tense for my taste. I think he's nuts but if that's what he likes to do, so be it. I read that his uncle, when he was in his 70s, fell to his death walking a wire. I'd think that if a person felt good enough to walk a wire at that age, it may not be a good time to go quite yet.
Carol, watched it for a few minutesoff & on, since it took more than 20 minutes to complete the walk...the camera angles at times were strange, as if the background canyon walls were moving, the long shots could barely see him in the middle of the canyon, the winds were swirling, a long way down..he kept talking to his father, mostly thanking jesus along the way...
I was watching Food Network last night. They had an advertisement for Wallenda's walk on Discovery at 8pm.The funny thing is that it was aired at 8:30 pm. I was laughing and thinking he's probably more than half way through it by now.
Renee, no, the show itself was 2+ hours long, the walk didn't start until well maybe 9:30 or so & as mentioned it took more than 20 min to complete, when he reached the end of the walk, he jumped down & kissed the ground...
Coreen... ok... my mistake.I don't blame him for kissing the ground. I've been to the Grand Canyon several times. The last time Rick and I took a helicopter ride over it. Seeing the canyon in pictures or on the tv doesn't do it justice... you really have to see it for yourself to actually see it's immense size and depth.
Renee, yes seeing the Grand Canyon is amazing...one of the few timesI just shut my mouth when we looked at it...seemed to go on forever, the depth, the width & the colors...a true wonder of the world...we drove from Flagstaff AZto the south rim of the canyon...I think Wallenda kissed the ground because he made it, since the conditions he was battling in that20 minute walk were to say the least challenging...
On a different note, reminded of this in the morning paper.. AMA designated obesity a disease, in so doing creates controversy for those that see it as further stigmatizing the condition...Honestly don't know what to say, I have a friend who is w/o question obese & he has gone through so many unsucessful diets, lost many pounds, only to gain more later over the years...Labeling obesity a disease AMA creates controversy
I don't think that I would agree with obesity being a disease. I think the conditions that lead to it are hereditary. It's almost impossible to prevent without radical lifestyle changes that most of us don't want to make. Strict diets usually create more obesity. Now a days, they almost consider pregnancy a disease.
Well... as anyone can see from my pictures... I'm fat.I was skinny until I hit puberty. I played basketball, softball, and field hockey in high school (the only sports allowed to girls at the time)... and yet I struggled with my weight. I've tried numerous diets. And yes... I found I could temporarily lose a few pounds only to put them back on and then some. I do love to eat, but do not eat large quantities of food.Carol... I agree with you about the medical establishment considering almost everything a disease nowadays. I've started to call it "the medical industrial complex".
My friend who I've known 30 years from law school on would lose the equivalent of a person, numerous times, then put it all back on, does love to eat...& his 2nd wife cooks up a storm (his kids joke that she is trying to kill him with food)...he has very bad knees, don't know how they support his body weight & walking looks so painful for him...not to mention his huffing/puffing just walking a short distance...but as he always maintained unlike other obsessions/addictions, be it smoking, alcohol, drugs, none of which do you have to do to live, eating is what keeps you alive...so to declare obesity a disease, not sure what it does for those who live with it...So is the AMA just creating another money making proposition by doing so, with the idea that as a disease, insurers will have to pay doctors for 'treating' the disease...you know I am both cynical & skeptical of people's motives...
IMO, people should avoid any radical diets. Add a little exercise, as often as possible, even if it's just 10 to 15 minutes, and throw in more veggies. Then learn to live with what heredity has given you.
Paula is due to come on the Today show Wednesday. I'd love it if she would turn the tables on Matt and ask him to take an oath that he has never said anything in his past that he would now be ashamed of.
Now I've seen some of the videos of Wallenda's wire walk. He was scared. His sister said she'd never seen that worried look on his face.
I count my grocery shopping at Walmart as one of my exercise sessions.
There's more crap coming out against Paula. Maybe it's time that she throw in the towel and be happy that she had such a good run.
Carol...I haven't been following the news about Deen... but perhaps the old cliche of where there's smoke there's usually a fire might apply here.I'm sure she has plenty of money and could retire easily. It is too bad... I've been buying her line of chicken products at the grocery store... I really like them. Maybe they'll be on sale now and I can stock my freezer.
What kind of chicken products does Paula sponsor? She's got her hands in everything. Well she HAD her hands in everything. I still think that 17 million should hold her for a few years. Maybe, if nothing more serious comes out, she'll be back in the kitchen. She does have her own restaurant and it had lines rapped around the block to get in. I didn't want to give the impression that I would defend Paula for anything. I'm sure y'all understand that I just don't think we should hold it against people what they might have said decades ago, in the privacy of their own homes. What's done in public is a different matter.A friend told me that even Whoppie, on the View, was excusing what Paula may have said years ago. She also said that Nancy Grace was co-hosting and she really came down on Paula. I hold Nancy accountable for some of the awful things she says every day. To Nancy, everyone is guilty of something. I bet she has some skeletons in her closet.
Renee, did you have fun at your solstice celebration?
Carol...oh you know... chicken stuff... breasts, thighs, legs, wings. They were supposedly free of antibiotics. They cost about the same as the store brand and I liked them.Had a blast at my party Friday night. One of my friends, Jeanne, tells the best and funniest stories. She had us in stitches all night describing her experiences at this place where she gets a pedicure. We ate lots of Chinese food.... of course there were leftovers... Rick and I have been eating them for a couple days. We drank almost the entire punch bowl of sangria. Luckily, no one had far to drive. We'll get together at someone else's home whenever the spirit moves someone to say... "hey, we need a girl's night out".
Most research shows that weight loss programs are, in general, a complete failure in terms of long term effectiveness. I don't know whether it should be considered a disease or not. It is sort of like alcoholism in that merely using will power has been shown not to work. My thoughts are: if someone wants to lose wt and declaring it a disease gives them greater access to help in their goal, than I am for it. Of course, whether I am for it or not - does not matter now as it has been determined by The Docs that - it is a disease.
I am happy to report that yesterday I began to have less pain around my knee. My GI doc had recommended heat. I had this little sand filled cloth bag that I microwaved for about one minute and it definitely did help. I am able to walk some without pain. Of course, it may be that the Aleve is beginning to work. I was taking the Aleve about every 6-8 hours and now I can go 11-12 hours between doses. For sleep, I bought a heating pad at Walgreens for in bed. I use it about 15-20 min and then shut if off before going to sleep. I am getting more sleep now. It does hurt worse at night.
Renee, your party Fri night sounds great. Glad you had lots of fun. That is what life is about.
I don't know what to say about Paula Deen. I never watched her show, but was entertained by her appearances on other shows. I think she had brought her sons into the business. This will certainly affect them and their families also.
There is metabolic syndrome in which central obesity is one characteristic. The others include abnormal blood lipid levels and glucose intolerance.
Heard on HLN's entertainment program a piece of an interview Paula did a while back with the NYT during the diabetes controversy. She was introducing one of her trusted group members who was a black man and she asked him to come out and then asked him to step away from this black board because they couldn't see him. I don't really think that Paula even realized how that sounded. One problem is that Paula is a little socially backward. Maybe she has some Aspergers. I bet it would even be difficult to explain to her why that was not an appropriate thing to say.
Jan, I think her sons are safe for now. I think there has been some tension between mother and sons about how Paula continues to cook. Her sons cook using low fat, healthy ingredients.
Jan, Aleve is longer acting and should be taken less often. The OTC does say from 8 to 12 hours. Most prescription strength Naproxen 500mg is taken every 12 hours.
I'm thinking that Paula Deen is what we down in these parts call uncouth. If she still plans to go on the Today Show Wednesday I fear it will be a disaster. Hope someone talks her out of it. But you don't have to have a lot of couth to be a good cook. She's lucky she's gone this long without any problems.
Yup... my beloved Boston Bruins lost the Stanley Cup last night to the Chicago Black Hawks. But what a series! I thank my Bruins for a fun season and making it all the way to the finals. I salute the Black Hawks for winning it all.... they are worthy opponents.Actually... I'm kinda glad it's over. The finals in hockey used to be played in April. Now with all the expansion teams ( yes Coreen, I know it's all about the money) it seems kinda silly to be watching hockey when it's 92 degrees outside.
Renee, sorry about that...and playing hockey when its 90, likeplaying baseball when its freezing & snowing ...all the major sports have extended their seasons...basketballused to end in april about the time baseball started, now it drags into summer & the superbowlwas the beginning of January (I remember the best one like it was yesterday January 12, 1969!!!) now its in February...
This is an interesting article. Viewpoint: The Food Network Should Give Paula Deen Back Her JobThe man who wrote the article..."John McWhorter is an associate professor of English and comparative literature at Columbia University. He earned his PhD in linguistics from Stanford University in 1993 and became associate professor of linguistics at UC Berkeley after teaching at Cornell University. He was senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute from 2002 until 2010."If you click on his bib, you can find other interesting articles he's written about the use of language.
The Deen thing, for me, it's played out, not much more 'gotcha' left, just rehashing the same old stuff...the media & their allies are nothing but smarmy hypocrites...
Sorry Renee about your hockey team. I was listening to my sport's guy yesterday when I went to feed my herd of cats. He's fun to listen to even if you aren't really a sport's fan. He likes to gossip. He was saying that there's nothing right now to talk about because all the sports are essentially over except baseball and it's too early in their season to get too excited. When he said that, I again thought...the hockey finals are not over. Just as I thought that, he said...no one cares about hockey. I still think that if you are a sport's radio host, you should pretend to like them all. Just my opinion. He spent a good bit of time talking about that Hernandez guy and said that he was glad he had that to talk about.
Coreen...I remember that Super Bowl... Broadway Joe! I still love Namath. So what if had too much to drink while doing an interview with Suzy whatshername.... he was at a football game and having a good time. The best one for me was 2001... nothing ever tops the first time you watch your team win.
Carol... your herd of cats... ROFL! (sorry, I know it's really nothing to laugh about). I know hockey isn't that popular... it doesn't bother me.And I agree with Coreen... the Deen story has had it's fifteen minutes of fame.Jan... I'm so glad that your knee is feeling better.
Not surprising but interesting The way the Deen thing has been spun by the media, when you read the headlines, you would think that she was out in public yesterday screaming the n word for everyone to hear...the headline as presented steers the discussion & since most don't bother to look beyond the headline the message sent is what the media wants you to believe...
Joe Namath remains my fav ever football player...HBO had a doc about him maybe last year, he addressed the suzy fiasco, she appeared on it too, I believe he had already sought her out & apologized & took responsibility for his drinking problems...
Carol, the Naproxin I am taking is not prescription strength. It is 220 mg/gel capsule. I have not taken more than 660 mg in a 24 hr period. I have experienced another good effect. My so-called allergies may have been inflamed sinuses. I have not been having so much nasal drainage. That has been great. However, I am having all the symptoms that go along with an anti-cholinergic response.
Oh no, Carol don't want to add to the apprehension about spying, but can't resist...remember I mentioned westport & the beautifulpeople...well lo & behold look what the photog captured...scroll down the website & there it is hovering over compo beach.... Someone is watching you
Dang Coreen, I'd think that was a UFO and freak out. Do you have any more info on that pic?
Jan, didn't realize that NAIDs had an anticholenergic effect.
Didn't watch it but it seems that both attorneys in the Zimmerman trial made a bad impression with their opening statements. Wallenda is on the View this morning.
This Paula Deen stuff has made me remember times when I worry about some common saying and wonder if it sounds racist. I think that it's not a bad thing that we are discussing this. When I go to Popeye's chicken and order chicken and say I want the two piece all white dinner, I cringe at what I'm saying. I know that may sound ridiculous.
Oh, and Jan, I heard on the View that Paula's sons did come out with a statement of support for their mom. We'll see if that hurts them also. And the media was also going after Bill Maher for saying that this should not end Paula's career.
Carol, I just read that some people who take Naproxen can have anticholinergic syndrome. since I have been taking it, I have experience these kinds of symptoms, dry mouth, etc.
Carol, I have been reading the stuff about her sons and Bill Maher. I believe she has crossed the line in several ways.
After what I have read now, I would fire Paula Deen. My believe that racism in the southeast, is so much a part of the southeast that most people do not know when they are being racist. That is the only defense I would offer PD. I think it is very interesting that many people say that there is no longer racism in this country.
opps, my believe = I believe
I over edited that last statement to the extent that it does not make much sense. I will let it stand.
Carol, I do want to apologize for singling out the southest as being racist. As someone on here recently posted There is racism in all groups of people and areas of the country. There is a large body of research showing that African American women have a disproportionate number of premature babies. The conclusions to this research are claiming that it is racism in this country that is primarily to blame. They presume this because this high rate of prematurity in AA's does not occur in other countries. The research shows that this rate of prematurity occurs not just in the lower income groups of AA's but also in higher income and well educated African American women.
I googled the definition of racism:NounThe belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, esp. so as to distinguish it as...Prejudice or discrimination directed against someone of a different race based on such a belief. With that definition, I don't think a person's use of that prohibited racial slur in the past would necessarily make them a racist. We would have to know what's in their heart and mind and how they treat members of a different race. I think we are too quick to label people as racist.
It's a scary topic to even discuss.
Carol...I agree. Just being willing to have the discussion and ask questions can result in one being labeled a racist.IMO, this subject is the most sensitive and can lead to the most misunderstandings.
My prediction is that Paula will do OK. This will blow over. This provided us an opportunity to be uncomfortable and say uncomfortable things. Bill, Imus and Rush all survived. I woke up thinking that maybe true racism doesn't exist so much anymore except with those white supremacist. I'm not really sure who they hate, maybe everyone. It's just that we are ALL capable of being mean and saying mean things, that we don't even mean. And what I find amusing is that those attacking Paula are the one's now who look mean but that's OK because we all have our mean moments. LOL.
My meanest moments come when I'm not happy with myself.
Only caught the tail end of the today segment...what I saw was most unconfortable to watch, a sadwhite woman raised in the south, being asked to defend herself for who she is/was...she was crying, weeping & for me it was something she should never have agreed to do in the first place...Oh & p.s., when imus was being attacked, he foolishly went on a radio show hosted by sharpton, & that was a bad move, accomplished nothing at the time...Carol, mentioning Bill Maher, Imus& Rush...not sure but don't remember any of them being accused of using the n word...which as I keep saying about paula deen, she has not done anything in public to deserve the venom & hate being piled on her...the most recent incidents (if even acccurate) suggest shedidn't come down on others who may or may not have done things that in certain groups would be considered racist, sexist, yada, yada...I have a real problem with the entire push by those with an agenda to make her the poster child for I'm not even sure what!...The only person I remember who actually said the n word in public & suffered instant retribution was the actor/comedian who played kramer...& pretty sure he has for the most part been invisible since that time...I have more contempt for all those thowing the racist card at deen then whatever she may or may not have done...will the today appearance help her regain herstature, my instinct say not a chance...because she is not among the group that the pc liberal crowd will let off the hook...
Coreen, I couldn't watch the Today show thing. I knew it would be a disaster. She was thinking that those people were her friends. Hah. Most would throw their own mothers under the bus for ratings.
For what its worth...yesterday some democratic congressional representative from I believe minn. tweeted what most would consider a racially tinged slur agains the conservative supreme court justice thomas...so far there has been no or little if any blowback for this guy by the phony, hypocrites in the media...& yes I am aware that the guy is not a world wideknown figure like a paula deen, butif the outraged media was consistent, honest & really interested in exposing racism in all its ugliness, then damn straight he should be exposed to the world & subjected to the samedegree of venom as someone like paula deen...maybe more so, since this guy is a so-called representative of all the people in his district, serving in the u.s. congress...
Just heard that Hernandez was arrested. Can the Patriots can change Tebow into a tight end.
Carol...that is what Patriots fans have been asking since it was first announced they had signed Tebow. He keeps insisting that he's a quarterback. As for Hernandez... no one knows what the charges are until he appears in court later today. But this can't be good. So sad. He had just signed a long term big money contract with a nice fat signing bonus. So much potential just thrown away.
Well... I'm sure by now you've heard that Hernandez has been arrested and charged with murder. Yikes!Of course he's innocent until proven guilty... but wtf was he thinking...
BTW...that rug you see in my last picture... it's a cotton rag rug and I designed and wove it.
the paula deen bashing seems to have no end...tm was revealing...but what was being said about paula deen led me to wonder where did this all start...seems the National Enquirer was made aware of paula deen's deposition given in 2013 in an employment discrimination case filed by an ex-employee of a restaurant run by deen's brother (& part of the deen enterprises, together with another restaurant & her tv show)...the deposition is online, reading it offers a much different view then what is being spun by the vile media & their minions to destroy this woman...what comes across is that paula deen was doing her best to defend her brother, who likely is/was a drunken, coke head pig who shouldn't have been running a restaurant ...still don't see her as a racist, but rather a very much southern woman, who worked her ass off, became successful & but for the ahole brother would not be in the mess she is today...is their merit to the underlying discrimination lawsuit...no idea...only one side is being made known so far...don't like to keep repeating myself but the media & their minions are such hypocrites...
Renee, beautiful rug
Love the rug Renee. Love the colors. Agree Coreen. Paula needs to stay away from the media until this dies down. They are just trying to burn her at the stake. The fact that she has been visible in many social situations and on TV for a good many years, I don't think she could have any serious problems with racism or it would have been obvious way before this. She's been on most of the major networks over the years and I assume they never noticed any problems or we would have heard about it before she did that deposition. Watching those people who are acting totally intolerant of her now and want to close her down and watching those who feel like her past mistake shouldn't completely destroy her...IMHO, the former group look like the real assholes.
Renee, I watched the news when Hernandez was brought into court and read his charges. The prosecution did read much of the evidence they had but it was hard to hear. There is a lot of serious circumstantial evidence against him. I hate to see it when these talented youngsters blow everything for a moment of terrible judgement. I also can't see how they could possibly believe that they can get away with it.
Coreen, I don't think your Yankees were quite ready to hear from A-Rod yet. What ya think?
Yeah... I jumped into the fray on tm... but if you noticed, I never mentioned Ms Deen. I agree with you both Coreen and Carol. Instead of this being a lesson of how to be more sensitive toward race... I think it's going to end up being nothing more than finger pointing. It looks like the North vs the South... how stupid.
Carol...The Patriots knew that Hernandez was involved with some rough characters and circumstances before they signed him. They thought it was minor and they could help him clean up his act. Guess they were wrong.Just goes to show that sometimes you can throw all the money you want at some problems and it doesn't change a thing.
Alex/Cashman dustup...no big deal really, just something to fill the back pages of the NYPost & Daily News...meanwhile can't seem to get any traction & those pesky red soxcontinue to be in first place!...
yes Renee, saw that you tried to lower the temperature...I found it interesting with just who was saying what at TM...the couple of voices that I believe were children of the south were pretty low key with regard to criticism and quite honestly was disappointed at the tone & choice of words to apparently emphasize a point...it wound up sounding like everything we have been saying about how the subject has been presented by the media...for me, it has been a good decision to remove myself from participating there...
I'm kinda over Paula. She had a good run. I did hear that her butter is on sale at Walmart. I never realized how many affiliations she had. Nothing is forever.
I'm glad that I haven't read TM in the last couple of days. I'm still in my trying to avoid anger mode. When those sport's teams have a potential bad boy with a history on their rooster, they ought to hire a body guard to keep them in line. It might be worth the money.
Looks like you guys's next week is going to be pretty damp.
I just heard that Hernandez had.."if it is to be, it's up to me, tatooed on his arm. It was something that his father told him. I guess having that on his arm didn't help keep him out of trouble.
Carol... if you don't want to see anger, then I highly recommend you don't read tm. A lot of anger being thrown around. Including some choice words thrown at one of those low key southerners by a former swampian.... but surprise... it's been deleted. They reported on the news last night that they were going to look at every tattoo on Hernandez' body to make sure he wasn't part of some gang.
It is already Carol...raining, murky, muggys...& next week is 4th of July...whoever came up with the saying 'time flys' was so right...maybe it's an aging phenom, but seems like in a blink of an eyeeach year passes so fast...And before I forget, Renee, I know you will enjoy your weekend party with Craig et al...hope you snap a few pics to share...hope the weather holds up that way...
Coreen...I almost made the same decision as you have about tm.But I adore Craig and some of the posters. I probably won't participate as much as I have in the past... but I'm not ready to leave yet.Same weather up here... really yucky this morning.
Looks like I missed those Renee, now it makes more sense of you trying to calm the waters. I thought you were referring to the tone of the discussion itself...the disappearing comments must havehappened by the time I dropped by...I was put off by the anger that was coming from one of my favorite people & thought inserting the n word didn't really add much to the discussion...Guess I just don't understand the rage & anger that appears to drive the conversations...
A friend has been telling me about things that are going on with her mom in a nursing home. There is so much abuse of Medicare going on, ordering of unnecessary services. I'm sure that's going on everywhere but families are unaware of it or don't know how inappropriate the services are. Multiply that times millions and there's no wonder we have such a health care crisis.
One more comment....the profiling of southerners as a bunch of prejudice, dumbass hicks is just as bad as any other prejudice.
And try to prove that you aren't something that people want to label you as.
Carol... my contention is that all prejudice is just as bad as any other prejudice. And I mean anywhere in the world. The Chinese don't like the Japanese. The Sunnis don't like the Shias. The Tutsi don't like the Hutu. It goes on everywhere... not just the US. It's part of the human experience.Go to any small town with a contentious issue... watch how people who normally live in harmony in a community split into factions and start calling each other names.
If ya drink beer down here, your good with everyone....until they run out.
Carol... ROFL!It wouldn't work in my town... half the population are teetotalers. There a religious sect that left Finland because they couldn't get their way in that progressive country. They landed in my small town about 3 generations ago. They don't drink, dance and they're not supposed to watch television. Maybe their parents and grandparents followed those rules.... but we all know the younger ones don't. Still, they would never drink in public.
Like I've told y'all before, alcohol doesn't agree with me but even if it did, I think beer tastes like it's already been consumed before. Looks like it also. Never understood how people acquire a taste for it.
I'm not really into beer either. The only kind I can drink is Bud Light w/Lime. Rick bought me a six pack of it this past weekend and it will probably take me all summer to drink it. I like one when it's at least 90 degrees and we're barbecuing hot dogs or hamburgers.Rick loves beer. He only drinks one at a time unless he's with friends and then he'll have a couple. Right now he's drinking light beer. But in the winter he likes those dark heavy ones. Just looking at them can make me gag.
Curiosity got the best of me and I went over to TM to read and I enjoyed the comments. Somehow, again, I missed a couple of the comments here. I guess that happens when I post a comment at about the same time. They were discussing the Zimmerman trial and I've been watching it. If I woulda seen that yesterday, I woulda jumped in with some comments.
I found Ms Jeantel interesting. I think that I understood her communication better than most of the TV commentors. My experiences in nursing and in corrections helped there. I also found it interesting that the women attorneys thought that she helped the prosecution and the men thought she helped the defense. The jury is all women. That's going to be interesting.
You guys already know that I think that Zimmerman is at least guilty of manslaughter, without any further evidence. The fact that he had a gun, didn't follow the suggestion to stop following Travon, didn't identify himself as neighborhood watch, and killed the young man, is enough for that charge. Even if Travon did eventually jump him, which I don't believe.
I have also been watching that HLN After Dark. I like to hear what regular people think, not those attorneys. They have a jury of regular people on every night.
Renee, did you see that Hernandez has been charged with two more murders. Seems like those were others that he has cross words with in a bar. Looking at Hernandez, he has kinda a sweet innocent looking face. Looks can be deceiving.
Carol...Hernandez has not been charged with 2 more murders. There's an ongoing investigation into whether he's involved or not. Most of my local news channels come from Boston... it's not possible to even turn it on just to see the weather report without hearing about Hernandez. I did see an interview on one local station last night with the criminologist professor at Northeasten U saying he thinks Hernandez is probably a sociopath. It's so sad.
I've watched a bit of the Zimmerman trial. I usually put on MSNBC to listen to Tamron Hall at 2pm while I'm weaving. They've been airing the trial in her time slot. It's interesting.
Not going over to TM for several days, I missed some of the most interesting discussions. None of it pissed me off.
Looky what I found while rummaging around on the net...."Paula Deen has lost both sponsors and respect for her use of racial epithets, but the fallout has evidently not extended to the southern celebrity chef's book sales.Sales for her upcoming cookbook, "Paula Deen's New Testament," climbed to the top of the Amazon books best-sellers list this week for pre-orders, Reuters reported. The book is due out on Oct. 15. Deen's other book, "Southern Cooking Bible," is currently second on the list."I knew there'd be a backlash for the pounding she's taken.... hell... maybe I'll preorder her upcoming book.
Interesting title for her book. Maybe she sensed that a crucifixion was headed her way.
I wonder if the prosecution is more likely to get some conviction with an all female jury? I seem to remember that the females on the Jodi jury were tougher than the men but then Jodi was a woman. Maybe women are tougher on women and men on men. Don't know. Even though OJ got off because he was a celebrity, I heard during that trial that AA were usually tougher on the average AA than white people are.
Not well-known names, but looks like there are still some companiesstanding up for paula deen...remains to be seen if they suffer from the wild eyed enraged hypocrites that can't seem to let it go...just heard on the radio that qvc is refraining from severing ties with her, letting things cool down I suspect, maybe because their customer base are more likely to supoort pd then not...compaines tht are showing support of paula deen
the oj verdict, from what I recall that was the perfect example of jury nullification...& it was based solely on race, not on any evidence...
the florida prosecutor may not get a conviction because of the quality or lack thereof of the evidence being presented...from the news reports, there sure seems like a lot of doubt in the case they are presenting...& no I have not watched it, only heard/seen snippets on the news...
So far Coreen, I don't see enough evidence to get Zimmerman for 2nd degree murder. So far. Manslaughter yes, even though the law in Florida does state that even if someone starts a fight, that person can use extreme force if he feels his life is threatened. I'm afraid he just might get away with murder. He may have to stay in hiding. Maybe he can get a place with Casey.
I think that Travon was worried that Zimmerman was a perv coming after him. That's what I got from his female friend. I think she may have even suggested it. If I were him, I probably would have considered the same thing if I was being followed by him.
Trial is pretty dull today.
I didn't watch any of the trial today... kept public radio on instead.Hey Jan... come on out and play with us. It's ok by me if you have a different opinion on Deen or any other subject. You're as entitled to your opinions as anyone else.
For the most part any trial is 'dull'...if you mean there wereno earth shattering revelations...rarely are there perry mason moments...but today didn't the testimony of the guy who was a neighbor & 'witnessed' the altercation contradict the prosecution's other witness when he testified that Z was on the bottom & M was straddling him?...(reported on the news)..it is my understanding that Z is claiming self-defense & not utilizing FL stand your ground law...you are speculating as to what happened aren't you?, ie what M thought about Z 'perv' come on!!...don't believe that any facts have been presented to in any way support such a contention... and the woman who was the 'star' witness, no matter how the commentators for the M side spin it...she was dreadful, embarassing..the prosecution failed to properly prepare her...what bits were shown on last nights newscasts made me shake my head at how poorly she came across...
And looks like the paula deen book deal lost its publisher, at least for the forseeable future...publisher cancels multibook paula deen contract
TM girlfriend said they thought GZ was a perv. Did you hear that in her testimony. You had to listen very carefully. If you're a young man and some guy is following you around, it might be something you worry about. His girlfriend also suggested it.At the end of the confrontation TM had to be on top because when he was shot he landed face down. The only way to land that way is if he was sitting up when he was shot. I've already considered that. Also, autopsy finding of powder burns indicated that his shirt was several inches away from his body when he was shot. If he was on his back, the shirt would have been against his body. I don't think that means that he attacked Zimmerman initially. I still wonder why GZ never identified himself as neighborhood watch. Then TM wouldn't have been afraid of him. If he had identified himself, he would have said that he did and he never has. The biggest point is...if GZ would have followed the suggestion of 911 and not followed TM, the kid would still be alive.
Also, TM could have used the stand your ground defense but he's dead.
I hope Jan is not staying away because of PD. That woman is not worth that.
Did y'all hear that GZ defense attorney's daughter made a real inappropriate tweet about her dad and the case. Twitter gets a lot of people in trouble. Dumb must run in the family. Her dad started his opening statement with a knock knock joke and it wasn't even a funny joke.
Hi folks, I am not staying away. I have had a busy week. So much going on here that I don't know where to start. Not really interested in the PD thing any longer. I think the news people are taking up too much time with the topic.
I spent a bit of the day yesterday pondering young Travon and his family. I have no kids and when I was young and wanting some, the fears of all that would be involved raising them did make me do some serious pondering. Really, I was young and fertile and already worrying about that. Crazy, I know. I don't think most people ponder all the possible problems that kids can bring into their lives. If they did..they might end up deciding not to have children. I knew one lady who I worked with years ago who had decided with her physician husband, not to have any kids. They were the sweetest couple I knew. She accidentally got pregnant and after that, they ended up with about 5. I guess the Universe knew she really didn't know what she wanted or that she was wrong.
When Travon's phone pal was testifying, I was thinking about one of my best phone pal friends. Our relationship was, for years, mostly a phone pal one. She and I both had severe crises at the same time and neither one of us had any reserve to deal with the other's so we stopped communicating for months. I think that it was the day that Ms. Jeantel testified that we reconnected. Ms Jeantel and Travon's relationship reminded me a lot of my relationship with my phone pal, spend hours on the phone talking trivia and seldom ever see each other. When others didn't, I found Ms Jeantel to be a quite credible witness. I just had to strain to understand her. Yep, she lied about some things prior to her court date but she admitted that and why. Made sense to me.
Last night, the HLN anchors were saying what a fascinating day it was in court yesterday. Not the trial that I was watching. They lied. They were just trying to suck in viewers because if anyone watched, it was as dull as dirt. These trials have gotten HLN a big ratings boost and they are playing it for all it's worth. The only reason we're interested is because it fills the boredom in our lives or gives us a break from our own crises. Same with PD.
Yesterday was the first day since I retired that I actually lost track of what day of the week it was. I thought it was Thursday until I heard something on TV referencing the weekend. That scared me. I guess it's not that important what day it is because they all look alike now.
Did anyone hear if the record for the hottest day on the planet was broken yesterday? I think it was in Death Valley. I've been having record numbers of hot flashes and it's not even that high here yet. Still higher than I desire.
Carol...I frequently don't know what day it is. If Rick was in his office, it must be a weekday... if not, it's the weekend. But now that he's retired, it's more confusing.I may talk about PD or the Zimmerman case here or on tm... but really, I'm more like Coreen... I actually barely pay attention. Life is what you make it. The only time I'm ever bored is when I'm forced to make small talk with relatives. As for the weather... I just said on tm that I know I live in New Hampshire, but it feels more like Hampshire, England. Everything is constantly wet. But I'll take it over all that heat out west any day.
Hey Renee, did I miss something, is this the weekend you are going to the Craig shindig?...And yes the weather continues to be murky...yesterday I looked out at my hibiscus & many of the leaves are yellow...not sure why, to many possibilities included to much water...will have to try some kind of fix asap...Small talk...not just relatives for me...I really have no patience for small talk with strangers/acquaintances at social functions...just smile, hug/shake hands & listen to silly stories that you can care less about...so boring....
About that heatwave in the West...did anyone hear if it is going to make its way east...since most weather patterns that start in the west usually wind up here...
Looks like Jan might even get some rain today. I saw green over her area on TWC. Next couple of days here don't look too rainy but maybe after that. In this heat, I don't mind a nice thunderstorm. Can't speak for Maggie.
Maggie and I are still walking every morning and... getting later in the evening. We do have all kinds of challenges. I might get out in the morning and I'm not quite finished with my morning bathroom routine. I have to drag Maggie and run back home. In the evening there have been dogs giving us problems. One is just a small dog bought to visit by his pet family. She tries to play with Maggie. There are other dogs just sitting in the back of a pickup truck. They aren't tied in there and I'm not sure how disciplined they are about staying. I'm in no shape to grab Maggie and run.
Renee, you may not be able to pre order Paula's cookbook. Sounds like her publisher is dropping her also. She may have some bad karma to burn off. We all seem to have our troubling times. I've certainly had some recently. When they come, we hold on tight and hope they are clearing our slate. At least her slate is a little more padded with money than the rest of ours.
Coreen... yes, this is the weekend of Craig & David's party. It's tomorrow. We are staying over in Gloucester for 2 nights... be back home Tuesday. Just a mini vacation.Carol.... yeah, I know I can no longer pre-order PD's upcoming book. Coreen linked to the fact that the publisher dropped her yesterday. I think she will survive... but she's going on bit more than a mini vac a.
Well, I just got in from cleaning out the front seat of my truck. The back, cab space, is still full of stuff but I don't want to bring it in because I already have too much stuff inside. I need to just throw away 90 percent of what I have. It's not really trash but it's not anything I need. I need to bring it somewhere so that someone can use it. I did finally learn several years ago not to buy stuff but it was too late.
PD should have just STFU. Then she asked Jesse Jackson for help? Like he's gonna rescue her. We did learn that she wasn't the brightest bulb in the box.
If you haven't left yet Renee, where are you guys meeting and how long does it take to get there? I'm jealous.
I really need a vacation but I'm still praying about what to do with those cats. I didn't ask for them. I did agree with God to take care of Fiddler. I could pay the little neighbor girl to go feed her every day but with all the others, she has to be watched just to get to eat her food. The only option I can think of is to get a trap cage and take them one by one to the animal shelter. They would end up getting put down but I can't give up my life to continue have a cat factory.
If I could have handled the problem much earlier it wouldn't have gotten this bad but I didn't ask for my 5 months of injuries.
Jan, did you see your doc yet? If so, what did you find out? How's your knee feeling? Do you think you might get some rain?
Carol...we are leaving tomorrow morning. Craig and David are being given a reception party at David's sister's, Dale, house in Gloucester Massachusetts. It is a fishing community on the north shore. It takes about 2 hours for us to get there. The party is a casual picnic... it's being catered. I'm assuming Dale will rent a tent because it's supposed to rain in the afternoon. The party starts at 2pm.As for your cat herd problem.... I wouldn't give up my life either. If you don't do something, the problem will not go away by itself and it will probably last for as long as you live there. Good luck.
