Downtown Cloudcroft

We are visiting Cloudcroft again. John is doing a service here tomorrow.  There was a delightful melodrama last night at a small open air theatre.  This morning we sat out in the back and enjoyed all the birds. Late this morning and early afternoon we went to the downtown festivities.  They had sidewalk sales and a Wild West Show from El Paso - not to far from here.  Here are some pics.

I am glad little Boo Boo is not from Ark or OK. Ha ha

The wild west show reminded me of the song "Down in the dah dah dah town of El Paso, there lived a beautiful Mexican Maid. and so on.

Carol said...

Great pics again Jan. Looks like loads of fun. Now which one of those guys in the first pic are you married to, the short one or the tall one?

Carol said...

I think that song was sung by The Brother's Four and many others.

Is it...down in the west Texas town of El Paso, I fell in love with a Mexican girl...." I really like that song.

Carol said...

Just looked it up and the song I am referring to was also sung by Marty Robbins

El Paso

Carol said...

Is that the same song you were thinking of?

Tonight I'm looking forward to the Judge Jeanne show. She gives her take on the week's activities in the DP trial. She will most likely get a kick out of the boo boo, not Honey, but the one the defense made this week. I'm even hoping, if some of the defense attorneys are on, that Judge Jeanne will use our favorite question..."what were you thinking"?

I told you they called a witness and got out, at the end of the trial, that his last wife asked an attorney she wanted to hire to divorce DP, if she could use the fact that she knew he killed Savio to get advantage in her divorce.

Like I said, it didn't work out well for her since she disappeared a couple of days later but those words might just help hang DP. Hope so. I think it actually might have been a gift from God.

I'm sure the def attorneys will try to spin it, they already have, but they just look foolish doing it. I wonder if DP pooped his pants when that came out. The prosecution wasn't even allowed to come near that info.

jan said...

My hubby is the taller one.

Carol, thanks for posting the link to "El Paso" or is it "Faleena?" some places I see it is one and other places it is the other.

I looked it up on Google and Cloudcroft is 108 miles from El Paso - so the song is most appropriate to this posting.

jan said...

Yes, that is the song I was singing in my head all day. It was originally sung by Marty Robbins. It is quite old. An oldie, but goodie. I remember hearing it by Marty when I was a little girl.

jan said...

Thanks for update on DP trial.

Carol said...

Tonight Judge Jeanne had on one of the best of the pathologists who testified, Dr Blum. He was good and he felt that Savio's death was definitely a homicide. She also had the lawyer who the defense accidentally got to testify that wife #4 said DP told her he killed Savio.

Judge Jeanne closed her show with her version of a closing argument for the prosecution. Vinnie, one of the anchors on In Session, also had suggestions. I sure hope the prosecution team watches these program,

I've even seen many good suggestions, from those who post on the In Session Facebook page, explaining a potential scenario to the murder. With all this social media and the crime shows discussing this case, the prosecution attorneys just need someone to monitor those sites and write down their suggestions.

The biggest problem is that many of the witnesses, by order from the court, had to be evasive. They were not allowed to tell everything they knew even to the point of having some of the content of their testimony sounding out of context. The jury, not knowing what all they knew and why they couldn't tell, could think that their testimony was suspect. The jury is definitely operating at a disadvantage. I pray they can read between the lines.

Last night I posted two comments on the previous post. I was on iPhone and I need a magnifying glass to see what I'm doing. Easy to make a mistake. I'm moving those comments here.

The first:

I just finished watching Jon stewart's editorial on some of what was presented at the RNC. It was great. It will probably be rerun on Monday, earlier in the day, before his new show that day.

I may not be a big Obama fan but he's so much better than his opponents. Some of my complaints with him is that he didn't fight them hard enough.

Second comment:

And I couldn't believe that senile Clint was actually blaming Obama for the Afghanastan war???? That old man should have been given his dementia meds and put to bed.

Jon Stewart has such a talented way of pointing out just how ridiculous and ironic it all is. Some will point out that he's just a member of the liberal media as a way to hold on to their delusions. But I have a difficult time understanding how any intelligent person can listen to that RNC BS and buy into it. It's just one of those mysteries that I will never understand.

If you have watched both shows, you will know that Jon and Stephen don't give either side a free pass. They are great at calling anyone on their BS. They are great at digging up the facts and showing all the hypocracy.

Coreen said...

Nice pics Jan...looks just like what one expects of a small western town....also reminds of a small town america from decades ago...

Coreen said...

What can I say Carol...you are predictable....& not surprising that you tend towards those that
support your point of view...would expect nothing else....

Stewart has an agenda...you happen to agree with his agenda...or using your choice of words...his BS...end of story...

as for fact checkers...there is not one media outlet that does not have an agenda...there is no such thing as an
independent arbiter today...& to think there is, well that would be delusional...

As for hypocrisy...its all around.,.not limited to one side...that is why the country will continue to be polarized...

Carol said...

It's just the facts Coreen backed by video and
audio. They don't play the same games your guys play...make it up and hope people don't check it out. I've also heard it seen it. What they say now and what they said before and how they have voted in the past is all out there. I'm not one of the sheep but I live in the middle of a herd of them so I'm familiar with them.

They don't take things out of context like your guys do and they point it out when someone else tries. They are also critical of both sides and call all of them when they try to pull a fast one. Recently even Fox has to tell it like it is.

And since you don't watch you really can't critique, can you??

jan said...

Yes, Coreen, it is definitely small town America. This small community does not have any fast food places or a supermarket. All businesses are locally owned and operated. It is a great place in summer because ac is not required. In the winter it gets cold. The 2 nights we were there (we are home now) were chilly - in the low 50's.

Carol said...

Tonight Lifetime is airing a movie made from a book that Joseph Hosey wrote called Drew Peterson, Untouchable. It's on at 8p my time. It only has one and a half stars but I'll watch it anyway.

Joseph Hosey is a native New Yorker and has been a reporter for the Chicago area's Herald News. His book is titled Fatal Vows: The Tragic Wives of Sergeant Drew Peterson.

Carol said...

Jan, how far is Cloudcroft from where you live?

Carol said...

Just read on the Facebook In Sessions page that many didn't like the DP movie. They said that Rob Lowe plays DP and he's just too likable.

Carol said...

Forget the movie. It doesn't follow the facts.

jan said...

Did not watch the movie. We did not have TV in Cloudcroft and keep forgetting to watch it now that we are home.

jan said...

Cloudcroft is 220 miles from our door to Cloudcroft. Much of that is 2 lane and 55 mph. John got a ticket once so he is good about speed limits now - ha ha ha. NM speed limit is 75 mph on 4 lanes so hard to do 55 now. It takes us 3.5 to 4 hrs.

jan said...

There is very little traffic on the 2 lanes however and we drive 100 miles or more with no gas stations. A couple of places they have portapotties. This is a rural state. You realize it when you go south toward Las Cruces.

jan said...

Glad to be home.

I think I did have some elevation sickness this trip. I had a pressure kind of HA that I could not kick even with my usual remedies. It is pretty much gone now. Elevation there was about 9000 where we were sleeping. Here in Alb it is 5200 ft. We had been much lower elevations for 2 1/2 weeks before.

I was also having cramping in my legs (calves).

jan said...

Also I woke up all during night both nights we were there and sometimes my heart would be beating pretty hard and fast. I did some biofeedback and got it back to normal.

Carol said...

Jan, you ought to ask your doc for a mild beta blocker, like atenolol, just to keep on hand. It's an old one and real cheap. It's safe, I take it. Doesn't really drop the Bp much but will slow down the heart rate pretty quick. Some people have even taken it when they had to give a speech and got nervous.

It would be nice to have on hand for those attacks of tachycardia. An attack of rapid heart rate is very uncomfortable. I could get one just knowing I didn't have some in my purse. I used to have to take it twice a day when I had hyperthyroidism but now, only once in a while.

It's scary when your heart rate goes up and then being scared just makes it worse. It's a vicious cycle.

Carol said...

I am still watching the DP movie and it got better. They are starting to fill in some of the details that I thought they were going to leave out. They just started with more of a focus on Stacy Peterson. I didn't know much about her because this trial focuses on his 3rd wife Kathleen Savio.

That DP is a monster and I might even relax my feelings against capital punishment for him.
I pray the jury makes the right decision. He just can't get away with killing two women.

Carol said...

Even though cute Rob Lowe is playing the part of DP, I've got a good hate going for his character right now. He's doing good job with the part.

If you can tape it, it comes back on at midnight, my time, on Lifetime.

Carol said...

Coreen, your boy Ryan couldn't even tell the truth about how fast he ran a marathon when he was much younger. Your guys have cornered the market on truthiness. Yes, it's now a word.

Definition from Merriam Webster

The quality of preferring concepts or facts one wishes to be true rather than concepts or facts known to be true.

Carol said...

I feel bad about putting down old Clint the other day. I guess we are all facing the day, if we live long enough, of talking to empty furniture. Maybe I already do but not on national TV and usually it's got Maggie in it. I don't think I've ever addressed any totally EMPTY furniture yet.

As I was surfing some of the news on iPhone before falling asleep, I read where the media is having some fun with poor old Clint. And evidently the RNC didn't get a chance to vet that little skit he did. It helps if you don't allow for surprises at such an important event.

I got a chuckle from Colbert the other night when he showed a big pic of Clint and his chair on the front page of the New York Daily News, the day after Romney's big speech. That's a Republican leaning paper. Romney's pic was a small one in the bottom corner of the page that Colbert referred to as the "Snookie Corner".

Carol said...

I just ran down my Buddy, Roemer. He's now the chairman of the Reform Project. Reformproject.org.

He was hooked up with Gary Johnson on CNN the other day. Gary is still running for pres as a Libertarian. He was once the gov of New Mexico. I'm sure you know him Jan. I know nothing about this Libertarian group. Buddy is now an Independent. That's what I now am.

I'll have to look into him. I'm looking for a good third party candidate. I don't know a thing about this guy yet.

Coreen said...

Already heard the latest...

team obama's shills wasted
no time to jump on what ryan foolishly said to some radio show...

Honestly Carol, do you really think that his remembering & saying a wrong running time is a big deal...

& if there is any side that cornered the market on truthiness...don't have to go far...

Has the media that you rely on
enlightened everyone with the untruthiness of oh say the fabrications in obama's book
& have they jumped on
the various fibs/lies
of biden...

just your favs...have they done any
breathless screaming
shows exposing the 'untruthiness' &
inconsistencies in obama's memoir, have they reminded their audience
of biden's youthful lapses in truth, like the plagirism at law school, as well as the many other lapses he has managed over the years...oh right he's just joe being joe...

again both sides lie, prevaricate, spin, whatever you want to use, yet if you are the darling of the media you get a pass...

None of these guys are mine really don't care, my life will not change one bit whoever wins...at this point I am just watching with interest how this is being spun...& so far it is predictable...

Coreen said...

As far as the Eastwood thing...your guy stewart's rant
was all over the internet (at least on lib sites) &
bill maher on his show talked about it as well...

while the lib media immediately jumped on eastwood, using the same senility charges you did...seems
that upon reflection, even Maher
who hated the substance of the comments...pointed out that what he did, was successful, purposeful & acheived its goal...nothing senile, old man losing it about it...maher made a point that it was in no way some wandering inane
skit, that eastwood got exactly the reaction he was looking for, the laughter & agreement, which maher was quick to point out was not easy...& he would know doing standup for years (his opinion, not mine)....

Again it is so obvious, the immediate lib reaction was laughable itself...starting with the baffoons at msnbc, who were bar none appalled that eastwood
dared to take on obama...& from there the same old sides were drawn...if you support obama...every denigrating description of eastwood made the news...

And no the NY Daily News is not republican...Mort Zuckerman its owner has stated he supported/voted for obama
& he was a dem at one point, not sure if he still is...he has criticized obama'a actions or lack of since the election...

Coreen said...

Was wondering when you would come upon buddy's endorsement of johnson...

not for nothing, but again just like buddy, gary johnson basically
adheres to republican principles, but jumped to the libertarian party after failing to get traction
in the repub party's race...

Coreen said...

Oh but pretty sure Johnson is the one who is for legalizing marijuana...which don't think is a basic repub principle...

and ron paul voters may tend to lean towards him as well...

This turned up on my facebook...
It does reflect lots of memories
of growing up in an italian family...

if you have about 15 minutes it does tell a pretty common story of those of us who came from this backgroound...

My mom is 1st generation american,
my grandmother came from Italy in the early 1900s...& I remember much of things as if it were yesterday...my grandfather made home-made wine & cut peaches (from
their peach tree) & dipped them in wine for me...

oh, pizelles...I still love them...one friend still makes them
herself...& forget about tomatoes
they are soooo basic to us italians...

& yes generations lived in the same family home...in my case my great grandmother owned the house we all grew up in...

this video brought back so many memories of growing up....italian...
Joys of growing up Italian

Carol said...

Watched your video Coreen. My grandma, on mom's side married an Italian. She wasn't Italian. Her parents came over from Czechoslovakia.

That video defines my visits with my grandparents. They lived up in Dearborn Mich. My grandfather was my step grandfather so I have no Italian heritage. Mom's dad died shortly after she was born. He was Polish so I'm a quarter Polock.

My step grandpa was her third husband and my grandma left mom and her two brothers to marry him when mom was around 11 and her brothers much younger. Left them with their dad and mom's stepfather. He tried to molest her so she went to her grandma's
to live. Because of that, I never liked him. Really wasn't that crazy about her. I held on to a resentment that mom should have had but didn't. It affected her and probably me more.

When we went up to visit, I was always amazed at the spread that my grandma had for meals. Even though I wasn't crazy about the two of them, I did like the food. It was like she was feeding an army, like I cook for a big party but it was just us. So many different dishes and yes, it included pasta and marinara sauce.

I could have been Italian in my last life. I love a good hardy bread, hate wimpy white bread. I love marinara and love olives. I eat 2 jars a week.

Grandma made lots of pastries also called kolaches. Not crazy about the baked fruit but like a cream cheese topping.

Carol said...

The kolaches were from her Czech heritage. There was more of my mom's mom and her grandparent's influence on her cooking that Louisiana influence. I had never eaten some of the traditional cajun food until I was past grad school.

Never had red beans and rice and that's a staple around these parts. I asked mom why we never had that and she said that when she was stuck out on the farm in that shack for several years while dad was trying to be a farmer, that's all they ate. She vowed to never eat it again. That was before Twin and I were born. Big sis was here then.

We never had crawfish in any way, shape or form. No étouffée, had never heard of it. We didn't even have any cajun friends.

Carol said...

Yesterday I was busy. My guys finished the ceiling on the kitchen/dining area at the camp yesterday. I still have the floors, want to redo the cabinets, and all the painting to do. I want it to get done so I can go back out there to stay. Maggie wants to also.

I went to lunch with TW and her sister who is visiting from Atlanta. Then I spent much of the rest of the day trying to figure out what happened at the DP trial. It was closing arguments. A very big day..high drama. It took the entire evening, until late, to pick out the important facts from all the other chatter.

Carol said...

DP has about 9 attorneys. I think they are all working pro bono. Go figure. The defense attorney who is famous for defending mobsters did DP's closing. He's called Joe the Shark. Those attorneys have been doing all the media circuit and yucking it up like this is a big joke..the death of two women is a big joke.

I told you that they made a big boo boo at the end of their case by introducing testimony that the pros couldn't get in about how Stacy, wife 4, told a divorce attorney that she knew how DP killed his 3rd wife. They tried to pretend it was part of their strategy. Hah. It was their karma.

This Joe the Shark was tweeting throughout the trial and then bragging about his closing and how fantastic it would be. IMO, what he did yesterday was kinda a big joke. More karma??

What worries me is that I am afraid that some of the jury might fear some of these characters. If he gets off, I'm sure that's what happened. I even wonder if some of the TV lawyers might not be intimidated by these thug attorneys. They will say they are impressed by what I think was total crap. It doesn't compute.

This morning the judge will read the jury their instructions and then they start their deliberations. They weren't sequestered for any of this trial but will be after today. Was that so some of the thugs could get to them??? We will know soon. This jury came from a jury pool selected at least 2 years ago. They were told not to follow this case. Does any of this sound kosher to you guys?

Carol said...

These true life situations are so much more interesting than any fiction anyone can write. But it is also almost harder to believe.

Carol said...

I didn't watch any of the DNC Coreen. Nope. I did catch a blurb of Michele speaking and will try to find some reruns later...maybe She does have charisma. I wish she was running for president. Tired of these brilliant women having to just support their men folk.

I have just developed this real aversion to politics. I really don't know why. I can take a little if it is wrapped in comedy. Probably because it finally sunk into my thick skull how hopeless it all is. Only a small portion of the population really pays attention but so many who vote only tune into sound bites. In this situation, I'm learning that maybe ignorance is bliss. My goal these days is..bliss.

Coreen said...

Can't say I watched any significant
portion of dnc...what I saw was
certainly geared to rev up the base & what I saw of Michelle Obama was very well done...not sure it changes anyone's opinion whatsoever...

I try to listen to both right & left wing radio & it is astounding both sides
are like talking from 2 different
planets, neither of the sides are based in reality, they each have talking points which they spit out over & over, & none of it addresses any of the problems, just blab, blab, blab...trust me the vast majority of people on the street care less than zero about all of the hoopla, ranting, talking heads etc...that is pretty clear every time I go to bkpt hearings...which I did again this a.m....

Coreen said...

Forget politics, my guys have managed to lose a 10 game lead since the all star break & there is no explanation yet how to get their act together...and after tonite's game with tampa they go to baltimore for a 4 game weekend...needless to say, around here there are no happy campers...

I liked Michelle's speech and look forward to seeing and hearing Elizabeth Warren and Bill Clinton speak.

Carol said...

Oh, is Liz speaking? I'll have to check her out.

Carol said...

I looked and found that both Elizabeth and Bill are both supposed to be on between 10-11p ET. She better go before him or she may not have any time left.

DP trial update:

The jury got their instructions and started deliberating. They called with several requests. They wanted to re-hear the testimony from the pastor, who said that Stacy, missing wife 4, told him that Drew wasn't in bed with her the night Kathleen was killed and he came in in the early morning hours and put his clothes, along with some other woman's clothes in the washer. He also spent 2 hours telling her what to tell the police when she was questioned. He sat in on that interview and has his arm around her.

They also wanted to hear the testimony of the divorce attorney who said that Stacy told him she knew how DP killed Kathy. She wanted to use that info to get custody of the kids and enough money in a divorce settlement to leave the state. Poor Stacy, how naive she was. She was very young, I think around 23.

The jury is not supposed to know that Stacy is missing and presumed dead. I don't know how they could have avoided knowing that since they lived in that community and DP wasn't even arrested for his previous wife's death until she disappeared.

They also wanted the autopsy photos and some phone records from DP and Stacy and a letter that Kathy wrote to the State Attorney about DP threatening her.

Wanting the autopsy pics and Kathy's letter is a good sign but phone records aren't good since they didn't show the calls where Stacy tried to find DP that night. She used that chirp/walkie talkie function and the record doesn't record those calls.

I hope what they are focusing on is good for the prosecution. It actually worries me that they don't already have a verdict. And as we all know, you can't ever predict what a jury is thinking.

Jan, Kathy was going to nursing school at the time she died. I think she was in her 40s. She had showed one of her nursing student buddies some bruises on her neck from when DP slipped in one day and held her by the neck. That friend tried to get her to bring her kids and stay with her but she didn't. It was as if Kathy knew that she was going to die and that no one could do anything to stop it. Law enforcement, who DP was a member of, never did anything to help her when she tried to get help and then the State police ruled her death an accident in less than an hour.

I'm not sure what women, who are the victims of DV, can learn from all this. Kathleen certainly tried to get help but with her husband being a high ranking cop in the community, she was sh-- out of luck!

Carol said...

The jury quit their deliberating already this evening and the judge sent them home for the night. No sequestration. I think they are short on money in that community. The way the defense was almost begging for them to go home for the night, I hope they don't plan on sending a black vehicle with darkened windows to circle their houses. I told you that at least one of the attorneys represents the mob. He did the closing. I don't think he likes to lose.

The judge told them to notify law enforcement if anyone tried to contact them. Yeah..sure. That would be the last people I would trust in that town. I would be just as scared if I saw a police vehicle circling my neighborhood.

Carol said...

Well, I hope at least someone is interested in this trial. If not, then I'm getting some good typing exercise. I also have to keep the brain exercising since I don't have much to challenge it anymore. Just humor me.

It's not easy to get the details I'm giving you. I have to dig them out of thousands of comments, rants and raves.

I told y'all that In Session on Tru TV has a Facebook page covering this trial. Iti s cluttered with tons of comments from other, like me, who are monitoring this trial. There are many women and less men who are following it. Scary thing is that some of those men say..free Drew or he is not guilty. If I was one of their women, I'd be running for the hills.

Carol said...

And sorry about your team Coreen.

Thanks for sharing all the info about the trial Carol.

Carol said...

Loved Elizabeth. Loved Bill.

Elizabeth got those Republicans down when she defined their vision as.."I've got mine, the rest of you are on your own" I have to give it to the Dems for finding that little gem and she is certainly a gem.

Sadly, most of those who support the Republican party can't afford to be on their own...only a very few can.

My biggest criticism of Obama is that I don't think he did enough but how could he fight..

lack of compromise
his opposition's goal to see him fail at all costs

No, health care reform didn't go far enough but it was a start. He did what he could to get in the front door. It needs lots of work but that will never happen without compromise and as Clinton pointed out..any Republican who was willing to compromise got voted out. They kept mostly just the crap.

Some Republicans who were reasonable and more willing to compromise dropped out, didn't try to get re-elected. Chuck Hagel is one who comes to mind. Always like him. I liked him the first time I heard him speak. He made sense. There are actually good Republicans or there were. They are trying to weed them out.

In order to be in that game in Washington, they all have to play dirty to some extent. I saw what happened to someone who had great ideas and insisted on playing it totally clean... my Buddy Roemer. See where it got him. Call him what you want Coreen, the label doesn't matter. He was a Democrat for 20 years, a Republican for 20 years and is now an Independent. The Republicans can't take any credit for him, they closed him out, he didn't tow their line.

And what floors me is the willingness of these Republicans to out and out lie to people. They don't even care if all these facts can be checked for accuracy, even how fast you ran a stupid marathon years ago. They figure that most of their base won't check the facts. They'll never get past the sound bites that their pundits and likes of Rush Limbaugh, Hannity, et al will say over and over until their robots can repeat them.

Carol said...

It's been just past 3 weeks since retirement. One thing that worried me about retiring is that I would have no structure. I'm not an organized person and I wonder if I can change that. I also had the need to feel like I was accomplishing something. And a need to have an excuse to not accomplish things I didn't want to do.

I'm almost 62 and there should be a time in life where you can justify being a goof off. Am I correct?? Right now I can say that I'm making up for all that vacation I never got. I can use that excuse for about 6 months and should be able to get by with it.

I worried a little about boredom but I found, in the very few times when I was between jobs, that you can find plenty to keep you busy. Right now I do have more to do than I want to do.

Carol said...

I did go to factcheck.org to check out Clinton's speech. Just want to be fair.

They said..." Former President Bill Clinton’s stem-winding nomination speech was a fact-checker’s nightmare: lots of effort required to run down his many statistics and factual claims, producing little for us to write about.

Republicans will find plenty of Clinton’s scorching opinions objectionable. But with few exceptions, we found his stats checked out."

They said he did have a tendency to exaggerate. You can read the article:

http://factcheck.org/2012/09/our-clinton-nightmare/

Coreen said...

That Bill Clinton is masterful when he gives a speech is a given...

what he did just shines the light on the abject failure of Obama and his crew to support their own agenda...whether one agrees with what Bill Clinton said to support obama or not...he is brilliant at
presenting it...

And since you want to bring up the fact checkers again...go check NYT
and its mild rebuke of the dem
'exaggerations' vs. what they had previously called rep 'lies'...its the use of the descriptive analysis that is
shameful & disengenous...they push their preference repeatedly under the guise that they are independent analysts...just not convincing when you actually fact=check them...

Carol your Buddy called himself a repub, and was trying to run in the repub primary...that would be an accurate fact check...

Coreen said...

Here's the NYT article about the dems 'stretching the truth'...

last week similar 'truth streching' by repubs was universally labeled outright lies by just about every major media source...in reality they all are equal in their hype, you mentioned again ryan's mistaken running time...why
do you find his error so much more offensive than those commited by the side you agree with?...asked you when you said it the other day...do you think that biden's gaffes are
innocent, did you think his plagiarism years ago was ok when it was finally exposed...would think that that 'lie' would be much more significant than stating a wrong running time, or don't you think so?...

there are as many 'mistakes, half truths, untruths' on each side, if you want to take the time to check them all out...needless to say, its not worth the effort,
the double standard in the MSM is going strong this election season..

a startling truth among the hyperbole

Carol said...

Yes, Buddy called himself a Repub because he has fiscally conservative ideas but unfortunately his party didn't. They have..all for us, screw the rest of you..ideas. He didn't buy into that philosophy. Also, you must remember that he was in a very Republican state.

Clinton has the advantage that he was very popular. He left a surplus. He won in very conservative states. When he talks..people listen.

I had to come to terms with the fact that there was no way anyone could fix the extreme mess that GWB and his party left. Some are trying to make people believe that Obama made that mess. Some people who are either ignorant or in denial believe that.

It was impossible to not notice the diversity in the audience at the DNC last night. Compare this with the audience at the RNC where I had difficulty finding anyone who was not white - except Condaleeza Rice. She was one of the few token people of diversity or color. And I do like Condy Rice.

Joe Biden's so called "gaffes" are not downright lies as are Ryans. Yes, and who does not plagiarize in politics today. Give me an effin break!

Coreen said...

Carol are those 'some trying to make people believe obama made the mess' or are those some saying that he inherited it & what he has done or attempted to do, has not done the job...

and who are the 'ignorant' people that you keep mentioning...

and while I believe that bush left a disaster, I also think that there were democrats that contributed to the financial meltdown...I hold both
sides responsible...& since obama
wanted the job of getting it straightened out, he needs to bear
responsibility for the measures he has or in fact has not taken to address the problems...

my pet peeve continues he was not a leader then & he has not shown leadership to date...

that he ignored the state of the economy & allowed dems (Nancy & Harry, et al) to push through a defective health care reform plan that fails to address the basic pleas of most americans...that would be the cost keeps going up unchecked....is so indicative of
his inability to lead...he simply does not deserve more time...that was a monumental failure...

Carol, for many of us, I think it is hard to stop working "cold turkey." I love having some work to do that is meaningful but I don't have to show up every day. It is nice to be able to pick when I want to work. I hope you find what works for you in terms of leisure time and meaningful ways to spend your life. And that is it - to me every day is my "life" and I want to make each day count. I am trying very hard to just live for each day. We never know how much "time" we have left, so my goal is to make THIS time that I have, count; and whether it is work (at work) or spending time with people I like or love or doing something creative of fun, or just making a bed or fixing a meal or whatever - I want it to be something I want to do.

jan said...

I agree with Clinton "Obama had a huge job to do and 4 years has not been enough time to do all that he said he would do - and in the last 2 years the Republicans one commitment has been to put up roadblocks to everything Obama has tried to do with the economy and jobs." And he did get a health care bill passed - something that no president before has been able to do. Sure, it has some problems, but those can be worked on, in time.

Coreen said...

No Jan, not about to give you an effin break!!...no effin way!!!..( to use your language)

Make excuses for biden...oh everyone plagiarizes in politics (though the plagiarism biden was accused of involved law school, not politics)& ryan's a blatant liar...give me a break...you have so eloquently made the case for the selectivity of viewing those you agree with in a favorable light & slamming those you don't like or disagree with when it involves similar 'gaffes'....end of story...

jan said...

I do not agree with Ryan. I think he was a poor choice for Romney to make. I do think there is something wrong when Romney will not publish his tax returns. Other than that, I have no slamming to do of Romney. I don't care that he is rich, but he gives the impression that he is hiding something by not providing his tax returns. I also do not like the fact that Romney put his dog in a cage on top of his car. I am a lover of dogs and that was inexcusable.

I make no secret of my disdain for Ryan. He is not a friend of women. I very much dislike his stand on women's issues who have been raped (from his past).

Those are my main reasons for not liking either of these men. The Repubs are for making the rich richer. They make no secret of that. I think the tax issues are a problem. I resent having to pay a higher tax rate than the very rich. That is all I am going to say.

Carol said...

When I say ignorant Coreen, I don't mean they are stupid or lack intelligence. I mean lacking knowledge, information, or awareness about something in particular.

I would bet that at least half, more likely much more than that, of the American people are ignorant about politics. They just don't have the desire nor the time to keep up with it. They may go with the party of their family or neighbors and friends. They depend on sound bites from others who they might trust, often others who don't deserve to be trusted or know what they are talking about.

There is something in a strategy to keep people busting it to find work just to keep their heads above water. It keeps them from having time to become informed or to question any of these jerks who are responsible. They just want someone to hate and those Repubs serve them up someone. Those desperate people don't have time for fact checking, they are too busy just keeping their asses above the gators.

And these greedy Repubs and some Dems aren't considering the long term consequences of their vision of.."I got mine, the rest of you are on your own." People who are desperate will do desperate things like stealing or killings for what they need. The jails and prisons are busting at the seams and people just don't realize how much it cost to house ONE inmate. It can be anywhere from 30+thou to 60+ thou. Government assistance, with structure, is much cheaper. The cost to house one inmate equals to what it costs to support a middle class family.

I just don't see too many in politics looking ahead past the next step they take. They don't look at long term consequences.

And the people who think everything they have is what they did for themselves??? I'm sorry but we were not all created equal. That's BS. Some people were born in a nice middle class family or better and some were born in the ghetto with no father and a mom who is a druggie or prostitute. I don't call that equal. They don't have a mom who brainwashed them to be a nurse or a dad that expected that college is just part of a normal education.

I had those advantages but I worked my way thru college, paid for all of it myself except the first semester. I paid for that semester with money I got for graduation. We had some nice friends.

My dad had cancer and was dying and mom was working in a low paid government job selling license plates. My dad was out of work sick for 8 years and then died in my junior year of college. Mom couldn't afford to put me thru college. She did get a little SS check for my father. They had no health insurance while dad was sick so they had debt.

I worked hard, got lots of education, usually had more than one job but I had advantages than many people didn't have. I worked much harder than many who think they totally made it on their own.

Hey, did you work your way thru college and law school Coreen or did you have some generous relatives who helped? What did you do to earn them? You were just effing lucky.

Coreen said...

No Carol, I wasn't effin lucky, (your language)... myself, my family worked their asses off to have what we have accomplished...

No one started my family's business
where I worked from the time I was old enough to drive a car, through college, law school & thereafter...& yes we all did very well...we were very successful...& along the way made others successful as well...

I am certainly not ashamed of that fact...I have no reason to be...I don't owe anyone for the success that has come as a result of what we worked at for many years...

AGAIN NO ONE GAVE IT TO ANY OF MY FAMILY...WE ALL WORKED OUR ASSES OFF...and I damn well resent anyone
saying otherwise...

For some reason, you have a problem with grasping that some of us actually do accomplish things on our own, we didn't cheat, steal take from anyone & along the way we have and continue to pay more than our fair share to support all those programs that you mention as costing $$$...

That life is not fair is simply a fact...no fact checking needed...

I have no idea what issues you have with your family, how you were brought up, whether life has been fair to you or not, if you are angry with the path you took to where you are...those are your issues to resolve... but don't ever make a blanket statement about me or mine, since you don't have an effin clue...

Carol said...

I do appreciate my family and what they provided me with and that I was brought up not to feel..."I got mine, you're on your own."

Carol said...

We were probably lower middle class in income but we got by and I never ever felt deprived. Since daddy was sick for a good bit of my younger years, mom worked to provide the bacon and we actually did eat bacon. LOL. Only my dad had a college education but both my parents were intelligent and believed in us getting a higher education.

My nursing career provided me with lots of opportunities to see and work with people who were so much less fortunate than I was. It really made me feel blessed. I guess our life experiences, and everyone has different life experiences, helps us develop our values.

Carol said...

I worked in a drug store for my first two years of college..making a dollar an hour. Seems like I remember that minimum wage was a buck and a quarter and they did end up having to cough up that extra 25 cents. It wasn't long before I had $1000 in my savings. I was proud of that and it was thanks to my mom. First of all, she didn't charge me rent to live at home and she taught me, by example, of how to make a penny scream.

When I got past my sophomore year I could work as a student nurse/nurse's aide at the hospital. I could make on a weekend what it took me all week to make at the drug store. That gave me more time to study with Jan and our study group. My life has been good. I chose career options in nursing that didn't pay well but that was my choosing. I could have picked careers in nursing that made more money. My NP career paid much more and it's a dang good thing I put a good bit of that away, except what the crash of the economy and an effing banker robbed from me. I do blame that on you Republicans. Yep, I do. I just bet that financial adviser was a Republican.

Carol said...

IMO, It's not fair to take credit for what our family accomplished or provided us with. That just counts as
our blessings or good fortune. I thank God for mine.

Carol said...

Jan, I'm still giddy over the DP verdict. I couldnt keep up with the verdict watch because I was out trying to pick out flooring and a new counter top for the camp. I need to go get some paint tomorrow. I'll be doing the painting myself since I'm a little salary poor now. I've done a lot of that in the past. I know how.

TW's sister helped me. It helps me to have someone else's opinion. I'm trying to stretch the puny insurance money I got for the damage.

I haven't seen Obamas speech yet but I plan to. Not that I think he's the perfect choice but when looking at the alternative, he's way up there. I'd pick Clinton or Elizabeth over him if I has those options. Maybe even his wife.

Carol said...

Wouldn't it be cool to have Hillary and Michelle as our next ticket.

Carol said...

And a little something else that I can't figure, makes no sense to me. I really want things to be logical. I want stuff to make sense. I have that little hang up.

Here's some things that don't make sense:

How come the Republicans claim to be the party of Jesus, the party of religion but nothing really reflects that in this... I got mine, you're on your own, attitude? Most religions believe in helping the poor and sharing. That's what I learned in church. Is that what everyone else learned? The Jesus I was introduced to in church, something mom and dad insisted we do, wasn't real tolerant of rich greedy people and he was a pretty tolerant guy. And interesting that the Dems reflect more of an attitude of sharing and tolerance yet they really try to keep "religion" out of it. Makes no sense.

It was pointed out by some of those parrots on the right that the Dems took the word "God" out of their platform. I didn't know that. I guess the Republicans like to throw her name around alot. But it's not the name that's important. It's the actions that are.

Then something else. The Republican effort to prevent any kind of birth control and family planning by refusing to fund it and now almost wanting to not even allow it. People with money will get what they need so that leaves poor people having all these kids they can't afford. Can't they see that that contributes to all those needy people they don't want to pay more taxes to support? Can't your people add two and two??

Since none of that makes any real sense, doesn't add up... I have to look at what might be behind it all. It seems pretty clear to me. That birth control and pretending to favor religion is all smoke and mirrors. They use religion as a RUSE. And some people fall for it and fooling some of the people, some of the time, is usually good enough. Huh?

Carol said...

And no Coreen, I'm not dumb enough to think that it's just your Republicans that are greedy and corrupt. I know it's on both sides of the aisle. Oh yeah. And there's a few good guys on both side also. But I do think that your side is a little heavier with that crap than our side is.

jan said...

We are getting a very nice rain tonight. Our temperatures are predicted to be in 80's for next week. I think fall is around the corner. Hip hip hooray!

jan said...

Carol, what is it like anticipating and having weekends now that you are retired?

jan said...

I guess I meant to ask - Do you still get excited on Fridays? I work only part time, but I really look forward to weekends.

jan said...

What are plans for weekend for you guys? We are just relaxing at home, doing some laundry and reading. Maybe see a move. Heard of anything good?

Carol said...

Jan, like my friend Linda used to say...every day is Saturday. I like that. But then I can do lots of work on Saturday and Sunday and don't feel like I've wasted my only days off.

I worked out at the camp today. I spent half the day cleaning up after the guys who put in the ceiling. Then I did some sheet rock patching. When they pulled the old ceiling down they ripped up some of the top area of the walls. There was a little crater up there down past where they put up the trim. I filled that in with sheet rock mud and sanded it.

I went grocery shopping and didn't get to starting the painting of the ceiling until around 4p so I didn't get much done. I'll continue to work on that all weekend.

Still pondering what I'm going to do with the cabinets. I want to try to have what I already have patched. Don't see any prefab that would work out and they would be more than my budget would allow.

I used some river rats to do the ceiling and think they charged too much for the job. If they were licensed, bonded and insured it might have been reasonable for not for guys in the hood. Not sure what I will do for the rest of the work.

I'm ordering a counter top already done and this guy from Lowes is supposed to call to make an appointment to come measure. I'll ask him if he knows someone who can do the work. There are about 3 boards on the front of the lower cabinets that need to be replaced. Not sure how hard that would be to do.

The guys tore apart the wall cabinets to get to the ceiling so they will have to be rebuilt. I still have the doors but that's all I have left. I really don't like these construction projects but I hope I'll like the final results.

I'm ready to be able to go back to stay at the camp again. Hope I can have it finished before fall fishing weather gets here.

Carol said...

You would have gotten a kick out of Jon Stewart's show either last night or the day before when they were covering the DNC. He gives it to both sides Coreen. He did a thing about Obama..and it coulda been worse..review of his last 3+ years. Not sure if I got that exactly right but it was something to that affect.

You can't say that I've been Obama's biggest fan.

jan said...

I too watched 2 of Jon Stewart's shows last night covering the conventions. Very funny!

jan said...

Carol, If you have a wall where you have lost cabinets, you might consider just putting in shelving. I have dreamed of a kitchen without all the store- bought cabinets and with a wall of floor to ceiling shelving inside and covered with folding doors.

Carol said...

Jan, it's 10:13 and I've mowed my big challenging yard, had to unchain all my equipment first. I then planted some lettuce for fall and winter. I then vacuumed my pool, first time in weeks but it wasn't that dirty. Now I'm taking a little break.

I'll clean up a little and go out to the camp to paint. Too sweaty to even paint like this. It's got AC out there and I crank it up when I'm there.

I'm working on prine coating the ceiling right now. The ceiling is not as high as a regular ceiling and I found out that was because it used to be a porch. It's good that it isn't too high because that makes painting it soooo much easier and less painful.

Carol said...

I don't know Jan, that's a thought that I will ponder. But I'm such a CF, you know..cluster f.... I really do need somewhere to hide all that I have accumulated.

If I can't find someone to do it for the right price, I may just do that. I think I could do that myself. I'll get some cute things to hold all my spices.

Carol said...

Jan, the more I ponder your idea, the more I like it. I had so much stuff out there because I had to clean out my house for roomie. I didn't need all that stuff out there and I will either bring some of it back or throw it out.

Carol said...

Just saw on HLN where a deer fell into someone's swimming pool. I've worried about cats, dogs and even a stray cow before but I've never though about a deer. We do have them around these part. I do still have a few leaks in my fence since Rita.

jan said...

Carol, If you have canned goods and food stuff that you can't use and it is still good, might consider giving it to a food bank.

jan said...

In kitchens I have seen in magazines and on TV that the home owner is a chef, they often have that kind of kitchen. When you think of it, all those individual cabinets are quite wasteful in terms of time and wood. If I were designing a kitchen, I would design it for good use of space and light and come up with a new kitchen paradigm.

jan said...

What I mean by waste of time. Think of all the time you spend opening and closing cabinet doors when you cook.

Carol said...

Jan. you have inspired me. I'm at Walmart. They have all kinds of stuff to organize shelves. I've even decided to try to wood glue those few part of my lower cabinets. I'm gonna make them a little antique looking.

jan said...

Sounds great Carol. I am glad you have all that energy. I am just trying to get up the energy to go to the grocery store.

jan said...

It is good you are enjoying retirement.

Carol said...

I'm exhausted! I'm borrowing that energy from somewhere because I really don't have any.

I didn't have a physical job so I didn't get a lot of exercise when I worked except with my weekend chores.

I didn't get home until about 5:30 and then cooked some supper. Now I'm vegging out in front of the TV. It's supposed to get down into the low 60s tonight. That should perk me up just a tad.

That painting is slow and tough on my arms and neck. For my ceiling the guys put up a wood ceiling that looks paneled. They put up lattice strips over the seams. My neighbor next door did that and I liked the way it looked but it's hard to paint. First I had to paint all the strips and now I'm painting the areas between the strips.

I have a hard time holding my arms over my head for very long. Always have, even when I was young. I did have an extension for my roller so I'm using it. I can hold my arms down when I use it. I can tell that I'm not a youngster anymore.

Carol said...

Jan, those upper cabinets is where I kept my dishes and my spices/seasonings. I had lots of those. I also had my casserole dishes up there. My can goods are in the bottom cabinets and that's where I have all my pots and pans. Many of my assorted electric cooking appliances were also down there. Remember, I have just about one of everything they make. When I had to take everything out of those cabinets, I found things I didn't even remember I had, ie waffle maker. Now, how often is one going to use that?. I buy the frozen waffles now. Can't beat them by making then yourself. I was just a kitchen appliance addict. Buried alive..with appliances. I now try to stay out of kitchen stores.

jan said...

You love kitchen appliance stores like I like fabric/quilt stores. I cleaned out my kitchen cabinets recently and got rid of a waffle maker. I need to do it again. Even though I have an oven and stove top I have too many small kitchen appliances too. I gave away a crock pot to a grand son and then a week later found a recipe for a slow cooker and went out and bought another one.

jan said...

I no longer can do anything where I have to keep my hands over my head, especially with my right shoulder. I guess that uses muscles that have gone to pot.

jan said...

I went into the station that has those Honey Boo Boo shows and watched some of them. They are hilarious. John said "I hope they are not in Arkansas."

jan said...

We went over to Bill and Kathy's for dinner. We watched the Arkansas and UL Monroe game. I thought John was going to have a stroke. I hope the Arkansas player who was hurt will be ok. They had him all bound up tight on a stretcher when they took him off.

jan said...

Found out something interesting tonight to show again what a small world it is. Did you know that the Arkansas coach (Bobby Petrino) this year was fired for inappropriate behavior with a woman he had hired? Well, I found out that he is from Montana (where Bill's wife (DIL) is from and played football for Montana with Kathy's brother in law quite a few years ago. Kathy's brother in law is about 45-50. Not sure of exact age.

jan said...

Glad your temp is lower tonight.

Off to bed to read some more about dreams.

jan said...

Carol, your wood ceiling sounds pretty. Why are you painting it?

Carol said...

Jan, that reality show does scare me. We are laughing at this child because it is kind of pathetic. It is funny but it makes me feel somewhat sad to laugh at it or at least feel a tad guilty. You, John and me didn't want to think she lived in our home states, that she was representative of our residents. I Googled it to make sure the family wasn't from La.

Not just this but look all the other reality shows and videos that entertain us. I'm sorry to say that I LMAO at those videos of dumb people doing dumb tricks where they almost break their neck falling. I'm sure there are young people who dream up those dumb dangerous tricks to get on TV. I wonder how many sustained serious injuries?

I like to watch all this crime drama. I was pondering about what that might mean about me. Do I have some evil deep inside?? I don't think so. I can't even kill snakes unless I know they are poisonous.

Well, I do hope that Honey Boo Boo's family is getting rich but I don't think those reality show programs pay them much. They might make money on promotions. I wonder if kids would want a Honey Boo Boo doll to play with? Would Subway or McDonalds want to have them eating one of their sandwichs?? Kinda doubt it. They will need that money to buy health insurance because it's likely that most will be in a high risk group. I've heard criticism that they feed that child these high power energy drinks to keep her acting out. Maybe they're paid to promote that? Nah, no parent wants their kids acting like that at home.

Something my friends and I have always complained about before, is that when the national news comes to La, for a hurricane or something, they seem to find the one guy or woman who has only one tooth and can't speak where anyone can understand them. Dey do seem ta do dat. My friends and I are concerned that that is what people think we are all like down here in La.

jan said...

Carol, I agree on all above. The family of Honey BB are all obese. The mother weighs over 300 lbs and each of the 3 older girls are are obese. They entertain themselves by taking 4 wheelers to mud pits and ride in extremely dangerous ways. The show I watched the other night the family rode 4 wheelers to do dumpster diving for anything they could use. It was very sad. Usually you see the family eating hi calorie, hi salt foods and never see them eating fruit or vegs. The family went out to eat barbeque and they all over eat and eat a lot of meat. There is nothing healthy about this family. The 18 y/o girl is pregnant, lives at home and nothing is said about who the father is. There was one episode where all the women were weighing themselves and one of the teen girls was wanting to lose weight. I don't think there is any knowledge level of this family in terms of nutrition of any kind.

jan said...

My hope is that somehow someone with nutritional knowledge will come on the show and do some teaching and role modeling. The mother is the worst kind of role model. The father chews tobacco and is always spitting in some kind of container. The teen girls, with some kind of exposure, might be open to some healthier lifestyles. The little girl HBB - is cute and candid. She has a chance if someone takes an interest in the children. The mother and father are not bad people, just terribly ignorant.

jan said...

Geesh, my grammar is terrible in above. Oh well.

jan said...

When I watched several of these shows, there were several episodes, one after the other. I was fascinated. I did not laugh except at some of HBB's little antics. It is very sad indeed.

jan said...

Sitting out on the front porch this morning, I was cold. Had to come inside.

Carol said...

It was real nice here Jan. I took advantage of the cooler weather to do some weed whacking and pulling weeds. I'm soooo glad that the robbers left my weed whacker and I found it before they returned to pick it up. It's got high wheels so it's not too bad to use but it still kicks my a-- just dragging it around my large yard.

I didn't want to put it back in the shop and chain it all back together so now it's in my kitchen. Huh, I won't leave anything that someone can carry off when I leave the house for a couple of hours. I even lock up my shop and the front door while I'm working in the back yard. That's sad. I used to be able to leave stuff out in the yard if the weather was good and I would be using it the next day.

Carol said...

I just got out of the shower because I want to go to Sam's for bird seed and to a garden store for some more herbs. All my plants did well while we had the drought but when we had those weeks of monsoons, I lost just about everything. I can control how much I water but can't control what nature gives those plants.

I'm really already pooped. My morning work pretty much spent me but I have miles to go before I sleep. After doing Sams and the plant place, I'll head back to paint.

Carol said...

I finally made it to the camp and I'm not sure I have the energy to do anything else. Maybe if I rest up some. I had been missing the Saint's game. Good thing. Drew shoulda been practicing instead of holding for more money.

Well, finally I see a little something that looks like my Saints

Carol said...

RG 3 is quite impressive. He's also a good man from what I've seen and read.

Carol said...

Well, I'm finally sitting still on my couch. How did I ever find time for a job?

I did get 6 of those ceiling panels painted. Have 6 more left. Yesterday I only did 3 and I don't think I worked as hard before I started painting yesterday. That ceiling is a bitch. I'm just on the primer coat and still have to do the main coat. I do stop frequently to do something different to rest my arms. I think I'll do my painting first tomorrow before I'm pooped.

Some critter out at the camp keeps tearing up my bird feeders. I had to find an old wooden one I had here and patch it up so I would have something to put birdseed in. I went to Sam's and bought 80 pounds of bird seed. They have good bird seed at Sam's and the same quality at WM is twice as expensive.

I put up my fixer upper bird feeder and the birds just looked at it. They are suspicious. Birds don't like change either.

jan said...

You deserve a rest Carol. I get tired just reading all you are doing. Take it easy. I try to do my most challenging projects (physical) in the morning. I begin to wear down as the day progresses.

Carol said...

Jan, I wake up feeling worn down. You remember that fall is also a time when I usually get depressed. I get to feeling funky. I think of it as funky fall. I have tried to ponder why for years and can't settle on a particular cause. I certainly like the cooler weather better. I love the fall colors.

I've pondered if it is because my father died in the fall. We weren't particularly close and that was sooo many years ago. I've pondered if it is because it's getting close to the holiday season and holidays always remind us of how things aren't as fun as they were when we were carefree kids.

Maybe it's not that deep seeded. Another ponder is that I seem to have lots of fall allergies. I used to get sick every year around this time with upper respiratory problems. I do think I am allergic to something blooming this time of year. I don't really get sick anymore but allergies can cause a funk.

Carol said...

It's 63 outside, whoopee. I can't remember it being this nice in Sept. I'm gonna soak it up.

Carol said...

Friday is my cataract surgery. I'm nervous about it. TW reminded me the other day. She's taking me.

Jan, did they put you to sleep? They better do something because I don't want to see anyone coming at my eyeball. It seems they said the surgery only takes 5 minutes.

I think they do give you something like Versid. With that drug, even if you did see something, you won't remember it afterwards. It has that amnesic effect.

Coreen said...

Give you lots of credit for painting, especially ceilings Carol...

Sounds like the weather is cooperating though...

Seems like that canadian cool air finally decided to blow down this way...it has turned into some really great days...fresh air, no humidity....hope the humid summer
has been swept out for this year...

I know several people who had cataract surgery...they all seemed to say it was painless, but could not drive themselves back & forth...Pretty sure those that had it only had one eye down at a time,
usually the other about 2 weeks later...& the recovery time for clear seeing was pretty short...they all said it was a vast improvement for their vision...their biggest complaint was about the starburst night driving vision that sometimes is corrected (or at least lessened)over time after the cataract surgery...

jan said...

I have had cataract surgery on my right eye. It went very well. I have been through it with John (both eyes) and my sister (one eye). All went very well.

I did have an anxiety attack when they put the cloth over my face. My heart rate went up and I felt the anxiety attack. I did have the oxygen things in my nose. I think they gave me a little something through the IV to relieve my anxiety - I don't remember anything about the surgery.

If you are anxious about it Carol, you might tell the doc about that.

jan said...

Carol, I think allergies can cause some depression.

Thanks guys for the support. I'm down to 2 panels left in the kitchen. My neck and upper back muscles are burning. I take frequent breaks to watch the birds and river. The birds found the new/repaired old feeder.

Still only 76 with 57 percent humidity. I did have to change from warmups to t-shirt and flip flops.

This weather today was inspiring. Fantastic. I had my ceiling primed by about 11:00 and then did some sheet rock repair and priming in the bathroom.

After that Mag and I came home and I did a little planting. I planted two window box type containers with lettuce. I got another bell pepper yesterday and planted it and a few of the herbs that died.

I stayed pretty busy most of the day.

Jan, allergies cause lots of other problems, more than what you would just expect with allergies. I think that indigestion/gastritis is more of a problem when people are experiencing allergy problems. Have you ever noticed that. Just think of all the problems that have a higher incident in the spring and fall when allergies are more common.

Jan, the eye doc wanted to do the left eye also, a couple of weeks later, but I'm not ready for that. He said that after I get my right one done, I'll want to other one also. They measured both for those lens implants. When they checked my acuity it was 20/40 in my left eye and the right as 20/400.

My sister's doc did hers 2 weeks apart. She was very happy with the results. I had my right done 2-3 yrs ago. The left one is now 20/40 and my doc says medicare won't cover it - has to be worse. When I am using "readers" I buy at walgreens - I can really tell a difference between the 2 eyes when I close one eye and then the other.

I have allergies and eczema - worse in winter. It could have something to do with dryness here.
