Cloudcroft

I see we are getting close to 200 with the last post.  I will put up some pictures I took in Cloudcroft.  Most are of the house where we stayed.  It is owned by a very kind member of the church there.  The house is 100 years old and is very rustic.  Most of the walls in the house are paneled with knotty pine.  We enjoyed our stay there so much.  Our host lives next door saves the house for priests who come to provide services or good friends of his partner and himself.  All the windows have coverings that are made like quilts which is great for insullation. It is a large house with 4 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms. There is no ac nor central heat.  Most rooms have stoves with pellets for fuel. There is a lovely little patio in the back of the house (2 pics).  One of the pics I am sharing is going down the mountain when we were leaving Cloudcroft - the pic is of the horizon - and the thin white strip is actually of the white sands on the horizon.  I thought that was amazing.  I will take some pictures of NC and post later.

Ok, this is my contribution for the day. We are in classes all day and into the late evening and do not have wifi in our rooms so have to come to the lodge before bed to see e-mail.

jan said...

Carol, thanks for posts about the trial. We also don't have TV.

Back tomorrow evening.

Carol said...

Thank you Jan for putting up the new posts and love the pics. That was a neat place where you stayed. What are the temps there during the day? Is it hot? I like those little pellet heaters. I bet they really heat up a room.

Carol said...

I've thought about getting a pellet heater for the big room at the camp but the smoke would kill my moss hanging from the trees. It's sensitive to smoke. I love my Spanish moss.

Not much happened in the trial today. The prosecution is close to resting their side, at least until their rebuttal. Now it's Howdy Doody time. I say that because the defense attorneys are such clowns. They really are disgusting.

They did have a cell phone tech on today to testify that Stacy, wife 4, could have tried to call Drew without having the calls registered on the phone records. She had told people that the night Drew disappeared for several hours, the time when Savio was killed, she tried multiple times to call him. The defense was sure to point out that there were no calls on their cell phone record. The tech said they had a service where they could chirp each other, a kind of walkie talkie feature, and it didn't register as a call on the record. The prosecution is trying their best to cover all the bases before the defense gets their turn.

No one can figure what the jurors are thinking. They spend more time out of court than in. They get to hear from about one witness a day. They don't know most of the facts. The judge has seen to that. The judge did not allow any testimony about Stacy being missing and presumed dead. I really can't believe that these jurors could have lived in that area and not known that detail. It wasn't until Stacy turned up missing that they actually investigated his previous wife's death. The did NO investigating when it happened.

The jury pool was actually chosen years ago and told to avoid news about this case. Do you think they did? Drew was constantly on TV making fun of his last wife's disappearance.

Every day the jury wears the same color clothes. It's weird. Today though, they wore black and white alternating from one juror to the next. Don't know what to think about that. One of the defense attorneys and his wife, who evidently attends the trials, both wear the same color. He mentioned that they were copying the colors they were wearing. Don't know if that is true.

This trial is not televised so we have to depend on people just reporting what is going on. They post transcripts of the testimony on In Session.

This big restaurateur, Ruby, who owns this steak house in Chicago, put a big ad in the paper berating the defense attorneys for their flippant attitude when 2 women have been murdered, allegedly. He's a big victim's advocate. He was in court yesterday and Drew turned around and gave him the evil eye. Ruby mouthed FY to him, not out loud. The judge threw the guy out of court and banned him from returning. I think this happened during a break.

The judge allows Drew to turn around and eyeball the gallery during the breaks but the gallery is not allowed to make eye contact with him. He even said..hi blondie, to one of the pretty female attendees. I'm telling you this is better than any soap opera. You can't make up this stuff.

The jail reported that Drew used to get tons of mail from women. They only allowed him to have 9 letters a day. What is wrong with those women?? He likely killed two of his wives and there are more women who want some of that??? We live in a crazy mixed up world.

Yesss, after sleeping on it...I've decided it is a crazy world. I got to see much of the evidence of THAT in my last job. There was a concentration of it in that place. It was the warehouse for.."what were you thinking?" If I had a nickel for every time that thought went thru my head, I'd have a really good retirement. And it wasn't just on one side of the bars people. It was both sides and I was guilty of it too. The biggest evidence of that was when I started that job on April Fool's Day. It was a Friday and I spent the entire weekend almost crying about what I saw and I still jumped right in there to take on that challenge. I was even warned ahead of time of what I would be up against. The only problem is that the same person who told me that also said...if anyone can tackle that place, you can Carol. Damn they hit my weak spot..my ego. Many people including my sisters, used that trick on me sooo many times. If they wanted me to do something that no one else in their right mind would want to do they would say... Carol, we know you can do it. It just took me 61 years to catch on to that trick. I told you that I was a slow learner.

I thought that there needs to be a smart phone app called...Do you really want to do that? Everyone needs to have that app. Before the DUI people take that next drink and get behind the wheel of their vehicles, they need to activate that app. Before those intelligent people download kiddy porn on their computers, they need to activate that app. I could go on but I think you get my drift.

Carol said...

I do think of life as a big school and sooo many of us sign up for these tough classes knowing full well that they will be tough. I agree with Chloe that we have "free will" but we still do it. We often set ourselves up for the challenges we will have to face.

Carol said...

And it turned out that I was in fairly good hands with Allstate unless they drop my ass for having a run of bad luck. They are paying to replace my lawnmower minus the 1000 buck deductible. I didn't want a new lawnmower but this one is a lot faster and has a bigger cutting surface.

Carol said...

We caught over two and a half inches of rain yesterday. I got very little accomplished because I just didn't want to get out in the rain. I was a slug. Glad I mowed the day before.

I might be able to stretch getting my roof here fixed as an accomplishment. I did make the call that got the guy out here to fix it. That took a little effort. Just looking a number up in the phone book is a challenge with my 20/400 eye. Even when my eyes weren't so bad, using a phone book has always been a challenge for me.

A big adult strip club in Tampa spent over a million dollars to spruce up their club before the RNC gets there. They did research that people attending the RNC, in previous years, spent an average of 150 bucks in adult clubs vs the DNC only 50 bucks.

jan said...

Hi ya'all,
interesting news about spending in the adult clubs for the RNC and DNC. Boy, if that does not tell you something, I don't know what does.

jan said...

I got here earlier today.

I like that saying "What were you thinking?" I can certainly turn that around and ask myself that on many occasions.

Carol, so glad you are doing ok with getting some refund on losses.

jan said...

I, again, like hearing about the DP case. What a creep he is. I too do not understand what the attraction is for women who get involved with guys like that and also women who write to men in prison wanting to be their girlfriends. WTF?

jan said...

I meant to say above "guys like that who it is already known that they have killed women."

Carol said...

Jan, I also ask myself the...what were you thinking..question quite often. I like it also.

Carol said...

If you ever have the time and want to know just about anything/everything you could ever want to know about the DP case from the beginning, you can find it on Justice Cafe

John and I went to Hendersonville tonight to eat. The rest of the folks here at the conference went to a farm to have a barbeque and a hayride. We did that a year ago while here. I didn't much like eating in a barn with all the flies. The little Hendersonville town is delightful and only about 10 miles away. The little town is quaint with most of the stores are gift shops and places to eat. We found a bar/cafe and had chicken sandwiches and later ice cream cones. It was fun and nice to get away from the usual routine.

It is almost 9 pm and we will walk back up to our cabin and leave the car at the lodge. We have flashlights. I will take a pic of our cabin and some other pics tomorrow.

We leave Mon morning.

Hope you all don't have any bad effects from the storm that is supposed to hit Florida. How ironic that it is hitting where the RNC will be. Its Karma!

jan said...

Carol, thanks for posting the site for the trial. I will look at it later.

Carol said...

Jan, until that storm goes inland I can't relax. And I certainly can't afford to do any chuckling. The models keep moving it a little to the west. I don't like that. You just never know. I think the RNC may be getting out of harms way unless they get a little surge that way and they probably will get lots of rain unless it moves much farther west.

I bet the RNC is having a heck of a time trying to figure out what to do. Having their convention in Florida at the height of hurricane season wasn't smart but they aren't well known for their smarts.

Carol said...

I'd love to see some pics of that place. Put them up when you get them. You don't have to wait until we get close to 200. You can put up a new post every day if you want. I was expecting you would.

Carol said...

Jan, the really horrible part of the DP case is that both women eventually realized what their fates would be and couldn't do anything to stop it from happening. Stacy wanted a divorce when she disappeared. She knew what happened to Savio.

DP had lots of help from his fellow officers. I don't think they did it purposely, at least I hope not. Now he has lots of help from the legal system. It's not like that for everyone who is accused of a crime. If you are a nobody and have nothing, you're shit out of luck. There are many who get no breaks while this monster gets nothing but breaks. I pray he doesn't walk. I guess if he does for KS's death, he can still be charged with his 4th wife's death..even though they have no body. He learned from the 3rd wife to get rid of the body.

Carol said...

I went out today looking for some of the materials for the camp. I need a new floor and while I'm at it, I'm going to fix up the kitchen cabinets. Believe me, I don't want to have to empty them again. I got a new faucet because I'm not getting anything but a trickle from the hot water in the kitchen. I needed some new drains for the sink.

I checked at Home Depot. They didn't have much to choose from. Then I went to Lowes. They has too much. I'm going to have a hard time choosing.

Then I went to Wally World. It rained a good bit of the day today also. It was pouring when I was ready to get my groceries out to the truck and I didn't have an umbrella. Got wet.

I decided to use a different guy to do my inside work at the camp. He needs the work. He's also a river rat. He did some work on a few things at the camp that were complicated and he did a good job. I'm supposed to meet him at the camp in the morning. He does this really beautiful wood sculpting so I think he may be more likely to do a neat job on what I need done.

I'm watching Judge Jeanne on Fox News, the only thing I will watch on that network. She is great again tonight. She's giving that DP judge a verbal thrashing. I wonder if he watches her. I assume she has been a judge so she should know something about being a judge. She thinks the judge is not allowing very vital information that is needed by the jury to connect the dots. I agree but what do I know.

Carol said...

I love Judge Jeanne! She's got a new big fan!

Carol said...

Coreen, do you ever watch her?

Carol said...

I just heard and saw that several of the tract models puts this storm coming in around New Orleans, about the same place that Katrina came in. We certainly pray that history doesn't repeat itself. Bad thing is the GSF model or what they call the American model puts it there. The European model places it more to the east. This is one time I hope that Europe wins.

Carol said...

And that is GFS and not GSF.

Carol said...

They don't know where this storm is going. Every update has those models moving all over the place. The only thing that is consistent is that it's not consistent. That's distressing.

Carol said...

This is a prayer that was originally dedicated to the victims of hurricane Audrey that killed so many people down in the Parish south of here. It was 1957 and mom took us kids to Eugene Oregon for the summer to visit our great grandma so we missed it. Rita was my first taste of true disaster from a hurricane.

I posted this prayer here a couple of years ago. I believe in the power of prayer.

O God, Master of this passing world, hear the humble voices of your children. The Sea of Galilee obeyed your order and returned to its former quietude; you are still the Master of land and sea. We live in the shadow of a danger over which we have no control. The Gulf, like a provoked and angry giant, can awake from its seeming lethargy, overstep its conventional boundaries, invade our land and spread chaos and disaster. During this hurricane season, we turn to You, O loving Father. Spare us from past tragedies whose memories are still so vivid and whose wounds seem to refuse to heal with the passing of time. O Virgin, Star of the Sea, Our Beloved Mother, we ask you to plead with your Son in our behalf, so that spared from the calamities common to this area and animated with a true spirit of gratitude, we will walk in the footsteps of your Divine Son to reach the heavenly Jerusalem where a storm-less eternity awaits us. Amen.

Carol said...

Yeah...and that includes protecting the people attending the RNC. Wouldn't want them to miss out on that strip club that the owner put a million dollars in to fix it up. Heaven forbid.

Carol said...

And I believe in Mother Mary. She's been good to me. She's kept my places safe and I wore her to work with me every day.

Carol said...

Now 4 of 6 models have it right over our head yet they keep the cone farther to the east. I don't understand that.

Coreen said...

The media reporting of the storm
is so over the top...it was this time last year that we were waiting for Irene...the non-stop
reporting of every nuance of the track only increased the apprehension...as it was Irene
certainly created significant destruction here & unfortunately
the causes of that destruction remain with only lipservice as to how to address the causes...here
that would be the management of trees that routinely take down power lines during most severe wind storms...

Coreen said...

No Carol, don't watch Judge Jeanine...but I do know who she is...she has been in the NY news
for years, when she was running in NY for some political office...as
a republican...& then she had some
personal problems with her husband, who she may or may not still be married to, have no idea...she does speak well whenever
you see her interviewed on tv....

she did write a book recently...'sly fox', a detective novel...

Coreen said...

Noticing the season is starting to change...the sun angles/shadows have moved just a bit...& the a.m. temps are back in the 60s, so its
not as hot & humid as July was...more bearable outside...

Carol said...

I'm out at the camp on iPhone. I got my guys to pick up my little generator to get it up and running. Last time it was started was 08 when Ike threatened.

The GFS model, usually the most reliable model has it coming in about where Rita did. Hope it is wrong. The predicted path moves west every time they update.

I thank God I'm not working.

IPhone is not cooperating, wont let me go back to fix a spelling error.

Rita was supposed to hit galveston when it turned and came in here. They just can't predict the weather anymore. Want to know what's happening, look out your window.

Carol said...

Our hummers came thru very early this year. I was pondering why. I do think they know more than we humans know A bad storm was one reason I did worry about.

Carol said...

Bad thing is I'll have to prepare two places for a hit. I need a handy husband. Is there a website called emergency husband.com.

jan said...

Hi Carol and TW, I am praying for you. We will be in the air early in the morning and won't be on line until tomorrow night. good luck. Talk to you then.

jan said...

Oh yes, got some good pictures today.

We are going to cloudcroft again on Friday to Sunday. More pictures then too.

Carol said...

I got nooo sleep last night. Our being in the cone and their not really knowing where this storm is going is killer. With the camp, there's lots to move. Everything has to go up and my boat has to be taken out because of the possibility of a surge. I can't wait until the last minute to get started.

Coreen said...

Hope the prep for the storm goes ok Carol...

Hope TW is close enough & as ready as possible if you guys have to
pool your resources & hunker down...

Also let's hope the reports that
the storm will land somewhere between NO & east hold, even though it looks like you would then get significant weather as well but not as catastrophic...

As it stands, looks like FL dodged a bullet...my friends there are
breathing easier today...one has a home in Islamorada in the Upper
Keys, my aunt is in the Villages
& others on the west Coast near Tampa/St. Pete....

Carol said...

Well, I got the generator fixed and ready. I carried it over the TW's. We have our plan ready. I went to Wally World and got some little butane bottles and cowboy coffee percolator, camping style. Like we used in the good old days. There are some priorities. Between the two of us, we have everything else we need.

Right now, I think we are in the clear. It's moving NW and headed for the city called New Orleans. I think that "Mary", not my sister, is working on it. It's not getting too strong yet.

Weather guy here is not impressed with any chances we have. No one out on the river has done anything. It was a normal day there. Keep those prayers coming and for those in harm's way. We hope the work they did on those levies in NO worked. This will give them a test.

Florida sure got kicked with lots of rain. They have been much more effected than I would have thought even though I know that the right and north side gets the worst of the weather. Even the east coast of Florida was getting hit hard.

jan said...

We are in Amarillo this morn. Watching the storm on TV. Hope you are ok Carol and TW. We will head home shortly.

Carol said...

I'm pooped. Yesterday it was difficult to put one foot in front of the other and make myself get stuff done.

I was up most of the night and finally just got up at 3 and stayed up. I did doze off on the couch a couple of times since.

I was wondering why I felt so fatigued but then I pondered that I have had quite a few life change events/stressors lately...both places being hit by that tornado with the camp getting the most severe damage, having to organize all the repairs, the robbery, then making a major life change when I decided to retire, and now this storm threatening in the area.

I decided I do need to give myself a break.

Carol said...

Still not sure what to do about doing any prep at my camp. The Weather Channel has a graphic where they show our coast line with a possible 3-6 ft surge. That doesn't make sense since most surges are to the right of the eye. The counterclockwise motion of the storm will drive water in on the right and out on the left. If we got a 3-6 ft surge, I'd have lots of work to do because it would drive water up under my camp.

NOAA shows a drop in tidal level on their Advanced Hydrologic Prediction charts for our area. That is what I would expect.

I'm holding off on any repairs to my camp until this storm passes out of the state.

I'm still very glad that I made my work decision when I did. I couldn't have continued there and dealt with all this other stuff. And then they wanted me to take on an additional job. Hah.

jan said...

Carol, I have been thinking about you and saying prayers for you and all in the storm's path.

You have made some big life changes and then God is making some life changes for you. Yes, give yourself a big break and be kind to YOU!.

jan said...

I am just watching your blog to see how you are doing. I hate to call you as I know you are very busy. But just know you are "always on my mind."

jan said...

We are home. It is only 4 hours to home from Amarillo. If it were up to me I would have driven home last night, but John does not like to drive that hard, even if I am doing some of the driving. Actually he prefers to drive. I do "spell" him off as often as he will let me.

jan said...

Carol, have not seen you here since yesterday afternoon. I wonder if you have electricity?

jan said...

I went back to work today. It was good to be back.

Carol said...

Well, we are still OK here in SW La. The wind is howling outside but hardly a drop of rain so far. The electricity did flash once and there are spotted outages around the area. I'm praying mine holds out. So many trees around here.

My old huge Live Oak doesn't even seem to move at all but the others are swaying a good bit. Good thing since my power line goes right thru that Oak tree.

I tried to post a comment earlier today on iPhone from the camp but it wouldn't go thru. I went out to check things there and feed my birds and hummers. They needed their fuel to fight the wind.

The wind gusts are reported to be up to 50mph outside.

Carol said...

You always want to be on the west side of one of those storms. It's night and day difference.

For the people in Plaquemines parish, south of New Orleans, this storm has been worse than Katrina. New Orleans is doing pretty well, under the circumstances. Poor Mississippi has been blasted also.

jan said...

Prayers for all of you Carol & TW.

jan said...

...and for your big oak tree.

jan said...

We watched some of RNC last night but none tonight. We watched an old movie on TCL - Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde.

Coreen said...

Good to hear you are ducking the worse of the storm so far...hope it keeps up, looks like another day to go...

The contrast here couldn't be any
sharper...it was one of those
exquisite days again...74, sunny,
blue sky, with a wonderful fresh
cool breeze, the one that comes from the NW....but only for one day, summer is going to come back
for the rest of the week...but fall is just 3 weeks away....

I so love when the air is fresh
& cool...windows were all open &
no a.c. running at all...

Coreen said...

I forgot to turn on tcm, Casablanca was on & I just forgot...my absolute fav movie ever...

I did see some of convention...& I know you won't appreciate this but Condi Rice gave a great speech
as did Ryan...

& Jan, I know you mentioned you don't like your gov. Martinez, but have to say...she was quite impressive...don't know anything about her...

Can you say what specifically offends you about her....

I even tried to catch some of msnbc comments, which I could only stand for a few seconds at a time (always interesting to hear the opposition)...they are so transparent...did notice that Chris Mathews looks really old as did Tom Brokaw...the gist of their comments was so blatantly pushing racism at just about every aspect of the repub convention...they are a sad & venomous bunch...actually glad GE sold it to comcast, since I do still own GE stock...

the next few weeks are going to be interesting, since I still don't see how romney/ryan can unseat obama but it will be interesting to watch...

Carol said...

It's raining lightly this morning but the wind seems to have died down. My prayers go out to others still in harms way.

I want to thank "Mary" et al for protecting us.

Now I hope someone might benefit from this rain maker..those suffering the severe drought.

Carol said...

Coreen, I don't have any particular problem with Condi. She can now play at Augusta.. I do think she was a little manipulated by George though. Behind every great woman is some duffus guy trying to screw her up.

Carol said...

I'm keeping up with the RNC thru Comedy Central...Jon and Stephen. That's the only way I want to keep up with them.

You are way more knowledgeable about the Repubs than I am so I'm open for your pointing out how Mitt can make this country better??

Maybe he can teach me how to avoid taxes and hide my assets in foreign countries? He certainly doesn't need his SS or Medicare so I don't think he will help me there.

Coreen said...

Looks like the worst is over for you guys, Carol...& that you survived another potential disaster
pretty well...always a good thing...

It will be interesting to see if the drenching rain that is posed to
spread across the mid states now will help with the drought conditions or
only flood out portions...

Not sure that Condi would see it the way you do Carol...

And the a.m. here is starting out
at just about 60, very pleasant, heading towards the 80s...but little humidity so far...

Carol said...

One of the problems with the Repubs is that they spew BS and hope their peeps are too ignorant to know any difference. Many are. They try to blame Obama for the problems they caused that he couldn't fix because they refused to cooperate in any way shape or form.

And they said..."We're not going to let our campaign be dictated by fact-checkers". No surprise there!

jan said...

Coreen, I do like Condi Rice. We taped the convention and are going to watch speeches tonight. I like Gov. Martinez. I was rootin for the dem nominee during the election for gov, but since Gov Martinez has been in office, I have liked what she has done. I look forward to hearing her speech.

jan said...

Coreen, your weather sounds delightful.

Carol, glad you did not get the weather you were expecting. I hope Ark gets a good drenching. They have had a drought.

Coreen said...

Carol you need to broaden your
sources of info beyond those that spin for the benefit of obama...& then form an opinion, not just fall in line with the dem. spinmachine, which is in high gear...

From what I have seen from the so-called 'factcheckers' like politifact...they absolutely lean
toward supporting the left/prog
viewpoint...that is from my own
evaluation of their various claims
for both parties...

it seems that each fact check for
obama & his minions they phrase in the softest gentlest terms of disagreement, even when the topic is so obviously blatantly wrong, never are obamabots incorrect, just a little bit wrong, while the so-called falsehoods of the repub side they scream wrong...

in reality if you analyze both sides, it is always somewhere in the middle...
bottom line the so-called neutral
fact checkers are not neutral, they
are in the obama camp ultimately...

example...the analysis of the obamabot ad infering plainly that romney caused the death of some woman who's husband lost his job in one of the already failing companies Bain had
bought & kept going for several years before the guy was let go...if you bought into the spin, the poor guy & his wife lost health care because of romney & she got cancer & died directly because of him...

It was an absolute lie...none of it was remotely factual, yet one of the so-called unbiased factcheckers gave obama's team a big pass...so much for objectivity...

It is time the left & their media
footsoldiers are held accountable...last week the NYT
factchecker ended his run & his final piece called out the liberal
leaning of the so-called paper of record...Did you hear about that
mild handslap at your fav places... if so what spin did the
huffinpuffs put on it...

As far as spewing crap...obama's team is at the top of the list on that score...& they also hope their
peeps are too stupid to see through it...& you know what..they are!!!...

And don't you think its about time
that obama sucks it up & takes responsibility for actions he & his adm have taken (or not taken)
to remedy the problems they repeatedly & tediously whine are not their fault...He wanted the job, he got it & he has not delivered....end of story...

When does the whining stop...its not my fault, the other guy was bad, I can't help it....give me a break...he never was a leader from day one...Hillary's 3 a.m. phone call ad rings in my mind all the time...she knew he was unqualified then & he still is...
He was never a leader & he is not a leader....

Carol said...

And to document that ignorant remark I made....

Paul Ryan Bets on the Ignorance of America

Yep, they blow lots of smoke up people's asses and they applaud..best speech ever. Very sad.

Coreen said...

Here's the NYT public editor's final piece...where he actually
spits it out...that the reporting team bleeds progressive causes which permeate the content of the paper...something that I see daily, just the way they phrase
an article shows their bias...

& guess what that would be ok, if the
media stopped feigning objectivity
& told the world just what their
respective agendas are, instead of
their holier than thou attitude that we are above partisanship...not that is true BS!!!

the likes of msnbc et al, have nothing on the hated fox brand...
& if I remember correctly Carol, you stated that fox gave hillary a more honest unbiased forum then those hypocrites at msnbc..
Success & risk

Coreen said...

Carol, haven't read your New York
piece yet, but my overview of it shows the same talking points that were
spit out last night by the likes of maddow et al, & this a.m. as well...(would not suprise me if those talking points were provided to all of the lib mediabots by the obama people, as soon as they had access to Ryan's speech) you are relying on the talking points of a blatantly liberal magazine that has repeatedly shown their obama/dem bias...

Haven't you figured out yet that more & more there is less & less objectivity & honest discussion on any side...you really need to pick through all of it to determine what
you may agree with or not...

You have shown often enough that you have no use for repub philosophy which is fine, but that doesn't mean that the views you find acceptable are the only correct views, they may be for you, but not so for others...

Carol said...

Ya know I'm not a big Obama fan. I've been highly critical of him. Both sides have a very ignorant electorate. That's why I had to stop watching it all. I don't deal very well with ignorant.

Coreen said...

Final thoughts on my confirmation that Obama was never a leader & does not deserve another 4 years...

What sealed it for me was his speech in roanoke, when he revealed
his distorted views of the government's place in one's life..

Pretty sure you heard about the roanoke virginia speech a few weeks
ago that has laid the background for the 'you didn't build it' theme of the repub convention as well as the attacks by romney/ryan
along the way since obama made that speech..

If you didn't hear/see it, watch it in its entirety & then tell me with a straight face that the media spin of it immediately after the repubs pounced on this giant
gaffe was other than a concerted attempt to save their guy...

They have consistently denied what was said, parsing the word 'that' to absurdly claim that obama did not say that those who built a business did not do it on their own, but they owed it to the government for their success...that the 'that' referred to was the govt building roads, etc which made it possible to succeed...that is/was just plain old bull/cow whatever crap you want to call it...crap!!!...

That entire speech for me revealed more about Obama than I wanted to knwo & was even more offfensive than the part that
has been the basis for so much discussion..

& yes I know Liz Warren
spewed the same rhetoric months ago, (about the time I changed by
view of her...she should have stayed a college prof, writing about the state of bankruptcy laws
& the economic effect on women)...

My family started & made a huge success of a business. (so much so that its success allowed me to go to law school & then create another successful business!)..& the govt
in no way is responsible for those
successes...anyone who dares say to me & others like me who have actually created successful businesses, should damn straight back down, since they have no concept of what is involved in running a business.. only a village idiot
would parrot the obamabots version of his ill-fated speech (& all you have to do is read various comments on the liberal blogs to see them running their mouths defending him)..& all who
persist in twisting it into other than what he really said & meant about his vision of govt place in one's life...as far as I am concerned, would qualify big time to be the ignorant ones...

Again, we disagree. None of us can say our success happens in a vacuum. For example, I got help from the government with a grant to go to grad school. I certainly couldn't have afforded to do it at that time and not at the University where I attended. What the government does provide allows us to use our talents and skills for success. If they don't think so, they should find some uninhabited island somewhere to move to.

People are in serious denial if they think they did everything by themselves and the government didn't contribute anything. It just aint so IMO. Most of those up there saying that are getting a hand out from us taxpayers as they speak. They are working for the government and I don't think they earn that money since they don't accomplish much of anything except making trouble and finding ways to line their pockets with the decisions they make.

We will just have to agree to disagree. Neither of us will change the other's mind.

Carol said...

Obama is not my guy. You must remember that my guy, ROEMER, had to drop out. No one wanted to listen to what he had to say. He made too much SENSE. He said that our government is bought and paid for, many on both sides of the aisle. The highest court in the land saw to it that that would continue to be the case. I think it was your conservative judges who fixed us up there Coreen. Well, one conservative judge, Justice Stevens, voted against it and did try to warn them.

We seem to want the same old, same old and then to bitch about it. I'm tired of bitching about it. I just had to remove myself from everything that doesn't make sense anymore. I'm tired of beating a dead horse.

Coreen, you'd fit right in down here in the conservative south. They think just like ya and the taxes are lower than where you live. (Bring your water wings) Ironically, you think everyone in the south are a bunch of ignorant slobs. Well..

Too bad this is not a beauty pageant because Romney and Ryan are a physically attractive pair.

Carol said...

The trial got really interesting this week. It's pretty much over now and up to the jury to make their decision after closing arguments.

They were never allowed to give any testimony that wife #4 is missing and presumed dead. The prosecution did manage to get in that Savio did tell many people that DP said he could kill her and make it look like an accident. They did manage to get in that wife #4 told her pastor that DP was not at home at the time wife 3 died. He came home in the wee hours, dressed in black and carrying some women's clothes that he immediately washed along with his own.

The pathologists were pretty much a wash since the prosecution experts called it a homicide and the defense experts said it was an accident. I happened to have found the prosecution experts more credible.

The defense case was short but not so sweet for them. They called this divorce attorney of Savio's. For some reason the prosecution didn't want him to testify. That might have been part of their strategy. The defense insisted. He got up there and testified that wife 4 called him to ask him to represent her also in a divorce from DP. She asked him if she could use the fact that she knew that he killed Savio as some leverage in that divorce. She wanted out and wanted the kids. That didn't work out too well for her even though it might for this trial.

Don't know what the defense was thinking there??? DP's last dead wife got in the final word..he's a killer. I do think the defense had some plan but not sure it's going to work out for them.

I sure hope this jury has some common sense but I don't find that common sense is very common these days.

Coreen said...

Have no idea what you are now referring to Carol...

Are you saying I said southerners are ignorant slobs? Pretty sure you brought up the word ignorant in your comments about Ryan, repubs & their 'peeps'...

I told you I thought those that have tried to spin Obama's you didn't build it speech would be the ignorant ones...for the reasons
I already stated...

You have an obviously different view of your role in life & the role of the govt as it relates to you...

From my perspective, those I know
aren't the takers but the givers to the govt. & the speech Obama gave was offensive in total....

Here we pay just about the highest amount of taxes & get the least back for it...and no I am in no way unhappy where I live, you are the one who seems to be uncomfortable with your southern neighbors views....

As far as your choice of Buddy, I said it at the time & you didn't agree then...but his views were by and large republican views...so what more is there to say about him...

Carol said...

Buddy is probably the true conservative. Unfortunately most of the others aren't. I just don't have the will or energy to fight about it anymore.

I'm at the camp and theyre tearing out my kitchen ceiling this morning. I'm shut up in my big room. With everything fromm kitchen in here, it's not so big anymore.

Got a letter the other day stating that they might be drilling for gas on some of Pa's property. That would be nice if they do and find some.

Carol,
I had left some messages at TM for you before Isaac touched land, and Renee told me that she thinks you don't stop in there anymore. She also told me you had retired, and I was happy to hear you were out from under all that stress at least.... (OK, lets just admit it: life is just one big stress after another -- all we can do is solve each problem as they come up, before we become buried in them. I often get to the 'buried' part myself).

Tony sent me your email address a few days ago (I had lost all my contacts addresses) and I emailed you at the the that ends in 777.

Well, I've heard nothing back from you, and so I figure you don't want to talk to me or you didn't get it.

Whichever it is, I want you to know how worried I've been about you, and how much I miss you. I think of you often, and still think you are making 'all' the right decisions.

I feel so sorry for all the hardships you're going through right now, but I know my sorrow doesn't make them go away.

Sending you love, Chloe

.. jeez!!
What an ordeal that was!

I couldn't remember my Google ID, and everything about how to comment has changed here.

Whew! I finally managed.

Jan-- Glad to see that you are doing well!

Anonymous said...

... and sending you love, too.

Coreen said...

Good luck with the kitchen repairs...

and even more if you have the opportunity to get some gas royalties from the estate property?...

Carol said...

Glad to see you also Chloe. Didn't get any emails from you. No, I don't get to TM much anymore. I have my hands full and politics is something that I just had to let go of for now. It's at the bottom of my priority list. Maybe that was the Universe's plan. I still do love all the peeps over there whether I agreed with them or not.

I'm so busy with so much.
It's a good thing that I'm not working anymore because I have no time for that. I can't even get to all I have to do without having to go to a job and hang out on the phone when I'm not there.

Carol said...

And Chloe, I feel blessed that my hardships haven't been anything like our neighbors to the east.

jan said...

Hi Chloe, so good to "see" you.

jan said...

What a joke the republican Convention has been.

jan said...

I did like some of our NM gov's speech.

Carol, so glad to see the storm's forces missed you for the most part.

Carol said...

I'll have to admit that I do keep up with some politics but pretty much only from the comedy aspect. I do still watch Jon and Stephen and they love them some politics. And their comedy almost writes itself, all they have to do is watch what is happening and ask people some questions. They even expanded their shows to Friday, at least this week, because they can't get it all in in just 4 days. They would miss too many laughs.

Like this Paul Ryan and the fact that even Fox News reports what a liar he is. Yeah, that's funny. And he can stand up in front of the world with a straight face and say what he says, take credit for things he never voted for and put down things he did. And those Republicans don't worry about the stupid liberal fact checkers. Who listens to those nerds anyway.

Carol said...

Yeah, it's hysterically funny how much they bitch about our government controlling people's lives and giving money to the lazy poor people but not about how much of our taxes are spent to bail out these corporations, oil companies, bankers etc. or trying to control what women do with their bodies. I'm LMAO.

It's amazing that there are some rich people who actually give a shit.

Carol said...

And poor Clint. He'd be better off finding a nice assisted living community than getting on national TV. His age is really showing.

After laughing about that, I remembered that after my robbery I chained all my lawn equipment together in my shop and wrote on my shop door..."Make My Day". Shortly after doing that, I wondered if the younger robbers would even recognize that quote.

Carol said...

And some fun trivia...more people watched Honey Boo Boo, the redneck show about the little chubby girl who does beauty pageants than watched the RNC.

jan said...

I want to see Honey Boo Boo. I have seen it advertised. When is it on Carol and what network?

I love you message on your shop door Carol.

I saw the Clint episode. Did Clint not know that Romney is a lawyer? ha ha ha

We are in Cloudcroft again. It is cold here this morning. I slept under a blanket and a comforter last night and took a while to warm up.

We went with our hosts last night to a melodrama in an outdoor community theatre. It was lots of fun. We booed the villain and applauded the hero. Everyone had popcorn to throw at the villain. Have not done anything like that in a long time. All actors and others were community members.

jan said...

You have to drive up a long mountain road to get here and there are no fast food places nor are there any big food markets. There is one gas station and an old fashioned grocery/general store.

Today there are going to be sidewalk sales and tonight there will be live bands and dancing in the streets. I will take pictures to post.

We are staying in the same house as the pictures posted above.

We don't have Hunter this time. As soon as we stepped in the door, I missed her. She is very special to me. John and I helped care for her the first 6 years of her life. Her mom has MS and she was having lots of problems with the MS when Hunter was very small. John and I moved to northeast AR when Hunter was 6 y/o and shortly after that, Steve and his family (Hunter's dad - my youngest) moved to Nancy's home town where she had family members who could help out with the 2 little girls.

Carol said...

Jan, post your pics as soon as you get some. That place sounds like a blast.

Carol said...

And it always is more fun when a young person around. They keep us feeling younger.

jan said...

We have been out back watching the hummers. Tried to take some pics of them but I could not get my camera settings right. I got a great one of John's profile however. I will try again later or tomorrow (hummers).

jan said...

You are so right about young people. Hunter is an old soul anyway - We are so used to having her around us that the comfort level is great but we both loved having her "young" perspective on things. You would like her Carol and she would like you. In some ways she reminds me of you. I emailed her this morning to tell her I missed her. She e-mailed me back. She is teaching a lab class for 1st semester chemistry students as a work study student. She is a lot smarter than me.

jan said...

Carol, thought you might get a laugh out of one of Hunter's e-mails. LIke I said, some things about her remind me of you.

Classes are going well here, our first Calculus test is on Tuesday so I'll be spending the long weekend locked away in the study room of the science building. My schedule is jam-packed, especially Monday/Wednesday/Friday days, but I love it. Work-study started this last week, as well as research. For work-study, I work as a lab technician for the introductory chemistry classes. I sit in the lab and answer questions for the students and help them with their experiments. Sometimes it's easier for them to ask me things than to ask the PhD in the room. I'm not as overbearing or judgmental about their stupid questions, although I do have to refrain from punching some of them in the head when they ask me how to convert between centimeters and meters while they're staring at a meter-stick. Oh well. Not everybody can multiply by tens, I suppose. The only scary thing that's happened was when I was asked by a nursing major, "What are cc's?" We are all doomed. I'll call you in a bit when I get my phone reactivated, ok? Love you both! Have fun in Cloudcroft!

Carol said...

She's way smarter than me too Jan. My first semester Chemistry almost took me down. It was the first class that proved to me that sleeping on my books wouldn't help anymore. I would actually have to open one.

I had a D average at mid semester. I went to see my prof. He got out his slide rule, no calcs back in those days. He told me what I had to do to earn a C. I did it. I did learn then that unlike high school teachers, college profs were very helpful.

Boy, the heat here is miserable. I open the front door and I'm hit with this damp burst of hot air. It's almost impossible to breath it. I just looked and the heat index is 115. Yuk!

Let me see if this works...I'm clicking my magic slippers together..there's no place like Cloudcroft, there's no place like Cloudcroft. Nope..I'm still here.

Carol said...

Sorry Jan but I can't help you with that Honey Boo Boo show. I've never seen it except on entertainment shows that talk about it. Not into that kind of reality show. I'd Google it for ya but even if I was dead, I wouldn't want that on my Internet history. LOL

jan said...

ha ha ha Carol. I did go on youtube and saw some bits of shows. I will find the Honey boo boo show. She sounds like a pretty smart little girl - even if it is street smart.

Sorry to hear about your heat. It is hot in Albuq too. It was very warm here in Cloudcroft this afternoon. We wandered down to the little town and into some quint little stores. There was some entertainment out on the square from El Paso. We found a great place to eat. Food was delicious and I am sure laden with calories, but what the heck. We are not getting any younger.

Carol said...

Hey Jan, they do say we should go into old age with a little meat on the old bones. I've certainly got some.

Carol said...

Don't tell anyone but I did Google to find out where little Boo Boo was from. I'm glad to know it wasn't my neighborhood. It's rural Georgia.

Carol said...

Tonight I'm looking forward to the Judge Jeanne show. She gives her take on the week's activities in the DP trial. She will most likely get a kick out of the boo boo, not Honey, but the one the defense made this week. I'm even hoping, if some of the defense attorneys are on, that Judge Jeanne will use our favorite question..."what were you thinking"?

I told you they called a witness and got out, at the end of the trial, that his last wife asked an attorney she wanted to hire to divorce DP, if she could use the fact that she knew he killed Savio to get advantage in her divorce.

Like I said, it didn't work out well for her since she disappeared a couple of days later but those words might just help hang DP. Hope so. I think it actually might have been a gift from God.

I'm sure the def attorneys will try to spin it, they already have, but they just look foolish doing it. I wonder if DP pooped his pants when that came out. The prosecution wasn't even allowed to come near that info.

Carol said...

I just finished watching Jon stewart's editorial on some of what was presented at the RNC. It was great. It will probably be rerun on Monday, earlier in the day.

I may not be a big Obama fan but he's so much better than his opponents. Some of my complaints with him is that he didn't fight them hard enough.

Carol said...

And I couldn't believe that senile Clint was actually blaming Obama for the Afghanastan war???? That old man should have been given his dementia meds and put to bed.

Jon Stewart has such a talented way of pointing out just how ridiculous and ironic it all is. Some will point out that he's just a member of the liberal media as a way to hold on to their delusions. But I have a difficult time understanding how any intelligent person can listen to that RNC BS and buy into it. It's just one of those mysteries that I will never understand.
