Oh Christmas Tree...

This is the first time in 15 years that I have put up a Christmas tree and decorated it. I have to admit that it does put me in a more holiday spirit. I had the help of 2 granddaughters and their dad. Here is a pic of the tree and some of the ornaments. I have been collecting the ornaments for about many years.

Carol, you may recognize some of the ornaments. Every December when we were finished with classes at McNeese, I would buy a kit and make or paint Christmas ornaments. I think there were about 4 kits altogether. I wonder if any of the ornaments are familiar.

Excellent Jan...pretty sure it's a real tree, I love a real tree & am missing not putting a real one up this year, but I just decided one was enough...

Would the ice skater be in your honor?...I seem
to recall that you skated at one time...

Yes Coreen, it is a real tree. That was John's choice and by chance as we were thinking of a tree, Whole foods down the street had someone in the parking lot selling them. They looked really fresh and that is what we did. We were thinking of one of the new ones with lights already on, but the smell of those real trees did it for us.

Yes, ice skating was once a passion of mine. Wish I could do it again, but so afraid of falling. the ice is not forgiving. I think I wold rather go roller skating though. It is not so cold, the skates are more comfortable and the floor is not as hard. I have been thinking of giving that a try. I must see if I can find a grandchild who will go with me. I have one in mind. She is 10 and likes to do lots of things.

We watched the Barbara Walters special tonight. Derek Jeter seems like a great guy. I am impressed. The Kardashians not so much. Herman Kain, not at all; Donald Trump, old news. Katy Perry - interesting but too young. The choice for most fascinating person was a good one - Steve Jobs.

Did either of you watch the BW special?

I can still hear Gilda Radner say "Baba WaWa. I wonder how BW felt about that. Gilda was one of my favorite TV personalities. Despite her funniness, she seemed to have a certain vulnerability about her.

Great pics Jan. You guys did a wonderful job. I didn't remember your doing those oraments but I remembered getting a kit one year and I'm sure it was because you inspired me to do it.

The thought of skating..any kind.. makes me shutter. Right now I'm afraid of walking. Have you had a bone density Jan? Wooden floors are pretty hard too but I know you are good on skates.

Yes..I did watch the Barbara Wa Wa special. Even though I wouldn't call any of them except Steve Jobs as fascinating..I still found the program entertaining. They were all interesting people.

Although I have not put up a tree in years, I continued to buy ornaments each year. I had them stashed in several different places so when we put up the tree, I had to poke through all the places I had put them It was like a treasure hunt, ha ha.

I bought the white angel (4th pic) and lion (don't have it showing - I will put it up later) in NYC in about 1981 or 82 when I went there on a trip with a friend. We had been in a nursing conference in DC. She was from NYC and her brother had a small apt there. He stayed with a friend and let us use his apt. It was the week before Christmas and it was a magical time. The lion was for Bob as his birthday is in the sign of Leo. Coincidentally, John's b'day is in sign of Leo too. These 2 are handmade and the pic does not show the detail. They are quite beautiful. There are several ornaments that are from NM. The red wolf is the mascot for UNM and in the same pic is a religious symbol for one of the indian tribes here. The blue and white skating girl is one I made out of a kit in about 1969 or 70. She is felt

The green and white angel in last pic is from same kit - and is also felt.

I could not figure out how to add new pics to this post so I just started a new post with some additional pics of ornaments.
