Pumpkin Days

My grandson in CO sent these pics last week. They took their almost 2 year old to the local pumpkin patch. They are having their 2nd baby in Jan. 2012. They have decided to be surprised as to whether boy or girl.

Wonderful pics Jan. Whoever took them did a good job. Good composition. Great pics for Fall even though it looks like we are bypassing Fall and headed right for Winter.

Carol said...

I saw snow falling in Hartford on the Weather Channel. I hope you can still watch TV. Still have power? They said 2 1/2 million are already without power. Let us know if you are still up and running.

jan said...

My granddaughter in law took the pictures. Her hubby (my grandson) got her a super duper camera. She is good.

jan said...

I love the one with their dog. Looks like he is so proud of his pumpkin.

jan said...

Coreen, just looked at the NYT and this is what I found about Connecticut.
About 10 p.m., Connecticut Light and Power reported that 564,018 customers were without power.
Hope it is not you. Check in and let us know you are oK if you can.

Very nice pics Jan, 2 cuties...your great grandchild & what I guess is a black lab...

So far so good here...it started snowing about 11 a.m., very heavy during the day, still snowing, estimated to end here about 2 a.m.

There are power outages all around, but so far
ok, same with my family & friends...but still need to get through the overnight...hope I don't wake up cold & in the dark....

When I checked just before 6 pm, there was 4" outside the garage, it is heavy & wet, which is what is weighing the trees down...

Seems upstate CT is getting the worse...reports on the late news of 15-18" already around Hartford...

Spoke with Don who plows the driveway, he is ready to clean it out in the a.m., hopefully
no tree limbs will fall across the driveway...when I was out early afternoon, walked out to get the mail, all was clear...

Once it is over the temps for the week are to be in the 50s so the snow will go away, just have to get through the night...

Carol said...

Yes Jan..the babies in the last two pics were adorable.

Carol said...

Coreen..let us know you are OK and how much "record" snowfall you got. Get some pics to post after we've had time to enjoy the Fall pics Jan put up.

It didn't get as cold last night here as they predicted and very sunny during the day. Actually..very nice.

Anonymous said...

All's well so far...driveway is plowed, I wound
up with 6"...some branches down, one of my cherry trees in front of the house is down completely....the others branches touching the ground...Don said my neighbor in one of the big houses w/horseshoe driveways has a big limb covering one side of their driveway...
haven't walked out the driveway yet, all the trees are heavy with snow & not sure if any will snap...

Carol said...

Watching this pityful Saints game. They must have forgotten to wake up from thier naps today. They are playing a 0-6 Rams and losing 10-0!

Carol said...

Yep, have been beaten badly by a 0-6 team. Well, not quite yet but there is no time to save themselves. I couldn't even watch most of it. Yuk!

This is an interesting article about Steve Jobs written by his sister. She reveals the last three words he said before he passed. Check it out and let me know what you think it means.

A Sister’s Eulogy for Steve Jobs

Carol said...

Just heard on HLN a story about how the auto correct on someone's iphone or it might have been an ipad since they both do it..changed a person message to seriously change the meaning of what she was typing.

The auto correct is a feature where the device thinks it know what you are trying to spell. It will finish spelling a word for you and if that is not what you wanted to spell..you have to x it out. Sometimes it's nice and sometimes it's a pain.

She typed..dad and I are going to Disney..but the auto correct typed dad and I are going to divorce. I think it kinda scared the kids.

I thought it was funny since my iphone has done similar things to me. The phone thinks it knows what I'm trying to say.

Carol said...

I had a little "sweet lemon" thought about my Saint's loss yesterday. It gave St Louis a VERY good day yesterday. They had their baseball team celebrating their big win and their football team celebrating winning one big game. Good for you St Louis!

Carol said...

Oh...Happy Halloween.

I hope my day is not too scary. I certainly got alot of calls from work this weekend and that usually doesn't make for a good Monday.

Anonymous said...

Would I be on the right track, if I thought you may believe that Steve Jobs final words indicate some afterlife confirmation...

I would like that it would be so that finally there was absolute confirmation of an afterlife, unfortunately, for me, the words
could have so many different meanings, I can't
say what they may have meant...

For now, everyone gets to believe what they want about whether there is or is not life beyond physical death here on earth...honestly I have no idea...it is simply a belief, hope,
nice idea that one either holds or doesn't...

And what a day to consider that unresolved concept...Halloween, the day Harry Houdini died & the day his wife held seances in hopes of him reaching back from beyond to let her know he was somewhere....so whatever
you believe....trick or treat & Happy Halloween!!!....

Did I mention that I love magic & illusion, have no idea how they do it, but am totally fascinated by all such things...

Anonymous said...

Forgot to mention, his sister's eulogy was very touching, so much thoughtfulness...I liked her statement that ...we all die in the middle of a story, many stories....

Carol said...

Jes Coreen, that's what I thought and I'm hoping for.

Do you get any trick or treaters out your way? I haven't had any since I've lived in rural areas. If I get a knock on my door, I'm going for my gun.

Anonymous said...

No trick or treating in my area...there are no lights, no sidewalks, & the houses for the most part are set a ways back from the roads...

Usually there is a town held bonfire (set by the fire dept) with costume parade, etc., but not sure since it snowed on Saturday & about 1,000 houses still had no power as of this a.m....

Carol said...

Heard on ET that Kim K and hubby lasted 72 days and they made 25 million on that wedding. That entire thing was just a way to make money. Just another dumb episode of a dumb reality show and they don't want gay people to marry??

Carol said...

Those houses without power might really enjoy that bonfire Coreen. Did your snow all melt?

Anonymous said...

Not yet...hopefully by the end of the week...

Just watching the live greenwich village halloween parade... just now about 100 'zombies' dancing in the street
to thriller....& yes the lead dancer was dressed like michael jackson...& giant puppets too...

Almost forgot, you asked about CC...someone thought the yankees should let him go...well, He's staying with the Yankees....
CC stays a yankee

Carol said...

It's a spooky DWTS...

They all look better in their costumes. Nancy looks better in darker hair and I find Rob strangely attractive tonight.

Carol said...

Coreen, I wanted to know your opinion of whether the Yanks should pay him more to stay?

Carol said...

Ricki did something to a rib. That's awful. It even hurts to sleep with rib injuries. I hope is isn't over for her.

Carol said...

David didn't impress me.

Carol said...

And how can anyone do a good tango to Ghost Busters?

jan said...

I'm Back!

Carol, I just read the article about Steve Jobs. Wow! It does make you wonder what he was seeing or hearing or experiencing. Thanks for putting that link on.

jan said...

Coreen, I am glad you have power. I hope this all passes you by and you get your home generator real soon.

Anonymous said...

You should know already, I have absolutely no
problem with the Yankees paying their players whatever it takes...I am happy that CC did not
opt out, he has said he really likes playing/living in NY....

I get really tired of the whining yankee haters complain about the yankee payroll...

jan said...

Even without the last 3 words or statements Steve's sister reports, I loved her eulogy. What an interesting man he was. What a loving sister and they didn't meet until they were in their 20's. Both followed their "Bliss"

jan said...

I wonder if the reason Steve Jobs worked so hard was that unconsciously he may have known he would not live to old age.

jan said...

John picked me up at the airport at almost 6 pm tonight. I had left him some homemade soup in the fridge so we had that for supper. So good to get home. John bought 3 big bags of candy. We have had one set of T or T's and its very dark now so don't expect many more and we have all this candy.

jan said...

Coreen, when you get some pics, feel free to put them up and start a new thread. I look forward to some pics of snow and your home environment.

jan said...

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Carol said...

Welcome home Jan. Missed you.

I hope you bought candy that you both like to eat. I would have. Actually I bought more candy than usual this week, not T or T candy but just my favorite candy. Halloween must have put me in the mood.

Carol said...

All the music tonight on DWTS is ghastly. It's hurting everyone. It's hard enough to learn these dances without having to dance to something you would never think of dancing to.

Anonymous said...

DWTS was just ho hum....until Derek & Ricki...
I thought she held her form really well, (contrary to what Carrie said) it was sharp, fast & thoroughly enjoyable....

Carol said...

Yep, Rob looks better with his hair slicked down. He should stick with that one. Don't care for his regular do.

Carol said...

I'm behind and trying to catch up.

Carol said...

Yes..Ricki and Derek were good but they had the best dance music of the night so far.

Carol said...

I thought Hope looked really good in that last Team Paso. It helped her not having the spotlight on just her.

jan said...

There was no doubt that Team Paso was best. But that is not a surprise as I suspect Derek choreographed. Did anyone see the practice session for the Paso. Max was giving Hope a hard time and left and Derek stepped in to show her the steps and he was talking gently to her. What a pro he is. I think they should let Max go. He is not a good teacher. I think if Derek had Home they would be winning.

Hope was smiling more tonight and that helped. She has great teeth and a beautiful smile.

jan said...

home=Hope.

jan said...

Thanks for welcome back Carol, Yes, too much candy. It was a stressful time. My sis and I had a good night together sun nite. The session in the atty's office lasted 3 hours. We had several "interrogatories" to address from the lawyer for the defendents. Then we rushed to the airport. I should have planned to stay one more night. I think my sis and I needed a second night to recover.

So I came home and John had small choc hershey bars and I ate several. I am getting rid of them today. I will take them to the nursing bldg for students.

jan said...

Last year I bought the candy and I bought candy I don't like. That is the better thing to do - for ME.

Carol said...

On lunch break:

Sometimes that doesn't work out Jan. A while back I bought this bag of Russel Stover candies that included 4 different types of their candy, turtles, chocolate covered coconut, chocolate covered carmel, and dark choc covered mint.

I wasn't interested in the choc covered mints so after all the others were gone, I still had the mints left in the frig. They sat in there for a while and one night when I was out of all other candy, I ate one. It was so refreshing that I ate the rest and I've bought a bag of just that candy every week for the last couple of months.

Carol said...

Jan, it would be better if I could read some of the comments about the dances before I watched them then I could pay more attention to some of the side things that are going on. I do record the program so I can go back to see what I missed.

Many on that Pure DWTS blog were bitching about Max. I thought that Hope did so much better having that other guy working with her. She does need to straighten up those knees of hers. Maybe she doesn't want to be as tall as Max or maybe, as a goalie, she is used to standing with bended knees.

Max was very rough with Hope and I just bet that if she took a notion, she could punch his lights out.

Who else did Max work with before? He was with Kirsty last time and she handled him pretty well but I can't remember who was with him the season before that. Was it Kate Gosslin? I do remember her having some problems with her pro but she was kinda obnoxious.

Carol said...

Those Kardasians sure have meserized alot a people but it hasn't effected me yet. I still can't see it. I think Rob still dances very flat footed.

Carol said...

It may be Nancy's turn to go tonight or David. I guess it's up to who has the bigger fan base.

Carol said...

And as the show started tonight I was laying on the couch with my eyes closed. I listened to Justin Beiber sing without opening my eyes to watch and I thought...what makes this kid such a phenomena? His voice is not that great.

Maybe I'm just too far past 13 years old.

Anonymous said...

Well that was just wrong!!!...

The only thing good about Justin Beiber was Boys 2 Men...

Carol said...

Well either way there was going to be a child or two very disappointed with the results tonight.

I still think David danced better than Rob and Nancy also. It all comes down to who has the most voters out there.

Carol said...

I'm glad it wasn't Hope even though we could lose Max.

Anonymous said...

I don't like Hope at all or Rob or Nancy...It should have been the 'end of the road' for any one of them...time for them to go...

jan said...

I thought it should have been Nancy. Her dancing was not good last night. I thought David danced so much better. But as we have all said, it is the one who has the biggest fan base.

jan said...

I did not want Hope to go. I think she did good last night and is really trying to be a dancer.

jan said...

Carol, I love choc covered mints but when I read that mint relaxes the gastric sphincter which contributes to reflux, I gave them up.

jan said...

I am betting on either JR and ? or Ricki and Derek to win this time.

Carol said...

Jan..I read some kind of blog post on something where Kym wrote that she was afraid it would be David. I didn't know much about him but I came to like him over the season.

I really didn't care who it was last night of the bottom 4. I still don't understand how Rob has such a big fan base. Is he a big part of the Kardasian reality show? Has anyone even ever seen it? The only reason I've seen some of the other Kardasians is because they show up on other TV talk shows.

Carol said...

And I wonder if those stunts pulled by Max have actually saved Hope the last couple of weeks. I kinda felt like that look they exchanged last night.. when she was safe.. said it all. I can't believe that Hope has that big a fanbase.

Carol said...

Jan..I've read that even the chocolate aggravates reflux but I can't give it up.

jan said...

Carol, as much as I love those choc mints, York Peppermint patties are my fav, I gave them up. I do not like pain.

jan said...

I like Hope. I suppose because she is an athlete. She had makeup on and smiled big and I think that helped. It could have been Max's antics that kept them on. I am not that fond of David, Rob or Nancy. So any of them can go anytime. I think I would like JR to win. He works so hard to dance well and he is good. I pick Ricki for the 2nd prize.

jan said...

Well, I guess David has gone. LOL

jan said...

I am not into the Kardashians. They are just a reality show.

Carol said...

Isn't it interesting what they call a reality show? None of it is real! It's all a bunch of crazy BS. I haven't found a single soul that watches any of them. I'm not sure where they get an audience except from the other media people who like to talk about those crazy shows.

They do stuff some of the crap down your throat even when you're not interested. For example, I like to watch the View and they often have some of those characters on their show.

Today the View had mama Kardasian on. She just wrote a book. Is it going to be a best seller??

They were talking today about that joke of a wedding Kim K put on. Mama didn't say that but one of the ladies said that Kim put out some comment that she was getting her divorce because after 72 days of marriage she found out that it wasn't the fantasy she thought it would be. Well duhhh! Maybe she meant that when the money quit pouring in from the wedding, she lost interest. They should stop letting heterosexuals get married.

Carol said...

I caught this on HLN this afternoon. It made my blood boil! You won't be able to watch much of it but you have to see this youtube showing this monster family court judge in Texas. I hope they throw the book at him and, for sure, get him off the bench. It also includes her poor pathetic mother.

His daughter evidently downloaded some stuff from the Internet which led to the beating. I'm not saying that his daughter didn't deserve to be punished but this is an assault.

This abuse took place 6 years ago when she was 16 but she says she released it because he continues to harrass her.

Abusive Texas Family Court Judge

Carol said...

Oh, and this judge oversees cases of child abuse. Do you think he is qualified?

Carol said...

I kinda think that a more appropriate punishment would have been to ban her from using the Internet? But that wouldn't have gotten his rocks off. He seemed to get great pleasure out of the beating.

And she used her computer to record him...karma!

Carol said...

Unfortunately, that video stirred up some old feelings of hatred for my father when he beat my older sister. I know Mary and I got it also but don't remember those as well.

My big sis, in my eyes, was Ms Goodie Two Shoes. I never saw her as doing anything wrong. She was 6 years older and that was like being an adult in my eyes back then. She was in church all the time, a top of her class student, in all types of extracurricular activities and good at all of them. And my father seemed to beat her pretty harshly. It made my little girl blood boil. I felt extreme hatred of him when he beat her.

Maybe I didn't see her as deserving the beatings or maybe I thought he got too much pleasure out of it or maybe I thought it was more his frustration with his own life coming out. Ya know, little kids do do some thinking.

What's weird is...when big sis and I have discussed it, she doesn't remember those beating like I do.

Carol said...

Jan, I hope you don't forget to watch Modern Family tonight. It's really cute. I was so disappointed last week when it was a rerun.

Carol said...

A big game is coming up this weekend. They're calling it the game of the century. It's the LSU/Alabama game.

jan said...

Just saw something about it on TV. Tickets going thru the roof.

jan said...

Coreen, did you watch Xfactor last night. I was going to phone in for the girl singer that was so amazing. Then I got a call from son in AR who is having problems and was distracted - so no calls after all. The public will be voting now. The one girl - bad with names is amazing, probably best voice I have ever heard. I think she is right up there with Streisand. Tremendous range.

jan said...

The girl singer was the one Simon went after in Florida after he didn't vote her in the final 16. I think that was a publicity stunt.

jan said...

Carol, I have not watched the link you put for the beating of the girl. Just cannot watch stuff like that any more. Too distressing. I am sorry to hear your dad beat your sister. My dad whipped my sister too until her bottom and legs were badly bruised. If that were to happen today, they would have taken her away from my parents. She has lots of emotional scars today. She confronted him about it 2 years before he died and he cut her out of his will.

Carol said...

These parents, whether mothers or fathers, who beat their children like that, have serious problems. I think it's more about what's going on in their heads.

What was your sister's position in the family? Was she the oldest, middle or youngest? Parent's are often tougher on the oldest and big sis was the oldest.

That video has gone viral and that judge is in hot water right now. I hope so. I'm sure it is too late to charge him with anything but his may lose his career.

I read that he and his wife split in 2007 and she mentioned to someone that he had an addiction problem but didn't say to what. Watching that video gave me the feeling that his wife was very likely a victim also.

Judges have a lot of power and sometimes it goes to their heads.

Carol said...

This afternoon at work was kinda quiet and one of the nurses who watches XFactor was showing me some of the contestants on XFactor. We listened to most of them. They are good.

You must be talking about that Amaro woman. She was good, the best in Simon's group IMO, and I don't know why he would have ever let her go??? Maybe, like you said, for drama. Maybe it's not just "the voice". That's actually another singing show.

Many in the music industry that make it big don't have that great a voice.

Anonymous said...

Watched some of xfactor...was still unimpressed with the acts...except for Melanie...she is so far above the rest of the
acts, but that may or may not count for her to
win...she should, but...

would hope that regardless of the outcome, that she winds up with a successful singing career, however, no guarantee of that either...

Does anyone know whatever happened to most of the acts from american idol....like the girl from NYC Pia? (italian)...she also had the best voice of that group, but was tossed, dated DWTS dancer Mark Ballas, was signed to a recording contract with someone...now where is she?....

jan said...

I saw the video of the judge is on TV now. My sis is middle child. I am oldest. I was very compliant and stayed out of his way.

jan said...

just saw Modern Family. Really cute.

jan said...

Coreen, I like 2 of the girls on X factor. Amaro is my favorite of all, but I like Bree (blonde girl), Leroy and Josh (over 30). I don't care for any of the groups or the guys.

jan said...

Tonight one goes home.

jan said...

Carol, I just watched the video of the judge beating his 16 year old daughter. The sad thing is that kind of punishment was perfectly acceptable when I was growing up.

jan said...

...and worse.

Carol said...

Jan..I figured you would eventually see that video.. want to or not. When something goes viral..it infects all aspects of the media.

Yes..it was and probably may still be a form of punishment that is far too common but I still that one was extreme. It lasted at least 7 minutes and the judge hit her at least 17 times. He was swinging with all his might and had a good rage going..pure hate. And I think many who watched it felt the same way toward him.

Some of the comments on some of the websites it was shown on had people offering to go after him. He might want to hide out for a while and I think he is.

I still think it is kinda sick to use a leather belt to beat the hell outta your kids. There just has to be a more intellectual way to discipline.

Carol said...

Who got the boot on the XFactor?

Carol said...

Yes Modern Family was cute. I liked the part where papa was dancing out there with Gloria.. with abandon.. thinking he was high on some club drug and it was only a baby aspirin that his son gave him. He only took it because he was desparate to please Gloria and didn't like to dance.

It reminded me of a time..many moons ago..when I gave this Christmas party. It was at my first apartment. We made a mixer punch with no alcohol in it. Mom and SF came and mom was drinking that punch and acting a little tipsy. All she had was the punch. Her eyes even seemed to have a little glassy look to them. I later told her that it had no alcohol in it. I waited until late to tell her. I didn't want to ruin her pseudobuzz.

Carol said...

Have you guys heard enough about Herman Cain?

jan said...

Carol, love the story about your mother and the punch. I am LOL now. I loved the baby ASA too.

I agree completely about the judge. We were whipped with a belt and a razor strap (my dad was a barber for a time) but he never talked so hateful to us. He would say stuff like "I am doing this because I love you" which I too think is a crok of s***. Nevertheless, we never had a whipping go on so long. Both parents were talking like they hated their child. I never thought my dad hated us. I did not forget a single whipping. I never hit my kids and would not allow Bob to hit them either. My mother used switches to punish us. My dad did not whip me after I was probably about 10.

Carol, did your dad or mother spank or whip you?

jan said...

If I were that judge, I would hide too.

jan said...

One of the groups got the ax tonight. It was the big group that the judges put together from about 10 kids they thought were talented but did not make it into the chosen groups that were going to the judges' homes. The group was called Intensity.

jan said...

I wonder how this is going to work if only one judge is left with his or her group (X factory). I guess that is the way it could be. I bet the groups will go first. The bottom two acts were 2 of the groups. It is hard to get attached to a group.

jan said...

Off to bed.

Carol said...

Oh yes Jan. Mary and I got whipped and with a belt and had whelps. Dad was the whipper and mom just liked to slap or break something over our heads. She was more of a reactor..only one strike but it could be a doosy.

I think they were worn down a little for us or having two of us to go after was a little overwhelming.

I still remember feeling a certain amount of rage when we were whipped. I don't remember any significant anger toward mom for her single strike even when one of them could have caused me brain damage.

One day I was ignoring her. Actually..that happened pretty often because she liked to nag. I didn't even realize I was ignoring her..my brain just tuned her out. Well..it got the best of her on this one occasion and she over reacted by swinging a large Igloo ice cooler at my head. She hit her mark and I saw stars for a while. I don't think that improved my concentration. I might have learned to keep my head down.

Carol said...

Rut rho..Nancy Grace came across that judge beating his daughter video. That's not good for him. She went ballistic. Dancing hasn't settled her down any.

She said she was coming after him and dragging lady justice with her. I'm sure lady justice even tries to hide from her.

She played short segments of that video over and over. I still think that judge was seriously trying to do damage. He had this wide legged stance like he was winding up to pitch a baseball.

Carol said...

I had this Dr from one of our local hospitals call and wake me up after midnight. She said she had one of our inmates in the ER who tried to overdose on her psych meds. Evidently the woman hoarded them. She wanted me to give her the woman's medical history. Yeah..like I keep that info in bed with me.

She did know the names of the meds she took but she wanted the rest of her medical history. I told her I had close to 1300 inmates and didn't keep those records at home with me.

jan said...

Carol, I am still laughing at your family life and comments about Nancy G. I read them to John and he is laughing too. I suppose it really is not that funny, but sometimes we have to laugh to keep from crying.

I too am unable to be mad at my mom. My therapist told me I should be angry at her because she did not protect me on several occasions. But like you, It is just not possible.

Funny about the doc thinking you would be able to recite the woman's medical history from home - without med chart.

jan said...

Coreen, the comments on the tv blog say Amauro's song (Desperado) gave people goosebumps. I do think she has the best voice since Streisand. Her range is incredible and her high notes are pure and melodic - rather than screeching like some singers. I would buy her albums now.

Hey Carol, Congrats!!...

Tide got rolled...& in their own house....

And for what its worth Carol, just about all the NYC sports guys were saying LSU would win...

But I'm sad for one of my all-time favs, Joe Namath....

Carol said...

Thank you guys. I went over to a friend's to watch the game and I made my spinach artichoke dip. I love the stuff but need an occasion to fix it. We also made fajitas which is something else I won't make for just me.

I was very worried about the game since more sports people than not were saying Bama would win. It's neat that your guys up there were betting on us Coreen.

The game was very tense..not fun and exciting except at the end when we won. Everyone figured it would be low scoring and all defense.

The defense intercepting Bama's pass on the goal line saved us. That was the play of the game in my book.

Happy Birthday Carol...

Any plans to celebrate...casino visit maybe?....

Whatever the day brings, enjoy...

And wish Mary the same...

Congratulations Carol on LSU winning the big game.

NEW POST
