The anger was instant among baseball fans, no matter what you were doing, watching baseball, listening to sports talk radio, watching TV news, reading the sports section of the paper...the only topic was the Perfect Game that wasn't....
Baseball rules don't allow replays to determine anything other than home run controversies, so once the ump called the runner safe at first, the Perfect Game was no more...
There seems to be universal agreement that there was no question but that the runner was out and the ump's incorrect call cost Galarraga his chance at baseball immortality...
So much so that the next day MLB Commissioner Bud Selig had a meeting to consider whether to reverse the ump's call and declare it a Perfect Game. However, Selig decided late in the afternoon that the call would stand and for all time this game will be a one-hitter that Detroit won by a score of 3 - 0, but that everyone knows was a Perfect Game....
In the history of baseball there have been only 20 'official' Perfect Games (with 2 this year in the last month) pitched. A perfect game...when a pitcher for 9 innings does not allow an opposing player to reach first base, whether by a hit, a walk (base on balls), hitting a batter, or a fielding error...the pitcher retires all 27 batters in order...
Armando Galarraga did just that on June 2, 2010, but human error failed to acknowledge this and he will be denied his place among those select few honored at Cooperstown in that exclusive club of pitchers who have pitched a perfect game....
One thing that can be taken from this event is the image of a pitcher who has graciously accepted the outcome and an umpire who took responsibility for missing the call and immediately apologized to Galarraga, who with class and grace, accepted the apology....

When someone asks you your favorite sport
And you answer Baseball in a blink
There are certain qualities you must possess
And you're more attached than you think.
In the frozen grip of winter
I'm sure you'll agree with me
Not a day goes by without someone
Talking baseball to some degree.
The calendar flips on New Year's Day
The Super Bowl comes and it goes
Get the other sports out of the way
The green grass and the fever grows.
It's time to pack a bag and take a trip
To Arizona or the Sunshine State
Perhaps you can't go, but there's the radio
So you listen-you root-you wait.
They start the campaign, pomp and pageantry reign
You claim the pennant on Opening Day
From April till fall
You follow the bouncing white ball
Your team is set to go all the way.
They fall short of the series
You have a case of the "wearies"
And need a break from the game
But when Christmas bells jingle
You feel that old tingle
And you're ready for more of the same.
It will be hot dogs for dinner
Six months of heaven, a winner
Yes, Baseball has always been it.
You would amaze all your friends
If they knew to what ends
You'd go for a little old hit.
The best times you're had
Have been with your Mom and your Dad
And a bat and a ball and a glove.
From the first time you played
Till the last time you prayed
It's been a simple matter of love.

Hooray for Armando and hooray for Coreen for putting up this post!
I can't think of anything more depressing for a person's career than to accomplish such a feat and then be denied the credit for it.
Armando, you're the man and fan or not, we are all proud of you. I certainly hope baseball changes that rule and Armando is given his due credit.
And both men, Armando and the Ump, demonstrated behavior we can all be proud of.
With all that is going on in this country, there is not much we can be proud of. It took a couple of people involved in America's game to do it.
This BP nightmare has had a purpose. It's to rub our faces in what's been allowed to happen to this country. If we don't all realize what is going on now, shame on us.
That company has been doing some horrible things with very few sanctions for a long while now. People knew and let it continue.
Go to Huff Post and look at the lead photo. I'm still crying. That photo is so much worse than the one Chloe linked. Our little birdies guys. Our poor little birdies.
And some are still saying drill baby, drill, out in the water. Don't they understand that we don't have the technology to keep this sort of thing from happening again, or to stop it or to fix it once it happens!
Heaven forbid, if there is a hurricane, that could be in my yard! Well, it already is I guess. It's in all of our yard.
And the good news is........ the Trailmix video is ready and available for viewing at
Trailmix Video
I stepped outside to do something before I leave and there was Alli gator cruising by. Mr. M was out standing on the wharf. I hope he is careful. I hope he knows not to play with Alli.
Carol, what a way to start the day....Let's hope Mr. M and his crew are extra careful...
goes for you guys down along the river too....
Craig did a really nice job with everyone at TM....
Nice Corvette!
That alligator would scare the hell out of me with those ducks around Carol (not just ducks, but any other small animals too). I wish there were no such thing as predators, but of course, that's a ludicrous statement to make.
Nature is not only beautiful, but can also be pretty scary at times. But still.... the whole package is irresistible.
Tony and Carol, I looked for that Blue Diamond almond milk here too, and haven't seen it (although that was a while back). Texas has never been into offering health minded foods, which I noticed immediately, when I moved here because Ca. was so much into health (and I bet Florida is health minded too Tony).
... Ha Carol, I finished writing this, and see that you already said we aren't very evolved in the area of nutrition. Louisiana and Texas have 'so' much in common (not just the weather :).
"peaceful, quiet, and serene"
... My idea of Heaven, Ivy.
Sometimes that only happens in the middle of the night. Actually, when Emma is napping, parts of my days can be like that too (week days, that is) - and I love it. I used to have my little plaque that I kept on my desk at work that said 'Silence is Golden', and I truly think it is.
.... I have to admit how grateful I am to have such a good life.
I wasn't expecting the TM video until tomorrow...nothing like an early birthday surprise. I will have to 'fess up about the little "White House" not being mine...but I can't tell if C-Bob is pulling my leg or not...he is a wise soul who sees and knows everything! lol
I don't know if you can blame the umpire or not...everyone makes mistakes. It seems to be the rigidity of the rules that won't allow for the mistake to be corrected - and the people enforcing those rules - that are the problem.
I came across this little story in my quiet readings last night...
"One afternoon, when veteran American League baseball umpire Bill Guthrie was working behind the plate, the catcher for the visiting team repeatedly protested his calls. Guthrie endured this for three innings. In the fourth inning, Guthrie stopped him. "Son," he said gently. "You've been a big help to me in calling the balls and strikes and I appreciate it. But I think I've got the hang of it now. So I'm going to ask you to go to the clubhouse and show whoever's there how to take a shower."
- Dan McKinnon from "Daily Affirmations for Forgiving and Moving On" by Tian Dayton, Ph.D., p. 15
I forgot to bring my bird feeder inside last night. Rocky the Raccoon upended it and feasted on the entire contents. I use hulled sunflower seeds, so they are especially tender and sweet. Hubs awoke again and saw him out there going to town. Instead of sending Rocky packing, Hubs just laughed and went back to bed. He laughed even more this morning when the feeder was empty and knocked down. What a heart!
"Instead of sending Rocky packing, Hubs just laughed and went back to bed."
... what a guy!
He's definitely got my heart Ivy!
(Thanks to two, that coon had a nice full, warm belly last night :)
.. that should have read thanks to 'you two'
I'm off and running for a while.
Happy Friday everyone.
Craig, did a fine job with the video, but was a little disappointed that he did not include my sons name, I told him that Tom was my best construction project that I have ever done...I asked him add his name if he could....
I took the bird feeder down from the deck and refilled another one at another location, alas not visible from my kitchen seat while blogging. But some of the birds seem to have memory...they are stopping by the window but seemingly perplexed that the food is not in its usual place...
...uh! I was about to type that at least my hummingbird feeder is still intact, but just at that moment I looked up and saw that it too has been dismembered! Now that is not funny!
The one-and-only baby bluebird from the first successful nesting in three years has fledged. I didn't see him leave, but he was there one day and gone the next. I would say my belts-and-suspenders approach to baffling the box was a success. Left inside, in addition to a whole lot of bird poo, is the unhatched egg. His brother sat on it the whole time and didn't squash it. Neither did he hatch it.
Now my dilemma is whether or not to clean the mess out, or leave nature to its own devices. Seems to me in the past, I didn't disturb the nest and the parents laid more eggs and raised a second brood. I don't know what they will do under these circumstances with an unhatched egg.
Home again, home again, jiggity jig.
No sign of Alli and Mr. is still alive and well, so far. Don't know what prompted a visit from Alli but with the pick up of boat traffic, he will most likely go back to the back waters.
OK Ivy, which president belongs to that house you're standing in front of?
Who is that talk show host that was married to Marla Thomas, that girl? That first pic of Flatus, from the back, looks like him.
Found the answer, Phil Donahue.
I can't believe that BP has contracted for 50 million dollars on TV PR ads and giving billions in dividends but not doing much to show effort in cleaning up their disaster.
Didn't hear how much they are spending to bribe the politicians.
I wish they would keep that dork CEO off the TV telling us what he's gonna do. It's hazzardous to my TV since something may slip outta my hand and land in the middle of my screen.
Ivy, maybe you could get a blow up Alli to put next to your bird feeder. Maybe that would discourage Rocky R. If not, it would give Hubs something else to laugh at in the middle of the night, especially if it is a surprise.
And Ivy, birds don't cotton to change. A friend of mine and I, both changed bird feeders and it took a while for the birds to have anything to do with it.
Really enjoyed watching the TM video. Thanks for linking it Carol. I watched it through 2X and loved seeing Ivy, Coreen, Solar, Tony and little owl (CT). What a good looking group we have here.
We are in Tulsa today. I am visiting with my sister. It is warm and lots more humid than NM. I don't mind as I grew up here. Our plan is to leave for Ark tomorrow to see my son and his family. Not taking any pics yet. Nothing real purty to take pics of yet.
It is supposed to get in the 100s in Alb today or tomorrow. We have lived there 7 years and has not hit 100 in all that time.
Is that you Jan? I'm feeling your presence.
Hey, it was you. I didn't see your post yet but I felt you lurking.
Coreen and Carol, although I don't follow sports, have been reading about the baseball game you are talking about. Makes reading about sports more interesting when you guys talk about it.
Ivy, got a big kick out of hearing about your pesky visitor eating all the bird food.
Jan, Coreen's got me more interested in sports also. Like Solar, I did love playing them but never watching them on TV. Now I even watch baseball and the Yankees at that. And around these parts,I gotta keep that under my hat.
Carol,
Watch the Cubs; they will never let U down, never.!
I don't expect anything from the m; and im never let down....HA.!
Jan,
Sounds like you're having a good road trip. I'm glad you can stay here and go there at the same time.
I'm happy Craig put the anniversary video up early so we can have the whole weekend to view and comment. I'll be going back over to replay myself. A beautiful collection of folks. I loved seeing Old Sea's Liberator Status sign. More meaningful after Rebellious Renee described seeing it from afar as soon as she set foot in town...she knew she had arrived! Hard to believe Sea's still fighting that battle with bureaucracy more than a year later.
Could it be that KGC solved Ivy's mystery 'white house'....She says it is 'tricky dicks'.....
By George, I Think She's Got It!
Bingo Coreen!
By George, I Think She's Got It!
Yep, she sure did. I knew it had to be one of our least favorite presidents, but I was still stumped.
KGC is a pretty smart lady...
Chloe, how did you find that pic so fast....
He was one of my considerations, but didn't follow up on it...
Carol, you watching my Yankees, makes me happy..since so many 'out-of-towners' hate my
guys...BTW they are losing tonite 6-1 to Toronto, not pleased at all....
"since so many 'out-of-towners' hate my
guys..."
You're right Coreen. I found that out Coreen.
Anyone watching the Dateline?
The second hour of Dateline is about
Amy Bishop. Remember her?
"Frank Nixon was a loud, bullying man who beat his sons and argued with anyone..."
"Splains a lot, doesn't it?
I wanted to stick with a presidential/political theme for the TM photo. My other picture choices were: me in the garden of the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library, or me and Hubs in front of the Woodrow Wilson birthplace, or Hubs 'n me next to a chunk of the Berlin Wall at the Reagan Presidential Library. The Nixon Library is by far the most intriguing of all the libraries we've toured to date. Plus it was the best photo even though it was a Bad Hair Day.
Thanks, all for playing along. I knew some sharp-eyed politico would get it sooner or later. lol
Ivy, the only close to political photo I have of me is a photo of a squirrel attacking my tennis shoe at the White House. I took it myself. I don't think I know where that pic is though.
The White House has some pretty vicious squirrels.
Carol,
I think Jimmy Carter had to smack down a wild rabbit one time...
...I may have to wrestle with a raccoon tonight, but there won't be any pix to show.
Aww, come on Ivy, be a sport. We'd love a pic of that action. You can put it in next year's video. Even though your hair looked great in this year's video, a little raccoon wrestling might poof it up a bit.
Well, I watched that Dateline about Amy Bishop. I think we pretty much had found out everything they presented tonight. We did some pretty good investigating at the time, ourselves. We're a pretty good group of Swamp detectives.
Had a nice visit with my sis and Bro in law. I had a visit with her earlier this afternoon and then we had dinner with both of them this evening. Sis and I have some biznez to take care of in the morn. Later tonight went out to the car to get something I discovered we had a flat. TG for AAA. They just changed it - it had a nail in it. John will take it to Wally world tomorrow and probably get a new one. As Gilda Radner said "Its always something." It could have been worse - we could have been out on the highway in the heat.
Carol, wish you could find that pic at the white house LOL.
Ivy, Now I must go back and look at the TM video again. I remember that your pic was in front of a white house.
Chloe, thanks for the link to all the info on pres Nixon and the Nixon library. Very interesting. I watched a special on the Frost/Nixon interview. it was so interesting and informative.
Carol, how interesting that you knew I was lurking around earlier today.
Jan, I cheated. I saw a Tulsa star flashing and that's not usually a star we have. I guessed it was you. OK. No special powers here. I can't quit my day job yet. I should be practicing on my Targ ESP trainer but I haven't.
Ivy my only trip to DC was when I went years ago with a couple of my friends. A friend of mine's little brother invented that rolling ice chest. He, his big sister, and another friend each put in $5000. I had no money at the time. We all went to DC to meet with those lawyers at one of those invention companies.
Even though it was a fancy operation, it had, you're getting screwed, reeking from everywhere and I told them that. They told me I was just being negative.
Well that rolling ice chest was a big success years later but he got no credit and they lost over $15,000. They ripped off the idea and their money but I got to see the Smithsonian and a deranged beltway squirrel so it wasn't a total loss.
It was kinda an omen for me.... that you can't trust much in Washington DC.
But they had a really clean public transit system.
"Solar, I don't think you look old so much as wise"
Bethy's got your number Solar. I agree.
Yesterday evening I saw Mr. and BBP duck on the wharf. When they left, BBP flew off north and Mr. flew off south. I thought, hmmm, they are usually moving in the same direction.
This morning, Mr and Ms are here together, just the two of them. That is the first time, in a long time, I have seen just the two of them together. I guess that should be a lesson to you men folk. If you love her, set her free and if she comes back to ya, she's yours.....
I'm having hot tamales for breakfast this morning. Left overs. Mary found this new hot tamale joint that sells hot tamales likes the ones we loved growing up. Jan, do you remember Mancuso's tamales on 3rd Ave, close to those people who sold antiques. Yep, an Italian, who made the best hot tamales in the country.
I had relatives from out of town, who traveled the country, and thought that this guy had the best hot tamales anywhere around. He died years ago but every now and again someone pops up with his recipe.
64% if Americans want the Ump's decision on the field to be reversed. Some on TM support Selig's decision to not make any changes.
I wrote on TM...
Yep, I guess you are right. Even though baseball is called America's game, just like it's mom, it's far from perfect and right fittin for the times we are now living in. Probably pretty significant symbolism, along with the fact that this young, nice immigrant is getting screwed.
The reason I have more trouble watching baseball than any other sport is because it is so slow that I have to do lots of other things to keep from falling asleep. Then while I'm busy doing other things, something exciting happens and I miss it.
Slow start this a.m.
Nice to know that your ducks are back together...mine have all left, except a few
times 1 or 2 females come in to eat, but no idea where they are staying since the wetlands
are pretty well dried up for now....
But there are 2 reservoirs & a lake within a mile...
This is the last weekend for preparation before my sister gets here. We've had a drought for months but now it's pouring. I've had over 3 inches in the last several days and some around here had 6 in one day.
Carol,
Thanks.! I have had a rough life, and it showes.....hope that I am wise by now. Physically my primary dr. at the va says that im around 50 and would be a little less if I didn't have my back condition....
I know who I am now, comfortable with the goof looking back at me, in the mirror ( just wish he would listen to me more often) and would not change anything now....on the inside of that bag of skin....is the me that knows me, when it knows me....
Gotta Solar. It's nice to have you as a friend. And I mean both, you as your own friend and me as your friend.
And Coreen I ponder...if those who feel that the call on the BB field should stick would still feel the same way if it was their favorite team or if it were their relative who accomplished this historic feat. Have you pondered this?
I think that in a way this young picture is going to be in the B. hall of fame...one way or the other....he has won already....and like his composure about it all.....he must be grown up, and not a child like most of them are....just saying....
That's what makes it extra special Solar...his composure about it all. He's a role model for all of us.
Solar, it was that smile that he flashed us when the call went against him, that smile said it all. It's etched in my memory.
Carol,
Thats right.! The smile that told the Ump....we both know the truth don't we.....but what speaks most to me...is that he did not go on to cry about it....that is special.....
he is going to be on a lot of shows from now on....he will get his 2 hrs of fame....if he becomes an excellent pitcher, and baseball player.....is cos this did not go to his head.....no, no his other head......that will be ok also.....jejeje later....Maria got U?
Hello to everyone on Carol's blog. My name is Georgia and I have been best friends with Carol for, well let's just say, since before disco was even thought of. That should give you a hint of how long we've been friends. She keeps me up on the blog and has finally got me enthused to start adding my thoughts and comments. There is really so very much going on in this world and really just in our great country to comment on so hopefully I can keep up with you guys and add some of my own thoughts. I'll just be the "new kid on the blog".... Geaux Tigers...!!!!! Oh, by the way, I'm an avid LSU fan..!!!!!
Welcome Georgia. And I want everyone to pay particular attention to Georgia's avatar. That's one of her homegrown, organic mators. Yep it is. Notice that it is bigger than her hand...
Quick hello Georgia...
Look forward to talking with you...
I have come to the conclusion that Carol is
pretty persuasive when she sets her mind to
something...and seems she was successful in
getting you to join in....
And I'm already envious of the home grown
tomatoes....
Georgia,
Welcome. You're in the right place. We're glad you're here. Keep coming back...lol
Georgia,
Are your tomatoes the heirloom kind? Heirlooms are the closest in flavor to what I remember eating growing up in Delaware and Maryland. I know GRITS (Girls Raised in the South) tend to think they have the best tomatoes, but I have to say the best summer tomatoes are grown in the Northeast. Even now, there is nothing I enjoy more when visiting "home" is a good old tomato sandwich.
Yikesss, another Pink.! Well okaaay Georgia. Can U wear a little purple once it a while? Here like this:
http://www.linktv.org/video
.....will try that again.!
http://www.linktv.org/programming
dang making a fool of myself.!
http://www.linktv.org/
I don't know Ivy. I've never tasted your hairy yankee tomatoes but they don't come better than this.
I went and got a mess of them today. It's in preparation for the visit from my sis. One slice covered my entire burger.
U will have to go to that link site,..video, world music: Gogol Bordello....song name: start wearing purple, he is out of NY....anyway, I know U were warned about me....so welcome.!
http://www.linktv.org/video/5267/world-music-gogol-bordello-start-wearing-purple
I never give up...the last one is it...
Solar, I would have to say that I might enjoy that video more after a couple of shots of vodka.
But that last link worked well.
To Solar...yes the video as Carol said was better "with a shot of vodka" and of course I am wearing my purple! To Ivy and Coreen, the tomatoes I grow are called "Celebrity" They seem to the most bug resistant and can grow pretty darn big..I planted March 16th and have been picking whoppers for about 9 days now. Carol got her some today and I hopefully will have plenty when her sis from Seattle comes mid week. Sometimes it pays to live in the good ol' south...planting times comes early.
Well excus a use me!
Pull my paw
Chloe,
"It's all in the eyes". no?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6sv-iz9tCEU&feature=related
Wanna dance?
Not doing so well with these Hyper links today:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6sv-iz9tCEU&feature=related
Hey, so you only want to dance with Chloe, Solar? I'm not busy and I like that song.
Georgia didn't know you were a guy, Solar and didn't understand your use of the term pinks. I filled her in.
Carol,
The last time I asked U, U left me on the dance floor by myself....said that U were too tired...so U.....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWCMhL5qxlE&feature=related
Georgia, Welcome aboard. Those tomatoes looked mighty good to me. I don't eat tomatoes except in the summer when I can get home grown ones. I love BLT'S. Glad to see you here.
Who says I don't?
Carol,
For U, and all of the Pinks Same she has my Spanish name....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gaUZTg4tuJI&feature=related
U all have a little piece.! nite.
OK, Now I'm wide awake and no one's here to play with. Thanks alot. Since I've been working nights, I've found the hardest part is trying to sleep nights on my days off.
If anyone has insomnia tonight, just comment and I'll be checking in all night.
CHLOOOOOEEEEE, Where are you????? Are you busy putting together some pictures of Emma for a post? Just because I'm gonna be a grandma soon doesn't mean I'm giving up my nanny status for Emma. I'm not lying when I say I look at her photo bucket pictures all the time. Give her a big hug and kiss for me.
That last video was nice Solar. I was going to ask if she was related. If she was, I don't think we would see much of you here.
Ha Mary. Glad to you visiting a little more often. I've just been trying to get myself through the news on this oil killing so much wildlife. When I let it sink in too much, everything else becomes meaningless. I'm working hard on not focusing on it though, but still, it's taken its toll. I know I have to let go and will. Gulf Oil Spill: Slick-Coated Animals Struggle And Die As 'Wildlife Apocalypse' Becomes Reality
I read a story this morning that just happened to have a very meaningful quote: "" 'Do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do,' " John Wooden's words live on in the hearts of his admirers
Glad to see you talked Georgia into becoming part of our little group Carol. I like her already.
Georgia, that beautiful tomato is HUGE. I can see that you and Carol have a green thumb in common.
Arianna says, "The BP disaster is the inevitable result of the Bush-era habit of filling regulatory agencies with industry lobbyists and cronies."
Yep, this is a good bit of the problem and I don't see that policy being changed by the current administration even though I think he did suggest he would. Unless he does, he will own this mess as much as those who created the conditions that brought it on.
I wonder if many of these Republican politicians around these parts see and hear their hypocracy regarding the government and big business. I certainly hope the voters do.
Carol,
If you Like Arianna's views, she is on abc's this week in the roundtable (already on here)...She's on with the Daily Kos Mark M, Cheney's daughter & George Will...& hate to
say it but the only reasonable one of the 4 is
George!...have to say, Arianna does a good job of talking over anyone else...& I really dislike the Daily Kos guy & Cheney's daughter...
Are these the future opinion makers for us...if
so we are certainly doomed....
Have grown weary of her over time, so while I
scan her HP, have found I agree with virtually known of the opinions there...and the comments are generally as offensive as can be imagined...I knowDylan posts there but mostly I don't agree with her & the views presented...
When you mentioned what Arianna said, Carol, I decided to go back to read it all. Every word she said is so right on (esp. this: "What we have now isn't free market capitalism, it's corrupt third world cronyism. "), that I decided to quote the whole paragraph (since it's not very long):
Sunday Roundup
"Isn't it interesting how so many Gulf state Republicans are anti-big government -- until they need its help? It's "big government for me, but not for thee." You know what they say: a Republican is just a Democrat who hasn't been the victim of a catastrophic oil spill yet. The BP disaster is the inevitable result of the Bush-era habit of filling regulatory agencies with industry lobbyists and cronies. So this is a teachable moment. Just as Reagan put forth his grand, unifying theory that government is the problem, not the solution, Obama needs to seize this opportunity to reframe the debate and show how Corporations Gone Wild are the real problem. What we have now isn't free market capitalism, it's corrupt third world cronyism. Tony Hayward would like his life back. Well, Americans would like our democracy back."
Yes, I agree with everyone here, both sides of the arguement. You have to be very choicy when you read Huff Post. I'm still mad at her for being such a big Obama fan and dissing Hillary. Hey guys, those guys, why don't you admit you were wrong but responsible for what we now have, someone who doesn't have the guts to make the needed changes. But does anyone???
I didn't like her either during that election, and have not read her since, I normally don't go to the Huffington Post unless a subject search leads me there. But on this corporation thing, she's right.
I've been busting butt to try and knock the top layer of dirt off of things before my sister gets here. She better be prepared to live camping style because there's not enough of me to get everything that needs to be done, done.
It is hot and humid outside. Just miserable for working out there and it has been since early this morning. All the rain has given it a steambath kind of feeling.
Arianna does have some good things to say. She wrote that book, Pigs at the Trough, about "How Corporate Greed and Political Corruption Are Undermining America". I haven't read it because we already know that.
Beyond the Gulf disaster (which only seems to get worse) there are other crucial unresovled
issues facing us (though still not convinced the damage done by the oil leak is correctable
in our lifetimes...we may not have to worry about the future, if the oil doesn't stop leaking)
Here's a good, easy to understand analysis of the pending financial industry reform bills by
Joe Nocera NYT (he always gives straight forward analysis w/o noticeable bias either way)
"Will the bill that emerges from this conference do what it is intended to do?
Will it prevent another crisis?
Will it put an end to govt bailouts?
The painful answer is: probably not....."
A dubious way to prevent fiscal crisis
We don't have anyway of proving that Hillary would have done a better job but I do believe that if she could have become America's first female president, she would have wanted her legacy to reflect her best effort to make things better. And that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
I know Hillary, with Bills help, would have made a wonderful President. But that's history now.
We need more women in power. Period.
As far as I'm concerned, there's no way that we've broken this cycle of destruction, with the change of guard in the last election.
Hello all....wow Chloe what a post. I so agree with all you wrote on the Sunday roundup. I'm sure all the gulf coast feels the same as well. As for the tomato, I have 64 on my table about the same size along with about 45 cucumbers, bell peppers and jalapenos. Thank God for bacon and Miracle Whip..!!Everyone have a great Sunday...My Tigers lost to UCLA last night so we are now in the losers bracket and play Cal Irvine at 4 today. Guess I'll head out to the humidity steambath and cut the grass..... St Augustine grass in La. with copious rain and you can almost hear it growing...
I haven't wanted to mention it because I didn't want to be, or encourage, any negativity but so many of the Psychics have predicted a very chaotic June and July this year. But it seems that there will be some sort of transition after that.
No matter how bad thing get, our politicians just don't get it and it seems the Universe is rubbing all of our collective faces in it to insist that we make some serious changes before it is too late! How much more horrible can things get!
IT IS ALL THE RESULT OF CORPORATE GREED AND POLITICAL CORRUPTION.
Yes, I'm yelling. They should round up all the bad guys, corporate and political, stick them in a tent on Grand Isle, La. and let them watch the wildlife die while the oil and the skitters get them.
By the way...hey to Mary....Heard you couldn't figure out who "Georgia" was....It's my pseudonym LOL...Hope you are doing well.
Chloe....Did Carol tell you Bill Clinton came here campaigning for Hillary and we were about 40 feet from him? I put all my Republican neighbors in shock with my "Hillary for president" sign in my yard.
Although...she is a great Sec. of State..!!!
Not to mention that I had to wear body armour when I wore my, Hillary, Madame President t-shirt, especially when I walked down redneck lane. But I do wear it proudly.... now, mostly to bed.
Hey, I only kid my redneck friends and neighbors. I really love them....
I really think that all the politicians who have recieved political contributions from all these oil and oil related companies should cough up those contributions to help clean up this mess. They should also be out there helping to clean it up also because they are responsible. While all the little people are losing their livihoods, those politicians are still racking it in.
Why doesn't Obama bring the wife and kids down to our coast. Heaven forbid they would have to look at it, up close and personal. Milia might ask the hard questions like, daddy what are you doing about this? Or, help those birdies, daddy.
And daddy would respond, "honey, I'm working on it, quietly behind the scenes".
"Did Carol tell you Bill Clinton came here campaigning for Hillary and we were about 40 feet from him?"
No, I don't remember Carol ever mentioning that Georgia. But things were so crazy at TrailMix back then, I may have missed it. Seeing Bill must have been great.
"It's all in the eyes". no? "
Hi Solar, I missed this from last night - 'glad you stopped by to say hello'.
Yep, you'd better believe it's all in the eyes - at least everything I need to know is.
... did you recognize those lyrics?
Hey guys, what Corporation was it that made that movie trying to destroy Hillary when she was running in the primaries, the one that won the recent Supremes decision. That should be the biggest hint there could ever be. If big Corps hate Hillary, everyone of us should love her. (I know we all do)
All political contributions should be published in as many places as possible. Anyone getting tons of them should be people we all avoid like the plague. Because they are the plague.
And I am referring to contributions from big business or large groups working for them.
Carol, its an organization called Citizens United...don't have any idea who funds it, but
the guy who started it is vehemently anti-Clinton....pretty sure he wrote an anti-clinton
book...his name is David Bosse....
Just was looking at TM...a pretty amazing
development re: Helen Thomas...as a result of
her obnoxious anti-semetic comments about Israel, Jews, seems Craig's agent has cut ties
with her & Craig will not be associated with her any longer.....a pretty surprising turn of events....
It will be interesting to see whether the Drudge Report that exposed her comments & has been keeping it as a headline will result in any sanctions by Hearst, Thomas employer or not...There is an interesting article at Politico with regard to Helen Thomas' anti semetic comments & how the d.c. press 'family'
is responding, so far...
Here's the Politico piece about Thomas...
Will be interesting to see if Hearst keeps her
on or in order for all to save face...she could just 'retire' & no longer go to any more WH press meetings...
Helen Thomas under fire for Israel remarks
Rummaging around found this little stroll through memory lane....Was just about a teenager but I remember....didn't everyone want to go to Ft. Lauderdale after this movie.....
It was 50 years ago that the movie 'Where
the Boys are" came out....& Connie Francis
sang the title song...in Fort Lauderdale
there was a 'celebration for its 50th birthday'...& Connie Francis was there, complete with pics....
And the warm & humids are here too...thunderstorms all around through the evening....
Connie Francis Where the Boys Are
50 yars later
I do remember that movie, fondly, Coreen.
I need a bigger bag of corn!
Remember them babies? They found me.
I wonder if they are all hens or does it take some time for the boys to dress out in their colors. If they are all girls, BBP will be in duck heaven. BTW, he's back and tried to hit on one of these young things.
I think it is very sad about Helen Thomas. She was a good and brave journalist for many, many years. It's sad that she will end her career this way. I do think her age is mostly responsible for her lapse in judgement.
My mom said some pretty nasty things in her last years that I did not think really reflected what was in her heart. Old age ain't for sissies.
Tonight's C2C looks pretty interesting:
"George Noory welcomes astrophysicist and author Dr. Bernard Haisch, who'll discuss his theory that the universe is a product of an intelligence, and show how this is supported by recent astrophysical findings."
The God Theory
It comes on too late tonight but I can check it out tomorrow night.
Tonight I'll be listening to last nights program on the Afterlife.
"Ian Punnett was joined by Newsweek senior editor, Lisa Miller, who discussed the existence of the afterlife, and the various cultural perceptions of what heaven could possibly be."
I'm always curious as to what I have to look forward to.
Hi folks, just checking in. I am down in South Ark. close to Texarkana visiting son, DIL and 2 G daughters. It is hot and humid here. I am missing getting a walk outside, but did use exercise equipment here in motel. We will leave here early in morn and head back to Tulsa to take care of some business and then point the auto to home in NM. I am ready.
Welcome Georgia. The tomato is beautiful - makes my mouth water for a tomato sandwich with some provolone and mayo.
I have not kept up with the news for a few days. Have not seen the news yet about Helen Thomas. Too bad.
Will check back in either tomorrow night or the next.
Driving back to Arkadelphia from Hot Springs AR tonight (about 30 miles) down a dark and winding 2 lane highway, lightning lit up the sky - must have been far away as I heard no thunder. It was beautiful. I have missed seeing this spectacle in Albuq.
Carol, love the pic of the ducks.
Jan, Are you saying Albuq. doesn't have thunderstorms? Move over, I'm coming. I hate thunderstorms. I don't mind rain but those cloud to ground lightening strikes I could do without. In the summer we get them almost every afternoon.
Yes Jan, those light shows can be spectacular.
Last night I was fast asleep before they got to the good stuff on C2C so I'm still in the dark about Heaven. Night shift workers who can listen to the radio have the advantage of being able to hear this program.
Georgia, I heard you didn't know who I was either. By the way, next time Carol goes over there, would you pleeeeease send a tomato with her for me. They look so tasty.
Countdown to sister visit. I've already got a plan for her first full day. I want to head down south, get some shrimp, lots of it. Put up as much as possible. Sis loves it also. We'll have to eat lots of it cuz it may not be around soon.
We can walk the Creole Nature Trail. There's a long, nice walkway through the swamp. Lots of birds and other critters. Occasionally will see a gator. Then down to the Gulf to tell it we are all pulling for it.
Since we get the sediment from the Mississippi River, our water and beaches have never been pristine here.
MCG had all her wisdom teeth pulled today. I'm sure she will be sleeping a lot for the next couple days. I was dreading this, but we'll get through it.
Carol,
Did your sister used to live in Louisiana as do you and Mary? Have you ever told us the story of her relocating to the PNW?

Finally, the right one.....that is going to be a great series that start this wed.p.m.!!!
OK Solar, I got it on my Iphony calendar. I'll record it. I really will.
Ivy, my older sister was born and raised here. She left at age 20 or 21 to go to grad school and only came back for a year or so about 10 years later.
I see Helen Thomas is retiring. Sorry she had to go out like this. I still love her. I think we all harbor some hateful thoughts that we usually keep in check. If I'm still around at age 89, I'm gonna have lots of hateful thoughts, if I can still think. But I don't want to be around at age 89.
Does anyone have a mother or grandmother, who lived to be kinda old, that never muttered a hateful thought? Please raise you right hand and then put that individual in for sainthood.
I'm sure glad my family was never caught on TV but I really did think about putting my fly in for a reality show during our really trying times. I think it would have been a hit, but those of us who are still here would have had to move to some remote island.
Georgia called today with a shrimp update. She found some 20-21 count shrimp for $3.50 lb. Yummm. That's one of the pluses of living here, at least for now.
Gas well explosion in Granbury Texas. Darn.
Carol,
I've decided not to comment on or discuss Helen Thomas, except to say the entire incident and its repercussions for everyone including her made me sad today. But thank you for a thoughtful question.
With one or two exceptions, my family always had remarkably tolerant attitudes. I have one uncle (by marriage) who is a dyed-in-the-wool bigot, but we always laughed at his attitudes like he was someone from another planet. I can truthfully report I never heard my Grandmother utter a hateful word toward any racial or ethnic group. Her husband, my grandfather, was a German immigrant and a Catholic (she was Presbyterian.) I wonder if living through WWII as the wife of "the enemy" taught her not to paint individual people with the broad brush of their native land or culture? Also, if you remember me telling, my grandmother and I would sit for lunch together at the kitchen table with her AA housekeeper. The only remarkable thing about it to me was we all shared the same first name.
That is not to say my grandmother did not have a wicked sense of humor. As a woman who was as big around as she was tall, her jokes often centered around herself as the "butt." From her, I learned the value of the self-deprecating style of humor.
Mary, we do have some thunderstorms in Alb but not often. We get rain in July and Aug. in the late afternoons. I always loved thunderstorms and have missed them.
My grandmother (paternal) could be very hateful to people and not just when she was older. She lived to be 89. My mother's mother was very gentle and kind. She had a severe hearing disorder which greatly affected her speech. I think she had an illness as a young child that caused it. She never wore a hearing aid but could easily understand you if she was looking at your face. She also lived to be 89. So I don't know what I will be like as an octogenarian.
My mother would die before she said anything to hurt someone's feelings and my dad was just the opposite.
Ivy, I hope MCG is doing ok.
I never had my wisdom teeth out. I had some back teeth pulled as a young child and the wisdom teeth grew in and pushed the other teeth to fill in the spaces. They look ok but my teeth look very strange on X Ray. But hey they work just fine, and glad to have them.
We are on our way home. We are spending the night in Weatherford OK, in Western OK, close to the TX border. We will be home about 3 pm tomorrow. We are taking 12 y/o granddaughter home with us. She is a good age and lots of fun. We are getting reacquainted with her. This is the 4th summer in about 6 summers that she is visiting with us. Her thing is drama. She has been in 2 class plays at school and sounds like she has found her calling. John and I are not surprised by this.
Carol, you sound so excited and happy about big sis's visit. Your plans sound great and like a lot of fun. I think you said she gets there on 6/9?? Tell her "hi" for me. The skiing trip that the 3 of us took together is one I will always remember - it was such fun. The lodge we stayed in was great. I remember the meals were amazing. I seem to remember we watched some films at night. And of course, there was the mouse.
Carol,
What did your sister love about the PNW that kept her there for most of her life? (Maybe I don't want to know. lol)
Hey Ivy, I'm not talking specifically about prejudice types of comments by old people, I was talking mean or hateful. Hell, mom's were usually about one of us.
Jan,
Glad you're having a good trip and a good visit with your grand-daughter.
Carol,
I'm not sure I see the distinction between mean-spiritedness to a group or class, or an individual person. Maybe behind-their-back versus to-their-face? A put-down is a put-down.
Ivy, I think my sister most likes the philosophy of those in the areas where she has lived. I don't think she's crazy about the climate.
She doesn't care for the cold and rain up there and she thinks that she will welcome the heat we are having. I told her it wouldn't take her very long to get sick and tired of it. It was terribly hot and humid here today, when it wasn't raining.
Last time she was here she did mention how nice people where here. Down here you can strike up a conversation with someone in the grocery line without them thinking your some kind of perv.
Ivy, did they pull out MCG's teeth or did they have to cut them out?
That's funny, Carol. MCG can't wait for the cool weather. She says she doesn't think she can take another Alabama summer. She will have to get through at least this one, though. I just bought her a pair of rain galoshes. lol
I will ask her about the teeth extraction when she wakes up next time. She may not know since she was completely knocked out. Since they were impacted below the gum-line, I would assume, they cut and then pulled.
On Saturday evening, we went out for dinner. While in the ladies room, MCG saw a little girl crying over her front tooth that her mom was trying to coax out. She said I think I'll know how you feel.
You were very fortunate Ivy. I used to dream that I lived and came from a very loving family.
Many going after Helen are just as mean and intolerant and don't have being 89 as an excuse.
Ivy, summers up in the PNW are the bomb. It's like our nicest Spring days. It's the winters that aren't so good. Up north you also have the long days in the Summer and the very short days in the Winter.
When my sister left here, she went to Colorado. She was there for a while before heading to Washington. She came back to Colorado for a year or so and then went back to Washington.
When I went to visit up in the PNW, in the summer, I always brought and often wore a jacket and blue jeans. Everyone else was in short sleaves and shorts.
Average rainfall total in Birmingham is 52 inches. Average rainfall total in Portland is 37 inches, more in Winter. Number of precipitation days in Portland is 152.
It's not the amount of rain up there but the frequency. They don't have the frog stranglers we have down here.
New Ice Age begins in 2014. C2C. Darn Chloe, you know how much we hate the cold.
I just watched last night's Colbert Report. If you need a little catharsis over this BP situation try to catch today's rerun of last nights show. It comes on Comedy Central several times during the day.
Colbert acted out a little drama to demonstrate what Obama should do to the BP CEO. It did make me feel good. I got some mean in me also.
Oh, the drama around here. My little duckies are here this morning and there was a young gator close to the bank, lying in wait. Fortunately the duckies saw it and were standing back from the bank watching it. At first I wasn't sure if it was a small log or a gator but it was a gator.
"New Ice Age begins in 2014. C2C. Darn Chloe, you know how much we hate the cold."
LOL Carol. You've got my number.
... C2C makes life so much more interesting. I may have to start listening to it one of these days.
.. those gators would scare the hell out of me Carol. I actually think they're beautiful creatures, but it just scare's me thinking about all the little animals they eat. I'd be a nervous wreck when one of them are around.
- 'is' around.
Ha! All my errors piss me off.
Ivy, I was surprised to hear how much rainfall you have in Alabama. That's even considerably more than our average. It must be really beautiful there - I love rain so much.
Jan, guess you'll be home shortly. Sounds like things went smoothly along your little road trip. Nice you could bring your little granddaughter home with you - I bet she'll keep you busy for a while.. Let us know how it's going.
