What I did on my spring vacation
Been working since about 6:30 this morning. Having fun playing with my toys to clean my yard. Last pic: I'm afraid that old tree that fell out of my neighbor's lot will need a chain saw... and not my little recipicating saw..to cut up. I haven't used it since Rita..2005..so I'm sure it will need some work before it will function. I wonder if I can get it to work?? Won't know until I try.
Campsis radicans..Trumpet vine. Hummers love them.
Danger..danger..Will Robinson. This is a mega red ant hill. Step in it and learn a new dance step.
My Satsuma bushes are loaded down. What's weird is that this one is about the size I'd see about August. It's only April. Will I get early fruit or will this be as big as a cantaloupe??

Well..just got back from camp where I fed all my critters and picked up my chain saw. Now to jump in the shower to clean up and go take TW to lunch.
Did I even mention that I was ever worried that I might be bored if I wasn't working??
Well..off to lunch with my friend. She chose seafood. I'm afraid I've seen a little too much food on my vacation. I don't think the gummy worms helped either. I'm trying to work it off.
After lunch and some tooling around..then back to playing in the yard.
Question: What's better than fried shrimp, fried oysters, french fries, onion rings and homemade rolls? Drum roll.......
Answer: Your best friend picks up the check...!!! Thanks Carol again for lunch!
Well...TW learned a new skill today. Believe me..this was an accomplishment. She's proud. She figured out how to use her little camera on her cell phone. It only took one trip to the ATT office. She texted it to me and I added it to the last blog. It's a current pic of her little tomato plants. And she did it almost all by herself. I put the pic between the pic of the plants right after she planted this year and the pics of the tomato plants from last year.
I'm pooped. I came home and went back into girl scout mode. I smell like a bon fire..maybe worse. This yard hasn't seen this much activity since I was a much younger girl. It was fun. Maybe I worked off some of those gummy worms. Maybe not.
I see that your governor signed a law to repeal the death penalty
Coreen. Good for him.
Let killers stay in prison and think about it. Shouldn't hurry up their recycle process.
Looked at the MLB standings. Your division has a 4 way tie for 1st.
Georgia, a menu from heaven! yum. Gettin hungry.
Just another reason to not vote for Malloy next time...
His approval is at its lowest...he raised taxes, retroactively, let the teacher tenure reform wither after a lot of huffing & puffing & empty threats, just as
he did when negotiating with the unoins, which resulted in guarantee of no layoffs for years & little reform, yet the deficit remains...
He is not winning over voters....&
if those slugs who killed the Petit
family & were sentenced to death, somehow get their sentence remanded because of this (though the legislators who pushed this repeal, swear that it does not apply to those on death row) he & his dem. cohorts who pushed it will lose the next time around...
And the pitcher the Yankees brought over from Seattle is out for the season & then some...needs
surgery for a shoulder tear...he wa supposed to be the #2 starter...
We need Andy...
Oh & no way do you get to burn stuff outside here...can't even
burn a pile of autumn leaves ...not for years...
I love to have a bon fire. We only have burn bans if it's dry. Maybe in the city limits.
I didn't know you were a death penalty advocate. Remember what your friend said?? He was right.
Not that it matters..but are there any issues where you lean liberal?
I consider myself a fiscal conservative but not necessarily in the same way that those who call themselves conservative are.
I believe that death is too good for really evil people. Gets them off the hook. I'd rather be dead than stuck in a small cell for the rest of my life. That would be worse than death.
And it's much more expensive to execute than to keep them in a cell due to all the appeals. Lots of research to prove that.
And in rare cases...there are mistakes..juries are human. Not the case you are referring to though.
There have been people executed in Texas who were innocent. They love to kill them there.
Life's been pretty tough on your Yankee pitchers. You may have to start warming up your arm.
Was it the governor or the attorney general in Illinois who got the death penalty reversed there? I remember hearing the guy on TV a good while back. He gave a passionate argument against it. He sold me. I think the final straw may have been when an innocent person was executed.
Your governor probably couldn't sleep at night thinking that he was the one who had to be the last to say kill them. I couldn't do it either.
Here is a list of exonerated death row inmates. Some were done post posthumously.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_exonerated_death_row_inmates
What do we do about that old commandment..."thou shall not kill"? I take it seriously. I couldn't go to war either.
Now if someone came after me and I had a gun..I might shoot..cuz there's no commandment that says..thou shall not shoot their arm off. I wouldn't shoot to kill.
So much for my attempt to fix the chain saw. They have these little thingies where you push on this rubber bubble to prime the motor. I pushed..it cracked. It was dry rotted from not having been used in all those years. I guess I'll have to find someone to fix it.
You can get off the soap box now...it is not convincing in any manner...
I don't use the word lib or progressive to describe my views...
likely more of a libertarian...don't tread on me...
You think you are a dem & are fiscally conservative...guess what
does not compute...try again...& like it or not Buddy does not espouse democratic &/or liberatl
views...his views are those of
establishment repubs for the most part...certainly not dems...
Northeastern republicans considered themselves fiscally conservative & socially liberal...and while some of them may still hold control of their party, the socially conservative southern types are doing their best to assume control...just haven't quite succeeded yet...
Coreen...my little fire wasn't nuttin. If you look right past it...across the field next door. That's where that industry is..the one that was releasing that deadly hydrogen sulfide.
There are some issues that I lean way right on. You may have figured them out. Maybe not.
I agree with Buddy on:
Fair trade.
Flat tax starting at $50000.
We need banking reform.
Campaign finance reform.
As far as most of the social issues..he thinks that most are not any of his business to control. I like that attitude.
Even though I believe in pro choice..I could never even consider an abortion and I think they should be discouraged.
I'm all for gay marriage..but I think that civil unions would be OK..but the spouse should have the same legal rights as any married couple. I think of marriage as more of a "religious" thing. We can't govern that.
And I don't believe in the death penalty on any grounds.
And I don't want to convince anyone else what they should believe. Just want to express mine.
When I debate..it's not to change anyone else's mind..it's to just support how I believe. If I can't support it..I might not be as committed to the belief as I think I am.
I guess I may be far right when it comes to certain aspects of welfare. No one appreciates what they get for nothing and they often abuse it. I've worked in several areas where I've seen all of the above.
I don't think doing nothing should have advantages over someone working in a low paying job.
But I haven't come up with any good ways to fix that mess.
But I have pondered it!
Sorry..not a good night for your Yanks Coreen. What happened?
Carol, did you watch Idol?
Carol, have you used your chain saw yet? Be careful with that thing. Years ago when Terry was about 28 or so he was using a chain saw when he had a place out in the country here in NM. It slipped and cut his leg pretty deep. He put a pressure bandage on it and drove himself to the ER. I guess he was lucky he didn't cut an artery.
I did vote for my favorites tonight - Joshua, Jessica and Elissa. At this point they are all so good I hate to see anyone go home.
I was returning some emails Jan so I didn't really pay much attention to it. They are all so good. I guess I should be voting for my home boy but I just can't get into that tonight.
I want them all to win and I think they will in some way or another.
Hi Carol, well I just hope that Joshua does not get cut because one of his homies was too busy to vote for him.
I just went to a site that made predictions about Idol and they were breaking down characteristics of voters - I fall into the "tech savey grandmothers with time on her hands.' Had a good laugh at that.
I usually do but something had me distressed tonight. Actually first time since vacay started. Trying to regroup and get back into my happy place. It's been a nice place to be.
And Jan..if Joshua goes home..I'll feel so bad that I didn't sit there and try to type those letters in there 50 times. I think I did it at least that many times last week.
Tell me the truth...cross your heart..how many times do you actually vote? Fifty??
Our local Fox channel is pulling for him big time. They had a big viewing and voting party. I should be ashamed. But the kid will go places. He's already made a name for himself. We know that they don't have to win that contest to make it out there. Look at Jennifer Hudson.
It might even be better if they don't win. That may tie them up longer. I know that they think they need to. Since they are all sooo good..I'm leaving it up the everyone else.
Since I wasn't paying attention..TW told me that the kid booted last week is a Christian rock singer. I've heard some of that music before. It's pretty cool music. If you don't listen to the words..you'd think it was regular rock music..except that the lyrics are telling you to love the Lord..rather than the girl across the street.
As much fun as I'm having playing with my yard equipment right now..in the cooler weather..this yard is a monster to keep up. A monster I'm telling you.
It took me about 30 something years to create it. I kept adding this and that. I never thought that one day I would get old. You just don't think about that when you're young.
My yard at the camp is old lady compatible. The back yard does require some week wacking with my mighty Sear's wack it down.. because you can't drive a lawnmower back there.. but it's manageable.
It may one day require that I bull doze everything into the swimming pool and bury it.
I planted this little fan palm years ago. It turned into a monster. I've been wacking at it for weeks now. I think I've finally made a dent in it.
But..at least I've finally learned my lesson. For the last several years..I've kept it to a bare minimum. I get only a few plants that I pot. Yesterday..I did buy one little hanging basket at Lowes. It's a little purslane and it was cheap.
I just have this uncontrollable desire to work the soil at this time of year. Might be some Indian in my DNA.
When mom was alive..I often planted her a garden. They had this area that was fenced off. I bet it was every bit of 100 ft by 50 ft. I'd get out there with my mini tiller and a shovel and work up almost all the soil and plant this huge garden. Mom and Pa were both very impressed with me.
It looked beautiful until the heat got here. Then the weeds took over and I wasn't out there to keep it up anyway. One year I even buried that sucker in tons of Oak leaves. More work. There must have been at least a 6-8 inch mulch. Didn't matter..our southern weeds laughed at that. I'll just never understand why God made weeds so indestructible.
The heat..drought..blistering cold..will kill everything else but those weeds are basking in it. I used to be so opposed to using Round Up. Now I walk around with my sprayer saying..."take that you sucker". Round Up is the only thing that makes this yard even close to being manageable.
Miracle..upon miracles. I just got a call from someone who works for the company who supplies the medical personnel to the hospital. My employer.
I know this guy and he is a 10 when it comes to guys/people. I met him some years back when I was doing some part time work down the road. That was when mom was dying and I couldn't work full time.
He is sooo nice..and soooo handsome. He is an Elvis impersonator. The first time I met him I thought..he looks exactly like Elvis. I didn't know he did that on the side.
He's also one of those overachievers. He called to tell me that I could come back a week and then get my other two weeks off. Yes! I said that sounded good to me. We will be getting together when I go back.
Carol, your yard does sound like a monster.
A very profound statement - that when we are planting while young we do not take into account that we must maintain those plantings when old. That can apply to many things. I did not know when I was younger and so eager to have so much stuff that it would be so difficult to maintain now that I am old. I am really working now on downsizing stuff.
Carol, is this guy that is promising you the 2 weeks off if you go back for a week able to deliver on that promise? I sure hope so.
As for the Idol voting, I do vote and then when I get tired I quit.
I don't sweat or promise anyone - anything any longer. I not only am cutting down on stuff I am also cutting down on commitments. It is ok to say "NO" in fact it is not only ok to say NO it is best for our health to say NO a lot.
John has a lot harder time saying NO than I do. He will say "YES" to people and then go through this God awful stress because he does not want to do what he said he would do. I am working on him to help him with that.
I meant "I don't swear or promis...
I am taking the morning off. Went swimming for first time in weeks. It felt good - I will see how the right arm feels later. I still have not heard about what the MRI showed. I do think the shoulder/arm is better.
Jan..I've been doing some deep pondering with my yard work. I'm closer to God out there.
I do recognize that all my problems are of MY making. I let people manipulate me..even when I'm well aware that they are doing it. There are probably multiple reasons for it..some good..some not so good.
Mom recognized that weakness from the get go. That's why I was the one she designated to live out her dream. And she continued getting me to be her little goofer. Just about anyone who is around me for long starts to recognize it. I might as well have sucker tattoed on my forehead.
And let me tell you..when you are a martyr..no one appreciates it or respects it. I understand that also. Who can respect someone who has no self respect.
I have a lot of teachers right now. I don't think they even realize they are my teachers.
And one of the bad reasons I've gotten to the place I'm at is because I worry too much about outcomes. And I can't control that anyway. I just need to let go and let God...
And Jan..one of the tests..was letting go of the need to help select who would get the boot on Idol. And see you were fussing at me about it.
Ok Carol, no more fussing about voting on Idol. I do care about who carries on - on Idol so I do vote but you are much better than me when you vote because you do the max. I just vote till I am tired.
I don't vote on DWTS - although I like the show, I really don't care who gets "booted" off. They are stars anyway and so it does not matter in their lives - truly = if they go home early. For the kids on Idol, it does matter. Although at this point, they have had enough exposure that they will probably all get recording contracts.
BTW, I am not fussing at you at all. Like you, I like to tease sometimes.
Carol, going to make a home visit in a short while to a young woman in our program who is pregnant and has high BP. I just want to check on her and see how she is doing.
So, did I read right here. You are going back to work for one week and then get 2 weeks off????
I just read on the net news that Hillary Clinton is the most popular politician in the country now. Her approval ratings are 75%.
Carol, do you ever watch "Do you want to be a millionaire?" It is on here at 11:30 am on one of the major networks. John watches it every day. I now have him tape it so I can watch it too. Meredith Viera is the host. It is fun. I guess we are officially old people now as we like to watch the game shows. I remember when I was younger, old people watched these. LOL
I do agree with you, I too feel closer to God when I am outside.
Jan..outside..I get a couple more God bars..better reception.
I do not like this part of Idol. I really don't have a single fav. They are each unique. I like them all and will be disappointed no matter who leaves.
And Jan..if I had to vote..I think I'd have to spread my votes around evenly so that would void out my vote. Just because Joshua lives down the road..doesn't really make me want to vote for him more..I like him the same as the others.
Jan..I'm not into game show yet. Never really cared for them before. You sure that's one of the side effects of getting older? I think I'd rather pick up cross word puzzles. Really don't care for them either.
Maybe it has something to do with participating in an activity to exercise our brains. It's not only our bodies that we have to work hard to keep limber..we have to do the same with our brains.
I'll start scanning my environment to see what I can use to exercise the brain...that I enjoy doing. Have any other suggestions?? I like Sudoku but it bores me after a while.
Well..you can tell the teeny boppers voted last night.
Can't say I'm surprised with who got the boot. Didn't expect this one to go all the way anyway but I did like her a lot.
Jan..I haven't been watching this show for that long. When and who was the last female who won? I bet there are far more young girls voting than boys voting. I think that would give the guys a decided advantage.
Just Googled it. The last female who won AI was Jordin Sparks..in 2007. I rest my case.
Just heard that Jane Fonda will be playing Nancy Reagan in an upcoming movie. Kinda ironic. The right wing will have a conniption with that one. But... I was thinking..since Nancy is from the Hollywood culture..she may think it's a good idea. Jane does bare a resemblance to her.
I really think Nancy wouldn't be concerned with what Jane said years ago when she was young and idealistic.
Yes, I read that recently that about Jordan Sparks. I hated to see Elise go too. I feel certain she will have a recording contract. She is a great singer. I suspect it will be Phillip who will win. Did year hear last night that Ryan Seacrest's girlfriend who is Julianne Hough (Derek's sister from DWTS) sighed real big when Phillip walked past her. Ryan said something about it on the show. Julianne was there last night. So I think it will be not only the teeny bopper girls who will be voting for him. I like him a lot but I like Jessica and Joshua more so I will continue to vote for them.
that will be most interesting if Jane Fonda plays Nancy R. I would bet so many rupubs will throw a fit. I love it! That is what I call "poetic justice."
I have read that playing bridge and chess is a way to keep one's brain active.
I am just amazed at how Jimmy is right on target with most of the singers. He wasn't with Phillip tonight though. Its the young women's vote. They are voting for looks and who they like rather than the best singer.
I bet LC and Westlake are getting behind Joshua. The smaller town kids do very well. It was a young man from Conway AR (town of about 50,000) 20 miles from Little Rock who beat Adam ??? who was really expected to win.
Chess would be nice. Do you think I can teach Maggie to play? Better come up with a solitary game idea. Work..right now.. exercises the hell out of my brain but I'll need something else when that's over. Keep thinking of ideas.
I have plenty of things to keep the body working.
Tonight..close to 10p..I started doing housework and having fun doing it. I can't believe it. I dusted and waxed..swept and mopped..washed clothes..folded AND put away.
I have really enjoyed my vacay. Wouldn't have thought I would have ever liked a staycation but the last time I really had one was when I was teaching. We had breaks between semester then when I didn't go anywhere. That was probably close to 25-30 years ago. But for most of my semester breaks..I worked at the hospital..or on the farm..doing my garden marathon or helping Pa.
One thing that makes it particularly nice is the great weather. This wouldn't have worked in the winter or the summer. Summers here are unbearable. Even early in the morning..the humidity is oppressive. You wait until evening..the mosquitoes can chase you back in. Yep..my I can't stand another minute..came at a great time. Thank you Universe.
And I'm really enjoying being at home. I'm enjoying working on this place. My hands and my legs are sore from all the work but I don't mind. When I went out to the camp yesterday..I had trouble coming down the stairs..it killed one of my knees. I could barely make it down the steps but didn't notice that pain except coming down the stairs.
I still can't walk normal. Kinda wonder if I ever will again. Mainly what it does is slow me down but when ya have fragile bones..ya need to slow down and be careful anyway.
Not having my brain drained from work has allowed me to do some serious pondering of my life. I'm gonna ponder..that's a given..but sometimes ya just don't have much energy left to do any deep soul searching pondering. I finally got that time. It turns out that yard work and soul searching pondering go really well together.
Looking in ain't always pretty. Ya got to look past the projections..the rationalizations..the denials and all the other defense mechanisms we all often employ to explain our behavior. Not everyone is capable of doing that...I am...even when what I find ain't pretty.
I have come to the realization that in ALL aspects of my life I've let others use and abuse me. I may have started it because I thought I could do a better job...that's ego. That's probably one of the biggest reasons. Often..it was because I just wasn't as good a manipulator as everyone else was. Another is because I am approval seeking.
But one bad thing is that when I ended up doing something I didn't want to do..I whined and complained so much that it negated any of that approval seeking and didn't do much for my ego either. No one likes a whiner.
Well..I've now decided it's time to change some of my unhealthy behaviors. I'm now going to start insisting that others meet me half way or at least get closer to half way... even if I have to lose everything to get there.
Well..at least I'll still have my Maggie. Let me tell you..she even pulls the same shit on me. When we're out walking...she wants to go one way and I want her to go the other. She wants to poop in someone else's yard. She looks at me and puts on the brakes. She even thinks she's in control of me. I laugh at her little ass and tell her..sorry little sister..I'm bigger than you are and I drag her my way. She wears a harness so it doesn't yank on her neck. I do give her an opportunity to do what she wants.
Carol, I think that really serious looking inside oneself soul searching that you are doing now comes more easily when a big life "transition" comes around like the death of someone we love or have been real close to and also comes with retiring or losing a job or something like that. The dream work I am doing helps that process along as it gets to stuff in my unconscious that maybe I don't want to look at. I did a lot of what you are doing now when I first moved to LR and then again recently when my dad died and now with retirement. I know I am working part time but it is really different. What is going on with me now is a full-up realization that life is very limited now. Don't know how much time I have but it makes me look at things differently.
Yes, all those defenses and rationalizations we are used to using begin to come down at this time in our lives when we take the time to just be with ourselves.
I don't agree that that gets better when we get older. It can. But in some it actually gets worse. Some prefer to hold on to their unhealthy habits no matter who it bothers. And when we get older..we stop caring so much about what other people think of us . I've always cared but now I'll only do it if there is also something in it for me.
I'm adding new pics to my post. Check them out.
Maggie thinks she's died and gone to heaven. Maybe we both have. And if so..it's good to know your fur babies go with you.
Maggie gets to take truck trips if I'm going somewhere and don't have to get out for long or if I go to the camp..which I do several times each day. I've got all my critters there to feed and my plants to water.
My yard there needs mowing so I'll go today to do that. I think we'll also go camping...like we used to when I lived here before. I still love it there also. So little distance apart but an entirely different ambiance.
I even have different birds between the two places. Some are the same but I rarely have Blue Jays or Mockingbirds there. Never seen a Mockingbird there.
Several different things in the news that I would like to hear your take on...No serious controversy here Jan. I hope.
One..What do you think about that website that is offering any woman.. who can prove she's had sex with Tebow... a million dollars.
Two..The young girl who's mother made her apologize on Facebook for embarrassing her mother in front of her friend.
IMO..the first one...not cool at all. Leave the dude's sex life alone.
The second one..very cool idea. Some say that it's not good for the girl's mom to humiliate her like that...but she humiliated her mom in the first place. Evidently even the girl thinks it was the proper thing to do. But maybe that's because she wants back on her Facebook. Don't know.
Guess it's a good thing that you are contemplating a range of things
this week Carol...
Hopefully, soon you will be in a position to concentrate on yourself & Magster & enjoy life a bit more than when you are trying to fulfill the obligations where you work...
But just listening to you about all the chores you have been doing...makes me feel exhausted...
Hope you don't overdue...
Did you guys catch the news today
showing Enterprise shuttle flying up the Hudson River, past the Statue of Liberty across NYC landing at JFK before it is placed
on a barge to be brought to the Inteprid Museum where it will be on display...
This a.m. all the NY TV channels & rhe cable channgels showed its flight atop a 747...
It was pretty impressive sight...only wish it had circled further out into the Sound so we could have seen it live in CT...
here's some good pics of Enterprise
over NYC...particularly as it flew
past Statue of Librerty....
The Enterprise shuttle
over NYC
Cool pic Coreen.
I'm taking it slow and steady Coreen and come in off and on to rest and cool off. I'm not overdoing it. I used to do that when I was young. A week later...I couldn't move. It took me lots of years to learn not to do that. Well...the only reason I've learned is because I can't move fast anymore.
This is a hypothetical situation...OK
Picture yourself now. You are walking down the street..you just got yourself something that you value quite a bit.
Some kid..not yours or anyone you know's sees what you got and starts crying that he wants what you have.
Do you give it to the poor baby because he's crying that he wants it?
Now..let's talk about what happened at that ballgame. Some couple who went to a MLB game caught a ball in the stadium. Some kid close by starts crying..he wants it.
Why should that adult couple..who paid good money for those tickets give up that ball just because some brat close by is crying and wants it. Sorry about the brat comment but if the shoe fits...
What are we teaching kids? If you want something..just raise a stink and you'll get it. I don't think it's a good idea.
When you go to a BB game..everybody's a kid!
For the record...if I ever go to a Yanks BB game..and a ball flies in my lap..right after I finish picking up all my bones that are scattered around...I'M KEEPING THE BALL. Don't care how many wailing kids are sitting around. Maybe I'll wear a mustache.
Gee Carol, don't you know, you never ask an only child to give away their things...we don't share!!...
Might get you your own thing, but can't have what is mine!!....
The BB dustup at the Yankee/Ranger game...Michael Kay (our Yankee announcer on YES)...sometimes just
talks too much...& since my guys were getting beat that night he didn't have much to talk about sooo...yada yada yada...but he doesn't owe anyone an apology....
That game was not played at the stadium, in was in Texas...so those were likely texas fans invovled in the dustup....
New pics are great Carol.
I think the one change I am making in my life is to value today.
It never hurts to be kind to those we meet on our path in life today - just because it feels good to smile at someone on my walk or in the grocery.
One of the things we do in the Episcopal church in most services is "share the Peace" which is turning to our neighbors and saying something like "Peace of the Lord be with you" One of the things I have noticed is that sometimes people do not really look at me when they are saying the Peace, or they glance at me and are looking around for others while saying the Peace, So I make an effort to look at each person in a real way when I say the Peace to them.
Just an observation.
Coreen, do the Catholics "share the peace' with their neighbors in the service?
Carol, I have not seen the thing about the mother making the girl apologize.
Not seen the thing about Tebow either
As for giving the kid the ball at the ballgame, too bad the people felt they had to give up their ball. I would have reached in my pocket and given the dad some money to go buy the kid a ball.
Jan..I attended the Catholic church pretty "religiously" for several years after mom died and on holidays before and after. I went with Pa. I quit because it was a good little drive and it just got too difficult to get my all my weekend chores done.
Yes...they do the same thing. I liked that part of the service. I tried to shake as many hands as I could reach.
I'm surprised you missed the story about Tebow and the one about the little girl punished on Facebook. I don't see much news at the house but I saw it several times on the talk shows. Sports radio was talking about the Tebow thing.
Mom who used Facebook to discipline teen has no regrets
Website offers $1 million for proof of sexual relations with Tim Tebow
I really kicked it today. I got sooo much done. I have a list so I don't forget everything I want to do.
I continued to work on the yard. You ought to see my pile of tree limbs now. Then another trip to Wally World. I think I've hit that store every day since vacay started. Not spending too much but if I was going on a real vacay..I'd be dropping a big load. I'm still trying to get things I need at the house without overdoing it.
I came home..put up my toys then packed Maggie and me to come to the camp. I also packed up my hoveround mower to bring. This yard needs mowing also. Where did I ever find time to work?
Now..I'm grilling up some filet mignons and steamed some broccoli.
Jan..I don't just smile at the people at the grocery..I usually strike up a conversation. I was standing in a line to return something today and smiled at something someone ahead of me said to the checker girl. That girl mentioned it and then we all started talking.
Most people are friendly. Occasionally someone looks at ya like you have a problem but usually not. Maybe those people are not from my neck of the woods. And this is not a really small town..pop in area is probably close to 200000.
Congrats Coreen...watched the last inning of your Yanks..the stick game. Even that was exciting. I was holding my breath.
Now to complete my catching the BB fantasy from earlier. I catch the ball...then I get Jeter to sign it. Then I come home and tell people I found it in my gift bag..Wink Wink.
Coreen..I've had fun with my bon fires. I do like fires. Best part of camping. They do take a lot of tending to keep them going.
All I can burn right now is the dead stuff. I have a huge pile of green stuff that I trimmed from my trees. I trimmed just about everything that would hit me in the face when walking or riding my lawnmower.
I don't burn leaves..they put out too much smoke. I just mulch them. It adds to the soil. With all my trees..I do have lots of leaves.
All my yard tools have had a good work out. It's weird how much fun I'm having. Of course...add 20 degrees to the temp now..and it's to the house..mouse.
Bizarre ending but we'll take it...
and Derek is unattached at the moment...Minka is off with some
ladies man actor valderamma? or so the gossip says...
You are familiar with the "gift bags" huh?
And Coreen...Ellen was doing a reading from one of those mommy porn books. It was very funny.
I found a video of it
HILARIOUS: Ellen DeGeneres Does Fifty Shades of Grey Reading!
Finally got some cables for TV to DVR so I can watch rented movies again. Just finished watching Iron Lady about M. Thatcher.
Carol, did you say that you and big sis watched that. Interesting movie. Lots of history I did not know.
I watched the ellen video. She is too funny. I am curious about the book. Wonder if I can get it on my e- reader????hmmm. Wonder if the Christian bookstore carries it - ha ha ha
Jan..the books sounds a little S&M. I can't understand all the women who are showing so much interest in it. Are women now into being subsevient and masochistic?? Doesn't float my boat.
I have no desire to see Iron Lady. I saw so much of it when Meryl was on her movie tour.
Gloria wasn't interested either. She thought that it mostly focused on a time when the "Iron Lady" was not her best.
Would you really recommend seeing the movie?
Ya just have to love this about politics..especially Republican politics. Joe the Plumber..we aren't even sure he's a good plumber..is running for Congress in Ohio?? And that yahoo...Allen West is endorsing him?? This is the best the Republicans can do?? They should be laughing stocks.
I've had so much fun this week pulling my John Deere dump wagon around the yard. This is..until I have to get off my Snapper hoveround mower and work. But then I can use my battery powered saw. I feel like a kid playing with toys.
Jan..you read the mommy porn books and give us a book report. But I want details...OK? Just like Ellen did..you can paraphase. Since Coreen and I weren't mommies..we might not be able to really appreciate the books. How fast can you order the first book.
Jan..you told me to be careful with the chainsaw. Safety is my middle name. It wasn't into it when I was a teenager. Then...I challenged danger. After I became a nurse...I started paying careful respect to danger. Always looking for a soft place to land.
When I use unfamiliar power equipment. I read the directions and I wear the proper protective gear. I think that most women do that. That is usually contraindicated when testosterone is involved.
It's men that you see in the ER with those awful injuries from chainsaws and from pouring gasoline on fires. I think they are going for "macho" look but actually come off as the "idiot" look.
There are lots of rules for using a chainsaw and I've seen most men break them all! Don't cut over your head or your face may end up being the wood. That one is popular. Back of the leg is another popular spot to macerate.
When working in the ER..I got to sew up this guy who was working with his 80+ year old uncle on the roof. There was a chain saw involved. I think they broke just about all the rules.
The chain saw had cut thru all the layer of this guy's arm. The doc in charge of ER looked at me and said you do it. I looked around to see if anyone else was standing there and there wasn't. I asked..."you talking to me?" He indicated he was.
That arm was mince meat I tell ya. I got all my gear together and looked it over. I tried to sew together the layers that looked alike. I musta been channeling some surgeon. I was curious as to whether that guy's arm still worked after I got thru. Never heard otherwise.
When I did that year and a half in the ER..I was really impressed with my stitchery..if that's a word. I didn't even sew clothes but I did a pretty good job on people. I was patient..another virtue that I don't usually wear very well.
I told y'all that I once put a nose back together. Hey..I thought they would call in a plastic surgeon but noooo..they gave it to me. The pulmonologist.. who was seeing that patient.. was real impressed with my work.
He came in and asked who did the sewing. The nurses..who weren't very supportive of having the first NPs in the ER..(bitches)..looked at me and said.."she did it". I smiled sheepishly. He said..that was beautiful work. I looked at them and grinned from ear to ear and said..."thank you very much".
Those chain saw injuries aren't nothing compared to the gasoline burn injuries. I'll take the chainsaw ones any day.
I know I've told y'all that story a hundred times. That's what nice about being old..you can usually get by with doing that. What's also nice is that if you're talking to someone else close to the same age...you can only hope that they forgot you told them the same story a hundred times. LOL
Anyone looking for a good laugh tonight CNN is broadcasting the White House Correspondent's dinner tonight at 8:30CT, and surely it's a must see....always so funny and I've just heard that Kim Kardashian and Lindsay Lohan are on the invite list....good grief, no wonder the Sahlahis(not sure about the spelling) could sneak in, no one is mindng the store..
Coreen...I missed what Carol called the stick game...what was she meaning?
Moose Skowron passed away, 5 time World Series champ and one of only 2 players to hit 3 home runs in Game 7's. He was 81, played in the 50's and 60's with Mantle and Maris. He was a star 1st baseman for the Yankees and appeared in 8 All Star games..
Funny for someone who is not a Yankees fan, I sure know alot about them.....
I can't keep up with all ya'll on the politican stuff , ya'll are to up on those topics for me but I'm good for a little trivia sometimes.
cooking, gardening and sports are my limitations I'm afraid
That is the first time I heave heard your chainsaw story Carol. Its a good one.
That was Terry's only injury on the chainsaw and it was not that bad. He is a lot more careful in last 20 years. I don't know if you remember how accident prone he was in his earlier years. He has really matured.
It was an interesting movie (Iron Lady). I was particularly interested in the part about the Falkland Islands as that conflict involved the Argentines.
She was as bad as Bush jr in war issues. The war over the Falklands was stupid. I don't have much respect for her any longer.
I have never been into the S&M stuff either. I really am not interested in the book. I may just wait and read a little of someone else's book if I can find someone who buys it. Nothing in it sounds interesting to me.
We just got back from watching 10 y/o GD play soccer. She is in a tournament today - 3 games. I think we are going out to her last one. She is goalie in that one.
Coreen, that is really cool about the Enterprise. We watched that on TV. You are in a great place to participate and see so many cool things.
Oh come on Jan. You're the only one qualified to read the mommy porn. You're the only mommy. If someone writes a fur baby mom porn book..Coreen and I'll read it and report on it. Well..maybe not. Not if there are any fur babies involved.
dag nab it
Ok, that last comment was just to make sure it would post. I just lost a comment.
