OK History 101
I recently downloaded some pictures of Claremore, OK from a FB page. Thought I would share them. One is a pic of the old railway station where they filmed the first scene from Oklahoma, the Rodgers and Hammerstein movie. Oklahoma (the musical) was based on a play by Lynn Riggs (man) who was from Claremore. There is a downtown street named after LR in Claremore. Oklahoma became a state in 1907 and was formed from Indian Territory and Oklahoma Territory. The area I grew up in was Indian Territory or IT. Oklahoma Territory was in the western part of OK and that was where they had the land run - and the people who ran for the land were called Sooners or Boomers, hence, and they call U of OK football team -the Sooners and their song is called Boomer Sooner. I could sing it for you sometime. U of OK is in Norman, in the western part of OK.

Pic 2 - Claremore landmark -bought broasted chic there when I was a kid
Pic 3- downtown Claremore- few years ago
Pic 4- News article - pic of Will Rogers Memorial - Will and his family buried there- well maybe not - he died in plane crash in Alaska
Pic 5 - 2 businesses there for years. My family and I went to Dot's cafe when I was a teenager.
Probably should have named this "Claremore History 101. LOL
Jan..aren't you a Rogers? Any kin?
Very neat pics!
I know who got booted on Idol..and my statement will give you a hint.. Any of them would be a surprise to me..except Phillip. I don't like him like everyone else does but then...my taste never coincides with the taste of the majority of the American public.
Well Carol, our votes counted. I hate to see any of them go home, but I am glad we will see Joshua and Jessica another week. Yay for us. Our team won.
Yep, my birth name is Rogers.
In looking up some OK history, I found that the Chief of the Cherokees at the time of statehood was William Charles Rogers - my granddad's name was Charles Henry Rogers. I don't think they were related. The chief of the Seminole tribe was John Brown, the name of my great grandfather on my grandmother's side (who was also cherokee on her mother's side. I knew her dad was indian too, but I do not know which tribe. At any rate, I need to explore my ancestry.
Glad you made it through your first day back to work. Any stories?
Many of my patients wanted to hold out until I got back. The other NP wasn't too friendly..to anyone. On several of the diagnoses..he wrote..Malingering..drug seeking. I wouldn't dare write something like that as a diagnosis. I don't even think it's OK to do. Who can even prove that. If I suspect it..I indicate it with my assessment..positive and negative findings. He really didn't even have any assessments..just diagnoses and plan. He wouldn't pass one of my classes with that.
Carol, All I can say is "you have job security" if you want it. But you have to be able to let go- even if the NP taking your place is a jerk.
I had a huge pile of charts to sign off and technically I shouldn't have had any. I just started back today. I did check carefully and wouldn't sign off anything that wouldn't be something I would do. I did leave him pages of...how we do things..before I left. I never even got a chance to meet the guy. Most of what I signed off was my nurses using orders that I usually write. They did their best to keep him in line with what we do. He kinda let my nurses practice medicine but he was also working another full time job.
My job should actually be a job for two practitioners or the minimun of one and a half. I'm suppose to meet with my bosses sometime soon. I will be discussing that and it may be just before I'm heading out the door...for good.
I probably practice at a higher level of care than some would feel is necessary but I can't do things half ass. I've got to do them full ass. And I'm the ass.
Even though I may practice with a higher standard..I'm very careful to be cost effective. Nothing unnecessary but still...the best for less. Many others don't bother to consider that either.
Nice job Jan...some of those pics
remind me of how Bridgeport looked
growing up....in particular the
street scene with the Christmas lights...years ago, downtown here
was a vibrant place to go...lots
of stores & like your hometown, Christmas lights were strung across
Main Street...
Coreen, thanks for commenting on the Claremore pictures. It is sad but the claremore I remember as a very young child was so unique with its old brick buildings and wide streets. It is a mish-mash now. Many old bldgs torn down to make room for more modern ones through the years that were not attractive and did not last long. But, that is "progress." A few original bldgs remain but have been neglected. There are some small towns in OK that look like they did in the distant past because the townspeople and businesses recognized that the town would thrive more if the older images were maintaine.
maintained?
Jan..I wish they would keep those old buildings. I love them. I've been to some small towns that have. I think one is downtown New Brunsfel. They also have that haunted old hotel..The Faust Hotel. Did you ever go there when you lived in Texas?
A friend and I spent a weekend at that hotel. It was close to Christmas. Downtown was all decorated for Christmas and they had a big hot air balloon festival with a light show to Christmas music. It was cool.
Also.. a small town north of here..DeRidder.. has an old downtown area. It's like a trip back in time.
When we went canoeing..did we go to Gruene..a little town close to New Braunfels? It has some neat places. We usually always ate at the Gristmill River Restaurant after doing the river.
Maggie is a weird dog. Since we've been home she will jump up from a sound sleep like she see's a ghost and runs either behind one couch or under the other. She does the same thing with a thunderstorm but there is no thunderstorm.
I don't mind her running behind the couch but I'm afraid she will get stuck under the couch she crawls under. It has two recliners..one on each side. That leave some space but not where I can get to her. I can't even open the recliner to get her out because it would pinch her.
I blocked off her entrance to both sides of that couch I wanted her to have a place to feel safe when she has her freak attacks. I went to the camp and got one of her tents. I put it in the corner by the fireplace. I placed her padded mat in it and covered it with a blanket. I was waiting to see if she would use it to hide in. She just did. Phew..I now don't have to worry about her getting stuck in there.
Interesting about Maggie. She is getting spooked by something. Could be a dream. Did she do that ever at the camp?
the tent sounds like a good idea. My sister keeps a small container she carries her dog - open-and in the living room and when the dog gets scared by thunder or something she will go in there and stay.
Carol, I think you and I did go to Greune one time. I have been there several times while living in Austin. Did lots of rafting on the there. A great place. There are lots of little towns in the Hill Country of TX that are quaint. Some of these little towns are nothing by wall to wall antique/junk stores. Fun to visit.
Meant to say lots of rafting on the Guadalupe. I was at the U of TX for 4 years and took a lot of their school sponsored trips to different places. They were really cheap and provided buses for transportation. I saw a lot of the countryside that way. I took hikes, overnight backpack trips. there is a beautiful pink granite small mountain we used to hike. There are some gorgeous areas where we would go swimming. It was a great place to live. Caves too.
Carol, sounds like you have a great house. Cannot believe you did not live there for such a long time.
Have had a busy week. We have a little 2 1/2 year old boy in one of our child care centers that was just diagnosed (on Monday) with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL). He had been complaining that his back hurt at the Center. They started him on his first chemo tX yesterday. A really sweet, cute little fellow. At the Center they called him the little teacher. He was the Little leader of his peers. Very verbal. I bet his doc might be a little scared. The mom has been telling the doc for the last few visits that his back hurt and the doc did not do anything - said it was probably growing pains.
Jan...I've developed such a bad tendinitis in my good ankle and some in my knee that I can almost not walk at times. It really got bad the last several days. I guess from all that yard work..Walmart shopping and other walking.
I still have a limp in my left foot but I don't really notice the pain so much but with the limited range of motion of my left ankle and because I've favored my left foot so much.. my right leg has taken the abuse.
Yesterday I had to go up and down the stairs several times.. at the camp.. to put out birdseed and water the plants. I can go up the stairs with no real difficulty but have trouble going down. The last trip down..I didn't think I could even get to the bottom. I thought I'd have to scoot down on my butt.
I've started icing it. I can't take NSAIDs.
Jan..I can see how that might get missed for a while by a good medical practitioner. There is not an aggressive laboratory assessment of every child with back pain. I don't know how obvious the child's symptoms were.
Maggie can be asleep or awake. It's like something startles her. She just jumps up from where she is laying and runs to hide.
It's also burr season. I hate burr season. Maggie's long hair picks up burrs. They get caught in her hair and she is not good about letting me get them out. They will get around her face..when she tries to get them off somewhere else. Then it's a real struggle.
Maggie's not patient in letting me gently work them out. I try to keep some scissors handy. She also hates scissors. By the end of burr season..she had a real punk hairdo.
You need to get out tomorrow to do some moon gazing. We will have a supermoon tomorrow night.
"The supermoon this year will be a tiny bit smaller than the Supermoon from last year. This year the moon will be about 50,000 miles closer to the Earth than it is when it’s at its furthest point in its orbit. This will make the moon appear 14% larger and about 30% brighter than most full moons."
http://www.slashgear.com/supermoon-tomorrow-night-04226237/
I remember us talking about it last year. It was on March 19 last year and it was bigger last year.
Here's the site I linked last year. It's a neat site.
http://earthsky.org/tonight
Did any of you see that mom charged with child endangerment for putting her child in the tanning bed. That woman looks awful but thinks she looks good.
I've seen other tanning addicts that looked as bad but thought they looked good. It can bring out those dark blotches women with hormones get.
http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2012/05/nj_tanning_moms_latest_i_dont.html
If that woman isn't drunk..she missed a good chance to be.
And Jan..I am happy to be home. I think that the Universe has been hinting that it was time. The first hint was my three fractures from the stairs. Then that was followed by three floods. The Universe had to hint pretty loud since I'm ADD.
I did enjoy my three years of camping but it was time. I still love my camp and the Magster and I will continue to hang out there. I still have to go there every day to take care of critters and plants. Mags loves any excuse for a road trip.
Now..I have to move my dish back to the house. I waited a year to move it when I moved out to the camp. I don't think I'll wait that long this time. I'll try to schedule it for my next vacay.
I was sure glad that I started my last vacay and this next one also..in the middle of the week. I realized that I wouldn't get as many days off in a row but going back and only having two days to work before a weekend was perfect. It was sooo busy that I needed a weekend after only two days.
Carol, thanks for the heads up about the moon.
Sorry to hear about your ankles and feet. You need to take it easy now so they can heal. Why can't you take NSaids?
Growing older is a bitch for aches and pains. I have some too, but different from yours. I have headaches when I get stressed. I do take ibuprofen for them but only when nothing else non-chemical works. I only take 200 mg - for some reason that is adequate. always eat something with it. Tylenol does not work for a headache. Any other ache or pain I can live with or work out by walking or swimming. I do take claritin every day for allergies.
I would definitely avoid the stairs until your feet and ankles heal.
I have found that swimming or just moving around in the water is one of the best treatments for muscular aches and pains. It is great you have your pool.
I bet one of the reasons you don't see snakes now but did when you took sis over to your house when you were not living there is because the house is now habited and from what I hear snakes are more afraid of us than we of them. The snakes know you are back now so they have moved on to other places.
I am sure you are right about the doc. CA in kids is rare so I am sure he was not thinking of that. The teacher at the school said the child had been c/o of back pain for at least a month. The teachers have written info they send home with parents every day about what and how the child is eating, elimination or anything they see that is unusual for the kid - and the teachers had been telling the parents about the back pain. the parent also said the pain was waking the kid up at night. At least they have found it now and he is being treated. The CA doc told the parents his chance of recovery is 95%. This particular child care center is one of our best ones in terms of the teachers. We have 7 centers in our early head start program.
Jan..a month of pain is an indication for a thorough workup on that kid. Kids don't usually c/o pain for long unless something is going on..either physically or emotionally.
It's Derby Day on the Trail. It should be a fun day there.
Derby Day on the Trail
Carol, did your horse win?
Jan..none of the horses that I thought would do something..did. The guys doing the analysis said that there were any of 10-11 horses that could win that race. They were all that good.
Kinda like those in AI.
Maggie loves her little tent. When she wants to go for cover..she runs in her little tent.
I called my nephew's wife last night to see if she had any advice about the pain in my good ankle. She gave me some advice which included getting a elastic brace to use for a while.
I had bought one for my other foot but it hurt the bottom because of that nerve that was disturbed by the fracture. I went out to the camp and got it. I put it on my right foot. My pain was cut by about 90%. I texted her a thank you.
I hope you guys remember to go outside and look at the supermoon. It's impressive.
Last night I gave Maggie a haircut. I use little sharp scissors to cut it. She is scared of the clippers and I have to hide the scissors until I'm ready to start cutting.
I went out yesterday to the camp to find my little sharp scissors. I had this huge bag of scissors when I moved out to the camp. One by one each disappeared until I couldn't find any of them. I was thinking that Maggie must be hiding them somewhere because that's usually what I use those scissors for..to give her a hair cut.
Well..I finally found a couple of pairs in a nice little cup on my table. Evidently..big sis..put them neatly in that little cup. Unfortunately it's not where I was looking for them.
I did get her hair cut and today she will get a bath. She's too sensitive to do both in the same day. She is a highly sensitive dog.
I saw Peyton Manning on SNL last night. I hope he's not thinking that he can do TV if he has to retire early from his football career.
Carol, glad you have something that works for your ankle
Is your nephew's wife a PT?
We went out and looked at the moon last night. It did look great but not much different than we have seen before. It was close to 10 pm before we could see it because of cloud cover, so it was pretty high in the sky by then.
I have been busy sorting through stuff trying to get rid of stuff for past 2-3 weeks. You must be inspiring me Carol or maybe there is something in the air. When John and I married, we combined all our stuff and since then we have been trying to pare it down - let me rephrase that - I have been trying....down. John is the supreme couch potato. Now he does exercise. He swims or goes to the gym or walks most days. He contributes nothing to house work or yard work. I do it all. You might ask "why I put up with that?" I gave up on trying to change him several years ago.
When we go anywhere he does most or all of the driving. He will go to the grocery when we need anything and he does not expect me to cook. I cook when I feel like it. Other wise we bring food in or go out to eat.
My feeling is that relationships are a trade off. We decide what we can live with and what we cannot.
Not sure housework..or yard work is particularly anyone's cup of tea Jan. I do it because I have to. Now cooking is another thing. I like my cooking but it's not as much fun as it used to be before I did in those three vertebrae . I now go for cooking things that don't take as much standing up over a counter. Or things that I can work on over a longer period. Could never do one of those mega parties again. I'm sad about that..a little.
My unsolicited opinion is..if you live in a house..you share chores. I once read this little book..How to Live With Another Person. Their idea was when two people live together..they should sit down and negotiate equal chores. Rotate if there are chores that one doesn't like. It should be equal.
My niece in law is an OT. Occupational therapist. Has her master's in it. Walking is involved in any occupation. She did say that my problem was more for a PT. She did have good advice though.
I just got back from the camp. I picked up Maggie's shampoo..No More Tears. Now..I'll work up the energy to tackle that chore.
That's how I will move back..one or two items at a time. I will leave enough stuff there to be able to live there anytime..except major food that will spoil.
On my way home..I noticed this anole on the hood of my truck. I have to drive real slow down the camp road anyway so I'll figured it could hold on. I was sweating whether it would fall to it's death.
I kept it slow..even out on the main road. Thank God I didn't have to drive far. This big camper came up behind me and had to pass me up. I did make it into my driveway with the little fellow still on the hood. It just got relocated to a new home.
Right now I will have to admit that I am enjoying my housework here.
I didn't mean to send that last comment..it just went.
I have two bathroom here..one is more the Architectural Digest kind of bathroom. It's the one I added on. It has a 10 ft long miracle marble counter with long mirror..a large walk in shower with a place to sit down..a water closet..a large garden whirlpool tub.
The other bathroom was the original bathroom that was built with the house back in 1927. I had it ripped out and redone..in an antique style. The walls are that slatted wood at the bottom..with wainscot. I have a claw foot tub with a circular shower curtain..a pedestal sink..a pie safe for towels..and an antique dresser with a mirror for the counter. It's pretty cool.
It's good to hear you enjoying your home again...sounds like it has all the comforts of so you & Maggie get the best of both worlds...
Don't know about you guys, but no matter how much house cleaning I do
it never seems to end...it is always just catch up & not really
addressing all the clutter that has
accumulated...maybe if I ever stop
going to work everyday I will manage it better...but for now...& I am again ironing for the week...how I hate to iron but I have no one else to do it & for me those so called no iron clothes, not really no matter how fast you get things from the dryer, they still need to be ironed, seams crinkle up & need to be straightened, even on jeans & most of my clothes are cotton or cotton blend of some type...so back to it...
I agree on that ironing business. I hate to iron but I'm not wearing wrinkled clothes. I've never gotten anything out of the dryer that I would put on except some of those pants that have that wrinkled look or underwear. And jammies..I don't iron my jammies. Usually..my jammies are just a big t-shirt anyway.
Carol, cannot believe you left those great bathrooms for 3 years. Sounds like your home is very nice and comfortable. I lust after your bathrooms. I love our house except for the bathrooms. It is quite an expense to redo and both are too small to do much with them. Needless to say we didn't buy the house for the bathrooms.
I have ironing to do too. I don't mind ironing or doing laundry. I don't like dusting or sweeping. When we were kids, my sis and I were responsible for cleaning the house. She cleaned the kitchen and I cleaned the bathroom (only had one at that time) and made the beds. Today, her favorite thing is to clean the kitchen. I cannot say cleaning the BR is my fav but I would rather clean bathrooms than the kitchen. Strange!
Coreen, same here, seems it never all gets done. I do remember that living alone, it was much easier to keep up though. John is home all day.
Yep, I hear you Carol. We will be married 20 years may 29 and I think the negotiating days are over. I remember when my son Bill and his wife married. Bill was the worst at cleaning his room as a kid. His clothes were always on the floor. When they married and he left any clothes on the floor, she would put them in the trash. He stopped that. She is one of 6 kids. Enough said.
Most of what I wear is cotton and washable. It all has to be pressed or ironed. I have worn out many irons in my lifetime.
I think it is interesting that 3 out of 3 of us still iron our clothes. That's unusual. I Googled it and found only one source that reported 29.7 percent of people iron their clothes. I'm not sure it's that high.
Interesting Dateline tonight about discrimination among teens. Did anyone see it. Many who vote for AI are teens and this show demonstrates that many of those teens out there voting on Idol aren't necessarily going for who is best but who best looks like what they think is appropriate for an Idol.
Jan..John may not do house or yard work but I hope he wouldn't be taking pics while you were being mauled by a cheetah. I'd really have to draw the line there..even if I'd been married 50 years.
Violet D'Mello, Tourist, Mauled By Cheetahs In South Africa As Husband Photographs Attack (GRAPHIC PHOTO)
Jan..I've gone thru many irons. I even bought one of those high dollar irons..Rowenta..and it fell apart faster than the cheap ones. Since you guys are ironing freaks...do you guys have one that you have found to be really good?
Jan..I saw a star lite up on our map and it was from Claremore. I guess your post brought in a local.
I still don't know how people find this blog. I never show up on our blog star map. Not when I'm on my laptop or when I'm on my iphone. I've had the blog up on both and it shows 0 visitors. It's not very accurate as to how many are visiting. I may be lurking but no one knows when.
Even though I'm making some headway..I still haven't tackled the toughest jobs yet. I stuffed most of my stuff into two of the bedrooms when roomy lived here. I have to tackle those and my main master bedroom needs a little work.
I'm still sleeping on my couch. Yes..I know that is crazy but I have no TV in the bedroom. When I get the satellite moved here..I'll have to get another TV and then I'll use the bedroom. Maggie thinks I'm nuts. She wants to go to bed in the bedroom. She is welcome to do that. I have a huge king sized bed and I'm sleeping on a couch.
The three bedroom were added at different times. First in 1027..second..about 1975 and third 1995. I painted the oldest bedroom several years back. It's this really neat dark blue green color. Very soothing. I've collected a lot of lighthouse stuff for that room. It has an antique look about it. I've made it a library. It has several large bookshelves full of books. I even need another one. It also has boxes and golf clubs and other junk. I want to get a lazy boy that I bought for mom to put in there and have it as a reading room. Yeah..I know I don't read..except online.. but maybe one day.
This place is a work in progress but I'm making some progress.
My house is a work in progress too Carol. Do you keep the tv on all night?
Jan..I did decide to sleep in my bed last night. Yes..I usually do keep the TV on all night. Listening to something..not too unpleasant.. helps me fall asleep. I have sooo much on my mind with work and managing Pa's estate. The latter has already turned into a nightmare. You guys were right. If there wasn't a distraction..I'd never get to sleep.
Instead of TV I had my computer and tuned into C2C. It took no time to fall asleep. I don't remember a single word. It was some program on the unconscious mind. Maybe my unconscious mind heard something.
Good grief - the cheetah mauling the woman. I think that woman needs to look closely at her marriage/
I was up at 4:30 this am. I moved furniture to clean yesterday and I was in pain last night - back, knees. Actually, don't know where there was not some degree of pain. I took an ibuprofen so I could sleep. Am feeling somewhat better this morning although back is still pretty sore, I can get around. Caffeine (tea) works wonders. John helped with moving furniture but I did all the cleaning, vacuuming. It does feel good to get some of that done. The moon is beautiful this morning. I have the windows open and the birds are chirping.
I do have 2 young women who clean for me every 2 weeks, they do the bathrooms, kitchen, dusts and cleans floors. They do not move beds and other furniture and get under & behind those nor do they clean out cabinets, fridge, closets. I did hire them extra once to clean windows, but they damaged the screens so I do the windows now.
lots of wind this morning and our temps are supposed to be in the low 70's for next few days.
