Thanks for the new post Chloe. Emma is really growing up to be a beautiful young lady. Cute pictures.
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
We are home in ABQ and expecting snow tonight. We drove John's son, Bill, back to Ark. He spent Christmas with us. We drove home and missed the weather coming into NM, Texas, OKlahoma and ARkansas.
We may be able to use that snow shovel we bought about 6 years ago.
Chloe, I have not thought of us traveling that much. Most of our travels are road trips to visit family. We are super family-oriented and like to see them often. We were thinking about how many times we have traveled on I40 between ABQ and OK/Ark over the past 15 years. All I can say is that we know the road so well. We enjoy the time together as we talk a lot on these trips. Our daily lives are tied up with "doing stuff" and so our car trips are a chance to really catch up with each other.
Solar... I just want to tell you how often I think about you. It means so much to hear from you.
It means a lot to hear from all of you. Life is more lonely without my blog buddies. I think in some ways that we know each other in ways that no one else knows us.
Thanks for th new post. It pouring here. Dick of thrvtsin. Karen is out of the hospital and back atmhome my nsa and find are killing me nut it will go awash soon.
Carol, I hope you feel better soon. Did you break a bone? Take care of yourself and let us know how your doing.
We've had a lot of rain too, but now it's supposed to be dry all week. Got some sun late afternoon today, and it was so good to see it back... so beautiful.
Glad to hear that Karen is back home. Hope everything is looking up for you.
A couple of days ago I moved home so I can start trying to achieve more independence but it didn't work it today morning I woke up and I couldn't walk so I needed going to the emergency room but everything was okay I couldn't even remember what I was worried about my
That was Emma's first time ice skating, and that picture is probably deceiving (although kids are a lot quicker learning new things than we adults are).
We're taking her again tomorrow (before that particular rink closes down for the year) to celebrate her coming birthday.
... can you believe she'll be 6? An 'immature' 6 (maybe because of the ADHD), but 6 all the same.
Hi Chloe, sorry to be so long in visiting on here. I love the pics of Emma, especially the one of her ice skating. Brought back some good memories. All my life I wanted to learn to ice skate. When I was going to school in Houston, I discovered the ice rink at the Galleria, so I signed up for classes. I drove over for 3 days each week. I loved ice skating. I don't ice skate any longer. I am too afraid of breaking a bone.
I did a lot of roller skating as a kid and teenager. I have put on both ice skates and roller skates in past 20 years. Roller skating is more forgiving.
Think I found a new housemate he's a young 30-year-old man he works delivering flowers for florist. Greta interviewed his mother and the young man for an hour at least eat a piece he seems just perfect but Wilsie Pray that this is the right fit even used to work for a vet so that would be good for Maggie. How is everyone doing you looks like it's going to be cold up in coloring Jerian in nasty were warming up a little here which is very good for me
Carol, your new housemate sounds ideal. I sure hope he works out for you. Yes, having some experience with a vet will certainly help too, for Maggie. Interesting news about your blood pressure med.
It is cold here but not too cold. The sunshine really warms up things here even when temps are in the 40's.
We are doing well. Had my granddaughter, her husband and 2 little ones over for dinner plus her brother, my grandson, and his girlfriend. It was fun. My little great grandson (Dominik) looks like a cross between Bill and Terry when they were little guys. My sister gave Dominik who is 2 years, a harmonica and he sounds like a natural with the harmonica. Maybe he will be musical.
I talked with Carol on phone today. She is concerned about a "shadow" on the ultrasound of her kidney. Her mother had cancer on adrenal glands (these are on the kidney)
Carol, I hope I am getting this right.
She also still has fracture of rib.
Greta has found Carol a house mate. A 30 year old man who needs a room. Greta has checked him out thoroughly and he has passed inspection (I think). Carol has been living with her good friends and would like to live in her home again.
I don't know about Mary's new guy either. I feel so bad for Lady Edith. She wants her baby. So hard for women in those days. Women in other countries still experiencing this.
I agree, Carol. When the weather changes, everything changes.
Being back in the comfort of your home that you love will be good for the soul, too. May take a little time to adjust and overcome/deal with any fears you may feel, but you can do it.
... my latest favorite quote: Sometimes the smallest step in the right direction ends up being the biggest step of your life. Tip toe if you must, but take the step.
Ha!, Carol... what you said is about it feeling like a blind date is a good way of putting it... that feeling of not knowing what to expect. Apprehension?
Glad you're off to a good start. A (another) new beginning. Keep's life interesting.
So very happy for you Carol. I know how happy I am to get home from a trip. So many phrases express this. "Home is where the heart is" "there is no place like home" I bet you can think of a few.
Carol, hope that all things work out with your health concerns and with your new housemate...
That you went to wallyworld sounds like a step in the right direction...even it that includes being a meat eater...
Chloe, nice to see the pics of emma, it sure does seem like just a blink ago she was a baby...am sure that she takes up just about all your time & energy & you love it!..
Carol, no problem with the snow so far, we did not get the 'epic blizzard' that was being hyped for days...just a typical new England snowstorm...about 6" here, but a lot further to the east & not sure if Renee wound up with a lot...
Jan, you & John are true 'road warriors'..not sure how you do it...when we went to NYC just before Christmas, we had a driver take us & I was happy to not have to deal with the never-ending traffic there...
Hey, Coreen! Good to see you here. Glad to hear the storm was manageable... and thanks for the kind words. You're right, Emma takes up most of my time, and it's a lot of work, but I'm thankful I'm able to do it.
Carol, are you still at home and doing well? 'Please' leave a message here. I cancelled my Facebook account, so miss being able to check in on you.
... if you give up on the blog, then I'm pretty sure everyone will. I'm sure they are like me and count on hearing about your well-being.
He sounds like the perfect roommate to me, Carol. If he was home all the time, it would probably eventually get on your nerves.
Use the days to do something you enjoy. Maybe start by getting into the newest season of Downton Abbey. (there are a lot of good series you can get into).
Hopefully, you settle in and continue to enjoy your independence at home. Please keep letting us know how you're doing.
I don't appreciate those religious messages n Facebook that treaten us to hare the message within a time limit and yo will receive something good or if you don't, something bad will happen. I don't appreciate any communication that threaens me to pass it on to friends or else. I wouldn't do that to friends.
... warm weather will be here to say in about a month. That's plenty to look forward to (for me, anyway).
You have to admit it hasn't been much of a winter down here. It gets cold, but doesn't stay that long. The sun has been wonderful. Make sure you enjoy the sun when it's shining, Carol. It is so mood lifting.
Do you have a favorite window to watch Spring arrive? On the warm days I'm already getting a good preview. Birds and all (plus it stayed greener than usual this winter).
Carol and Chloe, enjoyed your conversation. Carol, your roomie sounds like my sis. She too cooks and keeps kitchen clean. I love that. It is good for both of you to have some time away from each other. Tape some of your favorite TV shows and watch these when he is not there. Also a good time to take naps if you do that.
Coreen, we do like our road trips as long as they are not too close together. We neither one like to listen to the radio. We both like the quiet. We both are introverted, me more than John so we both like quiet, thinking time. On our trips we talk more with each other than when at home. So it is good to "catch" up with whatever is on our minds.
Chloe, from what you have told us here, you are really living in the best part of the country for your needs. I am too. I love the cooler, drier weather. We have had so much more precipitation since July. We have had about 6-7 snow falls this winter so far. That is about 5 more than usual. The snow falls are not heavy and it is not cold enough for them to stay around long. We needed it. I hope this turns around the drought we had for years.
Carol, a nursing student is missing. She is from the Ark. university where my granddaughter goes to school. She left clinicals in Hot Springs the other day and has not been seen since. You may have seen this on my FB page. She is also a cousin of a friend of mine from high school in Claremore OK. We are saying prayers for her safety. It has been about 4 days now.
My sis is going back to Dallas for a few days to visit with her pain doc there. She takes pain meds every day so sees her pain doc every 3 months for prescriptions. She has Crohns disease. We finally found her an internal med doc - with appt in July and then she will have to refer her to a pain doc here. Such a rigamarole this is. By next fall she should have the docs she needs. We should have started this sooner.
I still like Downton Abbey but not as exciting as it was the first 3 seasons. We are watching Doc Martin on PBS. Does anyone watch that or do you get it? Its about a doctor who was a surgeon in London and developed a blood phobia and now practices general medicine in a small coastal town. The scenery is great and the cast are delightful. It is on here on Thursday nights. Another one we like on PBS is Scott and Bailey about 2 women cops in England who solve crimes.
I agree, Jan. No matter what TV series it is, it's never the same after a long break. It's as though it can't live up to 'itself'.
I find them a lot better when I can watch a few seasons at once (like they come on Netflix sometimes). One at a time always falls relatively flat, in comparison (at least for me).
... oh, and Carol, keep in mind that you can always catch up on a lot of your favorite series on Netflix for flat rate. Personally, that's my favorite way to watch them (although only streaming onto the big screen).
I watch the new stuff on Directv, but Directv annoys me for many reasons. Am sure we'll give it up again in the future. Streaming at will is so much more enjoyable to me.
... BTW, what bothers me most about DirecTv is the price... and Amazon looks like they are following in their footsteps.
I love Amazon, but their streaming is getting expensive. They keep going up in price on everything, entertainment wise.
Carol, Netflix is going to continue 'House of Cards' in the near future (or so I've read). Might be a good time to review the old episodes. We can watch it together again (hopefully).
Saw a program on North Woods L Aw on Animal Planet. It was about this 66 year old female hiker who went missing over a yearago on the Appalachian Trail while hiking. Couldn't find any further info online. Renée, have you heard anything about that lady?
Think ill eat some ice cream. I was eating it late at night and waking up with low abdominal pain. Ate it earler last night and didn't hate any pain this am
Ve gotten into watching Alaska State Trooper and now North Woos La. I like these programs. They cover regular law enforcement and game warden activity.
Work has kept me pretty busy. My sister is in Dallas for a few days.
We are looking forward to spring. She likes to garden so we are going to plant a few vegetables - tomatos, cucumbers etc. I hope to learn something about gardening. She loves to get out and work in the yard. She has also been going across the street and visiting a couple in their 90's. The man in the couple has alzeimers or some kind of dementia. His wife cares for him by herself. The woman was asking for someone to visit as she gets pretty lonely. sis has been getting acquainted with several neighbors.
Oh I remember what BBT is? It is that show that is filmed in Albuq. about the guy that is making drugs. I have never watched it. oh great. I just sneezed on my computer screen. I did not feel it coming. Better find something to clean it. bye.
Chloe, I don't min ndeing at hoe alone during tomeday. It is being alone after dark that I done car e for.
Dylan is usually hoeat night. He I visiting hi mom thi evening ,she ha been sick. My friend Greta has been sick with doe GI illess for a week. Thinks he is finally better today. Onsory for her nut glad I'm o there o catch what she has.
Carol, Sorry I didn't recognize BBT as Big Bang Theory. Now I see it. Silly me! John watches an hour of reruns of BBT every night from 6 to 7 pm. Of course since I am in the living room I watch it too. We have "hooked" my sister on BBT too.
Carol, After my divorce I had a terrible time being alone - day and night. Then when I moved to Ark. I had made some good friends and I did better. I wa not used to living alone. It was the first time in my life I had lived alone. I know your situation is different. I sure hope this continues to work out for you. Dilan sounds like a good guy.
Ha, Carol. No hidden messages (you know me, I always blurt out whatever it is I'm thinking). I just really love that quote.
I gain weight when I get too heavy into the ice cream. Think maybe you're not eating enough of it.
A little advice from this pro: if it's too hard to scoop out of the carton quickly, pop it in the microwave for 20 seconds (give or take) then as you're scooping it up, eat some on the way. :)
Good to see you and Jan posting.
And, Carol, I am so glad your roommate is working out.
Still lots of good stuff on Netflix and Amazon. If you're watching it on your computer, it's even easier. I prefer to stream it to the big screen.
We have a lot of warm weather for the next several days, then cooler again. Not long to go before the warm is here to stay.
Hang in there, Carol.
... oh, and BTW, I actually changed my logo for Google+, and then it changed it everywhere. You know how Google is, have their tentacles in everything. You might remember the problems I've had in the past.
I watched some reruns of bbt last night that I haven't seen before. I laughed hard. It is very funny at times. It was when Sheldon found his mom having relations with a man and was upset.
Denton Abbey was really good last night. Anyone here still watching it?? Jan?
grandma had some Good lines last night. Her comment about "..too much thinking going on..." interesting what the Doc told Barrow. In almost cried when Edith picked up her daughter, Marigold.
Georgia. Was also taken by grndms's quote which was"... all tis endless thinking is highly over rated. She blamed thevwar because before the war, no one did any thinking. Jan Do you remember that DiscussionJan? grandmas is so cool at times.
Hi Carol, I enjoyed Downton Abbey. I feel so bad for Edith. Not a good time for women. I loved the things the Dowager said about thinking being overrated. She is so funny.
I have sort of lost some interest in Lady Mary. Lady Edith is my new favorite character. I am not sure what Mary's game is. These women surd don't pay too much attention to their children.
We watched a movie the other night titled "Non stop" An airplane movie. Lady Mary was an airline attendant. Very confusing for me. I kept thinking of her as Lady Mary in the movie. It was an interesting movie. I liked it.
Yes Carol, I read the 3 book series. Not ashamed to admit it. My sister told me about the 1st book and then I went on and read the 2nd and 3rd. I don't think I will go to the movie. I thought the book was interesting. Everyone was talking about it and I like to know what they are talking about.
Careen and Renée, are you two varied in now. You need to check in to let us know you are OK.
Every morning I watch the weather channel talk about all the snow up your way. How are your roofs holding up?
I dont even like our cold weather. I don't know how you guys tolerate your weather.
I don't have an ounce of fat to help me stay warn. Not only can I not gain weight but I keep losing more. I go get all my fav foods but then can't eat much of it. I don't even tolerate the nutrition drinks. I can eat the ice cream cookies and cream pie and turtles candy. I take vitamins.
I have no appetite. I saw that cymbalta can decrease appetite so I am going to stet taking that at night instead of in the morning. I can't quit it cold turkey.
I didn't take my cymbalta yesterday moning. I have bee hankering for spaghetti son I made some yesterday afternoon and ate two good sized plate full. First significant food intake in months.
I guess it was the cymbalta that was messing up my appetite and eating. Probably responsible for about 50 pounds of weight loss. They ought to ptescribe that drug for weight loss. I can't just stop that med so I took it at bedtime instead. I didn't take it this morning either so I will see if I can still eat well today.
Hey, Carol. I looked up Cymbalta, and sure enough it had weight loss list as a common symptom.
Talk to your doctor and tell her your discovery. She can always prescribe something else that does the same thing, but doesn't cause you to lose weight
Actually, some of the antidepressants cause weight gain. Call her, Carol.
ps I noticed Cymbalta is an ia a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor too, not only seratonin. You might do better with one that affects serotonin and dopamine. (?) They often make people gain weight.
I haven't made any in a while. It's always good, even when you don't feel like eating other things. Mac and cheese is too, and good for putting on weight.

Hey, Jan. You and John travel more than any two people I've ever seen. You are so lucky to have the time, means and freedom to just that.

Hi, Carol.
Are you walking OK now... and feeling OK?
Could it have been similar to an anxiety attack, since it was your first time alone in a while.
Please let us know how your doing. I worry about you.
Ha!... about the Olympics, Carol.
That was Emma's first time ice skating, and that picture is probably deceiving (although kids are a lot quicker learning new things than we adults are).

Hi Chloe, sorry to be so long in visiting on here. I love the pics of Emma, especially the one of her ice skating. Brought back some good memories. All my life I wanted to learn to ice skate. Jan,
You brought back memories when you mentioned roller skating. I really loved it, too, when I was a kid. Both sidewalk and rinks.
Isn't it ironic that you learned to ice skate in Houston? :) Probably 'one' of the most unlikely places in the U.S.
Jan, it often occurs to me how much of your life you have spent learning. It shows so much a sense of adventure (IMO).
I wish I had done more of it in my life.
But, like (I see) you, I have to say I've never backed away from change. The result of that has been so rewarding and advantageous.
Jan, Here's a local place I've been thinking about taking Emma to, just long enough to get the basics.

I'm it at the camp with Greta wo likes it more than I do.
Having problems posting comments.
It's warmed up today. Hooray
Good to hear from you Carol. It is warmer in many places today. Not here. But that is ok. I like the cooler weather. Hope you are doing good.
Jan, I've been walking ok sine I quitmy blood pressure med. I think it was dropping my Bo too much. Actually Greta diagnosed that.

I missed many of the downtown Abbey episodes this year and must have forgotten some of the old ones.
I didn't know that Edith had a child or didn't remember that Anna was raped.
Any of you watch the super bowl last night.
We watched the super bowl Carol. John was for the Patriots. I didn't care. His team won.
I still watch Idol. I am a loyal fan.
The student nurse I wrote about was found dead in her car. She had driven off the road into some water in a rural area. Very sad.
Carol, the cold should be on it's way out again about tomorrow. Warm weather for the weekend.
Can't wait for March and April... favorite months. (... sometimes the last half of Feb. is like Spring also, but you can't count on it).
... oh, and Carol, keep in mind that you can always catch up on a lot of your favorite series on Netflix for flat rate. Personally, that's my favorite way to watch them (although only streaming onto the big screen).
I watch the new stuff on Directv, but Directv annoys me for many reasons. Am sure we'll give it up again in the future. Streaming at will is so much more enjoyable to me.
It's good to hear how much you and your sis are enjoying each others company, Jan.
Getting on here was a little different this time. Has something happened to the blog?
Saw a program on North Woods L
Aw on Animal Planet. It was about this 66 year old female hiker who went missing over a yearago on the Appalachian Trail while hiking. Couldn't find any further info online. Renée, have you heard anything about that lady?
THe lady was from Tennessee. Don't know why she was hiking alone. They did an extensive search for her for two two weeks, found nothing.
Jan, our temps have gotten into the 30s and 40s. Still too cold for me.
I want to rematch an episode of Downtown Abbey but can't find it anywhere. No longervavailable on pb
Have a sore throat. Probably all the heat I have going
Think ill eat some ice cream. I was eating it late at night and waking up with low abdominal pain. Ate it earler last night and didn't hate any pain this am
Hello, hello, anyone else home?
Hello, hello, anyone else home?

As supposed tomread... how's your weather?
Jan, I still war th reuns of BBT. Seen some of them 3_4 times.
Ve gotten into watching Alaska State Trooper and now North Woos La. I like these programs. They cover regular law enforcement and game warden activity.
Carol, what is BBT?
Glad to see you posting stuff Carol.
I am trying to finish John's t shirt quilt. I think I have been working on it for a year.
Well it is almost 11. Time to get to bed.
Hope to see all of you on here soon.
Carol, my sister likes some of the same programs you like. Too bad we don't live closer to you. You two could watch TV together.
Oh I remember what BBT is? It is that show that is filmed in Albuq. about the guy that is making drugs. I have never watched it. oh great. I just sneezed on my computer screen. I did not feel it coming. Better find something to clean it. bye.
I thought you were talking about big bang theory Jan. Your the one that. Recommended watching that comedy. Jan.
I am not what show you are talking about Jan. In was talking about big bang.
Chloe, I couldn't get back into that series you ate talkin about. I loved the first season. You are correct about, its never the same.

MY BIL. EATS I CE CREAM OFTEMN AND JE IS. A BEAN POLE. MAYBE IT IS A DIET FOOD. IT IS WHEN IT IS FROZEN HARD AND I CAN T EVEN SCOOP IT OUT.
Her comment about "..too much thinking going on..."
interesting what the Doc told Barrow. In almost cried when Edith picked up her daughter, Marigold.
before nbt, I Was still watching bbt reruns and laughing.
Jan, I reememmbber you being quite good at ice skating. You used your regulaar skating experience. I could barely stand up without Falling
Anyone being plagued by Marcus, te winter storm??
We had quite a warm day yesterday. In the 70s.
Georgia. Was also taken by grndms's quote which was"... all tis endless thinking is highly over rated. She blamed thevwar because before the war, no one did any thinking. Jan Do you remember that DiscussionJan? grandmas is so cool at times.
I saw a preview for net weeks DA. MI wonder if Mary is goin to go after her cousins beau?
I need you guys t talk to me. Ok
I need you guys t talk to me. Ok
I liked it.
New Mexico is considering going to daylight savings time all the time. (a bill in the legislature).
Are you all concerned about Social Security?
Jan, I can relate more with edith than Mary. Eem lk I hung around with a lot of marys.
why should we be worried about social Security? I hope not. Thaws most of my income.
Jan, indont care fot daylight savings time. Wouldn't want to prolong it.
Anyone going to see 50 shades...? or will you admit to it. Who read the book?
I bet Jan read the book. Maybe Renée also? I thought about it but the material no longer interests me. It would have yaerss ago
Heard on HLN. That the fire depth is worried about what kind of injuries may show upaaaafter the movie.
The movie does make me curious.
I'll wait until its out on DVD.
Yes Carol, I read the 3 book series. Not ashamed to admit it. My sister told me about the 1st book and then I went on and read the 2nd and 3rd. I don't think I will go to the movie. I thought the book was interesting. Everyone was talking about it and I like to know what they are talking about.
I think I remember Renee said she heard the writing was not good and she was not or did not read it. Not sure!
We have HBO and Showtime now so will save the money for a movie and go out to eat instead.
Carol, I thought the topic of the book would not interest me any longer but after starting the book I discovered that part of me is not dead yet.
That spagetti sounds good!
I haven't made any in a while. It's always good, even when you don't feel like eating other things. Mac and cheese is too, and good for putting on weight.
It's not safe to get that thin. Eat!
Chloe, I. Am notrying to lose wight. I am rm tgini. Held the cymbalta gan yesterday nd still coulda eat last night. I am disappointed about that.
