Was finally able to download some pics from Carol's Facebook page (discovered I had a program installed that was blocking me from posting... disabled it).
Greta contributed a picture of 'Carol with a good friend's father' to Carol's Facebook page with a very touching tribute: "Your wonderful Daddy was always a very good friend to me and Carol, and we enjoyed his company immensely. And we treasure the wisdom he shared with us & the time we spent together. We love and miss him."
Including the two pics she had posted of her beautiful river also.

Love you, Carol.
Any pics or posts that you can upload to your Facebook (or email to me chloe@doubt.com) I will now be able to post them on the blog here.
... will eventually post some pics of Emma, too. She's grown so much, you won't recognize her.
Jan, regarding your comment from the previous thread, I too often wake up too early, or multiple times during the night.
Hope you are, otherwise, doing well.
Thanks for the new post, Chloe.
As for sleep patterns… I've been told that waking up during the night and having a hard time going back to sleep is common for adults.
Rick and I are leaving for Cape Cod early tomorrow morning.
Everyone take care!
Chloe, thank you for the new post. Love the pictures of Carol and her dad and the ones of Carol's camp. Did Carol paint the first pic. Love it too.
I seldom had sleep problems until about 3 years ago - except when I had something on my brain that would not turn off. Now I seldom have an uninterrupted night of sleep. Usually it is allergies that wake me even when I take an antihistamine before sleep. If I take an ibuprofen when I wake up I can almost be assured of at least another 3-4 hours of sleep. So maybe it is some arthritis pain that is waking me. Other times I will drink a cup of decaf tea with milk and after an hour or so I can get back to sleep. So, I guess it is not all bad.
Renee, Have a wonderful trip. Thanks for the info.
Chloe, Do you have any idea why you wake up during the night?
I look forward to pictures of miss Em.
I remember my step mother said she had insomnia. She was about 85 at the time. She lived to be 92. She used to take Ambien for sleep. I remember one night we were spending the night with her and my dad. She took 1/2 an Ambien before she went to bed. She fell asleep at the table and John and I had to help her to bed. She was out like a light.
Renee, You and Rick have a wonderful trip to Cape Cod!
... Jan, thanks for the little Ambien story and the loving memory of your step mother.
And Jan, I think the Ibu makes a lot of people rest better. We undoubtedly have a lot more ache's and pain's than we focus on. Either that, or something that helps the pain probably, also, relaxes our muscles a little.
A plus is that it is an anti-inflammatory to, if taken regularly. More pain relief.
Oh,you asked why I think I wake up at night. It's undoubtedly because I often have trouble slowing down my mind.
Too many thoughts...(leads to worry).
Is your sister still with you, Jan?
Carol,
Have you been able to catch up on sleep.
Hope you're all doing well.
Renee, have a great trip and fun.
That man is Kathy Dever, one of my nreighbor, and best friend's father,. He was also a neighbor and good friend. He died about a month after mom died. He taught me a lot about the river and fishing.
Et she has grown a lot sinc e lst sw pics would have loved my camp. Inwish he could have seen it. I do feel his spirit out at the camp nd with m when I'm fishing.
Thanks for the post Chloe. I do want to see some pics of Emma. I b
I've tried to post pics of the baby from my text message to FB and ai can't do it. Don't know why. I have done it before.
Chloe, my sis is still with us. I hope she stays. I spent the weekend moving closets to make room for her clothes in her room. She is going back to Dallas on 10/20. She has 2 doctor's appointments. I think she will be back here in early Nov. I sure love having her here. I suspect she will stay here most of the time and go for frequent visits to Dallas as her daughter and several grandchildren live there. We are lucky to have a large enough house for the three of us. Sis has her own room. We have 2 bathrooms and need a 3rd one, but we manage.
You should be able to email those pics (from your phone) to your email (on your computer), Carol. Then you should be able to copy and save the image in order to post it on Facebook.
(or, send it to Jan or me, so we can try.)
Jan,
How great it is that your house is large enough to accommodate another family member, and that you have this opportunity to spend time with your sister. Giving her this choice has got to be such a relief to her.
So good that you two can enjoy each others company so much, and that you and John are in the position to make it happen.
I on think I have vr aught up on my mised sleep. I do gt an occasional nap. I love naps.
Renee have a nice trip. Going on the road trip to the wedding was fun even though I don't care for weddings.
Naps are especially nice in the winter! Preferably in a recliner, under a big, warm blanket. :)
Missed the river pics on FB...thanks for your efforts Chloe...
About those sleepless nights...seems that goes along with the aging process, not sure why, but just about everyone I know doesn't sleep through the night...
Not much to report here, all is well...
In the meantime take care guys...
Coreen, thanks for sharing about sleep and aging. At least,it is good to know I am not alone.
Good to hear you're doing well, Coreen.
I'm cold this morning.
Carol, it is cold here in the mornings. This morning it was 42 degrees. It did warm up into the low 70's in the pm.
How are you doing? Have not seen you on here in a while. Missing you.

'M in distress about my ancient enormous bald cypress tree. It was injured probably sine Rita it the rit side of the frame when we take pics from our upper deck. It's beautiful.
W had another wind storm or maybe a small tornado a week or so ago and th tears it had got bigger. It's actually two trees merged together.
It's not stable and another strong wind might take it Dow. I already had one tree guy look at it an day it had to go. I have another guy coning to look at it next week. I'm no expert but common sense indicates it's not safe.
Breaks our hearts to have to remove it
Also, to get to it several other trees will have to be removed. Sad. I'm heart broken. You know me and trees.
Also the work will cost a fortune. It will require a bucket truck, if that will work. It's in a tight spot.
I've never really appreciated my house that much but one that've been living away from I for awhile, I miss it and the new tempur pedicure ergo bed.
I'm staying with a friend since my stroke and one of those friends is staying at my house to get enough peace and quiet from her assberger teen to study for grad school.
I don't want to leave one of his mom's alone with that teenager because she's not in good health and need help shuttling him around to all his activities.
I come home on the weekend to visit my camp and spend the night at my house in my bed
When you start taking something for granted, just leave it for a will and you will start missing it.
On the better news side, LS.u looked a little like their old team yesterday evening.
Hope the Saints look like their old selves. Maybe that's too much to ask.
Think I'll take a nap. Didn't get enough sleep as I wanted. Already had my coffee but that won't mess up a nap, usually
Carol…
We had 2 maple trees that grew together in our front yard. They were big, beautiful, and made a great hangout for the birds. But in the summer of 2008 Rick decided they were too unstable and wanted them taken down. I argued against it. But down they came and I was heartbroken. Then in December of that year we had a terrific ice storm. It looked like a bomb had gone off in our yard from all the downed trees. Those maples would have come down on our roof. Rick was right and I'm glad he won that argument.
I did get the name of an arborist in my area who I can consult. I called and left my number. Hope he calls back. I don't want to lose that tree.
Have not heard from the arborist
Arborist has finally contacted me I will meet him at the camp sometime today to get his opinion about my tree. He does have a tree removal service so I hope that doesn't bias his opinion. At least he is an expert according to th international society of arborist. Illhavetouse my intuition with what he has to say about the tree.
It's in the mid 50s this morning and I'm cold. Anyone surprised?
Hi Carol, sorry you are cold. Our early morning temps have been in the 40s and 50s. Do you have plenty of sweat clothes to layer up?
I was up at 3:30 this morning. Actually was awake since 2:30. So, got up and paid some bills. Having a cup of tea. Sorted through junk mail and good mail. Now will go and look at a quilt magazine and see if I can get sleepy. Not working today so can get a little shuteye later.
Hope everyone is doing well.
Carol, I love your pictures on this post. I just made the last picture my desktop background. So glad Chloe put it up.
Rene, r you back from Cape Cod? Tell us about your trip.
Gets had plumbing problems at her house so we are at my house. I'm happy to be here. I missed being here. It's hard to believe but my house is the least cluttered, thanks to Lisa.
I'm having trouble visiting the camp because I know some trees are going to have to go and that depresses me. The tree guy still hasn't come to see the situation.
Is everyone OK? drop in and leave a line. don't let the swamp go completely dry. thank you jan for h keeping it damp.
I wish , like FB we could post pics with our comments. That would add to the pleasure of our blog. Maybe one day Google will catch up.
Wouldn't a Hillary Cliniton/Elizabeth Warren be. Dream ticket for President?? I think it would! I think two women running this country would be ideal. women have been running households for ever. That's probably harder than running a country.
Carol, go onto my fb page and click on the thing I just posted. moving pics from a guy who filmed the sky for 7 days. It is beautiful. watch with sound if you can. Wish I could post it here.
So sorry about your tree. That is so sad. Trees are truly a gift.
Yes, a ticket with Hillary and Elizabeth would be a dream. I am tired of men running this country.
I've been back from Cape Cod for a couple weeks now. We rented a condo right across the street from the beach that looks across the Vineyard Sound in Falmouth, MA. We could see the ocean from any window. And we could see Martha's Vineyard looking out the front. We had a balcony and sat there every morning eating breakfast while watching the waves.
We usually travel all over the Cape when we vacation there. But this trip we wanted to just relax. We mostly stayed around town, sat on the beach, and sat on our balcony. Ate lots of great food and drank some great wine.
Craig put up an interesting blog post on Hillary and Warren this morning over on TrailMix.
I understand the "dream" ticket aspect… but I think in reality it'll never happen. Hillary is probably the most powerful female on the planet at this moment. IMO, she will not share the stage. I think she will pick someone to be her vice president who will be absolutely no threat to her authority. Elizabeth Warren is not afraid to speak her mind…. hence, she doesn't fit that bill.
Hillary is a corporatist. I have no illusions that she will be a "savior". But for me she will be a lot better that any Republican and I believe she will work hard on women's issues.
Renee, good to see you back here in the swamp. I went over and read the piece on Trail Mix. I have not been there for a time since my sister has been here. It was an interesting viewpoint and no doubt is true. I think Elizabeth is great. My husband really likes her too. I will vote for Hillary if she runs.
I had to sign up for Trail Mix again. I had been away too long.
A lazy Sunday around here. I have been doing some quilting. My sis is back in Dallas for a couple of weeks. I miss her.
I made us what I call a chicken/green chili pie last night. I heated my cast iron skillet in the oven until very hot and put in 3 flour tortillas to heat up good. I mixed up some chopped onions, green chilis, petite diced tomatos, pre-cooked chopped chicken, black beans, and a little green chili sauce for the liquid then layered the mixure with the tortillas and grated cheese then baked it all for about 30 minutes. It was tasty and now have some leftovers for tonight. It was delicious with a little sour cream and guacomole on top.
I spent 4 days at my house. Got to sleep in my expensive bed. Can't say that my body feels any better. Woke up sore all over with a crick in my neck
Finally, after dozens of calls got the tree expert to call back. Bad news. The tree has to go. It's hollow and dead inside. Very sad. I find it depressing to go to the camp , knowing that the trees have to go.
I am so sorry about your trees Carol. So very sad.
Me too Jan but I got several opinions and they all said the tree aw dead and hollow I don't want it falling on my camp or the neighbours either since I know the status of the trees, I'd be responsible
Happy Halloween to those who think its a fun day. I am glad it is Friday and we can hand out treats to little ones or old ones who drop by later this evening. I read an article that said that old(er) folks give out better and more treats so we are expecting lots of kiddos. John is an optimist - he bought 4 bags of candy - or he just wanted to make sure there was some left over for him. :)
We had lots of leftover candy from last night. We had about 10 kiddos stop by. John wore his Darth Vader outfit.
Our conversation a short while ago:
John - "where did you hide the candy?"
Me - "On the dining room table"
Neither me nor most of my friends have tick or treaters come by our houses. Good thing since I would eat all the left over candy.
We all do already keep a supply of candy anyway.
And my ice cream. I still eat several cups of ic cream every day . Not putting on ny weight .
I'm waiting on a nap to take me.
Just lost a long post. Won't retype it.
Both of my teams lost this weekend. Hungry but don't have a clue what for. Tied of trying to think of something to eat. Tied of fast food.
With all the different likes and dislikes of everyone here, it's impossible to come up with something to cook.Greta is a eggy. The kid hates all veggies. Karen likes most everything ., like me.
Chloe, still waiting for some Emma pics.
Greta's plumbing is finally fixed. Had to hire another plumber, one who knew what he was doing.
Still haven't had the trees cut. The tree guy had family issues. .i get depressed going to the camp , know they will have to come down. Will change the atmosphere out there. All the moss will go also. It won't look the same.
I read on Facebook that Hillary had a brain tumor. Is that true?
Carol, I do remember that the news reported she had a concussion from a bump to the head. I have never heard she had a brain tumor. I think the 'pubs are trying to make something more out of her fall.
I am sorry about the trees. In the small town where Steve lives, a tornado went through some years ago and took out many of the old and beautiful trees. It is so sad when this happens but mother nature has her own plan.
I hate plumbing problems. We have had our share in this older house.
Jan, I hunk it was a Taste less joke about Hillary.
Whe re. Is the rest of our gang.? You don't need anything profound to say to drop a line. I just would like to hear from my friends.
Boy woke up in a good mood this morning. I told him how much I liked that personality. Hope that doesn't mess it up. I still don't understand teenagers, especially aspies. My big sis said that is what they call themselves.
Chloe I suspect that u don't like this weather either? We both don't like frigid temps.
ReneE, how!'s your new. W.eaving project going.? /till notsatis. Fie. F. Now. I5h it?
Wish wi could type again. I guess that part of ny brain is still broken, no likely to heal either. Ice cream ain't the antidote either. I so want to be bac to normal.pipe dram.
Renee what is your FCC book name? I check Ithaca others on their pages. I o now comment there, occasionally.
Am ready to go home but still no comfortable being home alone or leaving Great. Here alone with the boy

too...
Weather has been holding, but the 'polar vortex' is about to
reach us...right now, they are showing snow falling in New Jersey
but it can't amount to much since it will get into the 40s...
Let's see we are going to NYC in December to see the play 'Beautiful'...that's a musical about Carol King's life...
Carol, I think 13-15 was one of the toughest time with my sons. They are dealing with so many changes and issues in their lives at this age. They are trying to figure out who they are. Remember that Eric Ericson said this is the stage of Identity vs Confusion.
We got our first snowfall last night… it's only about an inch and I'm sure it'll melt later today. I'm all ready for the colder temps.
I made my Xmas shippings and deliveries of scarves to my galleries this past week. I can breathe a bit easier now. Although I do have a craft show starting 2 weeks from today.
After the show I can go back to experimenting with new work. I've almost nailed it… a combination of hand painted rayons, bamboo, and novelty yarns. Although finding enough hand painted rayons may be a problem. That's ok… I'm still doing chenille scarves too.
Carol…
I've never heard of "easy" teenagers. It's a time of wanting to break away from family and yet needing them. It's a time of self discovery but not having the confidence to express one's self. Greta's kid is just going to go through what he has to… and Greta is responsible for him… not you.
Coreen… lucky you! Hope you have a great time seeing Beautiful. I've seen Carole KIng live in concert 4 times and she was great.
Jan… just want to say Hi.
Renee, your newest creations sound lovely. Hope you will post pictures of them here.
Renee, so right about teens.
I remember my nephew when he was a preteen and he was not very likeable at that age. He was better as a teenager.
Boy, Shay , has his good days but they just don't last. It's always about that damn computer. I recommend that parents don't let their kids get addicted to computer games. It would save a lot of grief.
Chloe, I miss you and your wise comments. Please put up a Emma post. We would all like to see her and how she has grown.
Carol, I bet you are watching the LA and AR football game right now. We, of course, are watching. John is so funny when he watches his teams play. He yells just like he is at the game.
Greta just finished having her rotator cuff repaired .. She tore it when she fell and broke her wrist. It's a quite painful surgery.
Damn. She has bad luck
Having tech problems again
