Fresh Vitamin C

Main functions of Vitamin C:
  • Immune stimulation
  • Anti-allergic
  • Antioxidant
  • “Cement” for connective tissues
  • Wound healing
  • Teeth and gum health
  • Aids iron absorption
  • Eye health

The problem with Vitamin C is that it is a very unstable vitamin.  Vitamin C is sensitive to heat, light and oxygen. In food it can be partly or completely destroyed by long storage or overcooking. Refrigeration can substantially diminish vitamin C loss in food.

Vitamin C is in most of the multivitamins or can be purchased by itself but what are the standards for those vitamins?  There aren't many.  When it comes to selecting a good source of vitamin C, only in God I trust.  I have bushes full of the vitamin.  These are satsuma bushes.  I pick fresh fruit in the morning, juice it and drink it immediately.  That way I know it hasn't had time to degrade.  If you don't grow your own, go to the local farmer's market and get fruits and veggies the local people grow.

My fruit this year is much smaller than usual.  I think that was the result of the drought we had for most of the summer.  I still have more than enough for myself and to give away.
This is a pic of my Spring greens I use for my salads.  I shot a pic of them a while back when they were just sprouting.  Now I can go out and cut leaves for my evening salad.  I have several planters with mixed salad greens growing.
The bell pepper I had in the summer died from too much rain even though for most of the summer we had a drought.  It grew well when I could control the amount of water it got but when we had three weeks of rain, it died.   I bought and planted another one. I just picked my first pepper and there are several news one growing.  I should be able to keep this one all winter long if I bring it in when and if we have a freeze.

Jan, I could tell you were pushing me to put up a post so I did.

That eye health function of vitamin C is particularly significant for me right now. I did make an appointment with another eye doc to get a second opinion. My current doc is popular and just about everyone I've asked uses him. But...most everyone I've asked who had a cataract removed also had that posterior capsular opacification, at least with the first eye done. Makes you wonder. It is a common complication but really....should everyone have it?? My appointment with the new guy is on Tuesday. I do need the other cataract removed but I'm nervous about getting it done. I now have one cloudy eye and the other one spotted. It's distressing to me.

I just started picking my satsumas a couple of days ago. I thought that I needed to wait until they were more yellow. They are now about half yellow and half green. I started picking some anyway and they are just as sweet as they are when they are all yellow. I'll just use what I need, when I need them. They can stay on the brush until, and if, we have a hard freeze.

I grow my produce organically except for the fertilizer. I use a commercial chemical fertilizer, ie Miracle Grow. The only organic ones seem to be blood meal and bone meal. Those scare me more than the commercial stuff. But...I do not use any pesticides.

Carol said...

Now if you guys have some pics to put up, please do. Like I've said soooo many times before, when you put up new pics, the old ones are still there. Also, when we comment, we can't see the pics anymore anyway or why worry.

Jan, I've been waiting for your balloon pics and Coreen, I love your fall farmer's market pics. So get after it chicks.

I'm headed to Wally World for my usual boring groceries. That's where I go for them. I'll only splurge on a few things.

jan said...

Nice post Carol. Reminds us all that winter and flu season is coming so does not hurt to "up" our vit C intake.

Sorry about your eye carol. Neither John or I had that problem.

Carol said...

At Wally World. Will try Greek yogart and report. Did look up pros while shopping. Love iPhone.

Carol said...

Everyone was buying the Greek stuff. May or may not be significant. I did opt for the vanilla chocolate chunk.

The lettuce greens in that pic are called Mesclun. They are different types of lettuce. It had a high percentage of arugula. I hate arugula. I've heard it is one of Obama's favs. Don't agree with him there.

When my sprouts first came up, I identified the arugula and plucked it out. I didn't even like the smell on my fingers.

They call the greens spring greens but can't grow them in the spring here. It's too hot. Winter is the only time to grow lettuce here Last time I grew it, it lived through freezes and a light snow. It doesn't like to be too cold in the frig but it does ok with cold when it's growing.

Just watched a hair raising game, right down to the wire. It was my Saint's game. Phew, glad it's over.

There was an exciting finish. We were a touchdown ahead. They(Tampa Bay) were pushing toward the goal. They were getting closer. There was 4 seconds left and the Tampa Bay QB threw a pass, the receiver caught it in the end zone and I thought they had tied up the game. Actually they didn't. The receiver went out of bounds, at the end of the end zone and then came back in to catch the ball. They can't do that and catch the ball for a touchdown. Didn't know that but glad it's the rule. WE WIN!

Well Coreen, I gave the Greek yogurt a real test. It was creamier but maybe a tad tarter and that's one of the things I'm not that crazy about with yogurt.

I read that the Greek yogurt is supposed to be creamier, have more protein and less carbs. Have to watch out about the fat, it can be higher.

jan said...

John was reading me an article on greek yoghurt last night. It is strained several times so it is thicker and creamer, more protein and less sugar. About 2 times the protein in other yoghurts. Yes and more fat. the thing John was reading said as much fat as in 2 1/2 snickers bars. Supposed to keep one from getting hungry for some time.

Went to GD's house this morning. Took her and the 2 Greats to buy them some clothes at Costco. Have not done that before. My GD appreciated it. Little kids are expensive.

jan said...

My great GD is 2 3/4 and great GS is 2 months old. I took the GGD to potty while at Costco. She is doing good with that. I just had to lift her upon the potty. She can pull down her own pants. I did have to keep reminding her to hold my hand. At one time she said I was holding her hand too high, so I adjusted our handholding.

jan said...

Geesh! It has been many years since I had little kids.

Carol said...

What kind of lettuce do you use for your "big salad" Coreen? Do you have a fav?

Coreen said...

Just lost my post too...when I had to give a google password...

Coreen said...

Let's see what was the original...

Will pick up both FAGE & Chobani
greek yogurt to see if the hype is the real deal...

I do like yoplait yogurt, & yes it does have a tart aftertaste but
I like the sweet/sour taste...like my salads with fruit, red wine vinegar/gorgy cheese...

The ads say there is nonfat, 2% & regular so not sure what the taste
difference would be with the nonfat...want to try the honey & fruit flavored ones...would not
go for the chocolate mix since I find that most of the time they use dark chocolate which I don't like...too bitter...I only like milk chocolate taste...

Coreen said...

Glad you tried it Carol...will you try it again?....

The reports are that FAGE & Chobani
are the best of the group...I will let you know...

I use red lettuce in salad, sometimes red & green leaf, but usually only red lettuce...told you I switched from berries to apples which gives me the sweet/sour mix I like...

Spring greens are popular in restaurants around here, but have only seen it in bag
mixes in grocery stores & honestly
the bagged lettuce mixes taste doesn't appeal to me...no
taste really...

Coreen said...

About vitamin C...I take it daily along with my glucosamine/chondroitin, garlic, D,
etc...I know you don't like vitamins...

Coreen said...

Have no idea what a satsuma fruit
is...it looks like an orange...

Carol said...

You snuck in again Jan. What's the hand holding for? To keep her from falling in?

Carol said...

Dang, you snuck in too Coreen. I bought the Chobani. Read it also is not as high in calcium. I need calcium.

Carol said...

Did you notice there were no seeds in my
Satsumas. I think they compare to Mandarin oranges Coreen.

Carol said...

Coreen, I do like vitamins but just don't particularly trust those who make them..because they aren't many rules. Even the pharm cos cheat when they think they can get by with it. Several years back I listened to this congressional hearing on food supplements. It scared me.

If we can find ways to get the vitamins naturally, we need to do it.

Carol said...

Coreen, the Jets/Patriots game is also pretty exciting. I'm pulling for the jets.

Carol said...

And they blew it.

Carol said...

Here's the article I read about the yogurts while shopping today:

Greek Yogurt Vs. Regular Yogurt: Which Is More Healthful?

jan said...

Carol, I was holding her hand in the store, not on the potty. Did not make myself clear, did I?

Carol said...

Jan, I'm LOL. I was wondering if there was some hand holding requirement when a little kid was on the potty that I wasn't aware of. You did kinda jump from her being on the potty to hand holding. I'm easily confused.

Carol said...

Coreen, I don't like salad in a bag. The organic spring greens I buy come in a deep plastic tray. I make sure it has a long expiration date and looks fresh.

The LI medium is on TLC on Sundays. I'm now recording her shows. I think she's neat. I also like her family.

Some of us are fascinated with spiders. We don't necessarily like them or want one of them on us but they do impress us. Ivy was the first to post "web watching" on this blog or maybe it was on TM. Seems like someone, I think maybe Jack, was recently talking about a spider on TM unless he was using it as an analogy. That's possible with politics. My intimate interest in spiders goes back many years when I had one hang out on my shower wall for about 6 months. Then I closely monitored and documented my first spider at the camp. She was super sophisticated.

Now I have this spider behind my washing machine. My washer is on my back porch. There's a florescent light behind the washer and the spider has this web kinda attached to the shelf above the washer and in front of the light. I have to turn on that light to use my washer and dryer at night and I'm careful not to disturb the spider web..if you can call it that.

In the human world..we have people who are smart and not so smart, organized and not so organized, neat and not so neat. I think that I have learned that the same applies to the world of the arachnids. It only figures, why should they all be smart?

Usually spider webs are extremely intricate. Well, my latest PS, (porch spider) is one of those unorganized, not so smart, and not so neat spiders. Her web is unorganized, ineffective and pretty dusty. It's a wreck, a line here, a line there with no rhyme or reason for the layout. I can't see how it could trap a single prey. It doesn't look like she has made a single improvement to it since I first saw it. She's got to be one of nature's intellectually challenged spiders. I'm not even sure how she survives. Since her web is in front of a light, there are tiny light bugs that fly in and out of it and around it. They are like tiny little planes doing tricks in and out of the little spider's web. They seem to be making fun of her.

I've thought about vacuuming up her and her pitiful wreck of a web but once I've established a relationship, it's hard to just terminate it...at least on purpose. And I can kinda relate to her unorganized and not so neat qualities.

I tried to do the debate and just couldn't stomach very much of it. I'll catch it on the comedy review. I'm sure they'll be able to find something to make fun of but it will be a challenge.

Instead of the debate, I decided to watch DWTS that I programmed to record every week. I did that at the beginning of the season when I thought that I would be more interested. I prefer to watch the recording so I can FF thru most of it.

I really liked Gilles at the beginning of the season but he's now getting on my nerves. He seems to be really in love with himself. The judges also are in love with him. I did enjoy watching Carrie Ann fall out of her chair. Probably because it was wet and she slipped out.

He got such good scores that I had to rewind to watch the dance again. He really had very little dancing to do in this routine. He mainly stood around looking all sexy but that rates with those judges. Well, at least they got rid of Bristol last week.

Carol said...

IMHO...Emmitt kicked Gilles' ass with his dance even though Gilles got higher scores. I guess those dimples add points.

jan said...

Carol, got a big laugh at your assessment of Carrie's fall. I felt bad for her. It did look like she hit the back of her head.

I do like Gilles' dancing. I disagree, I don't think he is so "in love with himself." He is gorgeous.

On the other hand, I think Emmet is a "hunk" too. He is just so much fun.

jan said...

The dancing was a amazing tonight. All of it. I do believe the judges were awful nice to Kirstie.

jan said...

We watched the first part of the debate. I am just tired of it all now.

Carol said...

I really tried to watch that debate and actually got through a good bit of it. As I was trying to suffer through it I thought...will this make a difference in my vote...NO, will I learn anything I want to learn...NO. I was mainly watching for something entertaining to happen. Then I realized that if anything interesting does happen..it will be replayed thousands of times on many different networks.

I'm still voting for the better of the two choices..IMHO. Don't trust either. Trust Obama just a tad more. They are both beholding to BIG money but at least Obama doesn't have to worry about running again so he might come through with some of his HOPE and CHANGE.

Carol said...

Heard on the news the last two days that "doctors" say that there is no proof that it is safer for children to eat organically grown foods.

When they want to get us to take something seriously they say.."doctors say thus and such". After 40 years of observing doctors I can say with great confidence that that doesn't impress me in the least. IMHO doctors know very little about health. I doubt there is even much about HEALTH in their curriculum.

They know less about nutrition. I base my preference for organic foods on the science of what chemicals are involved or not involved in growing organic. I have studied pesticides, how they work to kill insects and that they do have a cumulative effect in the body. Also on what chemicals are involved in raising the animals we eat for food. If you only eat seafood, you have to consider what it is swimming in and where it is swimming.

Of course..a big factor is who monitors to make sure what they say we are buying is actually what we are buying. Probably no one.

This morning HLN had a short interview with Alice Cooper. Remember him? Rock, hard rock, heavy metal. He's a couple of years older than me and he looks pretty good and is still on tour. He said he's been touring for over 40 years. His band travels together on a bus. He says what keeps him going is that he brings his golf clubs and plays golf everywhere he goes. He plays golf during the day and performs at night.

He also said something that hit home with me. He said that no matter how rotten he may feel it all goes away when he gets out on stage to perform. He thinks it's continuing to perform is what keeps him young.

I always thought of teaching as a type of performing. I tried to make my lectures entertaining in some way which always included humor. And I noticed that even if I felt bad, had some ache or pain, it went away when I started my lectures and often didn't come back after. Even with my last job, it was a sort of mini performance. I have worried that not having that mission in life would make me age at a faster rate. The only problem with the last job is that with all the stress involved with that job, it negated all the positive effects of the work. I aged twice as fast over the last 7 years.

Carol said...

One more thing this morning. I heard that Honey Boo Boo will be on Dr Drew tonight. I decided that would be worth recording.

Coreen said...

Do you really think that buying organic foodstuffs is so
much more beneficial...

Not sure there is a significant or any real benefit, there are so many sources of contamination to live with...

How to balance your concern for organic against...(I will harp on it again, maybe it will sink in)..an even more proven destructive chemical, pesticide, toxin...& that would be another pet peeve...cigarettes...not to mention the cost (well maybe not in your neighborhood, but I'm told
that it costs about $10/pack here)...

Coreen said...

The debate...finally they are finished...

For partisans, again each side will see enough in their guy's performance to walk away content(though romneyites likely wanted their guy to attack, which he did not)...& yes I know the instant polling says obama won...

The perception while watching (I found it tedious, so that I was half listening in a very short time)...

I thought Romney was playing it to be calmer, not argumentative...maybe he was advised that the last time he was too aggressive...so he toned it down, which did not please his team...

Obama appeared angry, irritated & the split screen showed clearly obama looking annoyed...

He glared all night, contemptuous of romney & it showed...but in the end, do I think this really moved anyone to either...not likely...

Just think in 2 weeks it will be over...& remember (said it before & will say it again) it really makes little if any difference in your daily living whoever wins...

Coreen said...

If Alice Cooper looked good...all you need to remember is good cosmetic surgeon, restilyn, botox so many fountain of youth products...(too bad I don't have the nerve to try any of them, oh well)...

Carol said...

Coreen, if there is anything that we do that may not be healthy, it is no reason to just throw all other caution to the wind. I love my fat in some things and I eat way too much salt. I just want to eat some healthy things that might counter some of the other things I do that aren't healthy.

Some people don't eat meat because of the ethics involved with eating a cute animal. Some feel that seafood is sooo much healthier. That depends on what seafood you eat and where it lived. Shellfish is full of cholesterol and God only knows the chemicals you consume when you eat seafood. With meat, we know a little more about what poisons we are consuming.

Carol said...

Actually Coreen, Alice Cooper never really looked good, not real attractive, but he feels good and that's what matter at our age.

Coreen said...

But you do know that your selectivity really doesn't change
healthwise....

Carol said...

Yes Coreen, those debates aren't going to make up or change any minds. They just give political junkies some new material to talk about and the comedians some new fodder for their comedy. I'm thinking that Dr Drew and Honey Boo Boo may be more fun.

Carol said...

Something else to ponder:

Is PMS a myth? One study says yes

What is your opinion about this issue?

Carol said...

No Coreen. I don't agree. What's new? I do think I can make a difference or I would throw total caution to the wind. You pick your poisons and I'll pick mine. And I'm certainly not shooting to live to be too old.

Carol said...

TW went to vote today. She told me that she was standing in a line of about 75 people. The people were buzzing with conversation. She was talking with the woman in front of her. She said, loud enough for most people to hear.."I guess I'm the only Democrat here" She wanted to get a rise out of them and she did. She said that all the talk immediately ceased to where you could hear a pin drop. The husband of the woman she was talking to, in front of her, spun his wife around and told her not to talk to TW.

TW said she looked both in front and behind her to see if anyone else acknowledged that they were Democrats and this old couple, quite a bit ahead of her in line, had their little old hands raised. They were either the only two other Dems there are the only two brave enough to admit it. TW got a big kick out of the incident. I enjoyed her story also.

What's even more interesting is...that most of those people in line probably belong to that 47% that Romney doesn't care about.

Carol said...

Oh, I heard Dr Drew discussing tonight's interview with Honey Boo Boo child and mom on HLN. He said this was his second interview with them. The first was back when they first started their show. He said they lived in Alabama. The idiot has interviewed them twice and doesn't even know where they live. I've never watched a single Boo Boo show and I do. Shame on him.

Dr Drew probably wants to fix the Boo Boo family. If the Boo Boo family was normal, they wouldn't have a Boo Boo show. They would just be another mid to lower class normal family in rural GEORGIA struggling to make ends meet. Now they out rate the presidential debate. Go Boo Boo's

jan said...

Watched part of debate last night.

It is no mystery who I am voting for. Obama. I was disappointed with Obama's performance in the first debate. I think he did very well in 2 and 3.

I am amazed tha the major Salt Lake City newpaper is endorsing Obama for a 2nd term.
Also, Massachusetts is not going for Romney.

Carol said...

I saw the Boo Boo interview with Dr Drew. It was kinda hard to watch. It was a little chaotic. The Boo Boos aren't into that kind of interview and it showed. Someone called in to tell Mama that she hoped they had an agent so they wouldn't be taken advantage of. Mama said, no she chose not to have an agent because an agent would have them running all over the country and that wasn't what they wanted.

They are just down to earth country folk, they are into enjoying their family fun and aren't in to making lots of money. I respect Mama Boo Boo for that. She is totally aware that this is likely a short term fad and could be over any day and she was OK with that. She made sure the focus was on all the kids and the family, not just little Boo Boo child and she is putting away trusts for the kids for their education. I acquired a new respect for the Boo Boos.

Carol said...

I did fast forward thru DWTS. I tried to listen to the judge's critiques but it's like they wake up in a new world every few minutes. I can't see how they are watching those dances. I think they are just tuned in to their hormones and score each on how horny they get with the dance. They all have the hots for Gilles. He got one of the better scores and did the least dancing. All he needs to do is flash his dimples.

In the group dance, when the guys all had very little clothes on, Gilles had the least attractive body, IMO.

The peeps on PurDWTS think the judges are over scoring Gilles to keep him in the game. They are not impressed with his dancing either.

I went to see the new eye doc yesterday. He was taller and better looking and took more time to talk with me about what was going on.

He was a little surprised that I saw what I was seeing. I'm learning that with cataract surgery, it's not perfect. There are these imperfections because they have to put the new lens in the old sack but it's much better than looking through a clouded lens. Many people just don't notice this stuff like I am and eventually I may may even tune it out.

My vision with the new lens is much clearer than the other eye that still has the cataract and the flaws I see are more obvious when I'm in bright light or looking at a white lighted surface. It doesn't help to be painting white walls. If the little darker upside down V will just go away, I could keep the rest of the imperfections .

He didn't want to do my left eye until we wait to see how the right one turns out. He scheduled to see me again in 6 months. I asked him if he was now afraid of doing my other eye because I'm more sensitive to the imperfections and he laughed. I bet he is. I did tell him that I didn't blame my other doc for what happened and knew is was fairly common but I wanted someone to talk to me about it instead of being evasive.

jan said...

Carol, thanks for telling us about the interview Dr Drew had with the Boo Boo family. I watched some of the episodes.

jan said...

Glad you saw another eye doc Carol. Keep letting us know how your eye is doing. I know when I had mine done, I had some weird things for a while too but it has been 3 years and don't remember. The other thing is I have ocular migraines and every so often see strange things anyway, but it happens with both eyes.

jan said...

sorry Carol, did it again. I get impatient and hit that "publish your comment' button before I even think about what I am doing.

Carol said...

Don't worry about the double post, it's easy to eliminate.

Carol said...

I have visual migraines also..not sure if it is what you have. Thank God it doesn't happen often because it scares me. I get this colorful visual image that interferes with my other vision. I think it's even there if I close my eyes. It doesn't last more than about 20 minutes or so. Is that what you experience? The first time it happened, when I didn't know what it was, I had my BP checked and it was off the chart. I think it was due to extreme fear.

My first episode occurred a couple of weeks after starting Prempro, the menopause hormone replacement. I went to see my eye doc then and he told me it was a visual migraine. I quit that drug in a hurry and never tried any more hormone replacement. Years later they came out with the info on the dangers of women taking hormone replacement. Some women insist on continuing hormones late in life.

My older neighbor insisted on taking Prempro. I tried to warn her. They found her after she had a stroke and laid on her bedroom floor for three days.

What I have found to be interesting and kinda neat is, often when I can't tolerate a drug, sometime later they find out the drug is dangerous. I appreciate the Universe's head's up.

jan said...

Carol, I have had ocular migraines or aura's since menopause. Mine last about 2-5 minutes and then I get this God-awful headache. I know to take Ibuprofen when the visuals begin. I see peripheral stuff that looks like lightning flashes but they are not flashes - they are zig zaggy things that are black and silver - no other color.

jan said...

They say that these visuals are due to fluctuating hormones. Who knows? I have never taken replacement hormones. I looked up all the research when I was about 50-51 so that was about 1992 or so. It all looked suspicious because the funders were drug companies. I did try them for a month or so and did not like the side effects so refused them and I had several docs try to get me to take them. Then the research came out against hormones.
You and I have always had good intuitive sense about this kind of stuff.

Carol said...

Jan, I've had the same visuals you describe but not the headache that follow...thank God! You are having the typical migraine with a visual aura.

I do get more regular headaches, not with any visual stuff, these days but they don't last long.

I found a new guy to help with the pool. My last pool guy mysteriously disappeared at the same time I was robbed. I didn't suspect him when it happened too many other suspects, but it did seem to be a weird coincidence that I couldn't get him to answer my calls or texts immediately after I was robbed. He never showed his face around here again.

He spent enough time around here for the year roomie lived here and he worked for my pool man who went to jail for DUI. After pool man went to jail, still there, he told me that the guy took over his business and cut him out. He was pissed. You really have a difficult time finding anyone to do work that doesn't have some kind of criminal record but then you have to remember that Louisiana has the highest incarceration rate in the world.

This new pool guy is nice and he spent time teaching me about my salt system. You know how I like people who take the time to teach. Since my first poolman was taking care of everything, I didn't need to know how everything worked. Slowly I was trying to learn and I did that amazing job fixing my own salt generator electronic box.

I met this new guy because I developed a leak in my pool plumbing. My pool is a money pit. He was helping out this new place I called to fix the leak. He has another full time job at one of the big box hardware stores but he did agree to help me out with the pool. I negotiated a deal for him to clean my pool, winterize and cover it. I was trying to figure out how I was going to do it. I pretty much knew how to cover it but the cover was way too big and heavy for me to do it without some significant muscle. He cleaned and prepared it and had two of his friends come over to help him with the cover. That only took them about 20 minutes. I'm so glad that is off my to do list.

I did finally find someone who I feel good about to do my camp work. It's going to be expensive but hopefully nice when it's all done. He can't start for several weeks. It's been sad not being able to go stay out there. After that robbery, I'm kinda scared to leave this place. I do have everything in my shop all chained together.

I do get to spend some day time out at the camp when I out there working but it's not the same with the kitchen and bathroom both under construction.

My poor boat has been all ready to go fishing and I can't find the time to go and I can't stay out at the camp so I can roll outta bed to go. It just doesn't seem fair. Why doesn't the Universe want me to go fishing? They have a local fishing show on here Sunday mornings. I watched it last week and just got depressed.

Carol said...

I had heard somewhere on the TV earlier this week that Trump had some big announcement that would CHANGE the election. I thought to myself at the time..I'd be more likely to be influenced if they announced that Honey Boo Boo child had a revelation. Now that would move me more than anything the Donald had to say. He's a goner.

Well...as I assumed it was more green slim out of the Donald's mouth. Really. It's obvious that lots of money corrupts brain cells. It's not going to be easy to force him into a home but I think the time is getting close.

I have come to the conclusion that many Republicans DO NOT believe in God or any higher power other than their own. No way they could. Now they do use this God idea all the time to control their people but IF...they believed in a God...they certainly don't believe in any kind of atonement for their actions. None.

Let's see...besides the Donald..there is Ann Coulter, a she devil. If you don't think she's evil...eeck! Too late for you.

And Rush L., I know you have to see his horns. He doesn't even try to hide them.

And these Republican guys running for office that can't quit talking about rape. Really. Is that a turn on for their group? It sooo shocks me that these guys can actually say some of what they say, OUT LOAD, where people can hear them. And it's not like you even have to be listening too close to hear this crap. They are obsessed with it. Do any of these guys actually hang out with any women??

We are enjoying our little pooch. She has really adapted well to our routine. I brought a baby scale home to weigh her to get her food regulated to a weight of about 6 - 6 1/2 lbs. I read on her vet report that that is an ideal wt for her. She is there now.

We will be going to NC again last of nov for about 5 days. A grandson will come and stay here for that time and I will pay him. He parks here anyway most days as he is working at the University.

I watched both my guys last night and they were great but I do have a bone to pick with Jon Stewart. He had two war hero, medics, on. He was angry because so often the skills our veterans learned while serving in the military don't translate to careers here at home. I do have sympathy for that problem and I do think we are responsible to help those veterans in every way we can to find a career or jobs. They risked their lives to serve this country.

Unfortunately he picked on nursing. He assumed because they were medics in war, a significantly challenging and heroic activity, it should translate to a nursing license here at home.

There's not a lot of crossover between being a war medic and being a nurse here at home. What one does as a medic in war is not a lot like what a profession or even technical nurse does here at home. I can see how it could translate to a paramedic job but I still see the necessity for the veteran to pass the same certification that others in that position have to pass.

I think some nursing programs do allow people who have acquired knowledge and skills elsewhere to challenge classes to prove they have that knowledge and those skills. At least they did when I was teaching.

Hi Jan. Glad DIL did well. Let us know how things turn out.

If you didn't see Stewart and Colbert last night, try to catch them today on the reruns of their shows. You'll get a good laugh. Coreen..not so much.
