Some pics along the Housatonic River between Stratford & Milford, CT...No allies in our rivers though...

Taken from Knapps Landing, a restaurant on the Stratford side of the river...

Stratford Harbormaster cruising along the river with his dog...
In the channel, power boats are required to power down so as not make a wake, & the harbormaster patrols the river to assist & protect boaters & enforce the laws...

Patio dining at Knapps Landing...

Looking out toward Milford as a small plane comes in to land at Sikorsky Airport, which is beyond the restaurant(in the flight path for planes)...Notice the lights in the right sky as it makes its approach over the patio...

Then the plane flies over us to the airport...

Looking out towards the mouth of the Housatonic which empties into
Long Island Sound...

A sailboat making its way home just before dusk...

A boat gas dock next to the restaurant...

Sunset looking toward Stratford...

Neat pics Coreen and thanks for putting them up. It gives the feeling that it's kinda comfortable outside there. Would like to pop over for lunch.

It can be pleasant along the river Carol...depends on whether there is a breeze...the night we were there it was very nice, but when you leave the banks/shore the heat & humidity are still around...at low tide along the river there a places where you get bit by tiny black nats...'noseeums'...a most unpleasant experience when they swarm around....

Carol said...

Noseeums is a Yankee term. When I first heard that term, it was from someone up your way.

We have plenty of seeums and noseeums around here. The mosquitoes are horrible right now because of all the rain. Some you can see, some are very tiny but they pack the biggest wallop. I've used the spray but they seem to feed on it.

Those little swarms sound like gnats. We have a problem with them in the spring when it's cooler and they can really bite and worse around the head. They are more attracted to light clothes and light hair. And itch!

About the Olympics...if the coverage is not live of the events, not really interesting...
the results are known long before the network shows the event...did not even bother to watch the swimming since it was
on hours after the world knew it all...

Coreen said...

Did you see the all star cast for DWTS?...

My favs would be Drew Lachey (he was terrific when he won) Apollo
Ohno & Kirstie (has she kept her weight off?) & Kelly Monaco sentimental, since she plays Sam on General Hospital the only soap I watched for ages & still try to keep up with on the soap channel at least until it too is cancelled ..it is supposed to be on for at least one more year...

my fav soap opera character on GH is Jason the mob enforcer/at times head of the family!!....years ago it was the head of a spy organization...Robert Scorpio...who has been brought back
sporadically...

Carol said...

Time difference makes that a problem and for you, you watch/listen to too many sports channels so you find out early. Except for that first swimming competition, I've been able to watch and be surprised.

Carol said...

And I see your boys threw Boston a bone yesterday. I saw that score late last night and had to look it up to see what the heck happened. I guess the grass was a little slippery after that rain. I'm familiar with that problem. They're showing today's game on ESPN tonight.

Carol said...

I was discussing DWTS with TW and we aren't too happy with their game plan for the next show. I don't want to see the reruns.

There's shake ups going on with Idol and AGT judges. I really haven't kept up with AGT in a while and I think I'm over AI also.

Carol said...

We have pretty sunny skies out right now. The chance of rain for next week is very low to none on some days. Of course they have said that before and it changed. I need some dry weather because they are pulling the roof off the camp this next week.

Carol said...

I've made a favorites list for all the channels covering the Olympics and in between chores, I surf thru them.

Late last night I was watching the men's gymnastics. I find that so beautiful. It's tense but fun to watch. Those guys are tough. Very interesting personal stories. Love that kid, Orozco from the Bronxs.

I watched this poor German kid doing his stuff on an injured ankle. I'm still worried about him. His name is Phillip Boy. He could barely walk but was out doing the floor exercises and slamming that ankle into the ground with his dismounts. I wonder if they are injecting him with some lidocaine. I would hope not. I think those kids would go thru torture just to continue to compete.

I think the ankle injury hits close to home for me. I still can't walk normal on mine and heaven forbid if I had to run. I injured mine last November, 8 months ago. I really didn't take proper care of it but I wasn't doing gymnastics on it either.

olympic Live stuff now on tv channels...

bravo mens tennis france & brazil

msnbc (though that is no longer the right name) women's archers
chinesse & Korean shooting arrows in pouring rain

nbcsn basketball men china/spain

nbc prime network mens volleyball
usa/serbia...

Carol said...

It's nice to see all these countries competing and hugging each other instead of shooting at one another.

And speaking of shooting...an American woman got a gold metal for skeet shooting. She also tied a world record.

Carol said...

What's interesting is that not only are these kids athletic, they are also unusually good looking.

jan said...

I see where ochocinco is changing his name back to his original name - he is also getting married. Remember him on 'Dancing' a couple of seasons ago

jan said...

Very nice pictures Coreen. I love pictures of sunsets/sunrises and pictures of water. Beautiful!

Carol said...

This morning when I got up, I went, got my coffee and turned on my life partner..the TV. Yeah, you read that right..the TV is my life partner. We talk, it doesn't listen but I do. Others may have that same kind of life partner. I can turn mine off but they can't. There are some advantages to having a TV as a life partner.

It isn't the best life partner and even though it wouldn't have been my first choice, I settled. I'm sure many other people have also settled when it comes to choosing life partners.

Well, I was trying to put in numbers on my remote to get to the channel I wanted to watch and missed hitting on of the numbers and ended up on PBS. In the short time while I was fumbling with my remote, I got mesmerized by what was on that channel. Ever have that happen?

Moyers and Company was on and Bill was interviewing this guy named Karl Marlantes. I couldn't change the channel. I didn't have enough time to hear all of the interview so I bookmarked it. You have to hear this guy!he Even if his topic doesn't turn you on, you have to hear this guy. I mean it.

He talks about what it is like to go to war. It's something that should be mandatory viewing for everyone.

Jan, I think you would be fascinated and I know John would want to hear it. Well, I think he would. I know you guys like Bill Moyers and may have already heard it.

I will come home today and finish listening when I have time.

He talks about what our soldiers deal with during and after going to war. Almost all of them can't share that with us even though it profoundly affects them. He is a Vietnam veteran.

Bill Moyers interviews Karl Marlantes, What It Is Like to Go to War

Carol said...

We all need to have the information in this interview because we all deal with veterans of war or their families every day. They may even be members of your family. Please check it out.

Carol said...

I'm sooo distressed about Jordyn Wieber being eliminated from competing in the Women's individual all around final. That is NOT fair. She got screwed! That rule that only two from each country can compete is ridiculous. Hey..I just invested a few hours watching her and I'm distressed. Can you imagine how she and her parents are taking it?

It was cute watching some of their parents in the audience. Some were mimicking their kid's routine from their seats. Some couldn't even watch.

Carol said...

Coreen..I'm wondering if the Red Socks having beaten your boys twice may have broken their slump. They needed the confidence builder of having beaten such a superb team as the Yankees. They will never catch up but time will tell if their luck will change. I know that won't please you but I bet Renee is happy.

jan said...

Carol, I watched/listened to the Moyers interview. It was powerful. There were so many things that Marlantes said that were enlightening and some that I already knew. Speaking of evil spirits (one came to him one night) and he got some stuff from an Indian Shaman - The Navajo have a special ceremony for all of their returning vets to help rid them of the evil they have been in touch with during combat. We can all learn from the Native Peoples.

Carol said...

Hey Jan, I briefly heard about that potion from the Shaman. I was thinking about looking for the recipe. LOL..couldn't hurt to have it on hand.

He has a book out on the same subject. It got wonderful reviews on Amazon. The San Francisco Chronicle review also said it should be mandatory reading.

jan said...

I think I will get his book.

Carol said...

Morning peeps. My guys are making great progress on Owl Camp roof. When I went by after work yesterday, it was ready for the metal.

I haven't seen or heard a peep from my insurance since they came to look at the damage last week.

Carol said...

Yesterday, a guy who works for the agency that employs me came to see me. They want to add another assignment to my job. They want me to take off a half day to see people at a work release. The work release doesn't want to use a cent of their profit to pay for the healthcare of their clients and the hospital wants to slow some of their traffic. They have been hit hard with budget cuts. Soooo.. they want to take another slice out of what's left of me.

I said just because they gave me a half day to see those patients, it wouldn't decrease my workload at the prison. I'd still have to see the same number and work even faster to do it. I'm already working 7 days a week even though I can do it in my jammies on my days off.

I said no and I mean nooooooooooo! I'll quit first. I told the guy that I've already been abused enough, find another sucker.

They just don't realize how many of our peeps don't come in on nights, weekends and holidays because I'm available to take care of 99% of the problems.

Carol said...

I saw a guy yesterday, my last patient and just before my visit with the guy from the hospital. He had fallen in a red ant hill during his arrest. His forearms were almost completely covered with those red ant pustules. I wanted to cry and he really wasn't complaining. This happened over the weekend and I just saw him yesterday. Why wasn't he screaming??? I get one or two and I'm dancing.

I started him on an antibiotic with an anti-inflammatory action, an antihistimine, and he was on an NSAID. I checked on using a steroid but it said that might be too dangerous, may increase the change of secondary infection. That may have been a good plan if he had just received those bites. I worried about him all night. I woulda sent him in to the ER but that was kinda late and I knew they wouldn't know any more than I would about what to do...sometimes less.

Carol said...

I was too exhausted and stressed to comment yesterday.

I watched some of the Olympics last night. I was glad to see that my girl gymnasts won a gold yesterday. I'm glad I knew before I watched them perform because I couldn't have handled watching otherwise. Couldn't have handled any more tension, I was full already.

jan said...

Carol, good for you that you told that guy from your agency that you won't take on another job. Proud of you.

After next week, I am taking 3 weeks off. We have business to take care of in OK and AR so are spending at least a week doing business and seeing family, then off to Asheville for a few days for some R&R and classes. But the classes are fun.

I have a GD who is flying in on Sat. She is staying a week with us and then she will travel with us to Tulsa and then to Little Rock to get her home. She is 19 and in college so have to get her back to AR by 8/20.

jan said...

Those red ants sound really bad. That guy is lucky he has had you to care for him Carol. You take your job to "heart" I can tell.

jan said...

I did see some shots of the USA girl gymnast team. They were awesome.

Carol said...

Well, another interesting day today. Actually all my days are interesting even though some are interesting good and others interest bad. Today, probably interesting in the middle of those two extremes.

I saw my ant bite guy. I told them I wanted to see him every day until I was sure he was out of the woods. He looked a tad better if anything could be better. I'm cringing over his problem while he's kinda matter of fact about it. I asked him if he was human. I told him not too many normal humans would tolerate those bites like he did.

I was still concerned if there was anything else I could do to help him out. I read that there have been incident of rhambdomyolisis occuring with severe ant bites and drew lab to check on that. No results yet.

I decided to call the ER to see who was on and if it was someone who I thought might be more knowledgeable than I am. It wasn't. I know they do have a derm clinic that sees patients maybe once a month and checked and low and behold it was today. I thought that was a miracle. Nurses there said he had 55 patients to see in half a day and wouldn't let me talk to him. I put up my best plea and he came to the phone, I was on iphony because I was coming back from lunch. The dang phone immediately dropped the call. I called back and he was back seeing patients and they said they would give him the message and I never heard from him.

I then realized I was on my own. With my 11 years of experience working in corrections and all the lesions/rashes I have seen and treated, I ought to be able to pass a board certification in dermatology.

I decided to add some silvadene cream to my treatment plan. It's used to treat severe burns and with all those pustules on his arms, when they rupture, he will look like a burn victim.

Jan, I do take my job to heart but the same as I know you do.

Carol said...

Then, this afternoon, I see one of my regulars, one legged prostitute lady. You have to remember me talking about her. She's the lady that I was afraid to give a ride to when she asked for one. I was at the grocery store to pay my electric bill. I was nervous about giving her a ride for many reasons but one was because I had left my driver's license in my fishing pants.

She's the reason I ran back to the house and decided to feed Fiddler. I figured God might be testing me and I didn't want to fail two tests in one week. I had previously decided to let that stray cat find another neighbor to take care of her. I wasn't living here then. Remember that story?

Carol said...

I had heard that she was run over on one of the main drags here in town shortly after that incident. Evidently not.

Poor thing. She came home from the hospital drugged or drunk and her brother had her arrested for being irritating. She lives with her mom who she shares the rent with. Her brother also lives with them and he has the only vehicle in the family so mom took his side in the matter. That way she has both a roof over her head and a car. Just thank God for your blessings. Not sure if that lady was better off not getting run over.

Anyone depressed yet?

jan said...

Carol, I have lots of families to get depressed over. However, I too have been in a bad place a few times. We each have our burdens to bear. There is not much you can tell me that can make me depressed.

Carol said...

Jan, even though you wouldn't know it to look at ya, you are a pretty tough cookie. You know when to hold um and know when to fold um.

jan said...

...ha ha ha Carol. "Right back atcha" as Ellen often says.

jan said...

"Well, another interesting day today. Actually all my days are interesting"

I like what you said above. At our age Carol -although I am a few years older than you - What more can one ask for but to have a job that makes our days interesting.

Carol said...

Jan, it sounds like you have some fun activities coming up.

Carol said...

I'm following the Drew Peterson trial. It's already a fiasco. It turned my stomach to watch him laughing on TV when one of his wives was found dead and the other missing. He found defense attorneys who were just like him...laughing at his circumstances also.

It looks like there already might be a mistrial. Disgusting. He may end up getting away with murder.

Carol said...

Soooo Coreen, Jeter likes us ladies so much he wants to join us? Yes, I know it was a joke.

Carol said...

I'm glad that the judge didn't rule a mistrial for Peterson. Phew! Some of the things the State is revealing thru some of the witnesses is pretty damning IMO but many of the commenters on TV are blowing that circumstantial evidence off like it's no big deal.

jan said...

Have not been watching the Peterson trial but am glad to hear no mistrial. Thanks for keeping us updated on the trial Carol.

Coreen said...

Not so sure it was a joke Carol, more like some demented hacker who
was taking a shot at Derek...or in other words a loser...

Coreen said...

There was a story about louisiana
tech's mascot dieing as a result of
a vet's asst leaving the poor thing out in the hot sun for much too long...it made the NY paper...now you know how I detest
those that harm animals...& yes this may have been caused by sheer stupidity & ignorance...

this along with all the chick fil a
nonsense...& no we don't have those
fast food places here...

And the olympics again watching the
results is less than exciting...but I have watched most of the u.s.a. medal events...at least the swimming & the gymnasts...still don't like the
tape delay...but then again nbc's
ratings in the stratosphere...

Carol said...

Coreen, I just heard a little blurb on the news this morning about a dog and heat. I ran fast through the room because I can't even listen to stories like that. Your post explained it. How awful. So many people are soooo dumb when it come to animal care but a vet asst??? He should be fired and never let near another animal.

Carol said...

But don't blame Louisiana. We do love our dogs here, more than we love people. I told you I had a young inmate who got 7 years in prison for purposely killing an old dog.

Carol said...

Some states don't give a person that much time for killing their wives.

Coreen said...

Here's hoping Nessie is alive & well...need to keep the legend & the tourists coming...
New Loch Ness Monster photo

Carol said...

And Coreen, it won't surprise to you that our Chic fil a joints were loaded with customers Wednesday to show support for the CEO. Gay marriage is not real popular around these parts. Kinda curious if there will be any chics kissing there tonight. I think tonight is kiss a chic night. I'd recommend against it.

My opinion is if people don't like what the guy said, don't eat there. I don't agree with any boycotts or keeping the business out of any towns..that is as long as they don't discriminate against their employees or customers.

Carol said...

And I'm down to recording the Olympics and fast forwarding thru most of it. They are almost past what I like to watch anyway.

Carol said...

I've pretty fascinated with the Peterson trial. His defense team are acting like the 3 stooges. They are such show offs that they are making mistakes. Fine with me.

Today Salvo's sister testified that Drew told her she would not live to get her kids, to get any money and he would make it look like an accident. She begged her sister to take care of her kids if she was killed.

Some rule would not allow the witness to testify that he said he would make it look like an accident. One of the dumb defense attorneys brought it up. Several asked that attorney if it was a mistake. He wouldn't admit it was.

Carol said...

It's come out that the Co shooter did tell his shrink something that scared her. She brought that info to a threat assessment group at the U. It was for some reason dropped there. I have this feeling that she is going to end up being the McQueary of this tragedy...concerned, reported it..bottom in pecking order but holding the bag for the blame.

Carol said...

I was pondering something...

There should be a new word or maybe syndrome called "McQuearyed" It means that you saw something that greatly disturbed you, you went to an authority with your hair on fire(his red hair did look like that), they did nothing and you took a big part of the fall for it.

Carol said...

Did anyone hear about any crazy stuff going down at Chic fil A last night?

I don't care for their food. We didn't even have it around here for years. TW introduced it to me. She liked it. I didn't. TW is kinda a gourmet but she'll eat some really nasty stuff, well, at least by my standards. Not that I think Chic fil A is nasty..it's just not my cup of tea.

Coreen said...

A great pic...
Full moon makes it six

Coreen said...

Here's more of the pics & the name of the photog...impressive...
more pics of the full moon, olympic rings

Carol said...

That is a super cool shot. Do you think he had that all planned out? Aren't those rings hanging off a bridge? I guess the photographer must have positioned him/herself until the moon was in the right place in relationship to the rings. Whoever it was didn't have a lot of time to do it since that the moon continues to rise.

Carol said...

With my digital cameras, I have never been able to get any good moon shots and I've tried. I just don't know all the directions on how to operate those cameras and finding them is almost impossible. Even when I did find some, it was like reading Chinese. I also needed a tripod which I know I have at least two of those. I couldn't find them when I wanted them but now that I'm home, I have come across one of those. Probably won't know where it is next time I want it.

I wish I could get someone to inventory my places so I could find what I want when I need it. I bet I have about two of everything but can never find it. Couldn't find the first so I got a second, then couldn't find it. Anyone else have that problem?

Carol said...

I just read some stupid article about how you can tell if someone is gay or straight by if their pupils dilate when they see someone they like. What a bunch of poop.

Yes, pupils will dilate when there is a little surge of adrenalin. That can occur with any intense emotion. I've been aware of that for years and use it in my work. I watch pupils when I talk with my particular clientele. It can be important. If I've just pissed them off, I have caught that reaction. You can watch cats when you are playing with them and notice that just before they pounce, their pupils dilate. Ever seen that Coreen?

Coreen said...

You must have really good eyesight Carol...can't say I ever noticed
changes in people's pupils, guess I don't get that close up to see such changes...cats
eyes do change with exposure to light, but never noticed changes when they are playing or ready to attack...

Coreen said...

AS far as cameras & taking pics of moon/stars...haven't had any luck,
probably need a camera with more than point & shoot capabilities...

jan said...

As for moon shots, never able to capture the exact image I see.

Yes Carol I do that a lot. Am looking for something, cannot find it, go out and buy what I have been looking for, and then find what I have been looking for soon after I buy it.

jan said...

Never think to look at people and whether their yes dilate or not.

jan said...

yes=eyes

jan said...

Picked up 19 y/o GD at airport last night. She lives in AR. Great to see her. We took care of her a lot when she was a baby until she was 6 and we moved to another part of AR. She feels more like a daughter than a GD. Carol, she is Steve's oldest daughter. Her mom has MS.

Georgia said...

Carol, what is the starting pay for an inventory job? With my OCD, it would be a walk in the park for me if the price is right.

Coreen said...

As for chick fila...not likely I would buy a chicken sandwich, but apparently they make a peachshake that is pretty good...did you &/or
TW ever try that...

As far as the dustup...I keep hearing the media equating the comments by the owner to blacks being denied service by businesses in the past...just this a.m. george s. made comments that suggested that w/o actually saying it directly..& geraldo on his radio
show also kept trying to equate this to the civil rights years...

it is my understanding that there is not one single suggestion that this business has ever discriminated against anyone, customers, employeees, vendors, etc..so the media spin is so disengenuous, but what else is new...

as far as the actual controversy, we agree Carol, the owner can say what he believes & if you don't agree don't go to his restaurant, your choice...but to have the holier than thou politicians run their mouths off, like rahm & menino talking about values, saying keep out or get out of my town...give me a break...to me they are phonies, pandering to their base constituents...& the NY councilperson quinn sending a letter to nyu to urge them to shut down the chick fil a there is offensive...& I do know that christine quinn is gay, she just got married & likely will run for & stands a good change of becoming nyc mayor....

Carol said...

A peach shake? That sounds goood. TW, do they have peach shakes there?

Carol said...

Jan, did you tell us that you had a cataract removed? I'm pretty sure I have one in my right eye. The vision out of my right eye is like I have on fogged up glasses. I want to take it out and wipe it off.

Several years ago I had an eye exam and they said I had the starting of cataracts. Haven't been back. I don't want someone poking anything in my eye. I know they don't put you to sleep and they might have to tie my down to come after one of my eyes.

Watching TV makes it worse.

Carol said...

Buckle your seat belt Coreen, there may be a few strong gusts coming your way.

Carol said...

If anyone tunes in here and are bored with the Olympics, there is the Hall of Fame game on NFL network. Saints play Arizona.

Carol said...

That was horrible about that Sikh temple attack. I have never heard of that religion. I looked it up in Wiki and the religion has a pretty cool philosophy. From what I read, I could follow their philosophy but not the outfits.

" Sikhs believe in the equality of humankind, the concept of universal brotherhood of man and One Supreme God"

"... work diligently and honestly, meditate on the holy name (Waheguru), and share the fruits of labors with others. The idea that human beings must work for a living and play an active role in society is the basis of this philosophy. The guiding principles of the Sikh faith are Truth, Equality, Freedom, Justice, and Karma." Wiki

I didn't get much deeper into the article because there were too many weird words but I could go for what I read.

Carol said...

Do you start your vacay this week Jan?

Carol said...

Made some chicken, sausage and okra gumbo last night. Yummm. August is not the best month for gumbo but I went for it anyway.

Carol said...

They are almost finished with my new roof at Owl camp. It looks good. It's difficult to go in my camp because it's sooo depressing to see it. I'm ready for them to start working on the rest of it. Haven't seen anything from that insurance yet.

jan said...

Carol, yes - you probably have a cataract. The surgery is a piece of cake. Makes a big difference. I had my right eye done about 4-5 years ago. I have an eye appt this am.

my eye exam was good. No need for cataract surgery on left eye yet.

I think I finally got the sign I was looking for. I'm propped up on my couch recliner this morning with an ice pack on my left trapezius muscle. When I went to bed I had trouble finding a position to lay in that didn't hurt. I had felt the pain earlier but was trying to ignore it. Didn't have time for it. I tried to use a baggy to put ice on it while laying in bed and ended up with ice water in my bed.

I used to have this pain occasionally when I was younger. It usually hit me after I had a series of back to back stressors...usually those that really pissed me off. I actually read this book on arm/neck pain that called this pain the "weight of the world pain".

Yesterday, my first female patient went off on me because I couldn't promise her a double mat. I told her I could write an order to have her mat checked but it was up to security whether she got a new mat or two old ones. She jumped up, started screaming and cursing at me, even lunged at me. My secretary/security came and escorted her out with her in full scream/curse mode. Then I had a hell of a time even getting her written up for that behavior.

Carol said...

Then my last patient was another doozy. Then I got a call from the guy who talked to me about adding another assignment to my practice. He told me that his boss wanted to meet with me at the hospital. I asked if they were still going to try and get me to add that job. He indicated they wanted to talk to me about it. I'm suppose to have an appointment to meet with them this morning at 10 and I can't even get there today. I can't even get to work. I'd say it is a sign!

I stressed all evening about this. I tried hard to shut it out and just pick up the worry today but couldn't. I told TW last night that I wish we had a switch that could turn off worries until it was time to deal with them. She wished the same thing since she's going through some major stressors also.

jan said...

Carol, I am hearing about lots of jobs out there now for NPs. Have you thought of looking for something else.

Carol said...

Jan, I'm pretty sure that I'm ready to call it a day but how do you give up a 40 year habit?

I'm feeling better this morning. I was scared to try to lay down in my bed last night since I didn't realize how bad my neck pain was until I did the night before. I spent most of the day in my recliner yesterday. Bored!

There had to be some significance to my severe neck pain. Think about it, it was a..."pain in the neck"..felt like a "knife in the back"?? Even intellectually challenged people can figure that one out.

I do think our physical problems have significance. There's often a message. A self help author Louise Hay wrote books about it. Big sis introduced me to her years ago. I figured out my hyperthyroidism years ago. It helps if you can figure out what the message is before they kill ya.

Carol said...

I am totally to blame for having made my current job into a monster. My excuse is that I couldn't see how it could be done right any other way.

When I look back on my career, it was a pattern. I often went way overboard. Was it ego? Was it because I thought it was the only way to provide the quality that I thought was needed? Both probably.

Most often I didn't start out to overdo. The situation would sneak up on me over time. Maybe with this current job, I did start out overdoing it. It was a real mess when I got here and I was still hyperthyroid back then.

But one thing I have learned over the years is...that you will get NO credit if you let your employers overuse and abuse you and you have to quit to stop it.

Carol said...

Next life....I hope I remember that.

jan said...

I think the belief is that we keep coming back to improve ourselves.

I think moving was often my solution to this problem you are talking about.

jan said...

There are sometimes when I am so glad someone is not filming me. This morning I visited one of our child care centers and as I was stepping off the curb, I looked down and saw this little ant carrying a huge crumb. I, of course, looked down, not realizing that my head was getting ready to come into contact with a protruding mirror on the childrens' small bus. My granddaughter was in the car parked close to the bus and had a good laugh. Me, not so happy!

I don't remember if I was so clumsy when we spent time together Carol. But I am the biggest klutz ever. I think it is because I am often not that aware of where I am in the world. I think It comes from living in my head so much.

Jan, you can see an ant carrying a large crumb on the ground??? I probably couldn't see a rat carrying a large crumb on the ground. I did have my eye appointment today and I do have cataracts in both eyes but the right is worse. My acuity in that eye is 20/400..technically.. blind as a bat in that eye. The left one is 20/40. He thinks I should do both but not at the same time. He said I will be so happy with my new vision I will want to other one done right away.

He asked if I wanted one of those multifocal lens where I won't need to wear cheaters. It's over $2000 for each eye, not covered by insurance. I remembered trying to wear bi and trifocals and I didn't deal with those. He said it wouldn't be the same but I may see a little ring around lights in the dark. I said no thanks. I will keep my cheaters but it will be nice to see clearly in the distance for a change.

I really don't remember you're being a klutz..maybe because I am also.

And I could probably run into that mirror looking right at it. LOL.

My right eye is the one I had done 3 years ago. It was pretty bad too although they did not tell me how bad. Yep, you definitely need the surgery on your right eye.

jan said...

Carol, remember I am pretty close to the ground. I am streching it to say I am 5 ft 1 inch. I do run into things a lot. It is inattention, not anything neurological.

jan said...

Yes, you do not want both eyes done at same time. They put a patch on your eye for 24 hrs after the surgery. You do not want both eyes patched for that time. Believe me. I did not mind the surgery at all. I did have an anxiety attack when they put the little cloth over my face. They gave me a little something to take care of that and it put me out.

Well, we will soon be off on another road trip. We are going to a little town called Cloudcroft on Sat morning. John is doing a service there on Sunday. It is close to White Sands National monument. We will do a little sightseeing there. Our GD likes to go to Nat'l parks. Then we are driving to Amarillo to spend the night and then to Tulsa. After that we will drive to Little Rock and take GD home and visit more family (both of us). There is more, but I will wait and tell you about that later.

Carol said...

You know Jan that we expect pics and details. I does sound like fun!

Saw in Wiki that Cloudcroft..".. was named by Fodors in 2002 as the Number 3 "Most Overlooked and Underrated Destination Spot."

Last night when I went to bed, I was laying on my left side watching TV and noticed after a while that I had my left eye closed getting close to falling a sleep. I was seeing pretty well out of my right eye. I could even read the words on the TV screen. I even checked to make sure I really had my left eye closed and was only looking out of my right eye. I did and was. I thought..that's weird that I can see much better out of it when laying on my side.

I'm still keeping up with the DP case. It was one of those typical domestic abuse cases where there is escalation of the abuse and control until the victim is dead. She told people including the police and she knew she would eventually be dead, like Nicole Simpson, but it didn't help. Then again, her ex husband was a cop. Even after she died they didn't even look into it. It was definitely a botched investigation. Not a good thing to advertise to women who are also victims and watching this trial.

Carol said...

Now a days, very sad to report, if a women calls to report domestic abuse, she is arrested also. Seen that way too many times. And often he is able to bond out and she can't because he controls the money.

Carol said...

They are reporting that when the jury is out of the court room, the defendant is standing up, facing the audience and winking to the pretty women. Pretty scary.

On the other side...that Peterson who killed his wife and unborn baby in California gets lots of love letters from women around the country. That's even worse.

I will post pics of Cloudcroft and White Sands NM and others that might be interesting.

Yes, I worked in 1977-79 for women who were abused for laws to protect them. It is still a man's world Carol because you are so right about the issue. It makes me sick because the women wind up either dead, maimed, or in jail. In the program I work with, we do our best to help women who experience DM. Unfortunately, it is just a small number. But I think the program makes a difference for a few. I count my blessings every day when I read in the paper or see on TV that another woman has died at the hands of her abuser.

I still believe a woman does not have to stay and take it if she can get out in time. There were no resources when I was being abused but I searched and found my own. Of course, I was lucky in many ways too. I never discount luck, but sometimes you MAKE your luck. My luck was Bob.

If you want to kinda follow the Peterson trial and do it in a hurry and not have to go thru all the BS on TV, here's a great website to follow. Bookmark it and you can keep up. The trial is fascinating but very frustrating.

Jan and John, have a safe and fun trip!

The million dollar question that baffles my brain is...why were these attractive young women so attracted to this older, ugly, squinty eyed cop who it was fairly obvious was such a monster to the previous women in his life???? It just does not compute!

Heisman trophy finalist, Honey Badger failed a mj drug test and got booted out of LSU. He had to drop down to a lower team. Very sorry about that but it may mean is he is coming to one of Jan and my alma mater's...MSU. They already have a good team but now it will be much better. But then, I can't watch him on TV unless they cover it on local cable and then I would have to go to TW's house to watch.
