Granddaughter's HS graduation
My granddaughter (Hunter) in AR graduated HS today. I am very proud of her. She graduated summa cum laude and will be the distinguished freshman (with full scholarship) in the university she is attending in the fall. I am attaching some pictures of the event today. Her parents, my son (Steve) and DIL (Nancy) held a party for her this afternoon at a cabin owned by DIL's parents out in the country. It was a lovely event. There are 2 pics of graduate, and one pic of GD's sister, my other GD (Sloan). One pic is my son and another pic is his dad (Bob) and his wife (Jane).

The graduation was at 10 am this morning. John and I barely made it on time as my son had to come back and pick us up after delivering his wife and younger daughter to the auditorium.
We have not had our tire fixed as yet. We will call AAA tomorrow morning I think.
Jan, there is no rule about how long a post has to stay up. Anytime you have a new idea, you can put up a new post. As soon as you get a few new pics, put up a new post. We're on vacation, remember?
Nice looking fly. Those are nice pics. It looks to me like the younger of the two girls looks the most like her dad.
Thanks for posting a pic of Bob. He still looks the same.
And congrats to your GD for her scholastic accomplishments. She takes after you Jan.
Thanks Carol. She has far surpassed me. John started tearing up at her graduation. He said "thats the little girl that used to walk between us holding our hands." We helped raise her during her 1st 6 years of life as her mom has MS. We used to go get her about 3 evenings a week and keep her so her mom could get some rest.
I think we have about 30 minutes until we're outta the woods for beaming up. I heard someone today say it was suppose to be 6p PST.
Everyone needs to check in so we will know if anyone did beam up. I guess you can't check in if you've beamed up unless you use Wihi.
Coreen, that was a lovely story about the woman finding her 3rd cat, Cadie. Thanks for posting the link. A great story for today. When she said "I have everything I want now" I could have cried.
Think I will go out for a walk.
Maggie's tucked onto the bottom shelf of this little computer table I have next to my couch. She' squeezed snuggly inbetween other stuff on that shelf. I guess she's still not convinced they aren't coming for her.
Jan, do enjoy that you share your family with us...I can almost see that you are beaming with
pride and joy...I wish the best to your GD as
she graduates...
Carol, the swamp magic worked...Yankees win
7 - 3, with 4 home runs...but now if I were
superstitous you would have to do that for every game!!...
Carol, why is Maggie in the computer table? Are you having storms.
Thanks Coreen. I am so proud of her. The day was joyous. Congrats to you on the Yankees win today.
Yes Carol, Sloan (13 y/o) looks a lot like Bob's family - some like my DIL's family too. Actually both girls look like the same folks. They neither one look a lot like me or my family. They are such sweet girls. They are so good to help take care of their mom too.
We are just hanging out in the motel tonight watching some TV.
There are some potential tornadoes in the area. Maybe I should be nervous about that, but growing up in this part of the country and NE Oklahoma, they just don't scare me.
Are you still driving to No. Carolina Jan...
Not sure if you said where in NC,recently friends drove to Asheville to see the Biltmore
Estate...NC is a long day's drive from CT...
Coreen, the magic has a long half life. It's still good. I didn't think there was a game today. Must have been early today. Who got the HRs?
Jan, I'm watching the Weather Channel right now, about tornado chasing. Fascinating but watching it on TV is as close as I want to get.
No bad weather. Had a real taste of summer today, hot and humid.
I think Maggie was ducking the Rapture, not bad weather.
Got you radar up on Lappy Jan. I'll keep my eyes pealed for any hook action.
At 922 PM CDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar was tracking a
strong thunderstorm 2 miles north of Sycamore... or 14 miles east of
Prescott... moving northeast at 30 mph.
Hail up to the size of nickels and wind gusts up to 50 mph are
expected with this storm... along with heavy rain and frequent
dangerous lightning.
* Locations impacted include...
Arkadelphia..
Oh, Carol, they were Fox's national game tonight...sorry I should have said something...it just finished about 10 pm...
Alex, Mark Texeira, Curtis Granderson & Russell Martin...
Nada for Posada? Poor guy.
I looked online and they said game yesterday and game tomorrow.
And never underestimate swamp magic!
Georgie didn't play tonite...Tomorrow they play at 1 pm, but it will only be on NY TV on the YES network...
About the rapture...any thoughts about this article chastising the media coverage...
While it may have been excessive, & while it
may have ridiculed the true believers...I still
have a problem with those that have manipulated
the followers to believe this was real...for me, they are contemptible...
Too Much Judgment..the media's shameful, curel obsession with those awaiting the rapture
Good night all...
I don't laugh at those who really believed. I feel sorry for those who may have lost much of what they have because of their committment to their faith. And I agree Coreen, that anyone who took advantage of their committment should burn in hell.
I think the joking, for some of us, is based on a touch of anxiety. Could it possibly be the end? It's not like there hasn't been some strange signs lately, like an abundance of environmental crises around the world in the our 'hoods.
Honestly...I was relieved when we got past 6p PST.
Nite.
Brontophobia: "An abnormal and persistent fear of thunder that causes undue anxiety even though sufferers realize that thunder itself poses no threat to them. When outdoors during a thunderstorm, they may suffer excessive anxiety. When indoors, they may hide under beds or desks, behind sofas, or in closets"
http://www.medterms.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=12195
This article is referring to people, not dogs. I was listening to the Weather Channel and learned this term so I googled it.
But the WC was talking about dogs. They said it's easier to train a young dog not to be afraid of thunder by using those treats and distractions. It's almost impossible to change an older dog that already is. When Maggie is afraid of something, she won't eat anything.
And speaking of thunder, Jan sitting right under another thunderstorm this morning. Yep, she'll get her fill of stormy weather on this trip.
We made it thru our first, end of the world scare, now we can focus on that Mayan prediction for Dec 2012. Not!
When I first got that streamlink to the C2C programs, I listened to programs with some of the more notable psychic people talking about the 2012 predictions. Most didn't indicate that there would be an end but that many changes that might occur. One of those changes was that there might be a little faster turn around re: karma.
One that comes to mind is Tiger Woods. I figured that he would overcome his little scandal after a short while but that didn't happen. He seems to pretty much be finished. Now we have old Arnold in the news. Seems his BS may have finally caught up with him. There's also Bernie Maddoff and that IMF guy. Even many of those hypocritical Republicans seem to be imploding in front of our eyes.
Maybe there is something to what they predicted re karma turn around.
Good Morning! we went out for an early morning walk around the motel. We are hemmed in by highways so just did 10 laps around the motel. This is 1st exercise since beginning the trip. The car is still sitting with a flat tire. Will probably get to it today.
I feel bad for those people whose homes flooded. Some of these in LA.
I also feel bad for those folks who sold their homes, gave away life savings believing that the rapture was coming. they are being punished for their beliefs. So sad!
Big news is that Arnold may have to split his millions with Maria. If he doesn't, there is no justice.
It is overcast here, but no rain as yet. We are really enjoying the humidity. It is not hot yet.
We are just going to relax today and hang out here. Steve will be coming over for breakfast sometime and then we will all go out for dinner tonight. Tomorrow will take the car to Ford agency to get tire repaired or get a new one and get the rest of the tires checked out and then we will drive to Little Rock. Will see John's family for a couple of days. Then will head for NC. Yes, we are still going to NC.
Is it warm enough to swim and does your motel have a pool? I still haven't removed the cover on my pool yet. I have a Mimosa tree close and it's dropping it's dead flowers and they are sitting on the pool cover. When that's over, I'll have the cover removed.
It's almost 80 here with a 82% humidity. Going outside feels like going into a sauna. Yes, it bathes the skin with moisture.
I'm listening to the post failed Rapture C2C show. Interesting.
Yesterday I went to see SF. He's back at the AL facility. It's the first time I've seen SF since he was sent out for his defiant behavior. I just couldn't get miles down the road during the limited visiting hours that other place had.
He still wants to go home and spent most of our visit asking for me to take him to his home for a visit. I wouldn't mind if I knew I could get him back. I did mention that was a problem.
He didn't act too excited over my visit. Instead of enjoying the visit, he just makes it miserable for both of us. Another old guy, who sits at his dinner table was terribly excited when he saw me. He's 81. We were sitting in rockers out in the front. That guy pulled up a rocker and joined us. The visit was more enjoyable when he showed up. We had a nice talk.
SF even seemed to show more appreciation when that guy showed up.
It's 78 here right now - humidity 74, so they say it feels like 82. Air Conditioning works easily in high humidity though, since it takes out the moisture so quickly. It was worse in the high desert, because there the temperatures would stay over a 100 (109 one August, every day) -- they thought that the dryness helped, but it never cooled off, because air conditioning can do only so much in those high of temperatures.
Here, we very rarely hit a hundred, even in the hottest months. Even when we do though, the air conditioning seems to have no problem doing it's job, as long as it's sized right (a lot better though, now that we've improved our insulation).
I bet you're looking forward to that pool being uncovered, Carol.
That friendly guys that was excited to see you, and also got your SF in a better mood is a good example of one of the reasons it's good for SF the be where he is, to begin with.
You mentioned he can be a little devious sometimes, so if that's so, good luck getting him back once he gets home.
I think if you wait a few months, then if you decide to do it, at least by then he'll be more settled in and likely to feel more at home in his new environment.
Maybe you should just tell him you'll take him for a visit during one of the coming holidays (Thanksgiving, or something before), so he can look forward to it. That way when he brings it up, you can talk about your plans and when they'll take place.
Jan!
Congratulations to your grand daughter (and you and John) -- both for her graduation and for her scholarship to the University. It's amazing she did all that, and helped take care of her mother too. I hadn't realized you helped raise her when she was a baby up to 6 yrs (which is still a baby to me then too).
I remember that you said your 12 year old (I think you said 12) grand daughter was staying with you a while back, and missed her mom, so went home early. Was that her sister?
Your family is beautiful. Nice that you get to spend some more time with them today. Hope that once you get that tire fixed, it will be the end of your car problems.
What family do you have in North Carolina?
(... thanks for taking us on your road trip with you -- hope you keep the pics coming).
Chloe, SF is very devious and manipulative. And someone I know is very vulnerable to that manipulation and he knows it.
I can predict with almost 100% accuracy that if he is taken home, he will spend a few minutes with his dog, sit outside a few and then go crawl into bed like he did when he lived there. Anyone who takes him there will then be stuck. And then I'll get a call to deal with it.
He never smiled while I was there, playing that guilt card. He did a couple of times when that other guy was with us making all over me. He also did when this cute young thing, who works there, came up. He almost broke his face smiling then.
I'm not sure I want to go today and deal with that. When I do go for our next visit, I will tell him that if he's going to be miserable while I'm there, then I won't want to be there very often. He is totally in control of what he is doing even though his behavior is very totally inappropritate and ineffective.
There are people who are dealing with situations that they have created. They made their beds but don't particularly like laying in them. Then they want to try to make anyone else, who is happy, miserable. Not speaking of SF here.
My lesson in life is to not allow that to happen. I'm working hard on that lesson.
The AL facility was going to require round the clock sitters until his other room, where he will not be able to leave, is available. We managed to talk them out of it. That would be terribly expensive and he doesn't have that kind of money. He can't really return to the hospital again so if he causes trouble, it won't be a pretty situation.
".... people who are dealing with situations that they have created."
Yes, I agree. It's a hard lesson, and until we learn it, we're destined to live with the consequences -- simple 'Cause and Effect'.
I agree with everything you said, Carol. And there's no way to reward bad behavior without it coming back at you too. You're thinking on this is right on track.
... and I guess the old saying is right: 'Misery loves company'.
Carol, SF is definitely manipulating you. I agree with Chloe that it would not be a good idea to take him to his house for a visit until he sees the place he is living as home. The fact that his behavior was different when the other guy pulled up a chair is pretty evident of his manipulation of you.
Hi Chloe, yes - the GD that visited us in ALB last summer and who went home early is the sister of the graduate.
The sister will be 14 in July. She will get her learner drivers permit on her birthday - because of her mother's disability. Her sister got that 4 years ago. They are both very mature little girls, probably because they have had to grow up early.
We are going to NC for a spirituality and dream work conference. It will last from next sun until the following friday. It is being held at a retreat center. It is a conference that is held 2X each year in NC. We have been talking about attending it for several years and finally signed up for it.
"I can predict with almost 100% accuracy that if he is taken home, he will spend a few minutes with his dog, sit outside a few and then go crawl into bed like he did when he lived there. Anyone who takes him there will then be stuck. And then I'll get a call to deal with it."
Carol, this just shows that he does not need to be at home by himself. You made the right decision taking him to the Al facility. He will eventually feel it is home. He is safe there.
Well, someone will be here in the next hour to change the tire. We only have a "donut" as a spare. John says we will take the car out to Walmart tire place to get the tire fixed or a new one. The joys of traveling.
Jan, I must have missed you by about a minute.
Wow! They get learners permits in at 14 there. I've never heard of anyone getting them that young.
That spirituality and dream work conference at a retreat center sounds so good. What an opportunity. I'll be interested in hearing about it 'and' North Carolina. I've only seen it in movies.
I hope the Walmart there isn't as slow as the WM automotive here.
Blonde over at TM linked this article about "Crossing Arms Reduces Pain Intensity By Confusing The Brain". It's worth a try, I guess. http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/226119.php
That site looks interesting too (glancing at the different articles they list). I'm going to bookmark it.
Tire is fixed and back on the van. A nail caused the problem. Walmart was PDQ.
Chloe, because the mom has a disability, they get a "family hardship" learners permit and drive earlier. I don't know if AR is only place that is done.
Chloe, that arm crossing thing is very interesting. I will try it - if I remember the next time I have pain.
Carol, as far as your SF, in the end, you know
this was the right decision for him & you...
I think if you did take him home for a visit, it would only cause you & him more grief...there is no good answer for these situations, but it seems that SF is in the best place for his own health & welfare & having him at the Assisted Living facility gives you comfort that he is safe & cared for
24/7...
Looks like you had another hot/humid day...while here it did not make 60...it was
overcast/rainy & really chilly...we have not
seen much sun for a long time...maybe by the end of this week...at least I haven't needed
either heat or AC...
And Carol, the team won today...9 - 3...that
swamp magic really kicked in...since they were
behind 3 - 1 until the 7th inning, when Derek
got a clean single to drive in 2 runs to tie the game up...then in that inning they scored a total of 8 runs...
Thanks for all the support and advice. I'm glad you guys understand. Unfortunately, the people who need to, don't.
I took myself out for a "me" day today. I just had fun and didn't think about anything disturbing. I did enjoy it. I didn't go see SF and let him ruin my day. Call me selfish. Now I'm back home to plants that need water, dishes to wash and a few other chores. I'll space those chores out.
My plants are so big and they're in pots so I have to water them at least three times a day or they'll wilt.
There was a dove perched on top of my bird feeder. Doves are ground feeders but there must have not been enough food on the ground. He was looking down, trying to figure out how to get to where the seeds come out. He finally did get there but he's too big to stand there.
Coreen, are you believing in the magic yet? I know they are playing teams that they should beat anyway but it seems they were suffering a bit of a curse and we just had to break it.
Coreen, I didn't see your earlier post. I guess you were aware of the efficacy of the magic.
Spent the evening with son, DIL and GD's. Got back to motel and turned on TV - big tornado in Joplin, MO. That is just 20 miles from Miami, OK. I was director in Miami - Joplin was our major area for student clinical experiences. We used 2 hosps there. Sounds like a big tornado.
I has been overcast and some rain here today. So far, no tornado warnings or watches.
Got tire fixed at Wally world. Did not realize it until we got to Steve's house but tire folks at WW did not put the "donut" back into its place, just left it in back of car. Now must go back in the morn to have them do this. John would have to do it and he gets dizzy if he gets down to do that kind of thing.
I hear they are closing the hosp we used for clinical experiences in Joplin. There are some fatalities.
They did the same thing at my Walmart. Said they couldn't get my tire back under the truck so they threw it in the back. It stayed there until I went to the Toyota place a good bit later and they put it back. Must be a trend with Walmart.
Joplin, MO was a big tornado. St. John's Med Center took a direct hit.
at least 24 deaths reported
I just looked at the radar up that way. There is still a lot of red stuff.
Just finished that Jesse Stone movie that was on CBS. I was recording at the same time. It just ended without much of an explanation unless my recording screwed up. Anyone else watch it?
Maybe there is something to that rapture threat but instead of taking a bunch at one time, they're going in small groups.
Now over 89 confirmed dead and that's expected to rise. Can't find much coverage on the news.
Have to have my blood work done this morning so no coffee. I'm sitting here in a stupor.
More storms today so stay safe Jan and John.
Had a hard time getting on line this morning. I kept forgetting to check this little box in addition to putting in the access code.
Terrible day for Joplin, MO. This is a town I have spent much time in. Our students in the Asso degree progam in Miami OK did most of clinical experience there. As a child we spent much time in Joplin also. It is a nice community. A decent sized small city. Very bible belt.
Jan, if you hear anything new about what's happening in Joplin, let us know. This morning I couldn't find much on the national news. They were still discussing BS. Anderson Cooper is heading that way. He'll do it right.
I really can't see how anyone survived that tornado after looking at that town. I saw a Walmart that was flattened. Walmart is always full of people.
I'm gonna find my weather radio and keep it handy. I don't want to be in this tree house if we ever have anything even a small percentage of that. No wonder Maggie is always hiding under something when we have a storm. .
Anybody home? Hey, I did blood work, worked all day, after work I drove to BFE for a bone density and mammogram, went to Sams, watered plants, walked and feed the dog and now am sitting down to my special salad. And where are you guys?
Can't say I was very crazy about Chelsae or Kirsty's choreography. Not their fault. And when the guys do that move, that Max did tonight, where the guy stands behind the woman and swing the woman's arm around, it always looks ackward and even a little painful. Never looks graceful.
Busy day Carol, you need some downtime...I hope all those tests come out ok...when I had a blood test a few weeks ago..the result she says take more vit D...never had a bone density test....
Hines wins the first round...IMO.
Bone density said.....dust!
Mammogram looked good to me. It said, need more boobs. I just might have a little more than I did before I went in. I'm sure they stretched them. When she said, don't move...it wasn't necessary because I couldn't even breathe without ripping one of them off.
I can tell you already I do not like Chelsea's
free style...out of control, wild, acrobatic..what was it cirque de soleil...
I loved Hines quick step...he commands the floor...
I'm a little behind. Had to pause it to get food.
Gave the first round to Hines. I liked the choreography better, he did well and looked dapper.
I didn't like that free style either Coreen. It was not attractive. Judges seem to want her to win this.
Kirstie....YOU GO GIRL!!!...
Just that Kirstie could do that routine...fantastic...I don't care what the judges say...
I did like Kirsty's better than Chelsae's. I wonder if Max herniated any disks tonight.
Well, Hines knocked it out of the park...& managed to get the different dance moves...
I loved the gold/black balloon tribute, even if I don't like the Steelers...not crazy about
his costume though...that said...I want Hines
to win it...
And I think franco harris is in the audience...I did like that Steeler team...
I was having trouble with my connection so I closed it down and started over.
Wasn't that crazy about the choreography with Hine's dance but he did it very well.
I would be happy with Hines or Kirstie the winner....but my first choice is Hines...
I do think Hine's costume was what turned me off also. Didn't do anything for him.
I'm leaning toward Hines also.
I guess he was going for the drum major look...like at many half-time shows...
Hey, I went & voted...after some back & forth
with verification...4 for Hines, 1 for Kirstie...
By the way...I am not watching the Bachlerette...
I never watch that poop!
But I am now fascinated with the 'Mob Wives'...a train wreck in living color...
They actually got into an old fashioned hair pulling match...rolling on the floor of one of their dining rooms...that's how it ended last
night...
Loaded with attitude, lots of f-bombs...& some
pics of Staten Island flashed throughout...
I am still trying to figure out how these 4 women are getting along...they all live in nice homes, new cars, no visible means of support...husbands, exs, & dads in jail...its a hoot...
Oh and Carol, about the Tom Selleck movie...I didn't watch it, but my mom did & she wasn't sure what the ending was supposed to be either..
I like him & will try to catch it in reruns...but the Jesse Stone character seems
sad/depressing....
I forgot about that program Coreen. I watched that Jesse Stone movie. Didn't like how they ended it.
And back at the ranch...the Yankees are getting beat by the Toronto Blue Jays 6 - 2
in the bottom of the 7th...& its cold, foggy,
drizzly here again...only 58 today...
I agree with you about the character. He is depressing. I also want him to hug on that cute dog he had. They are both aloof.
My mom said the dog looked like he was sad too...I guess the dog is going to be his sidekick...since in one of the other JS movies
his old dog died...
I'm watching CNN's coverage of the tornado.
Not me...watching sitcoms...2-1/2 men/mike & molly....
I saw enough on the early news..I don't need
to see any more...I dislike the obsession with
covering disasters by all the media...& yes I know the old line about news...if it bleeds, it leads...
Now that Camping guy is saying the world will end Oct 21. When will someone put him in a home??
I wanted more infor on that tragedy. Couldn't find much this morning.
These storms used to hit unpopulated areas but now are going after very populated areas.
That rapture guy is 89. Don't ya think he may have a touch of dementia??
Don't know Carol, couldn't it be that those unpopulated areas from before are now more populated by the growth of the population as it
spreads out across the country...where I live
was once more 'rural', but now while certainly not heavily populated has more people then
years ago...
No, I think he's a charlatan....his 'church' continues to survive on donations from the true believers...
I didn't hear that his church emptied their
accounts & fed the hungry, helped the sick when they thought the world was about to end...they still have all their millions....
Aside from all the news..., if you don't mind, would you tell me how much the Iphone costs a month...I want to
get the white Iphone, but seems that the monthly charges add up to like $150/month...
is that the going price to keep it working?...
it says you need datapro 4gb, nation unlimited,
messaging, which adds up to close to $150...
Is that so you get to use the internet wherever & text....
It's $97 and I have 900 minutes, only 200 texts and enough data to do the surfing when I'm not home and sometimes when I am. Most of my friends and family are also on AT&T, free, so the minutes are mostly for work calls.
With the 900 minutes I can even list 5 most often used phone numbers for free calls.
Remember, I don't have a land line.
It seems that mother nature has turned vicious. There is something going on with our environment. Some think that there is some manipulating of our weathert with technology. There's something called HAARP. You might want to google it.
It's not nice to screw with mother nature.
"..over the years allegations have arisen that HAARP is involved in everything from weather modification to mind control"
Thanks for the info Carol, seems that the costs are similar nationwide...I really want
the white Iphone, (I don't know why) though I have no clue how it works, or for that matter, who I would talk to, since I rarely use the one I have...to this day my cell is almost always dead in my pocket book, I don't even know its phone # since I don't leave it on, don't know how to program it, I have a pic of one of my cats on it when it goes on, but for the life of me I have no idea how I managed to take it...& all my phones(home, office are through AT&T service)....
As far as Mother Nature...remember you can't fool her, & what is going to be will happen, we
have no control over it, regardless of what many claim...
In the event humankind has set into motion
the destruction of the earth,(the claimed climate changes)I have no idea,
but if it is happening humankind will not do
anything to reverse it...
So maybe we are all doomed, in that case, I hope its not going to happen in the forseeable future...
HAARP...Is that a C2C discussion topic?...I miss being able to hear C2C late at night, but there is no station here that the signal comes in clear...
I better check out & get all the fur family
situated for the night...
I think it's already started.
It's either 30 or 39 bucks for 6 months of
C2C streamlInk, listen anytime and on IPhone too. You can afford
that. Crystal clear and can listen to old shows
Something you can do with your white IPhone. iPhone
4 takes good pics and videos.
Probably good you don't use a cell often. They cook your brain. I'm sure mine is well done. Using IPhone now. Lappy 1 still isn't home.
Just stepped out on the porch deck to smell the slightly cooler night air and listen to the symphony of night critters. I love to do that, especially this time of year. Not too hot or too cool. Saw PS 2, mini me to PS. She was starting her web but sucked it back up quickly when she saw me. She doesn't plan on getting my way.
Hope Jan and John are OK.
I bet Jan's seeing the destruction of her old stomping ground is depressing. She might even know some of the missing or dead.
Back to having that same problem signing in from my computer. Google must not like Internet Explorer. iPhone uses Safari and I can sign in on IPhone
Is anyone else having this issue? Maybe Jan did
Hi Folks. Just now getting on. Have been busy since getting to Little Rock. John has lots of family here and been seeing them. We are both just now getting on line. Have to pay for on line service at the this motel - Embassy suites- good motel for money but pay for wifi. Oh well, it is worth it. It was great to have the 2 rooms. John had problems sleeping last night - so he had another room and TV to go to. I had trouble sleeping the night before and only had the one room so I went into the lobby to read and drink tea.
Hope all my friends here are doing well. I just talked to my sis and her husb having problems swallowing. He lost his voice a few weeks ago. He can talk but its more like a squeek. We saw them last Friday on our way here. My sis is getting him a Dr. appt. I don't know if I have told you but he had lung CA 3 years ago. He had surgery and removal of part of a lung at that time. Last year he had both chemo and radiation. He did have a scan after that and showed no cancer. But he also has diabetes. He worked in Joplin for 15 years. He called his friends there and so far all of them are ok. They live on a part of town not so badly affected by the tornado.
All of news here is about the tornado.
Have been reading your recent comments. I want an I phone - will probably wait until nov when my contract is up.
We missed DWTS last night. We will get to see the finals tonight.
I am sure we will see some of dances tonight.
We will be on road again tomorrow morning heading for Tennessee.
Do you all want me to take some pics of little rock and do another post?
So sad about the little baby, Skyler, that has been lost in Joplin.
They say the social network has been a major way of finding friends and family in Joplin.
Many of the people I worked with in Miami OK lived in Joplin. I have not been in touch with the school there in a long time.
Technology is amazing. I just called a former co-worker and friend at Northeast OK A&M College where I worked years ago. All the people I knew there are safe- many lived in Joplin and commuted to Miami. Some have lost material possessions but no loss of life.
Yes, I do want you to do lots of vacation posts. I think that was one of your missions.
I still can't get in on blog from computer. Tried everything I did last time. Others having same issue and they are using a variety of browsers. Google is pissing me off. They may want to shut me up.
Be safe today. High risk up your way.
Jan, technology is amazing when it works right but when it doesn't it is worthless. I still can't sign in to comment. And I am signed in on the blogger dashboard. I'm not alone, google is aware.
Coreen's locked out also. I bet she use IE also. But some others are using other browsers.
Lets see if i can comment?
So sorry to hear you guys cannot comment. I tried the other night to comment on my other computer (Dell) and could not. But I can on the mac.
We are watching a tornado on TV close to Okla City. Please don't worry about us. We will keep our radio on while traveling. I hope you all can get on here and communicate with me. Now that I am in your same time zone, I would like to talk with you. Bummer.
I'm in. Whoopee.
Try this Coreen. Go to Tools on your tool bar. Go to Internet Options. Go to delete broswing history. It will have the first three checked. Hit Delete. Then OK.
Then go to sign in. Hit sign in. That will bring you to the Dashboard where you are probably already signed in. Sign out of Blogger and sign in again. That worked for me.
I'll be back. Have to run to the store.
Forgot, I have a pizza in the over.
Coreen just emailed and in case she can't get in, here's what Coreen wrote:
Tried just now when I came home...still not working...
My comment to Jan about pics was going to say yes I would love to see Little Rock, especially since my (our?) fav ex-president came from Arkansas...
And guess what the sun came out it is 80, was humid, but not as bad right now & I had to put the AC on when I got home...Both up & down
units worked, I was glad since when they shoveled the snow off of the roof this winter, tons of snow fell on top of the outside units & I was
worried that they might not work...but so far so good...the AC guy is going to come & check, clean & give a boost of freon(well not freon anymore
but whatever it is now) if needed...
Looks like summer is going to finally reach us...
And in case we don't get on later....Kirstie or Hines....
OK Jan, don't disappear again. It's not like Coreen and I haven't been here, with our dancing shoes on, waiting for you to show up. You just keep teasing us.
I wonder if Chloe is on hiatus or if she can't get in either. I figure, if this is a browser issue, she probably has a bunch of them to choose from.
I'm still stressing over Joplin. I think there should be tons of people and search dogs going thru all those downed structures looking for survivors.
Jan, do they have storm shelters in Walmart and Home Depot in those tornado alley towns?? There has to have been a significant number of people shopping in those stores and they are pancaked.
Oh good Jan. First hour of DWTS is a rerun of last night.
Mary just called to tell me that AI has their season finale tonight also. Good thing I don't give a fat rat's ass about it anymore. Country karaoke.
Where did you go Jan? Get locked out? I'm behind because I was talking with my computer guy about Lappy 1. He's waiting for the new kepboard to come in. He couldn't find a used one.
I had forgotten just how pretty and graceful Petra was.
Tonight, I've been reminded that some of the better dancers lost out early.
I missed my Romeo. It was good to see him again.
Had to relive some of the sad moments. And had to do it all alone???
Earlier I couldn't get in and now that I am, everyone else left??
Jan, I looked to see if there were any tornados in your 'hood. Not yet but you better stay alert. There is a watch going and I assume you are aware of that. Are you scouting a bunker??
Maggie is currently sleeping under the computer table. I think she's been watching too much TV.
It is amazing how much those guys/girls learned in a few short weeks. Truely amazing.
I didn't give Chelsae a vote and I'm feeling guilty now. I think I came under Hine's charm and Kirsty's celebrity and screwed the best dancer. Shame on you Carol.
Maybe be judges can fix that.
OK, I am on. We went out to eat with John's family. I have been watching DWTS with John and his son. I am sorry I have not been on with you all. I didn't know if you would be here.
You all?? It's been me and my shadow.
I too enjoyed seeing some of the earlier contestants.
OK, here we go.
Now I have to pause the show, go walk the Magster and finish Dancing with my iron. I've cut way into my bedtime routine.
Nite nite and you guys keep your eyes on that weather.
3rd place - Chelsea. son of a gun.
carol, only a few more minutes. Surely you are not leaving now.
Keep talking, I'll check back in later on Iphony.
I'm behind. I guess I could fast forward.
That doesn't surprise me. I told you that she would have lost out last week if the judges hadn't have given her a bump with those extra points.
She just didn't have the star power. These aren't talent contests, they are popularity contests. Haven't you learned anything yet?
I think it will be Hines.
Ok, here comes the winner - and it is
told ya.
It was a no brainer. Kirsty did pull out all the stops at the end but out of the two of them, he was better. But neither were the best of the dancers.
Hines and Kym. Well, I think we all knew it would be Hines. The judges love the football players. He did do very well.
Carol, I didn't get any pics taken. I will take some tomorrow on the way to Tennessee. Can we wait for a new post tomorrow afternoon?
It's just a goofy show but we love it.
We can do whatever you want to do Jano.
Storms are still taking lives.
Maggie is shaking a leg.
I think we are driving to Nashville tomorrow.
Now, our county we lived in before moving to NM has tornado warnings. It looks like not as bad. John does have a niece living there.
Yes, they are goofy shows, but what the heck, it is entertaining.
good night Carol. Sleep well.
Jan, I'm watching AC 360. He's in Joplin. Sirens are going off. Scary. They have more killed in Ok tonight. Governor said she's not seen anything like this.
Coreen, if you still can't get in today, try that recipe I posted yesterday. I kept trying it and finally it worked. I read that they are working on the problem.
Jan, you and John be careful on the road. You said that you have a weather radio? Plan for places to shelter in case of bad weather.
And if you take refuge in a large building avoid the front. I read that in that Home Depot many people were gathered at the front of the store where there was a heavy cement wall. It fell and crushed people. They would have been better if they were deeper in the store along some of the shelves.
And Weather Channel lists western Tenn as having a Tor:Con value of 9 today. They say that mean 9 out of 10 chance of having a tornado within 50 miles in that area.
Yes, I've been locked on the Weather Channel and CNN, following this crisis. I'm worried about them finding all those missing people.
OK, I'm on weather watch tonight and was intermittently today. I called Jan and told her she couldn't stay in Memphis tonight. She laughed. John didn't and they are closing in on Knoxville now. Good thing since tornados are closing in on Memphis now.
I'm the safety chairman here. OK.
Coreen. Still no luck?
Memphis now under tornado warning! ETA 7:08p
James Durbin singing with Judas Priest.
Yes, I'm watching AI, my old favorites.
Jacob and Gladys Knight! Wow!
Coreen, I hate when you can't get in here.
The Jan turtle landed, with John, and they are getting a bite to eat. She texted that she took pics so she better get that new post up and PDQ.
Glad I didn't miss the homecoming!
Missed you guys...Pia, Karen, Niama, Thia, Haley, Ashthon...
Haley and Tony Bennett, wow.
Scotty is still afraid of his mic.
