HAPPY EASTER!!

The pics I'm posting are a few we took of Emma before she went to her Easter Parties on Wednesday and Thursday (we'll be taking more on Easter day).

The kids at her school all got their little faces painted like bunnies, and wore bunny ears for their party and easter egg hunt. It's impossible to get a picture of Em with anything on her head (she has always immediately removed anything you put in or on her hair - although we did catch some with a couple of little rubber banded ponytails after she had only partially destroyed them). The teachers told me that little girls are even worse about not wanting things in their hair when they're three years old - so I guess there won't be much hairstyling for a couple more years or so.

This is Emma's Easter poem that I found on line:

"That cute little bunny has hopped all day,
delivering baskets for the holiday.
His paws are so tired and his nose how it itches,
He left you something special to fulfill all your wishes-
Lots of cute little Easter bunny hugs and kisses."

'Hoppy Easter' Everyone!!

Absolutely fabulous Chloe. She looks like an Easter Egg. She has grown up. She sure looks like she's having fun.

Anonymous said...

Funny you should say that Carol!

That's what we said that morning. We told the teachers at school that we dressed her up like an Easter egg. I guess we succeeded.

Carol said...

Ya need to post some of her pics more often so we can keep track of her ages and stages in our Swamp scrapbook. I promise I won't let any gator get close to her or Maggie.

Anonymous said...

She's up and yelling for breakfast now, so I'll have to come back later.

Jan, BTW - Emma is still smaller than she looks in the pics. She's 27 months old and only weighs 23.4 lbs. I'm constantly trying to stuff her with food, and she normally eats well - but her favorite foods are still fruits and vegetables. The only chicken she really likes are the nuggets at Chick-fil-A. She loves french fries and mashed potatoes and many other foods too, but I think she is destined to be petite (at least so far). As you can see, she's not skinny, just small.

Carol said...

Those are precious little Easter egg colored dresses. What is her favorite type of outfit and does she like to change clothes a lot? Is she a clothes horse like you? (not really sure you are..it's just a guess) Does she like to shop like you?

Anonymous said...

"I promise I won't let any gator get close to her or Maggie."

I know how maternal and caring you are, Carol. I'd trust you to baby sit 'any' time.

Anonymous said...

I love clothes, but I don't dress myself up all girly like I do her. I prefer Levi's for me.

It's so much fun dressing her all feminine. But making sure she's comfortable is always first and foremost. Dresses and leggings (short ones for summer) are always easiest and look best on her at this point. She has a lot more clothes and shoes than she needs - I just can't resist.

Anonymous said...

... don't forget what her favorite toy is - it's her little plastic shopping cart.

Ok, must go.

Carol said...

I'm pretty sure that you like to shop. I think that Mall play area is just a red herring. What is your favorite thing to shop for.

I'm usually a nervous wreck when there are kids around. I come by it honestly. My mom was soooo overprotective. My dad and SF weren't. Mom and SF fought often about Jeremy when he was little. He spent most of his life out there with them. She didn't like SF taking him out on the farm. I would have to say that I kinda agreed. SF did manage to kill just about everyone of our dogs that stayed around his place for very long. I'm pretty sure they were all accidents cuz he did love dogs. But I never left any of my dogs over there without my direct supervision though.

What a nice surprise....

Chloe, Em is adorable...she looks so happy, lots of smiles...seem to remember at first she
didn't like to smile at the camera...love the
ponytails & pixie bangs...

I've been trying..on several occasions..to listen to this human connection show on C2C. The program is about how we humans can accomplish so much more as a united group as compared to a fragmented group.

The lady being interviewed is Lynne McTaggart. She says"...by working together in groups rather than as individuals, we can yield the greatest benefits. In the West, many are trained to believe in the survival of the fittest, but actually "we are wired to care, share, and be fair. And whenever we go against that, we get in trouble. We succeed when we connect, when we cooperate," she said. Humans are connected on a subatomic level, and as such are not separate from each other, she continued."

I've tried several nights to hear all the program but..I tell ya..the more interesting it is..the faster I fall asleep.

That is what is so wrong with our political system. It forces us to fragment. You know we all basically want and need the same things but they..the media is really much to blame here..focus on our differences. They stir the s---.

Coreen said...

Carol, appreciate you sharing the neighborhood where you hang out with Magster...BUT, just
seeing that gator in the river!...gave me a chill...

As far as the neighbor's yard where the water
laps onto the ground, is that far away from you
& where you guys walk...for me, it could never be far enough away...

Though I know you are cautious at all times, I remain concerned...I could never live there,
a little to close to Mother Nature's creatures
for me...

Carol said...

It's close Coreen..very close. These camps are very close together. And that young gator was checking out that little boat ramp area. But you know I am over protective. I do fear ahead.

Coreen said...

Do gators always hang around your river or is that a relatively new occurrence...

I know you will remain vigilant at all times out there...

By the way, it is raining again today, pretty good rain too...only in the 40s...

Today's Daily Word from Unity:

"Earth Blessings
I am rich in the wonders of the Earth.
In nature, I am reminded of God's wonder. I feel a commitment and desire to do all I can to sustain the health of Mother Earth. From a place of stewardship and love, I know I can effect change.

Each day, I am grateful for the ways my life is enriched by the earth. Through my actions, I honor and respect her. Every time I nurture and love myself and others, I extend the same love and support to Mother Earth.

Her ability to survive and thrive is apparent as I lovingly work the soil or sink my feet into the sand. The pulsating energy of Spirit is alive in her. I am comforted by that knowledge. In awareness of her splendor, I silently express joy and thanks to God."

Carol said...

Coreen..I don't see gators very often unless I take the boat to some of the back waterways. Never heard of one hurting anyone around these part either.

Coreen said...

Well, that's a little reassuring, hopefully the
stray will move on back to its usual home...

Chloe, you caught some very cute pics. No professional could have done as good. Didn't you used to have trouble catching her smiles. You got them this time.

Good morning and Happy Easter everyone!

Thanks, Carol.
Yes, now that's she older, it's hard to catch her when she's not smiling or laughing. She's quite the little jokester, even a ham at times. She's always making us laugh.

I've got her Easter basket ready for her when she awakens this morning. Meantime I'm enjoying the solitude.

I never heard what you're doing today. Are you cooking?

Also Jan and Coreen. I may have missed something from the earlier threads, but I don't think so.

Regardless, I hope you all have a wonderful day. It should be fairly calm around here - just the way I like it.

Tomorrow will be the usual hectic Monday morning, so I'm going to enjoy it while I can.

Carol said...

Ya know Chloe..the Emmster looks like she would make a good kid model. She's got some ham in her. Is that what your having for lunch? I don't think she needs any. She's got that covered.

LOL, Carol.

Yes, her teacher often comments on how funny she is. She often does the funniest, off beat things.

I went over to read Great Scots this morning, and he mentioned that he has been reading Marcus Aurelius for his morning inspiration.
I looked up Aurelius, and among some of his quotes, I found this and thought it would be meaningful to you, Carol:

"Whatever happens to you has been waiting to happen since the beginning of time. The twining strands of fate wove both of them together: your own existence and the things that happen to you."

...... I must admit that I love the way he put that -- about the strands of fate woving together your own existence with things that happen to you.

Still doesn't exactly change my mind though. But I do agree that our choices weave together our existence with (cause) the things that happen to us. As you know, I believe we are our choices -- and when they change, then so do we.

I found this on the Wiki meditation page at the same time "If thou art pained by any external thing, it is not this that disturbs thee, but thy own judgment about it. And it is in thy power to wipe out this judgment now." (VIII. 47, trans. George Long)

Happy Easter from me also. I am also going to have a quite day. I didn't plan anything. I did at the last minute..yesterday..call some friends I haven't seen in a while. They used to have a camp out here and I miss them. I've asked them out several times of the last couple of months but they always had things to do.

I heard their kids weren't going to be here so yesterday I asked them to come over. Talked with the wife. Didn't get a no so I went and bought some more stuff just in case. I really think the wife wanted to come. The husband called back later and said he was going to paint. He also said it was too hard to come out here right now because he just missed the place too much. I've noticed that he seemed depressed lately..kinda like I was last fall.

Now I have a crap load of unprepared food and a 12 pack of Coors to get rid of. I just can't wait until the last minute so I got prepared just in case. Most of the food can be frozen for another time and I bet I can find a neighbor who would be happy to have me unload that beer on them.

I'm not too disappointed about not having had to work about 8 hard hours yesterday and today preparing. Ya know me..anything worth doing is worth overdoing.

I waited until the last minute because I was sort of ambivilent about doing anything. I don't mind quiet. I guess the Universe made the decision for me.

I didn't have to worry about finding somewhere to take SF this holiday since I can't get him up my steps anymore. I couldn't take him out of the place where he is even if I wanted to. That was a nice change.

I did go see him yesterday. I still can't evaluate what's going on in his head. One minute he seems to not know what's going on and the next he does. It's weird. The things he says when he's with it are just too "with it" for him to be confused. And for it to change from moment to moment??

Carol said...

That is very cool Chloe. I can quietly ponder on that today.

Carol said...

And Mr Scotiman's tree story sounds a lot like Jan's tree. I wonder if it is the same kind of tree and how her tree is doing.

Oh wherefore art thou Jan?? She was headed for a swim the last we heard from her. Hope she didn't swim too hard. She certainly wouldn't want to miss your Emma pics.

Carol said...

That quote you cited is something I have actually been pondering some this weekend. It stresses me when other people I love seem to have nothing but crap fall on their heads. My crap seems to alternate with good stuff but others seem to just have the crap and I can't change that for them.

Coreen said...

Good morning and Happy Easter...

It will be a calm day here...actually some sun & warm...Pretty quiet too...

Carol said...

For breakfast I'm going to make this dish mom used to make on special occasions. She called it creamed eggs on toast. You boil your eggs..probably have some of those around right now. You make a white sauce..I think also called a Béchamel sauce. Melt a little butter and stir in some flour. Slowly pour in milk..stirring until it is creamy. Not too much. Then you add your diced up boiled eggs and of course..some seasoning to taste. Toast some bread and put the egg stuff on top. We loved it.

You could call it bird poop on a shingle. Bird poop is white.

Carol said...

What an Easter present. I just saw a Rose-breasted Grosbeak. Never saw one before. He's out there on my feeder. He must be just passing thru.

"Mr Scotiman's tree story sounds a lot like Jan's tree"

I love trees and the older, the better. That's why I'm so happy where I am.

It's nice the way 'Mr. Scotty' he looks to nature for the answers to our questions regarding the meaning of life. That's actually what Darwin did also. That Netflix movie 'Creation' with Paul Bettany (whom I love, although he wasn't himself in that part) is what made me start thinking of him in that way again. Actually, it made me see him much differently than I ever have before. Mostly because of the rejection he experience by thinking outside the box.

His life seemed so much more painful than I have ever heard that it was in the past. It's amazing how few of the 'really' important things we have learned in school. We had to find out about what really counts all on our own.

Anonymous said...

.... I've assumed Jan has been busy with Easter. Hopefully we'll hear from her by tomorrow.

Anonymous said...

Carol, the way you describe SF confusion sounds like the way Alzheimer's affects people. I think it's more intermittent at first. The change in his environment probably confuses him too. The most important thing though, is that he is safe and well cared for where he is. They understand these things much better than we do.

Anonymous said...

I'm already getting hungry. We'll probably go eat early if everyone else is getting there too. It's about a 40 minute drive to where we're going (The Woodlands).

That's where that Mall is Carol. But you're wrong about me shopping there. I used to years ago, but really don't like going there at all any more. I rarely take Emma there now, because she has plenty of interaction and play at school. So that is no longer a problem or necessity.

I shop close by at the easiest places to get in and out of. Either that, or online. Ha! - I prefer stores that have shopping carts (nothing fancy for me) - although occasionally I'll go to Kohls - they have great sales.

I like Target, TJ Maxx and Academy for our Levis and sports shoes. I put up with Walmart - try as I might, I can't make it without them. It's a love/hate relationship.

Carol said...

LOL. Same with me and Walmart. They are in my triangle of travel. Try to keep a low carbon footprint and Walmart is the closest store.

Carol said...

Lately, the bulk of my grocery bill is bird seed/sugar. I still have lots of hummers but not nearly as many as in the fall. Bird seed has gone up in price, just like everything else has.

The increase in gas prices has affected everything and there is NOT a shortage of the stuff yet. It's those damn spectulators again.

Chloe, I am just checking in after a days absence.

Emma gets prettier every time I see her. She is a little doll. The pictures are adorable. Thank you for a wonderful Easter post. Emma has really grown too. She looks like such a happy little girl. Wish I could have seen her with her face painted. Did you get pics. If so, please post them.

jan said...

Now I must go back and read all the comments since I was last here.

Sorry to not check in yesterday. I took a quilting class yesterday morning. We are making a quilted bag. I came home after the class and worked on the bag all afternoon. I was pooped afterwards and my body hurt after a lot of sitting and standing. We have another class next sat morning to finish the bag. I still have some work to do before next saturday's final class. It is a really cute bag and not really too hard to make.

jan said...

Ok, I guess I will comment as I read a comment from the top.

Chloe, I am sure Emma is just fine the weight she is. My GD Amie, the mother of Abigail, was tiny and petite too. She also preferred vegs and fruits like your Emma. Today, she is very healthy and is 5 ft 7 in. So she grew to be a little taller than her mom who is 5 ft 7 in. She is still very healthy and eats lots of vegs and fruits but also likes meat now too. She has never been one who likes sweet stuff - so she is nice and slim - but she also works out regularly.

jan said...

OK, back to comments above.

jan said...

"... don't forget what her favorite toy is - it's her little plastic shopping cart."

Chloe, LOL above, I do remember you saying you like to shop. Of course, she does too.

jan said...

"By the way, it is raining again today, pretty good rain too...only in the 40s..."

Coreen, I am envious, I would love a cool day with rain. I do miss that living in the desert.

jan said...

Carol, sorry your friends didn't make it out yesterday. I too hate it when I buy food and stuff and people don't make it. The beer will keep so put it away for another day or night. Wish I could come and share that food with you - I would bring a bottle of wine, Don't care much for beer. I drank it with friends in grad school in Austin, but have not had much since then.

Interesting about SF. Sounds like he is going downhill. Is that a correct assumption?

jan said...

Chloe, while reading about your Easter basket for Emma reminded me of my DIL the other day. She said last year was the first year she didn't make Easter baskets for her 2 sons - they were 24 and 21 last year. She is very big into traditions.

jan said...

Carol, I did make my swim Friday. That night I had to get my stuff ready for my class sat. It wound up taking me several hours until 11 pm to get it all ready. I guess that is why I didn't check in here until now. Thanks for reminding me. I forgot when I was last here.

jan said...

Carol, your creamed eggs on toast sounded good. Sounds a lot like what my mother used to make. However, after reading the last about "bird poop on a shingle" sort of ruined it - LOL

Carol said...

Jan, The French would call it a creamed egg in a Béchamel sauce. We have a lot of French influence down here but we've have dumbed it down quite a bit and added lots of Tony's seasoning salt. Maybe the influence of beer resulted in both the dumbing down and the need for lots of spicy seasoning.

Carol said...

Sorry about the bird poop comment. I was thinking about what those in the service called shit on a shingle and that just popped out.

Carol said...

Of course I don't have beer as an excuse since I don't drink the stuff either.

jan said...

I don't know who here was talking about the Great Scot's tree- so I went and checked it out. It is so interesting here in the desert how something can look totally dead and then is revived in the spring - and with so little moisture. We do have an abundance of sunshine = chloraphil.

Thanks for mentioning our tree. It has come back to life - with a vengeance. I wish you could see it. I will take pictures today and post sometime soon. John and I are amazed. It is a strange looking tree in that the middle lost a bunch of limbs but it has leafed like nothing I have ever seen before. It is a testament to the power of nature. We are so glad now that we had it trimmed but not cut down. We do call it our "Charlie Brown" tree - lovingly of course.

jan said...

Hi Carol, wondered where you were. I must leave and color my hair. Each time I color it, I wonder How much longer I will do this. When will I just be content to let it be. I have it really short now. I seldom wear makeup any longer. It is all just too time consuming and seems to make little difference any more. I remember in nursing school, while studying psych nursing that they said that a symptom of depression in women was when she didn't put on her make up. That is really pretty sexist, isn't it. I have know many women who do not wear make up and I would certainly not consider them depressed.

jan said...

Well, here comes John up the steps- coming home from Church. He says they "kicked him out of the Easter egg hunt - just for pushing the little kids out of the way." He keeps me laughing.

Gotta go. again Happy Easter to all of my dear friends.

Carol said...

Jan, a good sense of humor can make up for a lot and can get you thru a lot.

I just came back from Wally World. Got some more flower to plant. They should have been marked down because they all were a little distressed looking. A bunch of Charlie Brown flowers. Hope I can save them.

I also went without a bath or makeup. Actually I still have the makeup I put on yesterday. I tried to rub off some of the marcara that had run under my eyes. Even when I have fresh makeup on, people think I don't wear any. They'd really be scared to see me when I don't.

My hair is short, recent haircut and the wakeup bed hair is not quite as bad as it is when I need a haircut. It was kinda sticking up in places but I put a little goop in it and tried to pretend that's how I wanted it to look. LOL.

One good thing about getting older is that, at least for me, I don't care about looking good.

I tried the haircolor thing a few times but I prefer gray to pink, orange or green. That's what mine does when I try to color it.

Carol said...

I'm watching Wild Hogs and laughing and it only got 1 1/2 stars. It stars Tim Allen, John Travolta and Martin Lawrence. Can't help but be funny.

jan said...

Carol, I heard that Wild Hogs is a really funny movie. We have not been able to get movies at Red Box recently. It won't take our cards - they are both debit and credit. Don't know why this is just happening. We have always been able to use them before. Have tried both John's and my cards.

jan said...

I put on make up once in a while for an evening outing. I quit wearing it to work. Just too much trouble. Not many women wear make up here. It is a really different place.

jan said...

I am going to Bill's (#1 son) house for dinner. Usually Terry and his wife have Easter dinner, but she had the appendectomy a few weeks ago and Terry asked Bill and his wife if they would have it this year. We have a system worked out - I do thanksgiving, Bill and DIL do Christmas and Terry and DIL do Easter. It is a good system. We sort of rotate other get-togethere.

jan said...

All dinners are usually pot luck with the host/ess doing main dish and rest of us contribute other dishes. I am taking the veg dis today and bread. John is not feeling well. He has been a little under the weather for a few days. I let him off the hook and will bring his dinner home. I got him a roasted chic at store and will leave him some veggies. I also bought him a couple of decorated Easter cookies. He loves cookies.

jan said...

I wish my hair was white. It is a not so pretty shade of grey - which I don't like. The coloring is pretty easy to do myself. Growing up in a beauty shop helped. I can't cut my own hair though.

jan said...

Well, better get my dishes finished. Talk to you later.

Carol said...

Coreen, I see where you got up in the 60s today and 70s predicted for next week.

Carol said...

Well is anyone getting worked up about the Royal Wedding? I'm not.

Carol said...

They are marketing this wedding to the max. It's shameful, including Will and Kate condoms and a Will and Kate side by side refrig.

Carol said...

Jan, I hope John is feeling better.

jan said...

I hope my friends here had a Blessed Easter Sunday. I had a nice time at my sons house. I took lots of pics of baby Abigail. She loved playing in the grass. It was new to her - as she does not have grass at her house. She is 15 months old and has been walking 4 months but the grass was thick and high and she was so funny walking in it. I got one pic of her walking in the grass and it looks like she is marching.

jan said...

Carol, John is feeling better. I think he is just suffering from allergies. We have had so much wind in past weeks. He is a little dizzy when stands up from lying down. I think it is just orthostatic hypotension. I told him to stand up slowly.

jan said...

John is not taking any meds that would cause the OH. I think it is probably just the aging process.

jan said...

I have to admit I am buzzed about the royal wedding. I am going to tape it. I will not get up at 2 am to watch it.

jan said...

Chloe, Emma has such a beautiful smile. Her little face just shows how happy she is. I wish Abigail would smile for pictures. I could not get her to smile. She will smile when my son (her granddad) plays with her, but she is not a smiling baby. I remember her mother was like that too. I took a bunch of pics of Abigail yesterday, and she is not smiling in any of them. She is 15 months old now. She only weighs 19 1/2 lbs. She is in 3% for wt but in 75% for ht. Amie said the doc says she is fine in wt as she is still on her own curve for growth. She only weighed 5 lbs 13 oz at birth.

Anonymous said...

Jan, I can't wait to see the pictures of Abigail. You remember I could never get Emma to smile for pictures at that age either, even though she was always smiling at other times.

It's so cute the way you describe her walking on the grass. I remember when Emma first walked on grass, and it was such an adventure for her. Even now, it is when we're some place that has that really thick, blanket grass that's hard to keep your balance on. Ours' is thin. I can't wait to see how Abigail looks in her little march.

Anonymous said...

Glad John is feeling better, and that you had such a good time with the kids and grand kids.

I swear that light headed thing that lasts for a few days is a virus or something in the environment every so often. Once in a great while, we both get the same thing (although at different times) and it may last a day or two, or even a few day, then goes away. Make sure he's eating enough protein. When I'm not, I get light headed. You don't have to get it from beef and chicken only. Beans are another good source of protein, as well as dairy products (I can't tolerate too much dairy myself, though).

Carol, Hope your first day back at work is not to overloaded and stressful. I could never keep up with your schedule.

I don't know how creditable this is. But I do know our economy is still getting worse, and the fuel prices are going to continue to inflate, and therefore inflate everything we buy. I've been giving it a lot of thought lately, and am trying to work on our finances and cost of living, to make sure we'll be able to ride it through, regardless of what happens. I do think that each of us should be looking out for our best interests at this point (that's the only way we'll be able to help those around us).

IMF bombshell: Age of America nears end
Commentary: China’s economy will surpass the U.S. in 2016

"According to the IMF forecast, whomever is elected U.S. president next year — Obama? Mitt Romney? Donald Trump? — will be the last to preside over the world’s largest economy.

... Under PPP, the Chinese economy will expand from $11.2 trillion this year to $19 trillion in 2016. Meanwhile the size of the U.S. economy will rise from $15.2 trillion to $18.8 trillion. That would take America’s share of the world output down to 17.7%, the lowest in modern times. China’s would reach 18%, and rising. Just 10 years ago, the U.S. economy was three times the size of China’s. "

Yep, America might be broke but there are a bunch of greedy shisters out there who are sitting on a mountain of money. We ought to turn them upside down and shake it out of them.

I didn't have to work today. The hospital that employs me has Easter Monday off. He,he, he.

I'm mostly goofing off today.

Johns problems could be a number of things. I have lots of older folkes at the joint who suffer the same symptoms. Likely something that has affected his inner ear and balance. Is he losing hearing also. That will often accompany the lightheadedness.

I find myself with the same problem at times. I do a lot more swaying than I used to and have to be carefull with any quick moves of my head or I'll get dizzy.

Can be secondary to an infection like Chloe said. It's called acute labyrinthitis:

Or result from those dang allergies.

Jan, I saw those cute pics on Facebook. I wondered where the grass came from. They must have to work at it in your neck of the woods.

My neighbors put down all this dirt next door. He also put down some grass seeds but we haven't have but one little rain since. He brought some stuff for watering but didn't come often and watering that is a many hour job. I started watering it for him. I even bought a better sprinkler because I didn't like the one he had.

Carol said...

Ya'll with the price of gas and everything else going up, can you imagine what it is like for those out of work or making minimun wage?? So many people are losing their houses and vehicles. I know several. It's awful!

Carol said...

And Jan, we've been having lots of wind here also. I'm sure Chloe is also. River has surf on it. My friend said she heard it's because we're between a high and a low pressure system. I won't complain because it's better than the tornados or the floods our friends to the north are dealing with.

That wind does stir up pollen and even brings it in from many miles away. They said the wind will be around for a few more days.

Used to be March winds then April showers. Everything has been a little late this year. I hope we don't get too much in the way of rain next month but we could use some. We are far behind.

Didn't see any owls this year. I wonder if all the loopla last year scared them off. Remember little Vertigo. Also I have lots of squirrels and they go in and out of that old owl hole. Maybe the place was just too busy or they might not like my being out here all the time.

Last night I heard owls hooping it up. Lots of chatter. I did hear some hooting coming from the owl tree area. I thought that maybe they were just sneaky this year but I would have seen some shadows flying over or hear those begging calls.

Carol said...

Just went back to see when the owls were raising the babies last year and I found the little Vertigo post on April 5th.

Are ya ready for some dancing?? Pia is suppose to be singing this week. Mary and I think that might be tomorrow since that is when they have someone sing while the professionals dance.

Coreen,I just heard on the news that a woman found a 7 ft. alligator in her bathroom...not here..in Tampa. She thinks it got in thru her doggie door.

Don't worry Coreen, no doggie door here and lots of steps to climb.

Coreen said...

Finally we turned the corner on winter...the
mallards have been here about a week, the
tree frogs or whatever have been chirping away
the past few evenings, & the pollen is building on the wetlands....so I know spring is now here...

Coreen said...

Just be real careful Carol...that is a disturbing story...more so, the idiotic use of a 'pet door'...not to mention that the cats
should not be allowed outside at all....

By the way are fleas a big problem in the south, here frost would kill them, but since my
cats don't get outside, I have not had that
problem...how about ticks...do you have them
there...we have the ticks that can give you
lyme disease...I know several people who have
been bitten & wound up with it...

Coreen said...

About the royal wedding...zero interest...

Saw a commercial for Pia being on DWTS...with
Mark Ballas....

Seems that her being booted from Idol, has turned into a career boost, at least for now...

Carol said...

Nice to know there is someone besides myself who feels that the Royal wedding is not their cup of tea.

Coreen said...

Kirstie did a GREAT SAMBA...

Carol said...

I've had problems in the past with fleas but not since they invented that Advantage. I've never had a tick problem. But I have found one on me before when hiking in the woods. Need to get them off right away.

Coreen said...

ABout time the judges liked her....

Carol said...

She earned it tonight. I get almost as nervous as she does. Worried about another malfunction.

Carol said...

Max is a different man this season. I don't have to feel quilty lusting after his ass.

Carol said...

I do like Chris but I do have to agree with Bruno. Chris looked scared and he did lose timing.

Coreen said...

Chris' tango seemed a bit flat...

And Romeo waltzed into everyone's heart tonite...agree with Len that he has grown into
an excellent ballroom dancer, all dances...

Carol said...

I love me some Romeo.

Carol said...

Romeo is sooo un what you would expect from a young AA rapper. And he loved Titantic?? Some young woman will one day be very lucky and blessed to catch him.

Coreen said...

Really liked Chelsea's quickstep...she may just be the best dancer of the group...

Carol said...

I'm behind again.

Carol said...

Yes it was good and I always loved that song. I hear it and I have to get up and dance.

Carol said...

For Hines to beat those two, he better literally be walking on sunshine.

Carol said...

Kendra did it. I think she was the best so far.

Carol said...

I'm clapping.

Coreen said...

welll Kendra found a dance that suits all her
attributes...& she did it...wow...

Carol said...

She kicked ass.

Coreen said...

And Bruno...my oh my...

Coreen said...

Oh hines' song boyz2men end of the road...I love that song...

Carol said...

She got screwed. These judges are biased. They'll probably give a 10 if he falls on his ass.

Carol said...

That was suppose to read give Hines a 10 if he falls on his ass. I was trying to type and talk on the phone. I can't.

Carol said...

It was alright.

Carol said...

Oh come on. Who's paying them.

Coreen said...

Hines is really a smooth dancer...I know, you
don't like his dancing...but he is smooth...

Carol said...

I'm sorry but I'm not under Hine's spell.

Carol said...

He's got the voodoo on you too.

Carol said...

And Coreen, Kendra certainly couldn't hide a single move with that outfit. She's finally showing some self confidence. We've witnessed some real growth in her.

Coreen said...

Something went wrong in the Kid's dance, when she fell?, but then they started to get it back...my only problem is the costuming...his
are well silly...

Carol said...

I had to rewind that twice to figure out what happened. Was that her fault?? Looks like it was. He did do well after they recovered from that.

Coreen said...

it was that ridiculous costume...tripped her up...

Carol said...

I didn't even notice her fall at first, I just thought that he was making some weird faces. Then they mentioned a recovery and I went back to watch again. I think he did amazing considering that fall. She took a hard tumble.

Carol said...

Yes it was a bad outfit.

Carol said...

I was afraid that Romeo's partner's dress might trip him.

Coreen said...

I want to call this a draw, everyone wins...

they are all so very close in the dances...they are all doing really well every week...hard to pick one to go...

Carol said...

Now to wait for John and Jan's opinion. She ought to check out what we say first so she can scrutinize each dance better. It's not like it would be giving away any mysteries.

Derek is on the show after DWTS.

Carol said...

I've eaten at least two Gold Brick eggs today, maybe three. I might have repressed eating one. That's why I didn't go back to Walmart for more. I have no self control with that candy. I'm turning into Kirsty.

Coreen said...

Sorry Carol, no idea what gold brick eggs are...never heard of them...who makes them...

Carol said...

Now to wait for Pure DWTS. I like their critique. They seem to more agree with me.

Damn, I'm taking this too serious!

Carol said...

Did my civic duty.

Carol said...

Elmers makes them. They come in milk chocolate, dark chocolate, and now malted. They have pieces of pecan in them.

Carol said...

I have to wait for a year to get them.

Carol said...

And the dancing and the candy just go with my philosophy of...anything worth doing is worth overdoing.

Coreen said...

Thinking they may be a southern item...can't say I ever saw them here...

Coreen said...

In the meantime, yankees just lost to the white sox (of all teams) 2-0...hard to believe
they could not score ONE run tonight....

Carol said...

Do you look thru all the Easter candy? They are the best.

Carol said...

What city are the White Sox from?

Coreen said...

No...I like milk chocolate only...

Chicago...

Coreen said...

A candy I always liked was a mallo cup..some kind of marshmellow in a chocolate cup, like a peanut butter cup...very sweet, rarely see them
here..sometimes in rite aid or cvs or walgreens
they were available by mail order though...

Carol said...

Elmers also make Heavenly Hash, marshmellow, almonds and chocolate coating.

Coreen said...

Looks like Elmers Chocolate is made in Ponchatula, Louisiana outside New Orleans...and primarily serves the Gulf Coast...

Carol said...

Sorry..you're out of luck for some good candy.

jan said...

OK, I am just checking in. I have been working on my quilted bag all day. Now am ready for my last lesson on firday and finish it.

jan said...

I have read through all of your comments about DWTS. NOw here is what I think. I thought the best dances were from Romeo and Chelsea. That Romeo is quite the Romeo. He just sort of sneaks in and steals your heart - or at least mine. I thought Kirstie did great. Chelsea was excellent. Kendra was a surprise. She really shook her bootie and her "they were not given me by God" boobs. I thought Hines did not do that well. He must be paying off the judges. I like Hines but did not care much for his dancing tonight. I watched the Kid dance but missed his partner's fall until they reran it.

jan said...

Somehow I think Romeo is the one to beat. He has improved a lot, is smooth and I think will get a lot of votes.

jan said...

I am so glad Pia is singing on DWTS tomorrow night. I look forward to that.

jan said...

John still likes Hines and Kirstie. He thought Kendra danced well tonight.

jan said...

Our winds have come late this year. They ususally happen in March. But of course Easter was late too.

jan said...

We are predicted to get wind gusts of up to 75 tomorrow.

Carol said...

We got a nice shower this morning..a badly needed one. The only problem is that it was a little noisy and woke me up at 3. The rain gauge reads almost 2 inches. I think we were about 22 inches behind. They only predicted a 10% chance of rain but it looked better than that to me last night.

Carol said...

Jan, I hope your winds don't reach that kind of speed. Do you get those kind of winds at times? I know the west coast sometimes gets really strong winds. One year my sister up in Seattle got some serious winds that took down one of her trees. A few days later we had some really strong winds.

I remember that so well because that was the night I thought I had a UFO land in my yard. I was awakened by this really strange noise like a high pitched 60 cycle hum. At the same time this bright light flooded the entire neighborhood. I jumped out of bed and looked out my bedroom window and saw this huge spot light move over my yard. At the same time..my answering machine was clicking on and off.

In my state of semi awakeness and mental confusion, a UFO landing was the only explanation I could come up with. I know that was a stretch. I finally looked out my front room window and saw a huge ball of bright light moving down the powerlines.

It brought all the neighbors outside. What was happening was that the tall trees across the road were blowing and arching the power lines. It should have cut off the power but that took a while. One neighbor ran to another neighbor's house shouting that that fireball was going to hit my house and burn it down. We had two Entergy employees in the hood.

While I thought it was a UFO..my next door neighbor thought it was the rapture. I preferred the UFO explanation.

You're right about the wind on the west coast, Carol. I've never seen it blow like that here (unless there's a really bad storm). There it was almost an every day occurrence, at least at the last place we lived. We got the Santa Ana winds, and they had a long, hot passage through the areas where we lived.

We were pleased to have so little wind when we moved here. It wouldn't have even been considered wind in California (more of a breeze). That's why my allergies have gotten so much less here. The dry air was murder on me, but the humidity has helped me tremendously.

I'm so glad we moved here -- in every way imaginable. We had a great life in California, and there are many things about it I remember fondly. I'm glad that I spent most of my life there, but I feel we're right where we belong now. This state has been so good to us.

Anonymous said...

Ha! When I first mentioned making a move to Texas to hubby, he was mortified. He said no way he'd ever move to Texas. We'd always looked down on the southern states, like so many northern states do (believe, I've heard it all first hand).

They were having the Republican National Convention here that year, and that's the only reason I started hearing about it. I was only following politics at that time, because I loved Bill Clinton so much.

The more I learned, the more it sounded like it would suit our needs at the time. There was no internet then (or at least not that I knew of), so I had to make phone calls and write letters. I even subscribed to the Houston papers. It took me quite a while, but hubby finally agreed. The rest is history.

Have a great day everyone!

Jan, I hope you enjoy your last class this evening. Hope we see a pic of creation when you're done.

jan said...

Chloe, my last class is next Sat. Thank heaven I don't have a class tonight. I am really weary today. I do need to go out and buy a new rotary cutter for fabric. I am staying in tonight. The winds are bad right now and probably will be worse tonight.

Carol said...

Afternoon everyone. Jan we are also blowing in the wind here and it is appropriate since my Folk Rewind CDs finally arrived today and I'm jamming here listening to them. It only took 5 months. I guess they rushed them.

Bob Dylan, The Kingston Trio, Brothers Four, Peter, Paul and Mary, Mamas and Papas, The Byrds, Spanky and Our Gang, and many, many more. Member any of them? Over 100 songs. 50 and 60s. Brings me back, way back.

Being in a folk music band was one of my childhood fantasies.

Coreen said...

I remember Sunday mornings, I would meet him at the park....Sundays will never be the same...

I liked Spanky & our Gang's "Sunday Morning", but have to put them in the one-hit wonders group...can't remember any other hit song...

As you may surmise though I was not a 'folk'
music fan...Really never liked Dylan...

Only liked PPM's Puff the Magic Dragon....Mamas
& the Papas...they were in a class of their own...Didn't everyone do some California Dreamin back then...though once I visited CA, I never wanted to live there...

jan said...

I had several Peter, P & M albums. Still love their music. Also Mamas and Papas. Don't remember Spanky. et al.

jan said...

Some real bad weather going on in our home state - Arkansas. Vilonia is just about 20-25 miles from Little Rock. John and I have lots of family and friends there. One friend in LR is saying they have spent several nights in middle hallway this month b/c of sirens going off.

Coreen said...

But today could have been an old fashioned CA
day here...started out real foggy, & as the day
went on...almost a perfect day...the smidge of
humidity reduced it from a 10 to maybe a 7....warm, sunny, high 70s...a tiny breeze...
but it's not going to last...

I still like sunny, gentle breeze, no higher than 70-72, & no humidity...that to me is a perfect day...hoping to see a few the next couple of months...

I did turn the heat off today...hoping to not
need heat until the fall & no AC for at least a month...

My last heating oil delivery was $4.50/gallon...I have
no idea how people are going to be able to manage that come fall/winter...

Coreen said...

Jan, hope your family/friends stay safe...

Guessing you are referring to sirens to alert
for possible tornados, something we have rarely
experienced here...

Carol said...

You'll remember this one Coreen, 1968:

I'd Like to Get to Know You

Carol said...

Jan, did you check on your friends today? I thought that I heard that some small town north of LR was almost wiped out.

Carol said...

Most of the bad weather is north of here. Last night our weather guy said we most likely would get nothing but Maggie and I were huddled up around 3a when a loud thunder bumper nothing moved thru. I didn't get much sleep.

They are saying the same thing tonight but I see some scary stuff moving this way so I'll keep an eye on it. We needed the almost 2 inches of rain we got.

The south wind has blown the river way up and they have a flood warning. Not predicted to be too high though, just at flood stage. It's that wind.

Carol said...

One thing I am really interested in re: the royal wedding is William's tribute to his mum, Princess Di. I was a big fan of hers. I will record it to see that.

Coreen said...

Oh Carol, I loved that song...did not remember
that was theirs until you put up the title...then immediately it came into my head...

Carol said...

That's how I feel about most of the songs on these folk CDs. Brings back good memories.

Coreen said...

Today in the car I heard 3 great songs that I
loved...

My favorite Elvis....Kentucky Rain

Anita Baker's...Sweet Love...

And a one-hit wonder by a woman named Des'ree...You gotta be....which I always thought should be a woman's anthem...don't know
if you ever heard it...

the chorus says:
You gotta be bad, you gotta be bold, you gotta be wiser...
You gotta be hard, you gotta be tough, you gotta be stronger...
You gotta be cool, you gotta be calm, you gotta stay together...All I know, all I know,
love willl save the day...

Let me see if I can find it on youtube...

Coreen said...

Found it...amazing what the net holds with just a click...
You Gotta Be

Carol said...

I do know it and love it.

Coreen said...

Are you watching DWTS...I keep switching yankees playing...didn't they say that Pia is
going to sing soon...I didn't miss it did I...

Carol said...

I'm semi watching and recording it, in case I miss something.

Coreen said...

Pia has a truly beautiful voice & Tom Bergeron said it so right....how the hell did you get booted off!!!

Carol said...

I'm glad Kendra didn't get the boot tonight. On that Pure DWTS, they don't like her even though they had to admit she did well last night. They still wanted her to go. It's going to be a toss up for the two at the bottom.

Carol said...

I feel pretty sure that Hines will win this thing. I would rather see Romeo or Chelsae win it.

Carol said...

One run behind, bottom of the 9th, two outs???

Coreen said...

and the yankees just lost again...they had the chance in the 9th & the white sox right fieldeer grabbed 2 really hard hits at the wall to win the game 3-2....

Carol said...

Not a good night Coreen?

Carol said...

I know Coreen. Sorry.

Carol said...

Time to walk the Magster and iron. With the water coming up, the wharf is becoming less of an obstacle to Allie. We'll be careful.

Coreen said...

Here's another perspective on DWTS from a blogger who posts on Jamie's page...He does a pretty in depth critique of the dancers each week...
Travs Thoughts

Coreen said...

Oh no Carol, don't like to hear that...be safe
please...

Carol said...

I'll check that out Coreen. I like to read what others think.

I turned on AC 360 and he was interviewing Trump again. Again they were talking about that dang birth certificate. I'm with Chloe. If he could shut these people up by bringing out the original birth certificate, why doesn't he.

Obama's camp says that they will just raise the bar to something else. I'm not crazy about that answer. Might just be something on that birth certificate that would bring up other issues.

After that excuse from Obama's camp..they pulled the race card again. That also made me uneasy. I think that's gonna get old. I think this may be why Trump won't let it go either. The more Obama avoids this.. the more fishy things seem.

Maybe Trump is just playing a role for the Republicans in this game. He can afford to look kookie.. he even seems to enjoy it.

Carol said...

Even Michelle Bachmann has backed off on the BC thing. I bet they are going to let the Donald tackle that one because he probably isn't serious about running. At least not at this point.

Those Republicans are crafty..creepy but crafty.

Carol said...

With Trump and this BC and Levi Johnson writing a tell all on the Palin..there's no wonder why they are doing away with the soap operas. They can't compete with politics.

Carol said...

Elizabeth Warren is on the Daily Show tonight. If you read this late.. you can catch it several times tomorrow on Comedy Central. Check your TG guide.

Carol said...

And Jon is good tonight. I don't watch much of the news anymore.. I get the news I need on the Daily Show and Colbert. They show our politicians..both sides..for the the pea brains they have. Yes..politics is a soap opera!

Carol said...

Yes it is sad..but humorous and I'd rather laugh than cry.

Carol said...

Jan..what do you think about DWTS. Sad to see the cute dude go?

jan said...

It was great to hear Pia sing on DWTS. I still can't believe she got booted off Idol. She had a great answer to Tom Bergeron's question as to "how did you get kicked off Idol? She said, "There is a reason for everything." I think that is what she said. "YOU GO GIRL"

jan said...

Not a surprise that it was Chris that got the boot on DWTS. Kendra really did so well this week. That was really her dance. I hope this boosts her confidence.

Well, Good night all.

jan said...

Thanks for asking about our friends and family in Arkansas. I taught a couple of years at Univ of Central AR in Conway which is just a few miles from Vilonia. Conway is on I-40 on the way to LR.

Carol said...

Jan..did you check with them since that tornado went thru their town??

jan said...

My son and his family live in Arkadelphia which is 60 miles south of Little Rock. John has 2 nieces in Little Rock and a sister in Newport, AR - which is in the direction of Memphis. My ex and his wife live in Little Rock. We are saying prayers for all there. John has lived all over Ark and has many friends there.

jan said...

Carol, we have not checked with anyone. I believe all our family is safe or we would have heard. I don't know about friends. John gets the Little Rock paper on line so he will hear more tomorrow.

jan said...

We also get a lot of news on facebook as many of our friends in AR are on Facebook.

jan said...

Carol, yes I hated to see Chris go. I thought he did a good job.

jan said...

Good night again.
