I hope you have a wonderful birthday Jan. And for your birthday..I got you a little picture of my favorite bird. Don't be too critical. I had to take it through a window..with my zoom on full..and holding the camera in my hand. Didn't get much quality but it is the thought that counts..OK.

There's a female Cardinal checking out the new kid saying.."never seen you before..what you doing in our hood?"
Oops..I think I'm a day early. I got confused by the last blog post. I posted it on 4/12 but just read where you wrote that 4/13 is your BD. Happy Birthday early!
Nothing wrong with starting early.
Happy Birthday (early) Jan!!!
Hope you have the day off tomorrow, so you and John can celebrate.
(You're right Carol, nothing wrong with starting a little early.)
Jan,
Did you celebrate with your family while they were all together this weekend?
Carol, You got a 'great' shot of that little Indigo Bunting. Enlarged, you got a very clear look.
After you pointing out that they're ground feeders, I realized that may be one of the reason I haven't seen one (because it would 'definitely' catch my eye. When I'm home, I see most of the birds through my windows one story up. The majority are Cardinals (love the bright red ones) and the 'relatively huge' Blue Jays - rowdy little rascals that they are. Also beautiful, just the same.
Thanks for the b'day wishes Carol & Chloe. John is taking me to Santa Fe this weekend - fri and sat nights. I have a fav hotel there - the La Fonda - on the Plaza. It is in the middle of everything. A little pricey but what the hay - its my B'day. He scheduled me a massage. I want to revisit the Georgia O'Keefe art museum. It is different every time we go. The La Fanda is in a great location to do some great walking and seeing all the neat shops and other sights.
Had a few minutes to read before taking Em to school.
Brain Tumor Vaccine Shows Promise in Early Trials
"When joined together in a vaccine, introducing the tumor cells to the dendritic cells "trains" the immune system to recognize cancer cells and mount an attack, the researchers said.' http://news.yahoo.com/s/hsn/20110412/hl_hsn/braintumorvaccineshowspromiseinearlytrials
Has anyone here noticed that more and more people seem to be getting brain cancer? The wife of a guy who works for us was recently diagnosed with it -- she's 42.
I've been noticing it in the news for the past few years now, and I forgot that Ted Kennedy also died of it. Gene Siskel (of Siskel and Ebert) is one of the early ones I remember dying from it. Then others came along, including Robert Novak as one of the more recent ones.
I wonder if cell phones are affecting people who use them a lot. Seems like I heard of several people who get the disease are in journalism, including Lard from TM. I've been puzzled over hearing how much more common it's become, when I never heard of it at all in the distant past. Maybe I'm just more aware of it because of the internet. ??
Bought a nook color last night. I can hardly wait to start using it. Got to set up an account for books through Barnes and Noble.
Bugs emerge to bug us, and a few pose health risks
"Mosquito bites probably are the most common. Sure we've been told to watch out for them at dusk and dawn. But the Asian tiger mosquito — a fairly recent immigrant that has spread to 30 states since arriving hidden in some tires in Texas — bites all day long. It's a more aggressive, harder-to-swat version than native species, Coddington says." http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110412/ap_on_he_me/us_med_healthbeat_what_bit_me
Carol, your picture is great of the indigo bunting and cardinal. They are great. I want to come and sit in your yard swing.
Hey Jan! I'm about to leave, but glad you popped in. Your weekend sounds perfect. Sounds like you'll have an extended birthday celebration -- my favorite kind.
"I want to revisit the Georgia O'Keefe art museum."
I read up on her a little not to long ago, and the long love affair she had with the desert. She was an amazing woman and painter.
.. gotta run
Chloe, I could have taken the day off but I could have. I like to stretch my hours out over the week so I have time every day to exercise and get some rest. It makes the week go better for me. When we are young we like "full" days off to do fun things. Interesting the contrast, isn't it?
not very good editing - I meant I could have taken day off but chose not too.
bye Chloe, hope yours is a good day. A big hug and kiss for little Em
Carol, Thank you so much for the post for me and my birthday. I am so happy that we have connected again.
You guys are truly my best friends (apart from John). I talk with you more than any other people on a regular basis. I always look forward to checking in here and see what you are doing and talking about.
Chloe, we didn't celebrate my b'day this past weekend. Three of the kids had b'days over the past 2 weeks and I wanted to celebrate their birthdays- which we did.
Interesting about brain tumors. My former father in law died of a brain tumor in 2000. He was 81. We all thought he would die of heart failure as he had HF for many years. He did not ever use a cell phone however.
If you get a chance, look up Kirstie (Kirstie Alley) on wikopedia. George Lopez called her a "pig" Look up her response on Wikopedia. He later apologized and her response to his apology is even better.
You Rock Kirstie!
Chloe, those Asian tiger mosquitos have been around my parts for quite a while now. They're harder to swat because they are so small that you don't know they are there until they bite ya. I still mostly notice them just after sunrise and just before sunset. It takes the regular guys a little after dark to start buggin ya.
Even though those guys are no seeums, their bite packs a wallop. I welp up more with the bite and itch much more than the regular mosquitos. Can't remember any recent bites because we've had drought conditions this and last year so all mosquitos have been less of a problem.
Jan, I read about Kirsty. Very tacky George!
Jan, a most happy birthday either day...
Great news about your B&N Color Nook...
honestly most reviews say that it is
better than the Kindle....it apparently does
more things, one of which I believe may be to allow you to 'borrow' books from a library...
something Kindly does not do...You will have to let me know if that is the case when you get to know more about it...
Carol, is that bird really as turquoise blue
as it looks on my screen...I have never seen
any bird that color...what a treat...
And who is George Lopez anyway...some third rate, low class comic...is he the one who had a cable talk show...if its the same guy I saw in ads for it...what an absolute low-life loser...
That's the color Coreen. Now you know why it's my favorite birdie. It's only here for a short time and I don't always catch a glimpse of one. When I do, it's a gift from God! I've seen only 4 so far.
Yep, yep and yep, on George Lopez.
Well, as for DWTS, I have a feeling that it will be Kendra who gets the boot. I think she was underscored by the judges and some were overscored. I don't think she has the fan base that many of the others have. She certainly did better than Kirsty but I like Kirsty and I'm pulling for her cuz I can relate to her.
Jan, why did you choose the color nook? Was it your or John's idea? I know he's the early adopter so I was guessing it might be him that wanted some variety in the gadgets you guys have.
Well, that was a little bit of a surprise. I'm just finding out the results. I got behind again. I was really expecting Kendra to go down because she is not as likable as SR is. But in a way I do understand where she is coming from and I can identify with some of her insecurity.
I tried to take a dancing class, when I was in my teens, after being in a little theater musical. I was placed in a class with dancers who were also in that musical and had been dancing since they were kids. I was so self conscious. It was so uncomfortable that I had to drop out. When I watch Kendra, it brings back the feelings I had when I was in that class.
But what is totally inconsistant with what we are seeing now with Kendra is that she could have ever been a stripper???? Certainly can't identify with her there.
Jan, did you start celebrating tonight? Hope so.
At least there was no shock tonight on DWTS. If it had been Chelsea, you could have heard me screaming in Connecticut Coreen.
Yes, I think George Lopez is the pig!
I took ballroom dancing as a young teen. I still remember the steps to the cha cha cha. It was nothing like the what they do on DWTS.
Carol, I was terribly self-conscious too.
Carol, I am not really celebrating. I took a long walk tonight. I get a little down before a birthday, and tonight was no exception. I cannot explain it. I try not to think about it. I really don't mind getting older- It is just a day.
Massachusetts Governor Duval Patrick was on the Daily Show tonight. He really impressed me. He said he was quoting Barney Frank when he said that "Government is just the name we give to the things we choose to do together." I like that quote.
The Republicans want us to think that "government" is a dirty word but we all need "government". Only problem is that most of the Republican politicians think that the government should not be there to help people it should be there for them to exploit to get rich or for the rich to get richer.
And what really floors me is that everyone hasn't yet recognized that fact. They certainly don't hide it or even try to disquise it. They shout it out on TV in stereo and high definition!
Just remember Jan that tomorrow you will only be a day older..not a year older. It's just your day to celebrate life.
And I'm really jealous of your weekend and your getting a massage. I thought about that massage all day today. Still want to get one up in my living room..looking out on my river and nature. I wish my guy that used to do my massages didn't have a bum leg. He's never make my stairs with his equipment.
John is very kind, he wanted to give me some time in a spa in SF. Some of the things they list are so kooky sounding. I have never really been into massages, but I just was not into any thing else listed. I do enjoy this particular hotel in SF. It is old and has so much history. I am looking forward to it.
Carol, this sounds so dumb. I think I am missing my mother and dad.
Something else that makes one wonder. On Colbert this Richard Brookhiser of the National Review said that Romney probably couldn't be successful in a presidential run because of his Romney care. It's weird that creating a successful state healthcare program would eliminate a person's chance of running for president?? Would someone please splain that to me. I'm not making this stuff up.
The only explanation I can think of is that the Republicans feel that anyone who has been successful of achieving anything could not win the presidency. I think that's how they came up with poor George and it worked..didn't it.
Jan..birthdays are for remembering good times..don't think about sad times. There are plenty of days left to be sad. Save it for another day.
Sorry about my political ramblings tonight. I quit most of the regular news and just listen to my comedians do the ridiculonews.
I did also catch a few moment of AC 360 where Anderson was discussing his ridiculist. He had on it anyone who watches Snookie get drunk and throw up and also those who have her speak at a university about it. I happen to agree.
I think about Snookie and the Republican..Snookie and the Republicans..I feel the same about both..neither make any sense to me. They just don't compute.
Nite. I'm going to bed with C2C. Probably more weird stuff.
Happy Birthday Jan. Now.. you think only good thoughts today. OK? Remember you're just one day older like the rest of us. Nothing to fret about there.
Listen to me talk..last BD almost took me out. But then I guess that allows me to tell you not to let it happen to you too.
They called me last night from the AL facility. They said they were sending SF to the hospital..the mental ward..where the shrink who is in charge there bring patients.
It's in another town about 30 miles east of here. That guy also practices in one of our local hospitals but the unit he admits to here was full.
Sunday..SF was doing pretty well mentally but was short of breath when he tried to race walk the long distance back to his room. I asked him what was the rush. He's been SOB for a while. He's gained so much weight because of his cookie/candy/soda obsession. I've thought of cutting him off but thought that when you get to 82 you should be able to pick your poison. His diet went to hell after mom died.
Well..Sunday I went out to my truck and got my stethescope to listen to his lungs because of the loud wheezing. It wasn't coming from his lungs..it was mostly in his upper airway..throat area. He's been doing that for quite a while now and has seen several Docs. He settled down after he rested. I didn't leave with a great feeling though.
The lady who called said he got off the bus..don't know what bus..and got very disoriented and fell into the flowers?? This was almost 8p when they called and I'm not sure when that actually happened. I think they don't want to tell me things. Probably afraid we'll move him and they lose thier money.
I argued with this lady from the AL facility about why he was going to a mental ward. I told her that I'd bet big money that his problem was physical..not mental. I told her that it might be an electolyte problem..an infection..some oxygen deprivation..but it wasn't mental. She did say that he would have better supervision on that unit. Might.
I talked with a lady..a nurse I think..where he was headed. I told her that he needed a good medical workup. I will be checking on him after work..the only time they allow visitors anyway. This won't be very convenient..it's over 30 miles down the road..but what has been convenient when it come to poor SF??
I said I wasn't going to watch AI this week. I guess God's keeping me to that promise. It's on Fox..which isn't on my Dish..so I can't even record it.
I'm kinda worried that maybe SF is starting to realize that he's not going home and maybe he doesn't want to live anymore. The AL facility is certainly nicer that what his home can offer but it's not his home.
Mary and I both thought that SF was perking better mentally this last couple of weeks...
I guess I kinda threw a monkey wrench in my..don't worry about getting another day older..speech. I was sitting on this info since last night and wasn't going to mention it but it just erupted out this morning. Just call me Snookie cuz I can't hold my cookies.
Do have a Happy Birthday Jan. Love you girl! And massage good..very good.
Jan, Happy Birthday!!
I completely missed what you said about getting the Barnes and Noble Nook (missed the comment somehow - until I saw Coreen mention it, so I went back to look). Congrats! How do you like it so far?
Carol,
I am glad that you told us what's going on with SF. I just have to tell you how wrong it is that you're trying to make yourself feel guilty -- that somehow you think that his being where he is, is causing him to lose his will to live. That fear seems to happen to most everyone in your position, when their loved ones have to be hospitalized -- or in a nursing home or assisted living at the end of their life. They feel guilt.
The truth is, that he is getting better care there than he could get at home or anywhere else. These people are professionals, and know how to handle these things. They're not all just the money hungry, uncaring people.
When our time comes, it comes. You did what you had to do to get him the best care that you could. There are no other answers in this particular situation.
The doctor transferred him so he'd get more intense care, and probably also to make sure that he wasn't depressed. They'll be able to watch him closely for a while, and take care of his mental and physical needs with the extra, intensive care. Also in a hospital, they can give him all the tests they need to (which I assume they aren't set up to do in assisted living). I'm sure they'll move him back when they know he's ready.
Meantime, it's time for you to let go of that guilt you seem to need to feel. You always do the best you can do, and that's all you can ask out of anyone. The right decision is not always the easy decision. You made the right one.
Carol, thank you so much for the b'day wishes. I feel better already. I have been tracking this pre-b'day melancholy for years. No matter how much I tell myself "it does not make sense' It still happens every year. I am so glad it is over.
Carol, I ditto everything that Chloe said about SF. You have and are doing so much for him.
Men do have a terrible time with growing older. And men do have a worse time after a spouse/partner dies or leaves. The eating of all the sweets, etc is just another sign of depression.
Chloe, I have charged the Nook but not set up the account for it yet. Had a lot of work to do yesterday. I will get it set up today. I have not had time or energy to play with it yet. I am slow to warm up to new technology.
I actually had lots of fun yesterday. I had to do a developmental assessment on 3 siblings who are in a homeless child care setting. When I got to the facility, the little 27 month old boy was outside in the play yard with the other little toddlers. I went outside and did his gross motor assessment while he was playing. All the other little kids wanted me to play with them too. They would come up and show me their "boo-boos" and take my hand and want me to pick them up. It was such fun for me. It was the best part of my day. I spent about 45 minutes outside with him and his little peers. Then when we went inside, I did the rest of his assessment and hearing screen. He was so cooperative - I think because of our outside play he trusted me. He is the cutest little fellow.
I have decided that if I do any more school, it will be to get some credentialing in developmental assessment and intervention with young children. That is what I love best. I really don't want to do primary care which is what you do Carol.
Carol, I am not sure I will watch Idol either. I will tape it and if I want to watch it later, maybe I will. It just does not interest me as much any longer.
Is it not sad that so many young children are homeless and in shelters when some people in this country are so rich. Makes me mad!
Jan, I'm so glad you are feeling better today. Hope you have a wonderful day.
I'm sad for those little kids without a home and sadder yet that those rich people think they need to be more stinkin rich in a nation where there are little children without homes. There are many good people that believe that is wrong. Unfortunately it ain't the Republicans in our government.
Another thing that was sadly humorous last night was something that Colbert spent two nights strongly pointing out. It was about how Senator Kyl, Republican from Arizona, said that Planned Parenthood spent 90% of their funding on abortions. It was pointed out to him that it was only 3% spent on abortions. Kyl's spokesman used the excuse that Kyl never meant that statement to be factual.
Interesting that a senator can speak in congress, on the record, in front of God and everyone and give misinformation and use the excuse that what he said was never meant to be factual. So I guess it was meant to be a lie.
Colbert and his tweet followers spent yesterday giving out misinformation about Senator Kyl and followed it with the statement "this is not meant to be a factual statement." Those tweets went viral. LOL!
I want to apoligize to Snookie for making a comparison to the Republicans. She may be famous for spewing vomit but she is famous for partying. That certainly ain't as bad as one of our nation's Senators being famous for spewing poop.
Thanks guys for the support re: SF. I did talk with the people where he is at and I feel pretty good about the things I learned. I will go there tonight to check it out in person.
They wanted and I gave them lots of detailed info on SF today. Wanting and getting a good assessment is a very good sign.
Visiting hours are from 6:30 to 8p and it's about 30-40 miles down the road. That means I will definitely miss AI. Hey I said I wasn't going to watch and was starting to weaken on that threat.
I'll miss those AI kids and I feel good that Pia has a record deal and a new boyfriend. That might be why they advertised that so much. They might have been trying to sooth us savage beasts who were pissed off.
Oh, and to make things just a little better, I spent a little time doing some clinic work in the town where I'm headed tonight. They had this hamburger joint that served the best hamburger in SW La. I haven't had one in years.
I couldn't remember the name but googled best burger and the name of the little town and the little drive in name came up. I called to ask if they still had the same burger they had 8-9 years ago. They said they did. I said, good, then I'll come to town hungry. There's always a little silver lining in every cloud, right?
I'm kinda salivating right now.
Nice going Carol...a messy greasy burger with all the extras...while I have my veggieburger with pickles & ketchup....Enjoy it...
hope that what you find about your SF is not too stressful...
Cold, rainy night but its time for Yankees...last night's game was rained out...
Game temp is only 46 & cold...We have not shaken off winter's chill just yet...but soon
I hope...
Catch you later...
Well the burger was good but not as good as I remembered it. Nothing really is ever as good as I remember it but then I did snack a little before I headed over there so I wasn't as hungry as I needed to be to truely appreciate it.
I got home to the last Idol singer, heavy metal, my favoite...not!
I guess Jan will have to let me know how everyone did and she wasn't sure if she was even going to watch. Reruns online won't start until tomorrow.
I saw SF. He was still a little confused about things but I'm sure it doesn't help a demented old guy to be moved from unfamiliar place to unfamiliar place. I'm starting to get disoriented myself.
He had a black eye that wasn't there Sunday. I guess that happened yesterday when he fell. The AL facility didn't give me all the details of the incident. I really think it is time for him to move on the a nursing home. The nurse at this new place, who doesn't even know him much or me, mentioned that. She also mentioned that families are often in denial about having to put their family members into a nursing home. I think she is right. She's a psych nurse and I think she has me pegged.
I was thinking his lab may be all screwed up but the only thing that was screwed up was his fasting blood sugar. All that weight he gained and the candy and sodas that got him that way has taken it's toll on him. He now has diabetes. At least it is early and getting some weight off will probably take care of the problem. No more junk food.
Well, I feel like I just got up and now it's time to iron and go back to bed.
Jan, how was your BD?? Do you have to work tomorrow? Are you out partying?
Carol, I had one of the best days I have had this year. Almost all my kids and grandkids called, texted or came by to visit. Bill and Kathy took us out to dinner. Terry came by and brought me a little rosebush to plant outside and a beautiful card. Steve and his family called.
plus all my friends here have made it a special 2 days too. Thank you all so very much.
Coreen, hope your Yankees are doing good. Let us know what they are doing.
Carol, I am so sorry to hear things are not going well for SF. I feel sad for him, but he is probably in the best place for him and it does sound like the move to a nursing home is right around the corner.
Carol, what was the name of the place that had the good hamburgers and the onion rings. Sometimes I think about the burgers and rings there and I salivate. The best food around are some little places like that. My dad used to love to come to LC and eat. He said it was his favorite place that I have lived. He would always take my grandmother home some boudin. She had never lived there, but she sure loved boudin.
Chloe, I finally got the Nook up and running. It is neat. I ordered the book, The Immortal Life of Harriet Lacks.
Coreen, I think you mentioned this book once - or was it someone else? It is such an interesting story (and true as well).
I have lots to learn about the Nook. I think I am going to like it at all.
correction - I like it already.
Carol, Idol is going ok. I think they are all doing well. I just don't care as much now. If anyone "blows me away" I will let you know.
Did anyone see Modern Family. It was one of the best ones ever. I loved it when the sign at the school-kids show was finally put up and said "We love the F word" It was supposed to read "We love the world" and the signs that were put on the family van were all screwed up to mean something other than what was intended. The writers for the show are great.
Ok, Jacob blew me away. He sang "Bridge over ....Water" It was amazing. The judges think so too. He has a phenomenal voice.
If he gets voted off this week, there is something wrong with the voting.
Ok Carol, It is James doing the heavy metal . I don't like this either.
I am off to bed. Good night.
Lets give it one more day Jan. You've earned it. Happy Birthday Jan!
I forgot..you even have the weekend. Now..I want you to relax and savor that massage. You are having a little issue with that massage. Not sure what it related to but there is an issue there.
Maybe you get so much touch that you don't need any. I have to run into someone to get some.
Oh Chloe..I read on Huff Post that Liz may get that nomination for the consumer agency afterall. I certainly hope so.
Hey Obama..you could gain points with me and I'm sure others if you appoint her and do it on one of those vacation appointments. Maybe Chloe..they are keeping a low profile and are going to spring a surprise.
You know Chloe..I just can't tell if Obama is doing the best he can in light of the fact that these presidents aren't really in charge of anything. That is a fact folkes.
I'm sitting here thinking that one of SF's problems with all his craving those sweets is because of the diabetes. His fasting BS was only 129 but after he starts into all those sodas and cookies and candy I just bet it's really up there. The higher the BS goes..the more one craves sugar..the less the pancreas produces insulin..the higher the BS goes. It's a vicious cycle. The brain doesn't function well with high BS.
That could explain why he's found all nutty toward the end of the day. It would explain his wanting to sleep all the time. It could explain a lot.
I don't know if SF had any diabetes in his family history but extreme age..and obesity..lack of activity..and all that sweet junk food can do it.
I'm just wondering how long he might have had abnormal BS in his lab?? I have seen that it is not uncommon for the health care system to ignore BS abnormalities..especially in the elderly. It used to be much worse.
Sunday when I went to see SF..he had 8 empty soda cans on his night stand.
If he starts to get a lot better while he's at this place..where he won't have access to all that soda and junk food..I'll know.
If those idiots in Washington think they can balance our budget without doing something to increase revenue..they are totally delusional.
It is ridiculous that there are all these record profits in this time of economic crisis and they aren't asked to contribute one red cent.
Just listen to these greedy Republicans. I'm waiting for lightening to strick some of these people. If the rest of us will put up with it..then it's up to God to do something.
Not that many people are making a killing in this economy. They don't have the power here. The rest of us do. I just wonder why the voters can't make a change here. I can't understand why anyone would support these greedy bastards. Does not compute. DOES NOT COMPUTE!
"There's always a little silver lining in every cloud, right? "
You got that right.
Sometimes you really have to work hard finding it though!
I am so glad that SF is getting the attention and help that he needs. I am also very happy that you are feeling more comfortable in what's going on. You've made the right decisions, and just need to continue playing it by ear.
When you said that the burger wasn't as good as you remembered it, it got me thinking how often that has happened to me. I'm always raving about how much better the food was in Ca., but I know if we were to go back there, it wouldn't be the same.
We find lots of good restaurants here now -- it's changed so much since people from so many other states have moved here. Supply and demand. You hear very few southern accents here any more.
"Carol, I had one of the best days I have had this year."
That is so great, Jan. See, maybe birthdays aren't such a bad thing after all. Now your weekend getaway -- I tell you, these extended birthdays are great when the extras keep pouring in. Enjoy it while you can!
And Jan, I'm so glad that you think you are going to enjoy you're Nook. Please let me know what you think of the book you downloaded, once you get started. I'm always looking for new things to read.
"I just can't tell if Obama is doing the best he can in light of the fact that these presidents aren't really in charge of anything. That is a fact folkes"
I know you're right about big business (money) being in charge, Carol. But I still think we needed a stronger leader than we got. I truly believe that he was chosen because he's malleable.
You know, he always said he was a compromiser during the campaign. He said Reagan was a better pres than Bill Clinton. He said many, many things that make what he is now unsurprising.
As I used to say constantly during the primary, '... the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior'.
(remember all those 'present' votes - well he's still 'present')
Chloe, my DIL helped me with my Nook last night. She has an I-pad and she showed me several things about the nook. I have downloaded a free book. I think I will buy a Jane Austin book. they are either free or really cheap.
Chloe, I really like the book about Harriet Lucks. It is a non -fiction and an amazing story.
My DIL orders books from any company on her I-pad.
Carol, I have read a lot about older people and diabetes. Many of these people are not obese or even overweight.
Chloe and Carol, I do keep up with the info you post on here about issues in this country. I don't comment because I am not well informed on the issues. I just wish we could elect Bill Clinton again.
Chloe, what kinds of books do you like?
Carol, I think you would like the Harriet Lucks book. It is non-fiction but written like a novel.
I started another t-shirt quilt yesterday, for my grandson who is graduating from college next Dec. He is the one in the pic with his mom (my DIL).
"remember all those 'present' votes - well he's still 'present"
Well Chloe, I keep hoping the guy has an ace up his sleeve.
Jan, tell me the truth, did you go sneak a peek at the Idol? I just went and checked out each performance online. My choice is for Paul to go tonight. Ain't expecting the teeny boppers to agree.
Casey and Haley did a very nice duet. I always liked Haley and I think she has proved she's got it.
Are Casey and Haley an item?
Jan, I feel it is my responsibility to give you a few political highlights to save you the torture of having to dig thru all the poop. I only skim it now a days.
Oh, Simon and Garfish, er I mean Garfunkel.
I always loved Simon and Garfunkel.
Are the teeny boppers going to knock out another girl tonight??
I think most of these kids have a music career no matter what the teeny boppers do.
Well, I'll be danged.
Paul's a great Rod Stewart.
I really do love this group of youngsters.
I just googled it and it seems that a short while back Casey and Haley were rumored to be an item. Tonight he said.."I love you" when he was saved and she was left at risk. I really think that all of them pretty much love each other. They seem to be a pretty tight group.
Coreen, girl, your boys better get on the stick! Last chance.
You called...they answered....
Georgie, Alex, Mark, & Swisher & who keeps them
in it...Mo....
And as has become tradition, when the Yankees come from behind & win at home AJ comes out with a cream pie in the face of the guy who
wins the day....Tonight it was Swisher...first
of the season...& the fans were waiting & cheering for it to happen....
All in all it was a good win tonight...
You watched all the AI singers...& well who got tossed...
Paul got the big boot tonight. I think it was overdue but who am I to pick um?
Your boys kept you on the edge of your seat tonight..huh? Whew!
Paul got kicked off tonight. Haley was in the bottom 3 and I was rootin for her to stay. She has gotten better I think
I have been wondering who Paul reminded me of - it is Rod Stewart Carol.
Jan..when do you leave for Santa Fe and how far is it? It looks pretty close on the map.
What flavor cream pie Coreen? Sounds good. I could go for chocolate..coconut..lemon.....
They make it exciting & fun....as long as they win...meantime I am about to finish the 1st "girl who" book...
As for the political scene...just don't care
at all...whatever is going to happen will, w/o
any assistance from me...or from any of us as a matter of fact...that is the reality...
None of the pols give a rat's rear about any of
us..it shows repeatedly & I refuse to get upset
about any of it...Life goes on regardless...
Jan popped in...Have a wonderful getaway weekend in Santa Fe....It seems that your John
is a real GEM...so happy for you...
The cream pie is white, not sure if it is really cream or shaving cream, but AJ started
it the 1st year he was here, at first there were grumbles that it was not 'yankee' like, but it has now become expected....except by
a few die-hard traditionalists...if it adds to the fun of a come from behind win...& it seems
that the guys enjoy it...go for it...
I do like chocolate and coconut cream pie, but
my fav is key lime pie with whipped cream topping...
By the way, Carol, you could not resist watching AI, could you...you are hooked....
Only problem is Coreen that they are banking on the fact that many of us feel that we can't do anything about what they are doing to us. For me..I'll keep whinning about it.
Coreen..I find most of the kids on AI this season very appealing. I've never been into the show before and I did try. I might not like it again next season.
And I like the judges this season. Never liked Simon.
I agree Coreen..John does seem to be a gem.
Just so you don't get sick over the state of the world...as I've said, you can only influence your own immediate surroundings...family, friends...the big picture will resolve itself...sometimes you
may get some good from it, other times not so good, as I know you & lots of others have experienced since the world almost came to an
end in 2008...but all things do have a way of
resolving...you are strong, even if you don't feel like it at times...you are a true survivor...I have no doubt...& will prevail
in spite of the disasters you see around you...
Time to get going...see you....
As for AI, if you enjoy it....then by all means, you should keep watching...even if you don't like some of the choices that are made...it's all part of the game...
Coreen..What you talking about..I can't even influence my own immediate surroundings.
But I've noticed that the universe has been working in some mysterious ways. Things that have needed to happen..have happened. No influence from me. I'm praying that the universe will work a little more on the bigger picture. Could happen.
Santa Fe is about 54 miles depending on where you live in ABQ. It is a nice little drive.
I love a really good chocolate pie. While living in Argentina, I had a friend who made the best chocolate pie - from scratch = with real whipped cream on top. It was to die for. I like Apple pie with blue bell vanilla ice cream. pie warmed - yum!
I am so glad you guys keep up with news and politics. I do "listen" to what you talk about on here.
Coreen, you finished the "girl who..." book fast. Did you like it?
I too like the judges on Idol this season. Did you all see that Jennifer Lopez was People's pick for most beautiful woman of the world. I agree. She even is beautiful when her hair is slicked all the way back.
John's a good guy. He did treat me very well yesterday. By the end of the day I was ready for him to "get back to normal. " He, like the rest of us, is not perfect. But, I have learned to live with his faults as he has learned to live with mine. As they say in the Hokey Pokey, "thats what its all about.""
Good nite all.
Hey Jan..we didn't say a diamond..we said gem but even diamonds have flaws girl. And actually..he's better than the guy I have.
I do agree that Jennifer is very pretty. And so very nice to boot. And very sensitive.
What the Republicans want to do to Medicare is to pretty much destroy it and those who would depend on it for their healthcare and they had the gall to say the Dems wanted death panels which was just a way to pay provides to discuss end of life options. Huh.
What I don't understand about the Dems is that they don't shout some of this BS from the roof tops. They let the Republican make up stuff and shout it but when the Repubs do really dumb stuff..the dems don't say a word.
That's what never makes sense to me. That kinda makes me think they really aren't against some of this awful stuff either. They are too afraid to do anything. The money people might get mad and you don't want to piss off the money people.
There is only one answer to this mess. It is to change the way campaigns are financed. We much get this thru our thick heads. This viscious cycle of corruption involves just a fraction of people..people. The rest of us do outnumber them..people. We need to get that word out..people. Spread it around. We don't have to take it.
There is a forum in social media now that can be used to spread the word people. Some of those people overseas realized that and used it even though we invented that forum. Of course we invented it to find a date and play silly farm games. Kinda funny huh? They used it to start a revolution.
And if you keep telling people that we can't influence our larger enviroment that can be very dangerous because actually as a group..we can.
But also let me tell you..these programs like Medicare are full of abuse and corruption. Just looking at my experience with my SF and some of the experiences with my friend's mom for the last few years makes that clear. It's a racket.
Oh..that could be changed too if we all got together to realize they are spending OUR MONEY. We need to look at these government programs like they are spending our money not someone else's money. Think of it coming out of our pockets. We need to scrutinize everything even when we or our loved ones are receiving the benefits.
Since SF went into the AL facility..those people have found ways to use a lot of Medicare money. They keep pushing this and that. And some of these programs are a total waste. They are all in it together.
Multiply my experience by millions and baby..we could save mega billions. I promise that. But then we would piss off some in the private section who are doing the screwing of the system. I've noticed that many of them are Republicans. Interesting.
And the defense budget..how many times did we hear where they lost billions and billions of dollars in Iraq and Afghanastan? They just couldn't find it..didn't know where it went! Can't believe that. It went somewhere.. in someone's pocket.
I'm on the run this morning -- but Jan, I hope you and John have a wonderful weekend (and that you enjoy your massage - who knows, you might want to get one both days).
Please take pics of your trip and let us know how it goes.
Happy Friday to everyone!
We are in Santa Fe in the LaFonda Hotel. It is on the Plaza and quite old. It has lots of little shops and several restaurants. They just sent up a bottle of champagne. John told them it was my b'day when he made the reservation. Wish you all were here to drink a toast with us.
So here we are in a lovely room in a lovely city sitting in the hotel room on our computers. I am dragging John out of here for a walk.
Chloe, camera is in tow. pics later.
If you google La Fonda Santa Fe, you will see some pictures of the hotel.
Catch ya later.
OK Jan, we're here. I just looked it up and it's a very nice place. Raise you glass for a toast to the birthday girl.
I just got home from getting my Mexican fix. I had to bring most of it home since I, again, filled up on chips and salsa.
I heard today that Shirley McClaine lives in Santa Fe. If you see her, tell her hi from me. I think she's cool.
And when do we get our massage. My back needs a little work.
And I think I'll take the Wind and Mountain Spa treatment:
"Wind and Mountain
Just like its name, this wonderful treatment creates a feeling of freshness and clarity. A full-body Salt Glow is applied and then followed by a Therapeutic Massage and soothing Santa Fe Facial."
Let me know how good I feel when it's over.
I think I'll take a swim in the heated pool before I go for my spa treatment.
And tonight Paul gets to be the commercial warmer on Leno.
"So here we are in a lovely room in a lovely city sitting in the hotel room on our computers. I am dragging John out of here for a walk. "
LOL Jan.
La Fonda Santa Fe sounds wonderful (have you been there before?).
We were there toasting you with that glass champagne in spirit, Jan. Am so glad to hear that you're having a good time, and that you have John who makes you feel as special as you are.
... ooooh, I just looked it up.
Is this the right one?: La Fonda On the Plaza
Really beautiful!!
Carol, Hope you enjoy that swim in your pool today. Is your house vacant yet?
Got to get a few things done, before I check back in.
Hi Carol,
Our massage is at 5 this afternoon. I just got the plain Jane massage. The hot tub is lovely. I stuck my foot in the heated pool but was kinda cool. May try it sometime today. We found a cute little restaurant across from the Plaza last night. John had chicken enchaladas and I had a salad with shrimp, mixed greens, mangoes, avacados and pecans. It was one of the best salads I have had. John's enchaladas were good too. He gave me a bite. We walked there.
I have not been to SF at night before. There were musicians on several corners of the plaza, playing a guitar or other instrument. One woman had her dog and a suitcase in front of her, where people were putting money. There was one restaurant on the plaza with an outdoor upstairs porch where a band was playing. Lots of people walking on the plaza. John said reminded him of New Orleans. Not as crowded though and it is illegal here to walk around with alcohol. We were a little weary last night so came on to our room. Tonight we will stay out longer and soak up the ambiance. Wish all of you were here.
This would be a good place to have a get-together of all of us. You all would like it.
Yes, Chloe - you got the La Fonda. It is very special. It is very New Mexican. Lots of paintings on walls by local artists. it is one of oldest hotels/motels in SF. The rooms still have the old flavor but updated. Our bathroom looks like it is right out of 1950's. The furniture in the room is hand painted but has all conveniences and a nice flat screen tv on the wall. The bedding is new style - no yucky bedspreads, but is a comforter with duvet - all white and new. The best thing is free wifi with easy access.
In the evenings there is a man dressed in New Mexican cowboy garb who tells about the history of Santa Fe. We will listen to his story tonight.
I have a funny story to tell you.
Last night when we were coming back up to our room on the 4th floor there was an older couple waiting for the elevator too. The woman was using a walker and the man a cane. While waiting for the elev they told us they came to this hotel for their honeymoon 58 years ago. They are on the 2nd floor. We all got on elev - them first - of course. John punched the number in. We were all talking - its an old elev so no one was really watching where it stopped. The other couple got off first. Then elev started up again.
The next stop was the ground floor. John said, I know I punched both 2nd and 4th. We both thought at that time that he had only punched 2nd. So he punched 4th. When we got to 4, the older couple were standing there. The man said, "we are on 2nd." We were confused for a minute, then realized that the elev had not stopped on 2nd - but had only stopped on 4. There are no signs that light up in the elevator to let you know where you are when the elev stops. So we punched 2nd and they got off on 2nd and because of our confusion, we wound up going back down to 1st because we had forgot to punch 4th. Finally we got to our room on 4th and I could not stop laughing.
I hope all of you are having a wonderful Saturday.
Oh no Chloe, I haven't opened my pool yet. The water is still to cool and the Oak tree is not thru with it's raining down stuff.
I was just having a fantasy visit with Jan and John last night. I was swimming in the heated pool before my fantasy massage.
That was a cute story Jan. They ought to put a bar in that elevator. Might do some business in there with all the riding up and down.
Ha! I knew you were joking about the massage, but thought you really were going to take a swim.
Yep, Jan's out there living the good life. We'll just have to fantasize about being there with them.
Jan, That elevator would have driven me batty. The older couple must have been awfully confused too.
Keep us posted on how things are going. This may be the only vacation Carol or I get for a long time!
Chloe, we used to go to Europe too before our foreign traveler split the sheets.
Yes Jan, we need lots of details. You have a fairly good start going. Love the elevator story and the menu. Of course you don't have to take value relaxation time to do it. Just remember all the details or keep a pen and paper handy.
My secretary/security guard at work/house cleaner/painter is over painting and cleaning on my house.
I just saw Justin Bieber whinning about the poparotsy chasing him thru the Holy Land. Oh well, that's the price stars pay for their fame. They may have talents but so do the rest of us and we don't make the huge bucks they make.
One of the hazzards of being a star and making those big bucks is that people want to know everything you do and watch it too. If no one cared, he just be one of the rest of us.
We have not gone swimming, the water is just a little cool for me.
I agree about celebrities Carol. It goes with the territory.
We walked around town today and took lots of pics. We had lunch at a little tamale stand in the Plaza. There was a big whooti woo going on. A loudspeaker and when we got out to the Plaza they were playing The Star Spangled Banner and someone was singing it. We bought fajitas and sat on a bench and began to listen to the person on the loudspeaker. Guess what! It was a Santa Fe Tea Party group. John started booing. I told him to "hush" I too don't like the Tea Party but I didn't want any trouble here. They had signs saying "no free day care" so I was ready to boo. But I restrained myself. There were several homeless men sitting around in the Plaza too. Wonder what they thought of the Tea Party.
I had a massage and it was very relaxing. I think I am allergic to the oil she used. My face started itching and it was very red when finished. I took a shower and washed off all the oil and put on some lotion I use that is hypoallergenic and took an antihistamine. I am fine now. I faintly remember that happening the last time I had a massage. Not going to say anything to John. He is so proud of himself for getting me a massage.
Carol, did your roommate move out of your house?
I will post some pictures of SF after dinner. John is hungry. I am taking him out tonight. We are talking about going to the same place. Not too adventurous, are we? I want that salad again.
You go John! Oh wait, do they pack pistols in those parts?? If they do, better get one and then you can boo. I can't stand the tea party. A better name would be the poop party cuz they are full of s---.
Next massage you need to bring some hypoallergenic lotion. And we need to analyze this problem you have with massages. There's something there girl. You got an issue. Chloe, need your help here girl. We need to do some psychoanalysis. We'll work on that when you get home. I have some ideas.
I've heard that Sante Fe was artsy fartsy. If so then I wouldn't think the Tea party would be too popular there. Those types are more liberal. And Shirley McClaine lives there.
See any aliens, the ET kind? I think she does..often. Maybe you can look her up and she can introduce you to some. But you have to be open to the experience. I don't think I am. I'd run.
Now, I can handle orbs and in a way they are somewhat alien but they don't have spaceships and don't probe people. I like massages but not probes. That's where I draw the line.
And can't wait to see the pics!
You must be coming up on the United States star. The one in the center of our map. No Sante Fe star is flashing. Maybe some WiFi comes up there.
