The Sensational, Fantastic Diana Ross

Her concert was absolutely wonderful, she sang great, for an hour and a half, changed gowns five times...

Those are great pics Coreen. When was that concert?

Carol said...

I love her!

Coreen said...

A week ago Friday in Stamford...

We were in the 3rd balcony row, so I was able
to get some pretty good pics of her..though
you were not supposed to have a camera, everyone was snapping away...

jan said...

What a great singer and entertainer.

Carol said...

Those are great pics. Professional.

Coreen said...

She is my absolute favorite ever...She lives
in Greenwich & her daughter Rhonda was in the
front balcony row just about 8 seats from ours...

She sang many of her songs...including my fav
ain't no mountain high enough...

Carol said...

Jan, not much really happening here yet, just warnings for later and some distant thunder but Maggie hears it. She can get under the covers with me tonight but tomorrow, when I'm not home, she can use her tent. I will get a pic of it later. It's cute and just pops up.

jan said...

one of my favorite songs too.

Coreen said...

Back to the DWTS...

Afraid this singer is not of any interest to me...guess I'm too old....

jan said...

Fabulous pictures

Coreen said...

Am I correct that the tent for maggie will be in the house...

and I would love to see her in it...

you are getting rain tonight, we are supposed to get a noreaster thursday into friday, with the possibility that it could be cold enough for snow!!!, not just rain...

Carol said...

Yes Coreen, the tent is for inside. It's really a portable soft kennel.

Carol said...

Your weather sounds worse than anything we'll be having. We need some rain here. It's been dry.

Carol said...

I don't care for that white dress either Jan.

Coreen said...

Oh and this weather thing...Thursday is Yankees opening day & it will likely be a cold rain/drizzle at the Stadium...

jan said...

The highest temp we have had in OK the past 4 days has been 50 and it has been windy and very humid. I brought one sweater and have worn it all 4 days. I can't John out of his sweats. He is really looking pretty "grungy" but heck at our age, who cares? I am so ready for NM sunshine.

Carol said...

Well they play in the rain?

jan said...

Yes, that is one ugly dress.

Carol said...

I agree Jan.

Coreen said...

Do you think that when the celeb is voted off the show, their dance partner gets paid a full salary...

Carol said...

Grungy sweater is better than no sweater.

Coreen said...

So all the bad weather you guys are getting will wind up here by the end of the week...I have had enough of winter...

Carol said...

I bet you have!

Coreen said...

They will play if it is only a light rain...I remember several years ago they opened & it snowed...one of my friends was there & he said
it was really cold & unpleasant...

Coreen said...

Hey Wendy lives to dance another day...

jan said...

John does not want Sugar Ray to leave

jan said...

Ok, I have a happy hubby.

Coreen said...

I like Sugar Ray as well, I remember when he
was boxing...though I do not like boxing he was
a great champion...

jan said...

Carol, John is sick to his stomach. Maybe I had a little virus last night and he has it tonight. He said it is not too bad but he is uncomfortable.

Carol said...

I just found out. I paused the show earlier and was behind.

jan said...

I cannot understand why any person would want to get beat up - but what do I know. John loves boxing. Sugar Ray is a good guy.

Carol said...

Maybe so Jan.

Coreen said...

Gee Jan, did he just get sick now...hope it passes quickly...Are you heading home tomorrow...

Carol said...

Well, it's off to my ironing. Can't wait. Probably the only human left that still irons.

Carol said...

Lappy 2 out. Will sign in to Lappy 1, bedroom, handicapped, Lappy.

jan said...

Yes, we just got back from eating and he started feeling nauseated. He took one of the zantacs. He says he is feeling a little better.

We are heading home tomorrow - about a 7 hr drive.

Coreen said...

No Carol, you are not the only one...but there
are not many of us who actually iron clothes...

but I do not like 'knit' items...I'm a cotton,
wool in winter person...

See you guys...Jan, hope you two don't remain
ill for the rest of your trip...

jan said...

Carol, I still iron. I actually like to iron. Must be a leftover from childhood. My mother worked all week. I did the family ironing.

jan said...

So glad you are back Coreen. Hope your weather improves and you get some sunshine. Good luck to your Yankees!

jan said...

Guess I will sign out too.

jan said...

Good night Chloe. Look forward to hearing from you.

Carol said...

Ironing done. I tried to watch some news but I can't see that poor lady in Libya.. who was raped again. It's too much to watch. The news is just too stressful to watch but I don't want to stick my head in the sand.

Carol said...

Well..we just had a nice little thunder bumper move thru. One minute it's not there..the next it is. Maggie was laying next to me shaking so hard I thought my bed was a vibrator.

Carol said...

Went to bed with a thunder bumper and woke up to one. It's been a while since we have had one so we forgot how to deal with them. Being in a tree house makes these little things a little more worrisome..just a little harder to ignore.

Carol said...

Well..that one has passed. A ship out in the area reported a straight line wind of 95 mph and hail of over an inch. Glad I didn't get that..might have knocked me outta bed.

Carol said...

That same ship reported the hail to be 1.75 inches. That's a hell of a hail.

Great pictures, Coreen.

Diana Ross looks as beautiful as ever -- it must have been a wonderful concert. It was so nice to tune in, and find more new pics.

Love it when you guys share your experiences here.

Anonymous said...

Jan, sure sounds like John got some bad food. Did you two eat the same thing.

Everyone is well here, finally. Actually, with Emma getting on her medication so quickly, it was over in 72 hours, and she was back in school, feeling great, on Monday.

Jan, hope we see and hear more about your trip.

Anonymous said...

Carol, We didn't get a storm here - only a very light rain last night that I could hardly hear until I stepped out on the porch.

It was cooler than I like it today, but the sun came out about an hour ago, and our bluer than blue sky is back temporarily. It amazes me how much better (and warmer) I feel when we get a little sunshine. I can only take the overcast for so long (although I do love rain).

Anonymous said...

.. looking out the windows, with this late day sunshine, everything looks so crisp and beautiful. Things are blooming quite nicely, lots of trees almost fully bloomed and others on their way. It's kinda a late Spring this year, but things are greener every day. Spring will always be my favorite season -- always so full of promise.

Anonymous said...

And Jan, I may have missed the comment -- were you sick too?

If so, hope you fine now. Please let us know when you're home to beautiful New Mexico.

Carol said...

So when does Jan land? She'll be back to her old time zone. Rats. I did enjoy the heck outta live blogging with you guys. We could have all been sitting on the same couch together.

Coreen, you're in a different time zone so how can you live blog with me?

Carol said...

We're back to singing tonight. Better tune up..me me me me me.

Carol said...

Chloe, it was beautiful here today after the overcast burned off. We only ended up with a little over a 1/2 inch of rain. Better than nada.

Carol said...

Glad that little Em is up and running. I guess you have on your jogging shoes. Oh, I remember, be careful in those flip flops.

Carol said...

Idol's on.

I like Scottie. Those producers that are helping the singers suggested that he not do the grandma verse in the song he selected tonight. He said, no, his grandma was going to be the the audience and he wanted to pay tribute to her. He stuck to his principles.

The boy has a country career even if he doesn't go all the way with Idol. He's already there!

Carol said...

Naima is starting to grow on me. She took a big chance also tonight. I liked her reggae version of that Elton John song, I'm Still Standing. The judges didn't. I don't think they are always right! Her version turned out better than I thought it would.

Carol said...

Oh, tonight is an Elton John night.

Carol said...

Paul is so cute even though I'm not as taken with him as everyone else seems to be. He changed up Rocket Man so much that I'm not sure if he pitchiness was planned or an accident.

Carol said...

Hey, do you peeps in Paraquay want to live blog with me? hablo ingles?

Carol said...

Pia. What can I say? Perfecta.

Carol said...

Actually too perfecta. Starting to bore me a little.

Carol said...

Don't know why Stephano was in the bottom last week. He's cute and sings so sweetly.

Coreen said...

Carol, sorry you don't have an AI buddy, but I
never got into that show...

As to why we can talk at the same time, I think
your TV shows may go on live an hour earlier than here...AI started at 8pm here & I think
yours starts at 7pm if I remember right...Howie Mandel is in the audience, I always liked him...

Coreen said...

I think the delayed showtimes usually apply to the western time zones...

Carol said...

Coreen, this is the first year that I've been into Idol.

Carol said...

I like Lauren's hair tonight.

Coreen said...

Chloe, when you get back, glad to know that little em is ok...and always pleased to share
the little events I may expereince with all here...

Weather, they are still calling for a storm
maybe 1 to 3" wet snow...thursday into Friday...we'll see if they are right....

Carol said...

She took on Elton's greatest hit and did a pretty good job.

Carol said...

Coreen, I hope your weather turns out to be less than predicted like ours did.

Coreen said...

And Carol, I think Jan mentioned that she felt
ill first than John got a bug...& also think
Jan said they were starting back towards home
today...

Coreen said...

Elton's greatest hit...which one...he had quite a few...I'll try to watch a bit with you
now...

Carol said...

I hope both Jan and John are better. Tough to be on the road with a GI disorder. Yuk. I had a little problem my first day in Houston but I think mine was stress.

Carol said...

There's coulda been stress also. If taxes, intense travel and a short visit with relatives doesn't get ya, nothing will.

Carol said...

Lauren did Candles in the Wind, Coreen. An interesting version also.

Carol said...

I don't care for that, finger in the electric socket, hairdo.

Coreen said...

Wasn't that the one for Marilyn Monroe and/or Princess Diana...

Again I must give all these singers great credit for reaching for the chance to 'make it'...Not sure the guy's name but he's singing
saturday nights alright...but have to say it
is too loud, too rock for me...

Carol said...

James always wows the crowd but he's not my fav but he is good. He's the kid with Tourettes, I think.

Carol said...

I'll have to get you up to speed on the cast of characters Coreen.

Coreen said...

Is ryan seacrest really a little guy?...never
noticed that

And I think he was/is dating Derek Hough's dancer sister, the pretty blonde who won dwts
but her name escapes me...may be julianne? hough..

Forgot to mention last night when Jan mentioned Derek, that I too miss
Derek in dwts, but he is so far ahead of the other dancers in choreography/style...that I guess they have to give others a fighting chance...

Carol said...

I read that Derek is doing a movie. I think it about dancing. Go figure.

Carol said...

I like this next singer. Little Thia. She's very young.

Carol said...

they criticize her for being too safe.

Carol said...

Sweet voice.

Carol said...

I like her hair tonight also.

Carol said...

There's that safe word again.

Carol said...

Randy likes that word.

Carol said...

What ya think Coreen?

Coreen said...

Nicely sung...

Who's the favs, I gather tonight they are doing all elton songs...

how many are competing...

Carol said...

It is an Elton John night. I think there are 11 left. Last week the one voted off, Casey, was saved by the judges so this week two have to go. Casey hasn't performed yet. The judges always like him but evidently American didn't.

Carol said...

He's next. I still think he needs a makeover. Get rid of the Paul Bunyon look.

Carol said...

He was in the hospital a couple of times during the competition. I think an ulcer.

Carol said...

He still didn't float my boat. Sorry.

Carol said...

Not saying that he's not good.

Coreen said...

Beside the hair/beard, he seems to have a range
in his singing, that the couple I saw don't seem to have...

Carol said...

The next dude kinda has that drag queen quality. I like him. I think the judges carried him over in the beginning.

Carol said...

We still have Ashthon and Haley. They are usually on the bottom in the scores.

Carol said...

Not Jacob's best, IMO

Coreen said...

Not really liking that version of Sorry...

Carol said...

But still good.

Coreen said...

I have no clue what is it Randy? was just saying about Jacob...I guess I just don't get it...

Carol said...

I'm glad that voting for Idol is just too much trouble because I wouldn't want to pick two to bounce off tonight.

Carol said...

These judges are really kind hearted. The worst they say is, that didn't blow me away.

Carol said...

Randy is probably the hardest on them. Jen just cries alot.

Coreen said...

Oh I like benny & the jets...but will be tough for someone to match it....

Carol said...

Haley is usually on the bottom. She's done some numbers that I really liked even if no one else did.

Coreen said...

and that should be benny & the Jetssssss....

Coreen said...

oh no...no way...that is just awful...

Carol said...

Coreen, they do have to change up the songs to make them their own.

Carol said...

Maybe it's her accent.

Coreen said...

I think I know why I can not get into AI...

For me, it is really hard to listen to singers
mimic the hit songs of others...& fairly assess the kids voices....

It was not amazing in my eyes....

Carol said...

I forgot that Ashthon was bumped off a while back.

Coreen said...

The recaps...Pia....she has the voice....

Carol said...

It is hard to come in in the middle of the season. It's like trying to jump into the middle of a soap opera. It's better when you know the characters from the beginning. I think that is why I could never get into it before.

Carol said...

Yes Pia is always on top.

Carol said...

She's got that Celine Dion like voice.

Coreen said...

Well, I'm going to watch the finale of top chef...me, who does not cook, does not really
enjoy food, likes to see this show...

See ya...

Carol said...

I wish we could hear from Ivy. AI was always her gig. And she was a pro at it.

Coreen said...

Oh no Carol, don't say that...I may be the only
woman who detests Celine Dion's voice...

For me, she whines....

Carol said...

You don't enjoy food??? It's what I live for!

Coreen said...

No Carol, I eat to live...Food is no biggie
for me, just a necessity...

Carol said...

I don't eat to live, I live to eat.

Carol said...

It's my passion.

jan said...

We are home. and watching Idol. Pia is my fav female singer. I thought Lauren did a great job though. I don't think either of them will be going home.

I think Scottie didn't do as well tonight. He just does country.

I liked Stephano.

That is all I have seen so far.

Coreen said...

We are sooo opposite Carol...but I do love
pizza....real pizza CT/NY style, none of that California stuff where they put any & everything on it...

And trust me there is no better pizza made
in the US then on the east coast...

Solar, hear me...not even in Chitown....

jan said...

James is singing now. I don't care for rock - but like James. You don't see the Tourette's when he sings. He can really get the audience going.

Coreen said...

Jan, glad you came in...I couldn't be a good
AI buddy for Carol....

Nite all...

jan said...

Carol, what you said earlier about the stress, taxes and spending time with relatives - and heartburn - is right on. I thought it was some chocolate popcorn I ate - but I think it was all of the above.

Carol said...

Jan, you wouldn't want to hear about my GI nightmare in Houston. It was a little funny, after the fact, but too gross for primetime.

jan said...

Carol, I remember you do love to eat. Some days I live to eat and some days I eat to live. The last couple of days I have been eating to live.

jan said...

Carol, When I was living in TX I was dx with IBS - whenever I get stressed I too have a GI nightmare. I don't know exactly what happened to you in Houston, but it couldn't gross me out.

jan said...

Thia is singing now. I like what she is doing better than eanything I have heard her do.

jan said...

Coreen, so sorry you don't like Celine. She moves me. I was so sorry she was not in Vegas when we were there. She is probably the only act I would pay to see.

Carol said...

I'm sure I would like your east coast pizza Coreen. I've never spent any time on the east coast but do have it on my bucket list.

Besides our great Lousiana food, the best food I've eaten in the US was in Chitown. My mother's brother lived up there and he was a food connoisseur. When we would go up to visit, he'd take us to the best restaurants in town.

I went up there for an education conference years back and I found just as many great places on my own. They had great salad bars also. One was about as long as a city block. Had everything you could imagine on a salad bar.

jan said...

However, I think I liked Celine more before she was so popular.

Carol said...

Even three different kinds of pickled herring.

Carol said...

Welcome home Jan. Missed you for those few hours.

Carol said...

You know even the change in water from town to town can get to people.

jan said...

I remember the first time I ate fried shrimp. I was 12 years old and we were visiting family in California. I was a real OK hick. We lived in the rural northeast part of OK and ate only country type foods. When we went out to eat, it was to fried chicken places. Anyway, I fell in love with fried shrimp and it is still one of my favorite foods.

Carol said...

Oh, my mother's brother died of complications of diabetes, one of the hazzards of being in the live to eat group.

jan said...

We had an eventful trip home. We had a tire blowout. Thanks God for Triple AAA. They sent help within 30 minutes and we were really out in the country about 10 miles from the nearest little town. We got towed back to a Ford dealership where we bought a new tire. Back on the road in about an hour. So glad John was driving. He did a great job of keepin us on the road and getting to the shoulder.

jan said...

The kicker is that we had everything on the car, including tires, checked out before we left for this trip.

Carol said...

Jan, I prefer spicy boiled shrimp, dipped in a lemon/butter/Tonys seasoning sauce with the juice running down my arm.

jan said...

ditto my mother Carol - she too lived to eat- and had diabetes and died of a heart attack at 68.

Carol said...

Darn Jan. What awful luck. Your trip kinda had a black cloud over it.

jan said...

You may live to eat Carol - but I remember you did not eat high calorie foods.

jan said...

Lol - Carol - I think you are right about the black cloud.

Carol said...

When it comes to life Jan...if I have to choose between quantity and quality, I'll choose quality. It's the Louisiana way of life.

Carol said...

Jan, I did grow up eating very healthy. Not always so much now. Never liked sweets when I was a kid. I do now.

jan said...

I think Casey did ok, but I sense he has lost his confidence -since he was the lowest in votes last week.

Carol said...

I remember when my sisters and I were young, we'd fight over the spinach mom cooked. She couldn't even get it on the table. Of course mom did saute it in butter, garlic and dash of flour. I've introduced it to some friend who hated veggies, especially green ones, and they liked it also.

jan said...

It is hard to believe you now like sweets. I love sweets but don't eat them much any more. I am always afraid that if I really let go with eating, I will wind up like my mother.

Carol said...

Jan, do you think it is Casey's look that got him in trouble?? I think so.

Carol said...

There's a cool show on birds on PBS.

jan said...

I can't remember if I ate any of your spinach. It sure sounds good. Every so often if we eat at a cafeteria, I get spinach and put some good type of vinegar and LA hot sauce on it - and remember that was how you liked it.

jan said...

It could be his look. I like the way he looks, but I may not be very representative of the audience. When I was teaching classes, I loved talking with the young students about Idol. Most of them watched it. I don't think many of "my" peers watch Idol.

jan said...

Do you use fresh spinach when you saute it?

Carol said...

There was a lot on diabetes at my meeting last week. You know that at least 30% of the population, either now has or is predicted to have diabetes. A serious epidemic. And I really feel that it is more of a problem in some that eat to live. Those of us who live to eat are often more discriminating with what we eat. No Mickey Ds for us.

jan said...

You will have to tell me exactly how you cook spinach.

Carol said...

Mom used frozen spinach. Now I like to use this fresh organic leaf spinach that Walmart sells. I prefer to cut the poison. Problem is that you can cook up the entire container of it and only have a couple of spoonfuls.

jan said...

You are so right about diabetes. It is truly an epidemic here. You seldom see anyone who is not overweight or obese who is over 30 years old here. It is an epidemic among the Native Americans and they make up 10% of our population. Most of the Hispanic women are overweight or obese.

Carol said...

Now I don't need the special sauce for my spinach. I liked the sauce more than the spinach when I was a kid.

This is how you do it...steam your spinach first and drain well. Melt some butter, in it, saute small amount of finely diced garlic. Sprinkle just a little flour in that and stir. Then add your well drained spinach. Saute that for a short time and serve.

jan said...

Sounds gooood! I will try some tomorrow. I am taking the entire week off.

Carol said...

Diabetes is a bigger problem in AA, Hispanics, and Native American Indian populations, Jan. My theory is that those cultures haven't had as many years for their bodies to learn to cope with gluttony and excess.

Carol said...

Up to 50% of Native Americans can have diabetes.

jan said...

So, do you just eat the spinach without the other butter and garlic now?

Carol said...

Have to take the Magster out and move to Lappy 1. Lappy 2 signing off.

jan said...

My mother had diabetes but she was english and german. My dad is where my cherokee blood comes from and he and his family were all thin. Go figure.

Carol said...

Yes Jan. I just eat the spinach now, with a little butter, now.

jan said...

OK, Idol is ending here. I am voting for Pia and John is voting for Casey. We will see the results tomorrow night.
I am off to bed.
Talk tomorrow.

Carol said...

Nite Jan.

For the most part..Type 2 Diabetes is a preventable disease. It is weight gain that pushes one over the border. It is a disease of insulin resistance and that extra weight is what makes the difference. Sometimes is just 10-20 lbs that does it..sometimes it takes 200 extra lbs.

Maintaining a healthy body weight can pretty much prevent the disease except in situations of extreme stress..either physical or psychological..or excess age.

Walking..even every other day..can improve glucose tolerance. It can have a two day influence.

Even early in the disease..weight loss can significantly influence blood sugar control. The first 15 lbs of loss is the most significant.

Problem is that many people have diabetes for years before it is officially diagnosed. It is often also undertreated by the healthcare prof. It is such a complicated disease that many healthcare prof don't really understand it and certainly don't have the time to help their patients to understand it.

Carol said...

Type 1 Diabetes is an entirely different animal. Not as common. It is an autoimmune disease. For some reason the body had distroyed the cells that produce insulin. Obesity is usually not involved. They are usually normal weight to thin. They require insulin from the get go.

Carol said...

It is usually acquired at a young age but occasionally later in life.

Type 2 used to be called maturity onset diabetes but now is not that rare in kids because of the obestiy epidemic.

Carol said...

When I had my diabetes ed center..I did health histories on all my clients. When I did a diet history..I found that most of my clients with diabetes had diets that consisted of mostly meat and potatoes or meat and other starches. They didn't like veggies. That was the problem! It's difficult to be healthy without those veggies folkes.

I also attended a session on nutritional supplements and unfortunately that was the session I had to leave early to get home to pick up my Maggie girl.

The dietition was discussing the antioxidant supplements and some of the research on them. They just don't replace the real thing.

One study they used antioxidants in smokers to see if it would reduce the incidence of lung cancer. Ya know they are suppose to reduce tissue damage from environmental insults. The people who took the antioxidants and smoked had a higher incidence of cancer.. not lower.

Two of my theories are..you can't replace the real thing with supplements and/or you can't always trust that those supplement contain what they are said to contain. I lean toward believing the former a little more than the latter but I believe both to be true.

Carol said...

You have just earned 1 CEU from this session. Good night folkes.

Carol said...

Coreen..you may have to put Ms Ross up for a second blog post. Our live blogging has taken up some space but I did enjoy it. Work was a bitch these last two days and it was nice to come home to some fun. Thanks guys.

Carol said...

Got a little note from Bernie Sanders in my inbox yesterday. He's the (I) Senator from Vermont. I dropped him an email right after he did that all day speech on the Senate floor that day.

The man impresses me and I like to thank those people who really impress me. That's one of my favorite things about the Internet. Since there are very few who impress me anymore..I don't have to send too many emails.

Thought I would share some of what he said:

Exxon Mobil, Bank of America, GE and other giant corporations paid no U.S. taxes despite billions in profits. In fact, they pocketed big IRS refunds. As congressional leaders and the White House haggled over how many billions of dollars to cut spending on programs for working families, Bernie tried to broaden the debate. He compiled a top-10 list of tax dodging corporations. It's a scandal, Bernie told colleagues today. "We have a deficit problem. It has to be addressed, but it cannot be addressed on the backs of the sick, the elderly, the poor, young people, and the most vulnerable in this country. The wealthiest people and the largest corporations in this country have got to contribute."

Hey..I just thought that this may make you feel better as you are preparing your 2010 tax return. Kinda gives me the same feeling I had during my GI nightmare in Houston.

Carol said...

Ya know Vermont must be a pretty good state. They have more than one politician who I like from that state. Howard Dean is another one I like. Just like the Hillary..the media took Howard Dean down. Shame on you media!

There was something on C2C about how the media manipulates us but I fell asleep while listening to it.

Carol said...

Jan and Chloe..can either of you tell me what these guys are saying? Sounds like Greek to me but I'm sure that you are more familiar with the language.

What's that you say?

Carol said...

Last night on one of my comedy news shows..it was mentioned that Haley Barbour..Gov of Miss..was bragging about how Miss had the lowest rate for abortions. It was also pointed out that they also had the highest incidence of infant mortality. Well..at least they got a couple of good months.

jan said...

The video of the twin boys babbling was adorable. Being a twin Carol, you know that twins do develop their own language that they use to communicate with each other. Interestingly I have not read much research on that communication.
