These are pics of Spring. Included is my trusty old Sears Weedwacker, the pots I'm cleaning, my messy work area, the topsy turvy tomato plant I planted, and the trolling motor plugs I changed.
I just got thru bathing the Maggot. I said, oh Maggie, I almost forgot about your bath, let's go. She jumped off the couch and headed out of the room. I thought she probably thought we were going outside. She really doesn't know the word bath because she may have only heard that word a few times and it's been a little while since her last bath.
Well, she must have remembered the word because she was deep under the bed. I had to sucker her out with a doggy cookie. Fortunately, I don't lie to her very often.
Before Christmas I bought this little 3 gal air compressor on sale at Sears, less than 60 bucks. That has been the most useful pieces of equipment I have around here. Just about everything I have around here has at least one tire that loses air. I can't do one chore without airing up a tire. Just love my tire inflator.
All I had before was one of those things you plug into your cigerette lighter. Don't buy one of those, they are worthless!
Very good first day of Spring guys. This evening I was pondering whether those were real shopper men that kept showing up to lend their help or were they shopper men angels sent from above. I'll never know. It's just interesting that every store I went to today had at least one very helpful shopper man. I think it was a miracle.
Lappy 1 seems to be very happy having help from Lappy 2. She has not had her comma seizure since the new kid showed up. And as soon as I wrote that, the commas came flying and worse than usual. Lappy 1 is haunted.
I'm going to bed with C2C. Listening to a program from last night. They had Bart Erhman on talking about New Testiment forgeries. He's a Professor of Religious Studies at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He's written many books, three of which I have read, believe it or not. Gotta quit, those commas are on my ass.
I went to see SF Saturday. Usually he just lays on his bed and doesn't even want to get up. He's still putting on a show. At home he ate and went back to bed so this isn't something new. We were hoping for him to have opportunities to do something and they have lots of those.
Well Saturday he sat up and talked some. More than usual. I'm not pressing my luck with any commas here so when I'm on Lappy 1 you'll see more periods. OK.
He told me that they had ballet that morning but he wasn't interested. Dang. not interested in ballet. a farmer? He also mentioned that he tried to walk to the store and caused a stir. Said he didn't have a toothbrush or toothpaste. He had both and I found some toothpaste hiding in this drawer where it shouldn't have been. I think he hid it. He said he went around the back way. He was trying to be sneaky. Crafty. Pure crafty.
Remember when he tried to take off on foot a while back? He said that they don't care for his leaving. Interesting that they didn't call me about that. Glad though.
I did get him to get up and go sit on some rockers out in the front. That place is sooooo nice. The biggest problem with the visits is that's there nothing to talk about. I have to stay away from any home related issues which is about all I can think of to talk about. I caught him up with the national news. then we rocked and I watched my watch.
Jan, this assisted living place I'd be cool with. when I'm in SF situation. I wouldn't be too cool with a NH. Mary said she'd love it because she would love all the activities they have available.
Carol, I agree about the assisted living and also about how awful the nursing homes can be (at least the one we looked at for my FIL).
They have some very nice 55 and over apartment complexes here, that are somewhat like assisted living, but with more freedom. There's medical help always available, plus transportation to shopping, etc. - as well as group activities and a community area where they eat and play (not sure what all the activities are will just say play).
They're very reasonably priced, and include two meals a day.
I really like this blog and the pics you shared with us. You are amazing, the things you accomplish. I used to do a lot more of the outdoor work, but have gotten to lazy now. I leave the responsibility to hubby, but do crack the whip when things get to far behind. Whatever I was in my previous life, I know it included being bossy (one of my many faults). We even joke about it - I must have been (in that life) a high up of some type, like a ruler or queen or some such ridiculous thing.
Like Jan, I was laughing (and agreeing btw) about your little shopping escapade. You might as well forget getting any help at TSC or WM. I'm glad you were able to find fellow shoppers to help you though. I don't know what it was yesterday, but while we were out and about, I found people to be extra nice, polite and friendly. I sometimes think that happens more when I'm in a particularly good mood too. - but it sure does reassure your faith human nature. Of course, talking with you two does that for me too. It's always so nice to see what you have to say.
As far as getting help in stores, I find that HomeDepot is about the only place that does that - and they are a lot better than they used to be. They're also good (usually) about helping load things or doing it for you (and they have all the same things in gardening as WM and usually aren't much different in price). I used to hate the place, but we have to go there so often (for home improvement and repair stuff) that I'm getting used to it. I've noticed that WM doesn't seem all that cheap anymore, and am going there less and less. I'm spending most of my grocery money at Krogers, and visiting Target and TJ Max more for other things. I still make a quick trip to WM about once a week though for a few things. Actually, if I could, I'd do all my shopping online. Not sure that won't be possible someday.
Jan, I'm sorry to hear that John is feeling bad about his Church buddy. Hoping assisted living will work out well for him. I'm sure they gave it a lot of thought before making the decision.
I know that is not going to ever happen to either of you - you're both so active. Like you say though, aging is rough on us all.
Carol, I couldn't stay long last time I was here, and forgot to mention I understand what you're saying with your comments on ADD. I should have put a disclaimer on the comment I made on it, because I basically know nothing about it, and have never known anyone who has been diagnosed with it. I was just thinking out loud, knowing that my thoughts on it were not very meaningful.
Thanks for the medical advice, and the advice from you too, Jan. I am feeling better, but I was pretty down and out for a while. Emma starts back to morning school today, and seemed happy about going. Just hope she doesn't bring home any little disease gifts for a while.
.. oh, and Carol. What kind of laptop did you get?
I've got my (future) eye on that touch 'slate' with windows 7 on it - the price needs to go down first though. It's like the iIpad, but with windows 7 (which I love, when I'm not mad at it). That way I can open documents for our business, etc. I know Apple last a lot longer, but so few people have them that it wouldn't work if I occasionally needed to used it for our business. Wouldn't be able to open their documents, etc.
I had another little annoying add-on on my computer yesterday, which I had to work hours to rid it of. If you don't keep up with these things, you eventually end up with a computer that won't work. We're constantly being invaded, and (according to Microsoft) one anti-virus can't catch it all. Sad but true. Too many wizards out there. They're too smart, and have way too much time on their hands.
Carol, love your pictures. Like Chloe, I am amazed at all your energy and all the things you did this weekend. I didn't get much accomplished other than talking most of Sat with the people at my agency. We have a problem with one of the people we work with and she has been really nasty to the new nurse and to another person there. So the nurse called me several times and then our director called me and finally on Sun I turned my phone off. They only call me on my cell. It was a blessedly quiet day. Last night I had a young friend over for dinner. She is a 25 year old who used to house sit and Lobie sit when we went on some trips. She is moving back to Chicago to go to nursing school and live with her family.
Chloe, I have one suggestion. You might want to change Emma's clothes when she comes home from school and wash her little hands really well. I suggest this to families with newborns who have little kids who go to school or preschool.
Carol, I had to LOL when I read your comment about Maggie and the bath. They know what we are going to do before we know it. I swear our dogs can read our mind - especially when they are so close to us. I bet you did not have even say anything about bath. She read your thoughts probably by the way you act towards her. You might test that out sometime with Maggie.
Chloe, there would be some of my chores that I wouldn't do if I had someone to pass them off to like you guys do. Some that I do like to do. I wouldn't have taken on the trolling motor plug job if I didn't have to even though except for the scavenger hunt necessary to find the parts, it was one of the easiest jobs.
Jan, some of the shopper man help I asked for and one, I think came because I was probably looking pretty lost and pityful standing behind my truck with my tail gate handle piece in my hand. My days of attracting guys have long been over. My aging has sped up since becoming an NP. That's one of the reasons I wanted you to think long and hard about it.
Maggie and I went to check out doggy camp. It's not really a camp but that's how we will think of it. She will have her own cabin. We like it. I hope Maggie has a good experience. The lady who keeps the dogs seems very nice. She is an RN who graduated from my U. I'll bring Maggie on Wednesday night and pick her up Sunday.
She has a nice yard and place for the dogs. Each has a nice large kennel to stay in and I guess they get to run around outside when she's home. I'm really not crazy about Maggie having to stay outside though. Maggie has never lived outside. The kennels are on a nice breezy covered porch. What about mosquitos? I know Mary's dog gets to stay in her house because her dog has problems. Yeah, he's got lots of problems all right.
Maggie may be a pound puppy but she's treated like the Queen of Sheba. I guess I can't expect the lady to let Maggie sleep in her bed, under her covers.
Then I think...what if it thunders??? I guess I'll bring her a blankie to hide under.
Chloe, I got another Toshiba. My geek likes them best. I also wanted to get one now before they become radioactive. All the stuff that comes out of Japan from now on may be glowing just a little.
Carol, Your nervousness about leaving Maggie someplace new is understandable. She is your baby. It sounds like an ok place and you know the person - that is good.
I am waiting around to hear from a woman who I am trying to help with breastfeeding. She is having a rough time with it. Her breasts are engorged and hurting. I gave her some suggestions and the name of the breastfeeding services at the hospital she gave birth in (just 4 days ago). She has 2 really active and noisy preschoolers too.
Jan, I'll bring her one of her pillows, she has three, and her soft, fake fur covered eggcrate type cushion pad, and a blankie. Too late to try to find a mosquito net for her cabin. She does take heartworm pills but what if a mosquito bites her??? She's not used to bugs, well maybe a cockroach every now and again but only after I go to bed. They sometimes sneak in and party after dark. You can't live her in Louisiana, under the trees and not find an occasional cockroach.
Coreen, it's DWTS time. Who am I going to argue with about who has an unfair advantage due to prior dance experience and who has come a long way baby????
It's also about time for the Yanks to start their season.
I heard a little Racheal M tonight and she was talking about some of the Rs that have thrown their names in the ring to run for president. She mentioned our Buddy Roemer and said he lost a primary for governor to David Duke. She mentioned that several times. Well, she must consider she is talking about Louisiana...we aren't the smartest state in the nation. But we do have some of the best food in the country.
That was the year that we ended up having to choose between Duke, the KKK guy, and Edwards, the self proclaimed crook. Edwards did win that election and he just recenty got out of prison. Yep, we have more than a few cockroaches around these parts.
Carol, Louisiana was always good for interesting politics.
Sorry I did not tell you about DWTS. I was busy later this afternoon with the woman who is breastfeeding. I am not a lactation consultant and spent a lot of time trying to find her one. I finally gave up on that and read some of my books and talked to her on the phone several times. I think she mainly needed a woman/nurse to talk to. I will be making a visit to see her Wed.
I am impressed with this group of "stars". I too thought Kirstie did a great job. I only know Kirstie and Sugar Ray. I liked the football player - he had a lot of charm. I also liked the first girl.
Off to bed. It is 10:10 here and am sleepy. Good nite all.
Guys. who was the dancer guy who always won? He's not there this year. Where did he go? I'd look it up if I could remember his name. (reminder. periods might represent commas). I'm on the comma monster in the early morning and late evening and I'm gonna try to avoid that key. if it is possible.
I had a thought last night about my worry about Maggie getting a mosquito bite. Last year I bought this material doggie kennel just in case we had to evacuate. She used to have a hard kennel but it flew out of the back of my truck on the Interstate after the last hurricane scare we had. I was lucky that it didn't hit anyone. I couldn't go retrieve it because I had just had that second back surgery and couldn't lift anything.
I never took it out of the bag. It's kinda like a doggie tent and it has net for windows. I'll bring that and it can be slipped into the larger cabin she has out there for the dogs. Then no mosquitos. It just came to me last night when I was laying in bed ponder-worrying.
Carol, Make sure you talk to the puppy camp lady about your concerns when you take her - that's 'very' important. Not only for your peace of mind, but she'll know about any little idiosyncrasies Maggie might have (like the fear of thunder and anything else). I made sure I have done that with Emma's teacher, and she either does whatever she can to help and also reassures me. Also, while you're gone, tell her you're going to call once a day to see how Maggie is doing (take her card with you). Make you tell her about any of Maggie's special needs, and the things that are important to you.
Jan, Thank you so much for your advice about what to do to keep Emma from bringing home too many illnesses. I do wash her hands, but have not thought of changing her clothes. I'm going to start doing that now that you mentioned it, and will do a little better job of wiping her down. It's really gotten to be a problem. I felt terrible again last night, but today I think I really am on the mend (finally) and she's doing so well now.
That was so nice of you to help that woman that needed your advice. I think you're right, and sometimes they just need someone to talk to. There were so many times you helped me when I had concerns about Emma, and I appreciated it so much. Now I can also talk to her teacher about my concerns, and she has been very reassuring and helpful. I feel so much less alone, when I need to ask someone a question, and she's a professional I can go to, and she seems to care so much.
Her teachers name is Sarah (that was my grandmothers name - I didn't really know her, but like the name a lot), and she is so loving and sweet - she actually cares. I feel so grateful to have found someone like her for Emma's transition. She always reports so well on their behavior, and also seems to have so much insight into their motivations. She not only understands their needs, but also the meaning behind them.
Like Carol's little Maggie, they all have their own little idiosyncrasies.
Carol, I like Toshiba best too. They've come a long way, and offer the most for your money, while not being too invasive (like HP, for instance).
You almost have to have an extra computer to look up things to fix the one you used daily. When mine got that virus, it was advised to keep it off line until it was fixed, because the virus it had would lead to more invasions by other viruses. So I had to do my research on fixing it on another computer. I searched for answers, and so many kind people have taken the time to explain how to fix specific issues or lead you to someone else that will help. They led me to a free fix from Kaspersky anti-virus that was on their site. I also found a fix a few days ago for another problem I had. They explain it and make it easy enough that even I can do it (sometimes) - I've been lucky lately. If they are too destroyed, I end up tossing them and getting another. It's sometimes just too gone to be worth it. I've been using this one close to a couple of years now, and it's still going strong, I like Windows 7 so much more than any previous versions. It's much simpler and more helpful too.
Carol, The mosquitoes aren't all that bad yet this year. We've been leaving our dogs out a lot more, and they're doing very well. We built them each a type of cabin and play yard too, and didn't start using them until the weather got warmer.
We've had to make a lot of household changes for Emma. Mostly for her safety. Among them are locks that we've had to install that are too high for her to reach, because she likes to open doors and take off wherever. We live up a flight of stairs (like you) and it could be dangerous. She wouldn't go far, but there are so many dangers with these kids, and you've got to predict and prevent them all. That includes keeping them out of cupboards, etc., and having play areas and rooms that are completely safe if you have to walk out of the room momentarily. It's taken a lot of thought and a lot of work, but now it makes life much easier. Plus she's getting older, and therefore much more reasonable every day. Morning school has helped tremendously, and she's learning so much there too.
Like I always say (and wholeheartedly believe): It's the little things that matter.
... make sure that you talk to the camp lady about your mosquito concerns also! The spot-on's they have now that do fleas and ear mites are so great. I'm going to look online to see if any help with mosquito's. I use the Frontline for my dogs, but Advocate for my cats. They both do ear mites, but the Frontline is better to prevent other kinds of mites that cause mange, etc. I haven't had any problems outdoors so far.
My Advocate flea control (which I order from England - it's made by Bayer) prevents heart worms too. It's closest to 'Revolution' that they prescribe here in the states.
Yes, Maggie gets a heart worm chewy. It's the once a month version. It's due when she'll be at doggy camp so I gave it to her yesterday, a little early.
Chloe, so true that making your home child-friendly depending on the age makes life so much easier and everyone happier too. I don't know what it is about preschool that helps children be better socialized too. It does work. In the preschools they have to have routines. I think that makes a difference.
It is nice to have 2 computers for when you are having problems with one or the other. I have my mac book and also have a loaner from work. I use them for different things. If I want to get into the web ct at work I use the loaner. I also use the loaner for documents I write and send. When I want to print something, I use my Macbook. Strangely for one week I could not get my e-mail from work site on my macbook but could from the loaner. Then, one day I could get the e-mail from mac book. I only use macbook for the blog and facebook.
At the end of DWTS last night they said he finals would be next Tues night. It might be a more interesting season as I thing there are several dancers who look like they are in similar category of good or very good dancers - I didn't see anyone who stood out above the rest.
I agree with what you said about the pesticides, Carol. Some dogs and cats are not affected by them at all, but others can be more sensitive. I have no choice, because I have so many outside, and they can pass things to each other. It's the only way I can keep them all healthy.
I realize you have Maggie in most of the time, and also it's good she's not around other animals, because that can cause a lot more problems. I wouldn't consider the Biospot without talking to your vet anyway. I don't have any first hand experience with it, and would never recommend it unless I did. The important thing is that you have her on her heartworm preventative stuff and I know from past use that Advantage is an excellent, safe product (which is by the way by Bayer too - that's why I felt safe going over to the Advocate, which was just the next step from Advantage, and came later). The only reason I needed the Advocate is that I have multiple cats (and dogs), and it does fleas, ear mites and it's a wormer too. When you have more cats and dogs, and when they're outside, they have problems with all the things, and I only have to give them one dose a month for everything. It also prevents heartworms, mange, and other skin mites. One spot on dose does it all. Like Advantage, it kills 98-100% of fleas. A remarkable product.
I think with Maggie's life style, what you're giving her is perfect.
Jan, Thanks for the reassurance about pre-school. Everything you said is so true. She's doing so well, and seems to be learning so quickly. It's turned out to be a good decision for both her and us. I enjoy her so much more, when I have a little help, and a few hours to get things done, or do nothing - whichever seems more important at the time.
I'm going to continue on a movie I started last night. Netflix is still working out well for me, but I almost never look at DirecTv - hubby keeps it smoking though, and I find a good animated movie every now and then on DTV for Emma. So we need both for the time being.
Chloe, you and hubby sound like John and me. We like different movies and shows for entertainment. He likes sci fi stuff and he will watch his favorites over and over ad nauseaum (or I get nauseated). I like human interest stuff and movies that are different like foreign films. John is kind enough to watch the things I like at night since he has the TV to himself during the day.
This has been a tough evening. I have been on the phone a lot for work-related stuff. I didn't get to walk tonight or earlier today either. So felt pretty resentful tonight. I had planned on my walk and swim in the morning and family visit tomorrow at noon - and the family called and want me to come in the morn. So my early morning plan to get my exercise tomorrow is busted and I am not too happy now. I guess I will try to do that at noon. I just prefer the morning for my exercise.
We are waiting for the lady to call so we can head to doggie camp. Maggies gear is packed. Last night I took out her tent, the one I thought I could put in her cabin. I unpacked it from the bag and it is big enough for a Shetland pony. It won't fit in her cabin so I went at lunch today to get a smaller one.
I did put her gear in the tent last night and stuck her in it. She looked at me like I was nuts but later when I was trying to catch her to put her Advantage on her, she ran and hide in her tent. It came in quite handy then.
The lady just called so hi ho, hi ho, it's off to camp we go. I already miss her. Sniff, sniff.
Jan, I leave at 4a tomorrow. I'll try to get to bed early.
Dropped my girl off. I set up her tent in her cabin. I filled out a form giving all the important info. I put her pillow, blankie, her soft pad, and one of her toys in her tent. Actually the cabin she's in would have been big enough for the big tent but it would have taken up the entire cabin. Now, with the smaller tent in there she has more than one room in her cabin. If she gets scared, she can hunker down in the tent.
The lady carried her out and held her to wave goodbye as I pulled out. I would have preferred she didn't but probably some people like that.
I keep hearing Maggie sounds around the house since I got home. I forgot I didn't have to put my food up high when I sat it down so she doesn't eat it, in addition to her own food.
It will be particularly lonely at bedtime since that is when we have the best quality time together. She's aloof until bedtime and then we're the best of friends.
I did see most of DWTS last night but it wasn't easy. My Internet connection was slow so it kept stopping and starting.
I see we have another cry baby in the group and she's the one who looks like she could kick all the judge's asses if she doesn't like the score they give her. With the score they did give her I think they might have worried about that possibility also.
I saw a couple who I feel sure Coreen will be picking. Ya know, those with that perfect dancing body and natural ability. I always pull for someone who comes from the back of the pack and tries hard to catch up.
I don't think any really have much dance experience. Do you? I'll reserve any more criticism until they have another dance under their belts and I can watch it in normal speed.
Jan, I was watching 'A Serious Man' by the Coen brothers, who made the movie 'Fargo' and many others. This one took me a while because it wasn't so good. I wouldn't recommend it.
I'm going to watch 'The Men who stare at goats' next (I think) -- mainly because it has such an impressive cast: George Clooney, Ewan MCGregor, Kevin Spacey, and best of all, Jeff Bridges. I never know what they'll be like until I start them. It's a spoof movie, and I usually don't care for spoofs.
Carol, Somehow I missed where you're going this time.
Glad to hear that Maggie is safely tucked into her little cabin, but I know how hard it must be for you. It's going to be a long few days ... but it's good that you found some place you can trust to give her the care she needs.
... oh, and forgot to mention that when I read about Kirsty being on, it also said Kendra Wilkinson-Baskett will be competing too -- and that she said she used to be a stripper, and she said it showed in her dancing. Whatever that's supposed to mean. If you guys notice, let me know.
Dog lady, her name is Dawn, called to tell me that Maggie was doing well. It scared me when I saw her name on my phone but she just called to say she was doing OK. She said that at first she was very timid but she is coming out of it. For a while she just hunkered down in her little tent.
Maggie doesn't have much of an opportunity to have any socialization and I'm glad she's going to get some. She needs to expand her world.
Maggie likes to pretend that I'm not that important to her but I know better, well at least now I do. Oh, I hope she doesn't think I deserted her.
Carol, Maggie will be fine. It's you I am worried about LOL. Thanks for letting us know how she is doing. Wish you had taken a pic in her little tent. I can just see her in there. Dawn sounds like a good person to call you and let you know how Maggie is doing.
Carol, All the Idol contestants did great tonight. We don't know who to vote for but I think Pia stands out among the women. As for the guys, they are all great. I think my favorite is James. Actually every time one of the guys sang, I would say "he's my favorite" but after all is said and done it is James. You know the media is saying he has Tourettes and Asbergers. I can see the Tourettes but not the Asbergers.
This is the best competition I think they have ever had. All of them have something special they bring to the competition. It will be tough to see any of them go home.
John and I really like the judges this season. They are so much more encouraging. Simon was a jerk.
Thanks for telling us when you are going to be on the road. Now I can send you good thoughts on your travel. Take care. I remember that road to Houston so well. Boy did we burn it up. Was the speed limit 55 then?
Chloe, Kirstie danced so well. She really shook her booty. It was so good to see a larger woman dance so well and appear to be unself-conscious. It is hard to believe she is 60.
I thought Kendra danced well. The thing I remember most about her is that she really pushed her chest out in some of her moves. She is well-endowed.
If you all get a chance, go into google and write "guilty dog" It starts out with a picture of a package of cat treats. It is the funniest thing I have seen. Its a youtube video.
I'm getting ready to hit the road guys and decided to take Lappy 2 with me. Chloe. I'm not sure I like Lappy 2 yet so I need to spend a little more quality time with her so I can return her before the 14 days is up. I really like Lappy 1 best but her disease has progressed to the point where she is almost totally dysfunctional. I tell you they make these laptops so that they self destruct. I'm not kiddin here!
It's the viruses that get to these computers, Carol. Have you done a complete scan (anti-virus on LT1 lately. I got a new anti-virus at WM called 'Web Root' the last time I fixed my problems, and it found lots of things I didn't know I had (and cleaned them up for me). Which anti-virus did you put on your new computer?
Web Root was $30 and you can install it on three computers, so that makes it a really good buy at $10 a computer. The last problem I had convinced me to try a new one - although the free 'Windows Security Essentials' works well too. None of them catch everything -- I was told that by Microsoft themselves.
You'll enjoy your new lap top once you get all the settings the way you want them. It just takes a while to get it set up like your old one.
Jan, Kendra Wilkenson used to be one of Hugh Hefner's girls (gag). I've only seen gossip things on her here and there. What I saw about DWTS is that she and Kirsty were feeling competitive - and the part where she said she used to be a stripper and it showed in her dancing. Maybe the sticking out her chest thing you mentioned is what she was talking about.
Glad to hear Kirsty is doing well - but not surprised.
I think they said on DWTS that Kendra was a former playboy bunny. Hugh Hefner was in the audience. He is just a high-rollin pimp, in my books. Kendra's dance partner had on bunny ears at one point. I don't fault the girls for doing that or stripping for a living. They are just trying to make a living like the rest of us. I do not care for Hefner however.
Chloe, I like to do my exercise in the am, but lately have had agency appts in am hours, so have had to adjust my exercise program to getting my walks and swims in -in the evenings. I just have to get my butt up and do it. I slept great last night after that too. I love walking outside but don't like to walk when sun is up. I prefer low sun or no sun for walking. John gets freaked if I walk after dark.
Evening folkes. I'm pooped! Three hours of sleep just don't cut it. Lots of walking. It's a long hike to get anywhere. I bet I put 10 miles on my tootsies today.
I was lost last night and this morning without my little best friend. It was the first time since I've had Maggie that I've been at home with her and I don't like it.
The education sessions are good and I'll enjoy them more tomorrow when I'm more alert. One of the speakers was preaching about some of that research on coffee. I can't remember everything he said but it included that 2 cups of coffee decreased stroke risk, liver cancer, improved liver disease.
If I would have just had a cup at the time, I might have been able to remember more of what all he said.
I had my phone ringer off today but still got 16 calls from the joint and they left messages for me to call back. I did. It's getting ridiculous that I can't even get a break from that place. Even if I had them just call the hospital, the Docs at the hospital wouldn't know how to operate in my environment. They did send me an NP last year to train but she came a few hours, a couple of time and never came back.
Jan, I am watching Idol but you know how much I don't like all that, you're not safe, stuff. I didn't hear them sing last night so I don't know how they did. I'm sure all the teeny bopper girls voted so one of the girls will probably bite the dust again.
I talked with Dawn, doggy camp lady. She has fallen in love with Maggie. She said she is still a little timid but doing well. She does have a way of crawling into your heart.
Carol, I don't give a flying F*** what your speaker said. I think tea has as many (or more) benefits as coffee. BTW, I am not PO'd. Just don't believe it.
Ok Jan. That's my point. You tea drinkers have always felt superior to us coffee drinkers. Ya'll looked down your nose at us. You even hold that little finger up. Thought you were more sophisticated and healthy.
I have just enjoyed turning the table for a change. I kinda got the feeling that maybe the speaker was coming from the same place, especially when he said, sorry tea people, tea doesn't do the same thing. I'm not making this stuff up sister.
My calls from work did finally stop at 7p. My last call was from security, some guy with the history of hypertension and stents told him his heart was pounding. He's been in a week. His Bp was 180/120. A nurse passes every morning, in every location in that place, annoucing loudly for pill call. Anyone needing anything just has to come to that window area or even tell someone during the day but nooooo, they wait until night, when the medical people are gone.
I was standing waiting for some food to take to my room when I got that call. While I was on the phone, my caller ID say SF is ringing in. It's the first time he's used his cell phone since he went to the AL place. I answered that call. SF said I needed to come right now and take him home.
I was pondering about Casey getting voted off last night. I wonder if his look has anything to do with it? He is good but he does have that Paul Bunyon look. Maybe a little makeover would do him some good. It's not just about talent, unfortunately.
Carol, I do believe the stuff about coffee - just don't believe it is better than tea. John is a coffee drinker. He drinks a pot a day. He got off it a while when he thought caffeine was causing him problems. Now he is drinking it again. He was a heavy drinker (of alcohol) for years before I met him and his liver is just fine. I bet its the coffee. He has been on the drugs to lower cholesterol for 15 years and his liver function studies are great.
We were shocked that Casey had the lowest scores too. He is one of my favs and John's absolute fav. So you can bet we will be voting for him next week. He needs to do something to connect with the audience. I was glad the judges gave him a pass. All of this group will be doing the summer tour. They get paid good $ for that. I was a little worried about Casey when they told him he would be staying. He looked like he was having a hard time keeping it together. He kept grabbing his chest and I wondered if he was having some problems.
My favorite guy on Idol is James. It may be b/c he has a disorder. I think he is such a cute and charming guy besides having a great voice. I think of all of the contestants, he connects best with the audience. My favorite gal is Pia. She is phenomenal. The judges compared her with Celine Dion.
Carol, I am in complete agreement that we should eat and drink what we enjoy - quality of life is of utmost importance. Of course, I believe in everything in moderation.
Jan, I hope your road trip is more fun than mine. I'm just starting to feel human again. Got only half the calls I got yesterday. I had to chew on a couple of my nurses this AM. They call me and have none of the info I need to make a decision. I have never fused so they take advantage of my niceness.
I called my secretary and told her to put out a memo for them to get all the important info before calling. Didn't get many calls after that.
Sitting in the last meeting of the day. Dont care for the food here at the Hilton and it is expensive. Found a food court a couple blocks away. Had a good salad for lunch. I think I'll go back there for supper. Saw a Mexican resturarant there.
"She said she is still a little timid but doing well. She does have a way of crawling into your heart."
Carol, I always become overly attached to the timid animals. I find it to be an irresistible trait. They need us to protect them and are forever our babies.
Glad to hear that Maggie is doing fine - and also that things are lightening up for you.
I've spent a good portion of the last couple of days sitting in the doctors office waiting room. This time Emma's got a strep infection (that is apparently going around in Houston - careful, Carol).
She was running an awfully high fever, but now that they diagnosed, we have things under control, and she should be back to normal in a few days.
Our lives seem to be made up of an never ending road of hurdles. I'm learning to put them into perspective, and things are starting to feel much more manageable. I'm allowing myself much less time to worry. It's a lot of work, but I know in the end, things always come out better when we expect them to.
I've felt the last few days that I'm really starting to get it. A working philosophy I have been working on all my life seems to finally be coming together. Mostly in involves 'letting go'. Like that book from so long ago, that I hardly remember now 'Necessary Losses'.
I'm thru for the day but still have a long day tomorrow. Whew! I hiked to that food court down the road to pick up supper. I got an order of chips and salsa and a muffalata. I needed something that wouldn't need to be hot since I will eat it later. I had enough salad the last two days.
If I don't go home smarter, I will go home healthier. I've done enough aerobic walking. Just that hall in the Brown Convention Center must be 2 miles long, then more miles to the hotel, which is next door and miles up to my room.
They have this big exhibit hall at the conference and I bought these shoe inserts there that massage your feet as you walk. With every step you get this ripple sensation moving over the soles of your feet. They're pretty neat. I wish I had them before I put 10 miles on my feet.
We used to be able to pick up all kinds of bags, pens, post it notes, and other assundry junk at those exhibits but not any more. The only thing they give away now is candy and I did get a little of that. I guess the Chinese have lost a lot of business from those pharmaceutical companies. I sure miss getting those pens and post it notes.
Remember I have lots of immunity built up. They don't make anything tougher than criminal germs and I laugh at those.
Back when I was a teenager and came to Houston to stay with my Aunt, who lived here, and party, I used to always go home with a sore throat. Pollution here was so bad back then. There was always a choking cloud of smog over the city and you could close your eyes and smell your way here. It's much better now a days.
Morning. Jan I know you'll be busy getting ready for your road trip to somewhere?? Hope you have fun, whereever you're going?? You know I live vicariously thru your vacations since I haven't had one and we certainly can't count this as one. A vacation should have some fun involved.
Chloe, have you had a vacation since we've known you? I don't remember your having had one either. We used to have Ivy, with all her cool vacations but not anymore. Miss those English owls, castles and that dam store with those moccasins I drooled over.
Jan, did you see Modern Family last week? Do you remember the part where Phil and Clair's, if that is her name, middle child came into the kitchen yelling about having more birds fall out of the sky? Clair said, "you have to stop watching the news". It kinda reminded me of us here.
That show is still my most favorite show on TV. Chloe, have you ever watched it? If not, then why in the heck not?? It is definitely a guaranted chuckle fest! It's also has to be even funnier to people who have raised kids.
Speaking of the news...can any of you guys tell me how Obama is better than Bush? The only thing I can think of is that he nominated two women to the Supremes. Have they done anything significant?
And if I had to choose one of them to have a beer with, if I drank beer, I think I would choose George. He has a better sense of humor.
LOL Carol! You're right, George does have a better sense of humor. I hated him so much when he was pres., but now I can't see any improvement whatsoever with Obama.
I used to say during the election that it didn't matter which party won, they're both owned by the corporations, and I still believe that. I didn't figure that out until that last election, but everything that's happened since has convinced me even more that it's true.
Everything meaningful is happening 'behind' the scenes. Yeah, transparency, my ass.
... got side tracked by daughter knocking on the door. That was an experience, I was a in a good mood until I finished dealing with her.
Anyway, I was about to say (regarding Obama) that one thing that bothers me, is that he keeps taking those expensive vacations, right in the middle of whatever turmoil seems to be happening, and looking like he doesn't have a care in the world. It'd be nice if he at least 'looked' like he cared.
Plus I read yesterday that he's in the middle of campaign mode already. Another distraction from the thinking about the good of the people. Now it's 'what do I need to say to get elected again'.
I will check in here before packing the car. We are just making our usual trip to OK and ARK. Taking tax stuff. I cannot give up our tax guy there. He has been with us for over 12 years now. Most of what we are doing is business. But we always like the road trip, at least for 2 days - then we are ready to come home. I will try and take some interesting pics and post tonight. Maybe some pics of mountains here as we will go through them.
Carol, the conference I went to in LV was the same way. The conf was a mile from our room - but it was good to get some exercise. Glad you found a good place to eat. That is mucho importante.
I am missing my little great Grands. Have not seen them in a while. The one that lives in Colo is coming in 2 weeks and we will have some family parties. I can hardly wait. Both babies are walking well now. I will defiinitely take and post pics then.
Well, better get to packing.
Carol - be careful on your drive home.
Chloe, Stay well.
I will check in tonight. Watch for the star in Weatherford.
oh Yeah, I did watch Modern Fam this week. So funny. Whoever did the casting for that show is good at their job. Manny cracks me up. He is such a little grownup. I didn't like the father of the 3 kids so much in the beginning but he has grown on me. I think the situation with Luke getting making a friend with the older guy next door was a good story with a moral to it. However, I think parents still need to be careful with their young children and know where and with whom they are with at all times.
Jan, i do understand parents unease with strange older men. It's a hazard of my trade. I deal with a lot of old perv men, mostly white men. Don't understand that yet. I have wondered if it is just not reported in other races.
The only thing we need a president for is to get a consensus of what big business/corps want. And for their service in this endeavor they get to take nice vacations and play with the big toys, ie Air Force One.
didn't sleep well last night. Was up late working on tax stuff. Then could not turn off my brain. John did most of driving today and he let me sleep in the back seat. I love this motel, they always have warm, just-baked choc chip cookies. There went the diet - burp. Went down to check out the pool - yep, nice and warm.
John think about 10% of the road traffic today were cars- the rest were trucks and big RV's. I agree.
Watched Grey's Anatomy the other night. 2 of characters in the show are doing an Alzheimer's trial. They were asking potential trial subjects different questions. One question to test memory was "Where were you last Thanksgiving and who were you with? Dang, I had to really dig deep to remember what I did last Thanksgiving. I did remember but took a few minutes. Makes me worry about myself.
Hey Jan, if you ever do forget what you were doing, check the blog. At our, getting older, age we better keep this place going.
Jan said:
"It was a nice Thankgiving. Both my older boys and their families were here. My oldest son and DIL helped out in the kitchen so much. They always do. We had a minor crisis. My kitchen faucet's seal must have went out and we developed a leak under the sink. So will need to be replaced. We found where it was leaking and just put a small square tub under there. It is a slow leak so have only had to empty it once. Will call a plumber Monday. Fortunately, we are going out of town."
I'm home. I cut the last session short and sprinted to the vehicle, a very long sprint. I set the GPS and put the pedal to the metal. I thought I wouldn't be getting in until after 9p so I didn't ask Dawn to let me pick up Maggie but I didn't want to spend another night at home without her.
Since I got a little early start I called to asked Dawn if I could come get Maggie tonight. She said that was fine. I gave GPS girl Dawn's address and she said I could get there by 8p, well that was after she saw how fast I was welling to move.
Besides being able to pick up Maggie, I prefer not to be on the road after dark. I just can't see well at night.
Dawn lives out in the sticks and I was coming from a different direction. It was dark by then and GPS girl told me to turn here, I asked where? I didn't even see a road. I missed it and had to turn around. What did I do before I had a GPS girl??

Love you both and hope you have a great day.
.. oh, and Carol.
I too have never found WM helpful. I hate the WM's here. I go there only if I cannot find what I want anywhere else.
Carol, I can understand why you got so much help from men shoppers. You are a very attractive gal.
Well, time to get to work. A busy day/week ahead.
Now I am really going.
I guess I'll see how it works out.
I'm already nervous about it.
Dang it, I missed DWTS. Why didn't you remind me Jan? Mary just called to tell me. I missed most of them.
Well, at least I didn't miss Kirsty.
Kirsty kicked it! I bet she takes off some of that weight.
Found what I was looking for. Pro name is Derek Hough and he's going to do a movie so no time to do DWTS.
Oops. time to get ready for work.
It's much simpler and more helpful too.
.. Window's 7 is 'smarter' than the previous versions.
-- I should have said the mosquito's aren't that bad this year 'YET' left off a word. I know they'll get much worse as we move into summer.
Carol, Maggie is on a heart worm preventive, isn't she? That's the most important thing regarding mosquitoes.
It says on this page that Bio Spot repels mosquitoes. I've never used it.
http://www.dogcatetc.com/flea-tick-spot-ons.html
My Advocate flea control (which I order from England - it's made by Bayer) prevents heart worms too. It's closest to 'Revolution' that they prescribe here in the states.
Chloe, who makes Biospot? I use Advantage but some of those topical products turn your dog into walking pesticide. I don't want that.
Dummy me Chloe, you did send a link to that Biospot.
Finally hearing some national news on that new oil spill found. I guess there is too many crises to cover.
Jan, is DWTS one tonight or not until next week? I read where they aren't voting off until the next dance.
They said next Tues night is when they have "kick off" night. I am assuming that the night when all do their dances is Monday night.
Carol, I have looked through our guide and there is no DWTS tonight. Our guide says DWTS is next Monday night at 7 pm here.
At the end of DWTS last night they said he finals would be next Tues night. It might be a more interesting season as I thing there are several dancers who look like they are in similar category of good or very good dancers - I didn't see anyone who stood out above the rest.
I'm watching last night's episode of DWTS online. I'll give you my critique later.
Have a great evening!
Chloe, I am so pleased that school for Emma is working out well.
Carol, If you are on tonight, drive safe tomorrow and let us know how things are going for you. Tell us what you are hearing at your conference.
Chloe, would love to know what movie you are watching.
Drive safe Carol. Enjoy doggy camp Maggie. I love the story of the tent.
Carol, write us when you get into your hotel so we will know you arrived safely. Don't forget, tonight is Idol.
Had an allergy attack last night at bedtime - didn't get to sleep until after midnight. Just took a nap. It helped.
Elizabeth Taylor has died. RIP Liz. She said she hated the name Liz. We will miss her. She was a great beauty.
That is sad about Elizabeth but she was pretty sick. Mom was a big fan of hers so I hope they get to meet.
I don't watch DWTS, but read someplace that Kirstie Alley is on it this time. Have you seen her yet, and if so, how is she doing?
Just curious.
Have a safe trip Carol. Hope you stay in touch.
... oh, and forgot to mention that when I read about Kirsty being on, it also said Kendra Wilkinson-Baskett will be competing too -- and that she said she used to be a stripper, and she said it showed in her dancing. Whatever that's supposed to mean. If you guys notice, let me know.
Back to Idol....You go Thia!
Didn't see you sneak in Chloe. I'm not sure who Kendra is. Haven't gotten all the names down yet. Will have to see which one she is.
Kirsty kicked it. Besides being a full figured girl, she's 60 but you couldn't tell. Her scores were in the top few or maybe even the top one.
Honoring Motown tonight. Can't just sit down to watch. Have to dance. Where's that Solarman when you need him?
Ok Carol thia is going to sing. We taped it. I went swimming tonight so missed the first 1/2 but we have a good box for taping.
I like Casey too. He is a big teddy bear.
Thia looks really pretty. I love her dress. Looks perfect on her. I too hope she does well.
Carol,
All the Idol contestants did great tonight.
Off to bed. Drive safe tomorrow Carol. Write when you get to your hotel.
Good to hear you got your swim in, Jan. I know you were upset about missing your exercise earlier.
Carol, be safe on your trip.
.... Hope you both have a great day!
I made it.
Instructors here are from Harvard and Baylor Medical
schools. Gonna be good.
Carol, thanks for letting us know you arrived. Sounds like good conference.
Chloe, I am rootin for Kirsty.
Carol, will you be able to see Idol finals tonight?
One of big reasons I wanted an mac was b/c I heard there are lots less viruses on the Mac. We still use anti virus however.
And Jan, that speaker said that tea was not found to offer the same benefits as coffee. Sorry.
Jan, I am watching Idol but you know how much I don't like all that, you're not safe, stuff. I didn't hear them sing last night so I don't know how they did. I'm sure all the teeny bopper girls voted so one of the girls will probably bite the dust again.
And probably one I like again.
Weird bottom three tonight.
Now that I see who they are, I'm pretty sure who will get the boot and it is one who I like.
I just looked to see who that Kendra, on DWTS, was. I kinda guessed that was who it would be. She does have that playboy bunny look.
Ut oh, results are going to be shocking tonight Jan.
I think the judges may use their save tonight.
I knew it!
I talked with Dawn, doggy camp lady. She has fallen in love with Maggie. She said she is still a little timid but doing well. She does have a way of crawling into your heart.
Sure wish I could hear what Ivy and Hubs think about this Idol group this year. They were always good Idol judges.
Wow! what a surprise. Casey is one of my favs. Never expected him to be voted off.
Carol your girl got through.
It's kinda like the vegetarians. Just wait. Soon they'll come up with what eating a slab of bacon can do for you. I'm waiting.
My point is.....we ought to just do whatever makes us happy and and makes us feels good because...look around, life is short!
People, I may run....but I can't effing hide!
I was pondering about Casey getting voted off last night. I wonder if his look has anything to do with it? He is good but he does have that Paul Bunyon look. Maybe a little makeover would do him some good. It's not just about talent, unfortunately.
Here's some of what the guy was talking about re: coffee. The speaker was a liver specialist and this article includes that info and a lot more.
http://hepatitiscnewdrugs.blogspot.com/2011/02/health-benefits-of-coffee.html
Sorry, don't have that hyperlink formula on this computer yet.
Well, I'm heading out for some breakfast and of course....more coffee.
John has also been a big swimmer and walker too so that probably contributes to a healthy liver too.
Carol, I am sorry you got a call from SF telling you to take him home. I am not surprised though.
Hope you are having some fun.
My favorite guy on Idol is James. It may be b/c he has a disorder. I think he is such a cute and charming guy besides having a great voice. I think of all of the contestants, he connects best with the audience. My favorite gal is Pia. She is phenomenal. The judges compared her with Celine Dion.
We are doing a road trip tomorrow. I will write on the road.
Carol, I am in complete agreement that we should eat and drink what we enjoy - quality of life is of utmost importance. Of course, I believe in everything in moderation.
Jan, I hope your road trip is more fun than mine. I'm just starting to feel human again. Got only half the calls
I got yesterday. I had to chew on a couple of my nurses this
AM. They call me and have none of the info I need to make a decision. I have never fused so they take advantage of my niceness.
I called my secretary and told her to put out a memo for them to get all the important info before calling. Didn't get many calls after that.
Sitting in the last meeting of the day. Dont care for the food here at the
Hilton and it is expensive. Found a food court a couple blocks away. Had a good salad for lunch. I think I'll go back there for supper. Saw a
Mexican resturarant there.
Jan, Enjoy your road trip. Where are you two going this time? Hope you keep in touch.
Anyway, things are going well here - and I hope they're going well for you all too.
We just need to keep it going in the right direction, and let nature take it's course.
Chloe, did they put Emma on an antibiotic? Was it Amoxicillin? Hit your Vit C hard girl.
Yeah Jan, tell us about your vacation unless it's a secret. Take pics.
Guess who's the keynote speaker tomorrow? Bill Frist. Member him? The former Senate Majority Leader. I think I'll skip that talk.
Gotta go.
Chloe, I am so sorry to hear little Emma has had a strep infection. Hope you don't get it. Wow! little kids can really pick up some stuff out there.
Modern Fam is my fav show too.
bye!
This day of the conference is actually a second conference and much busier and intense. 9 hours of meetings. Yuk. Does have better material.
I'm sitting on the floor in the back of the room and even the floor is crowded.
You be careful Jan!
Obama will not get another vote from me. If he is the least worst again, I just won't vote. Unless it's Palin or Neut or........
Well, there is my star, in Weatherford. So cool!
Carol, must be a very popular conference if people are sitting on the floor.
didn't sleep well last night.
I agree.
It is right cold here - about 51 degrees fahrenheit.
Off to test the pool.
Jan, if it's in the 50s, how is that pool warm? My pool doesn't warm up until late May or June.
Carol, How funny about Thanksgiving. How clever of you! This is like a little diary.
So glad you made it home.
The pool is an indoor pool and it was great. They are using salt water not the other chemicals. If I had a pool, that is what I would do.
NEW POST.
I see your star Jan. Wave, I'll look to see if I can see ya.
Carol, Hey there you are. Now GO TO The NEW POST!
