OK here's some Christmas cheer, before it's over, everyone needs to get just a little Christmas in their life...

As for the White Christmas, the latest is we
will not get any snow on Christmas, but likely some on Sunday into Monday...they have been
teasing with the White Christmas for 2 weeks....It has been cold & very windy, but no
snow....

For me, each week that goes by with no snow is
just great...not only do I save $$$ for the plowing, but I don't have to kill myself shoveling...& the roads are not full of sand,
dirty snow, the car stays relatively clean, no
sand/salt on the sides of the car...

Last year we had already have a foot+ of snow,
& it stayed all winter...

Well, well, well, you out did yourself Coreen. Very festive. You made up for my lack of decorations. I almost missed the kiddlie cats. You have so many nice decorations on your tree that those kitties just blended in. The black cat was a little more obvious.

Did you catch them sitting under the tree or did you have to do a little chasing.

How big is that casino Coreen? Later this morning I'm going to our Native American casino a little ways down the road. Haven't been there in quite a while. I'm going with one of my nurse friends from work. It's just something to do.

jan said...

Up early this morn. What a wonderful surprise to see the beautiful pictures of your home and Christmas trees Coreen.

Coreen, love your kitties in the pics. Your trees are gorgeous. Wonderful pics.

jan said...

Have had to go back a couple of times to see all that has been said.

Carol, I love the pic of you and Maggie. I see Maggies ears, but can't see the ones you say you have on

Speaking of "journaling" I do a lot of that, especially when I am struggling with something. When I was going through a divorce 20 some years ago, I journaled a lot. I should go back and read it. I was really having a difficult time with some grief and probably some depression. I still could function ok at work, but life had lost all its joy. I had work to help me get through the day and the journaling helped me get through the nights. Also, I walked 3-5 miles a day and swam almost every day. That and making sure I was eating healthy food helped me get through it too. I had to make myself eat. My weight was the lowest its ever been, yet I was eating more than enough. My friends in Austin kept accusing me of having an eating disorder b/c I had lost so much wt, but when I am under that kind of stress, I lose wt.

jan said...

Coreen, you have some beautiful ornaments on your tree. I bet you have been collecting them for years.

jan said...

"I want to convince Jan that 70 isn't old."

LOL Chloe, Most of the time I don't even think about my age. I do think when I hit the age with a "0" at the end, it really hits me hard, and the big 70 is coming soon. I still think of myself as younger, but when I take a look at my body in the mirror, I am shocked. I don't dwell on it thought. I enjoy life a lot.

I no longer have high expectations of myself and other people. I don't feel like I have to do things perfectly. Good enough is just fine.

jan said...

Was up early this morn. about 2:30. so much coming up, can't sleep.

Carol, how old is Maggie?

Coreen said...

My pleasure to share these with everyone...
The cats wander under the tree whenever, but you won't see the black cat & the little calico
together ever...they don't like each other & have gotten into real fights when first they met...

Yes,I have collected the Christmas ornaments over lots of years, friends give me new ones to add...& I can remember good friends/memories
when I place them on the tree...

The casino is pretty big Carol...we have 2 indian casinos, both within a couple of miles of each other...I managed to actually leave the Sun with $70 more than I put in the slot machines...but I can only take about an hour
there, then I get pretty bored...

Hope you come back a 'winner' today Carol...good luck....

Solar said...

Coreen,

Great pics....and you owe me a dance...will want to collect around new years.....same for all of you......

Will be working tonight and maybe tomorrow, so all of you Pinks have a very special Christmas...will be thinking of all of You tonight and tomorrow....and for all of your families.....

Carol there is nothing that you can do to stop whatever is going to happen....just try to prepare, and then give it the best shot.....and let it go....I give things the best that I can do....and let it happen, or not....the best is all we can do...and there should be no guilt feelings about it......

I posted this over at tm:

Obama. the King, was not the first Jesus a coming.

Like his convention debut there was another ( early 1900s ?) A senator from Ohio, had his in chicago. They also thought that he was the true King....but he was just Warren Harding.

Both just show horses and could not pull the sleigh (the middle class) one from each party, no how and no way.!

On Solar, on Pogo ( happy birthday compadre) Xr, and the Sturg.

into the future they went with a powerful surge.

The past is the past, the present

is here, and in the right now. The Bush/Obama terms, both have high unemployment, with high #'s wit h no $ for presents.!!

On Solar, on Pogo, Xr, and the Sturg, we have a ways to go, and so very far.

Sturg with poetry, and his bright nose, will guide us into the night, all the while, playing his geeeeetar..........

.Hey Pogo, grab that twinkie XR, he is trying to pull the wrong way again........

Merry Christmas

ps, like Harding.....the Press made Obama potus. glad that the papers are being replaced by the web.!!

Hello Solar. Merry Christmas to you and your family. I saw that at TM you guys were doing political non-Christmas Carols. Quite creative of all of you.

Perfect post and beautiful pictures!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone.

(... one more day, then on to the New Years countdown - time to create and commit to some resolutions (at least for me))

jan said...

Hi Solar, love your Christmas poem. How timely.

Merry Christmas, Happy Chanakah, Happy Kwanza or whatever holiday each of you checking in here are celebrating.

One of the loveliest things about this season is that everywhere I went yesterday, people had smiles on their faces and actually looked in the faces of others. So often we are in a hurry to do what we are doing and forget to actually look in the faces of those we pass and smile and say "hi" or "hello"

So here is a big smile :D and "hi" to all of you this lovely Christmas Eve morning. I love you all.

Carol said...

Merry Christmas to all of you also.

Yes Chloe, we are close to making it thru the season. I have quite a few resolutions I need to plan.

Jan, I hope your kids get in safe and that y'all have a nice Christmas visit.

jan said...

We just got back from church. I loved hearing the choir singing carols. Our good friends, Bob and Sue were there too. After coming back from taking the bread and wine, Sue must have slipped out to check out the bathroom, Bob leaned over to me and said, "she just comes for the wine."

My youngest son and his family who drove from South Ark. to OK City today will be here tomorrow afternoon. I am really looking forward to seeing them.

Thanks Carol, I am always a little nervous when any of my kids are on the road.

Good night all. I hope santa visits each of you and you have visions of sugerplums in your heads tonight. Love to all.

Carol said...

Merry Christmas.

Hmmmmm, the economy is suppose to be so bad but...

"People spent more than expected on family and friends and splurged on themselves, too, an ingredient missing for two years. Clothing such as fur vests and beaded sweaters replaced practical items like pots and pans. Even the family dog is getting a little something extra."

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/12/24/holiday-shoppers-came-bac_n_801183.html

I wonder if people are using the same stinkin thinkin our government uses ie, deficits don't matter.

Coreen said...

Merry Christmas guys...Hope this day goes well
for everyone...

We did not get a white christmas, but the latest reports are for 6" & up starting Sunday
afternoon into Monday...still hoping it moves
farther east so we get nothing...

That we have no snow is good, since it was
easier for everyone to get prepared for today...

And yes Jan, I too see that at this time of the
year, most people seem more friendly, even though they are rushing to get things done...

MERRY CHRISTMAS Everyone!

Hi Tony. Merry Christmas to you too!

Hope you're having a great one, and would love it if you'd link some pictures of your decorations, etc. Hope you are doing well.

And once again, Merry Christmas to everyone here. Hope to hear about how everyone's day.

Me... I'm just glad it's over. I'm looking forward to the New Year (and some warmer weather).

Love you all.

Carol said...

Coreen, I just heard about you getting a big snow storm up your way. It's cold and blustery here also, which you may think is not very significant but my cold and blustery is in the house. Just kiddin.

I'm glad the day is over. Since nowhere to go to eat out, I cooked up a meal, put it in some tin pans, brought some rolls and desert and the SF's house I went. I brought him some cookies, nuts and that spiked eggnog they have out this time of year.

While I was cooking the rolls and reheating the dinners, SF was scarfing down nuts and cookies. I think there might have been a handful of words exchanged and after dinner he went to bed and I made a quick getaway.

I didn't even take pics this morning. A little too much happening for Emma. She had fun, but hit overload pretty quick. I'm going to take some pics of her by the tree tomorrow.

I'm glad you got through the day fairly easily Carol. Tomorrow feels more like a beginning than an end.

Carol said...

Did little Em seem to get any of this Christmas stuff?

Anonymous said...

Not really. Everyday is Christmas for her. She's like me, and enjoys her routine. Things were more out of whack today. It'll be better as she gets more time to get acquainted with her new things.

We're thinking about going away for a few days next Christmas.

In my case, I think after 60 Christmases, it's just not the same anymore. I'm ready to do things differently, but have to stay more traditional for her sake.

Did you take Maggie with you?

... oh, and just think - next week we get to hear those blasting fire works again.

Anonymous said...

I saw this pic on Yahoo today, of a two year old sitting on Santa's lap, and I had to laugh, because that could have easily been Emma's reaction, if I'd made her visit him.

http://news.yahoo.com/nphotos/Most-Emailed-Photos/ss/1756/im:/101224/480/urn_publicid_ap_org5a069854830c4ccca8cc2148de89dccd

Two year old's don't quite get it yet, and they have a lot of fears.

Carol said...

Probably not a good thing if a kid is comfortable sitting on an old stranger's lap.

Carol said...

I see Ivy's getting a white Christmas.

Anonymous said...

Yes Carol, I agree. There's a reason for their fears. I never try to force her to do anything she doesn't want to do (ha.. as if I could).

Actually, she's a real sweet heart.
... hope to see you tomorrow!
Different time, same place.

Carol said...

Coreen, get your snow shovel out! 10-15 inches! Stay safe! Do you have your milk, bread, and TP? Plenty of leftovers?

Carol said...

"Numerous times this year, members of Congress have held fundraisers and collected big checks while they are taking critical steps to write new laws, despite warnings that such actions could create ethics problems. The campaign donations often came from contributors with major stakes riding on the lawmakers' actions."

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/12/25/AR2010122502236.html?hpid=topnews

This is something that needs to be fixed or we, the people, are doomed.

Anonymous said...

Oh good, the morning after.

This is a quote from the article you linked Carol (and is right on): "Citizens generally feel this kind of thing falls between the bookends of 'icky' and 'bribery,' "

I'd say out rightly selling votes. Most of these politicians are bought and paid for, ( and I mean all the way to the top). But I think this has been going on forever - it's just now more obvious and they're getting more brazen about it. The warnings are useless - they need to be kicked out of office. Until there are consequences for their actions, nothing changes.

""It makes people wonder: Is the donor making the donation because they are trying to get a particular legislative action? Or is the member soliciting the donation because they feel they have a whole bunch of special interests over a barrel at that moment and can profit from that?" "

Take your pick.

"Ethics watchdogs say that instead of protesting their innocence, members should write clearer rules, disclose all fundraisers or both, in order to address public concern that monied donors are able to buy access at critical stages in lawmaking.

"What this reveals is just how much this is general operating procedure on Capitol Hill, raising money around key legislative decisions," said Nancy Watzman, who oversees analysis of political fundraisers for the Sunlight Foundation, which advocates for government transparency. "This hits right to the core of how lawmakers get and keep their jobs. And they complain when you show the public how it works."

I see what you mean about the weather. I figure when it's this cold way down here, there's plenty worse going on north of us. Our heaters ran so much last night, and we don't set them that high, either.

Mid-Atlantic, Northeast brace for monster storm
"The Northeast is expected to get the brunt of the storm. Forecasters issued a blizzard warning for New York City for Sunday and Monday, with a forecast of 11 to 16 inches of snow and strong winds that will reduce visibility to near zero at times. A blizzard warning was also in effect for Rhode Island and most of eastern Massachusetts including Boston, with forecasters predicting 15 to 20 inches of snow from noon Sunday to 6 p.m. A blizzard warning is issued when snow is accompanied by sustained winds or gusts over 35 mph." http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101226/ap_on_re_us/us_winter_weather

Well I agree that I am glad that Christmas is
over, for another year anyway...

All in all, everything went smoothly here, both
Eve dinner & Christmas day...

Now we wait for the advancing noreaster...a fine snow started about an hour ago, can barely
see it except on the car windshield & the kitchen skylights...fed the birds, hope that
there won't be to much later so I can feed them again...as for tomorrow I will be here until the roads & my driveway is cleared...will
have enough difficulty to clean an area to
feed the birds tomorrow...

Oh well, we made it through most of December with no snow, so now we have to deal with it...
Probably easier for us here than the southerners who got an unexpected white Christmas...

I see the snow has begun to fall.

There are two articles on Huff Post about the upcoming vote on New Neutrality. My intuition tells me this will be an important issue. I think there are powers that would like to censor/control the Internet. They already control the other media to a certain intent.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/al-franken/the-most-important-free-s_b_798984.html

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/timothy-karr/obama-fcc-caves-on-net-ne_b_799435.html

My intuition also ponders if Wikileak isn't a plant to help point to the need to control the Internet. Somes reasons I ponder:

Why is it that it was mostly some silly embarrassing things that came out, nothing that really compromised security.

Why was a kid/private able to download all those secrets?

And think about the timing?

Carol said...

Sorry about my typos. I haven't really gotten out of bed yet, except for food. My bedroom is too toasty warm.

jan said...

Hi all, busy day yesterday and another today. I will catch up later.

Carol said...

Have fun with the family Jan.

Carol said...

Coreen, keep us up with how things are going up your way. You might want to chronicle it in pics. We can share the morbid excitement without worrying about having to dig out or losing power.

Carol said...

Hey, it's just 41 degrees and windy outside and the sun is shining and I don't want to get out of my safe room.

Carol said...

Philadelphia has canceled their game today because of the anticipated snow fall and conditions.

Carol said...

That Scotty man who has the blog has an interesting post today. I keep up with his blog every week ever since Ivy introduced us to him. I think we can all get something out of his post today.

http://tartanscottie.com/macblog/

Sorry no hyperlink. I'm being lazy today.

Ivy, I hope your daughter got to come home and share your White Christmas. Did you get any brussels yet? Hey, I'm not expecting an answer but I can pretend. Right now I'm pretending I'm gonna be snowed in with Coreen.

We all grew up at a time when we had a lot of opportunities to pretend. It's all we had for entertainment. On a lazy Sunday I'm going to see if I can remember how to pretend again.

Carol said...

Oh, on my post above, that was suppose to read...Net Neutrality.

Carol said...

Coreen, on my weather site it says you're having freezing fog. How is that manifested?

Coreen said...

We are in the heart of the storm, heavy snow
since about 4 pm, with enormous wind blowing the snow...the heaviest bands of snow & wind
to continue til early a.m....the sound of the
wind is like a continuous freight train...beside the snow accumulations, the biggest problem will be if we lose electricity, since it is in the 20s & the wind
makes it a whole lot worse...

at 5 pm reported 3" at Bridgeport, but they say
there will still be a foot by morning...since they claim it is snowing at 2"/hour in some places...

When I was out at 2pm the wind made the snow
sting your face, I only cleared a section to feed the birds, they were they until dusk, have
no idea what I will find in the morning...

Don't know what freezing fog would be, can only tell you that looking out into the dark towards neighbors house it is close to white out conditions, can barely see their lights...

Carol said...

Thanks for letting us know what's happening Coreen. It's kinda cool hearing about it even if it might not be having to be in the middle of it. Hope you don't lose electricity.

Anonymous said...

Yes, It does sound so much more real hearing how it feels being there. You were talking about pretending Carol, and hearing Coreen talk about it made me imagine more clearly what it's like to experience it.

I always wonder how the wild life makes it through something like that. That's what worries me most when it's cold here. Inside, we can stay comfortable and safe, but I feel so little control beyond.

Tonight is going to be 24 here, then tomorrow things get back to normal for a while. As long as I can see sunshine fairly often, I'm not going to complain.

Anonymous said...

"I don't want to get out of my safe room."

Everyone needs one of those, a room where they can feel sheltered and secure. I feel the same way, and feel fortunate to have a place that makes me feel like that. I think that may be another thing that all of us here have in common.

Anonymous said...

Jan, Thanks for checking in, even though (I know) how busy you must be. I bet you're having great fun with your kids and grand kids.

Looking forward to hearing about it.

Anonymous said...

I was curious too:

"In the case of freezing fog, the fog cloud droplets are supercooled. When a droplet contacts an object below freezing it will turn to ice. When only freezing fog occurs, there will be just about as much freezing of the fog droplets onto surfaces as there will be sublimation from the surface, thus there is not much accumulation of ice. Often freezing fog will be accompanied with freezing drizzle. In that case, a film of ice will coat surfaces." WHAT IS DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ICE FOG AND FREEZING FOG?

Anonymous said...

Going to read your Scotty link now, Carol. I always appreciate it when you link him, because I forget how much I enjoy reading it some times (and forget to go there).

Anonymous said...

Thanks Carol - a really beautiful post.

"What I’m learning from my year of grieving is that ‘muddling through’ is not a stage of life; it is life, it’s just that I ‘muddle’ more gracefully sometimes than others. Muddled soul-making is the daily process of reaching deep inside for a new definition of who you are and what it means to be your unique self alive with integrity. The good life is letting go of the planned one and turning the given life artfully into stained glass of beauty.

..... May you transform your New Year as well as your old ones artfully into the stained glass mosaic of the story of your beautiful lives."

Carol said...

Thanks Chloe for the explanation of the frozen fog. I could see myself walking into a brick cloud.

Scotty man posts a new post about once a week. Not too difficult to keep up with. It's been interesting experiencing his evolution from being someone who was a part of a loving couple to someone who has to learn to live with just himself. He may find another partner since he seems like a good catch but this time for him is important in his evolution.

Coreen said...

Well, my driveway just got plowed out, there was about 6" when I opened the garage doors so
Donald could pull as much snow as possible back from the garage door openings...

it is still snowing & blowing around, he said not good visibility driving, slick roads, but he wanted to get a jump on it, because it is piling up...he will be back again tomorrow after it is over...

but there may be another 6" by then...Needless to say I will not be driving anywhere tomorrow...The travel channel that shows I95 is
showing totally snow covered roads with the cars/trucks on it crawling along...the snowplows just cannot keep up with the 1 to 2"/hr snowfall...but if the wind lets up & we
don't lose electricity, we will all get through...

Just so you know, the state road crews keep the interstate roads really clean during storms....they will be working all night/day to get those roads cleaned & though
they are now snow covered they are passable...

Carol said...

Brrrrrr!

Carol said...

Coreen, are you under there somewhere? How much snow did you get?

It's cold here this morning. I'm gonna take my time getting ready and getting to work this morning. Last Thursday the Sheriff announced today to be an extra holiday for his bunch. I had Thursday. I work for one of the hospitals.

That means I won't have my secretaries/security but I can still catch up on piles of charts that stacked up over the last 4 days. If I need to see any patients I can borrow some security.

Carol said...

Coreen, I looked on the weather site I use and saw that y'all had somne 60 mph wind gusts in the wee hours and also saw that there are some in your area without power. I pray that you still have power.

Coreen said...

We are still here, but have no idea what it's
like outside yet...the winds is still howling, all night, snow is stuck to the window screens
so hard to get a good view...lots of snow, did
see the town plow on the street earlier...

The live tv reports that there is a whole lot of snow, drifts & most people are not on the road, staying home...schools are closed this week for Christmas anyway, & very few cars on
I95...trains are not working into NYC, the 3rd rail is snow covered...but all in all we
made it through...

once the wind lets up things will get better slowly...wind chill makes it feel like in the single digits...

Carol said...

Whew Coreen. Great news.

Carol said...

Well, off to hit our 26 or 27 degrees. We set a record low today. Have a nice day everyone. Good day to eat Coreen. That's what I like to do when it's cold.
