Walk in the neighborhood

Since we are getting pretty full on the last post, I have decided to start another one. I was walking through my neighborhood in late spring and took these pictures. These flowers are now gone, but their memory lingers through pictures. I will leave it to the others of you who are more knowledgeable about flowers and plants to name them - if you choose. If not, just enjoy. There was a bird in the tree in front of the house, but can't find it now. Thought you all might like to see a stucco-type house.

I found the bird. He is on a dead limb in front of the upper story window. I think he is a sparrow.

The garden and the flowers are some I have posted before. The woman who lives in the house and tends the garden has the first name of "Summers" She works for the Medical School at UNM. A lovely lady. This is the prettiest garden in the neighborhood. It is beautiful all year round.

Jan, beautiful pics, wonderful composition. A+ for you. Ahhhh, memories of Spring and looking forward to Fall.

Good day today. I've turned over a new leaf. No more letting anyone run over me. I had the occasion to put my foot down again today. It was actually pretty easy. Someone else was trying to take advantage of me and my generosity and this one really surprised me. I nipped it in the bud right away and will make sure it stays nipped.

Beautiful flowers Jan, and beautiful pics - another winner!

Glad to hear you stood up for yourself Carol. I just finished making a comment to post to you (based on what you said on the last post). Here it is:

I think what you were calling co-dependence earlier, may be more of a problem with setting firm boundaries. Do you have someone else that can alternate being on call with you?

I guess, no matter how you look at it, you're going to have to be the one that makes the decision about what exactly needs to be done to change the situation. No one, except you, can decide what you are willing and able to do. Then you're going to have to lay down the law.

.... that goes both at work and with your SF's situation too. You may feel you need to take care of all these other things, but who's going to take care of you. Remember your biggest responsibility is taking care of Maggie and 'Numero Uno'. Anything that takes away too much from that is destroying the balance.

Anonymous said...

... sounds like you are ahead of me on the laying down the law thing. Good.

Oh boy, this has been one of those days, when there's no doubt about one thing: Life is hard.

Solar said...

Carol,

I feel that I have to clarify my last comment to you.! No I don't think that you should let people run over you, thats a bad thing period.!!

What I was referring to was the way that you do the hard work that get you from point a to point b....that takes a lot of shoveling imo....the pony ride is just ahead; thats a good thing no?

Carol said...

"People like you can not wait (persistent=results) until you are buried in it"

No Solar, I was over my head in it and using a snorkel to breath. I am a certified SCUBA diver.

Carol said...

I got that dive certification, a long time ago, just to seduce the dive instructor. It worked. I got him. But then he turned out to be one of those guys who thought he could sit at the table with our friends and I would wait on him hand and foot, go pick his plate and bring it to him. Hey, I do like being a hostess, I love waiting on people, when it's my idea!

He's also the guy who took this Cardiovascular surgeon out for his open water dive test and grilled him the entire weekend so he could come home and try to compete with my knowledge on the heart. At the time I was a cardiovascular clinical nurse specialist. WTF? We didn't last...but I still have my certification.

jan said...

" A+ for you."

Carol, thanks. You remember I really like A's. Do you remember that child psychology class we took together at the last of our nursing program. You got an A and I got a B. I was royally pissed at the teacher. He was a young good-looking guy and I was sure you got the A b/c he liked you better LOL. Like you have said - "the funny things we remember." I am curious if you remember this.

Chloe, Just another example of my perfectionist personality.

Carol said...

Just because I was dating the teaching, I didn't get any breaks on my tests either. There were two instructors.

Carol said...

Jan, I think that child psych instructor was gay and he didn't seem to even like kids. Remember, he said that people should never bring their young children out to eat with them because they were too disruptive. I certainly have seen occasions where that was the case.

Carol said...

Jan, I didn't remember the grades.

Carol said...

When my big sis and I were eating out at this expensive, wonderful seafood place in Seattle, this couple let their young kids have the run of the place. They were throwing crackers on the floor and stomping on them. The parents were totally oblivious to what they were doing. It irritated me so much that I think I made a comment loud enough for them to hear. They ignored me also. I was in one of those moods.

Coreen said...

Good evening....

Jan,an enjoyable remembrance of springtime...
& agree with Carol about now looking forward to
Fall,(never really liked autumn, leaves falling from trees, shorter daylight)...but am rapidly disliking summer....we are just staying too hot, too long....

Saw a long term weather clip that suggested the
jet stream would remain far north leavin much of the u.s. with warmer temps into the fall...

Carol said...

Oh yuk Coreen.

jan said...

Carol, I didn't remember that you dated the teacher. I rest my case LOL

I guess I am too much of a child person. I always feel so bad for parents when their baby cries or the kids misbehave. I remember one time in Ft Worth when my son and DIL were visiting with their 2 yr old. He was very upset because he had dropped his sunglasses in the fountain and they were not retrievable. He sobbed throughout lunch. All the people sitting around us just stared. We were starved so just kept eating.

Carol said...

I dated the SCUBA diving teacher, not the child psych teacher.

jan said...

Coreen, thank you. It is so hot today that after my computer lesson, my

Carol said...

Jan, parents can't help it when their kids are crying but they certainly can help it when their, old enough to discipline, kids are wrecking a resturant.

Carol said...

This may sound harsh but if you have kids, who are beyond discipline, and throw their food around the room, run and scream, bring them to McDonalds, where they cater to those children, not to a fancy restaurant where people pay big money to come and enjoy their dinner.

Carol said...

Parents, with lots of practice, can learn to tune out their kids but for people who haven't had that practice, it's torture.

jan said...

did not finish, After my computer lesson I went to my car and it was like an oven. The steering wheel was so hot I could not stand to touch it. I had 2 handkerchefs in my purse and had to use those to drive. I am staying in the rest of the evening. we are supposed to get a break tomorrow.

jan said...

Carol, I do agree with you on the kids and eating out issue. I do not like to eat close to kids who are misbehaving either.

jan said...

I can't tune out my own or other kids. Wish I could.

jan said...

Carol, got it on the dive instructor. I am not remember that. Must have been after I left.

jan said...

I learned some great new tricks on my computer today. This $99. deal from Apple on "one to one" help with a tech person is the best deal going. they must be losing money on that one.

Coreen said...

Oh & about 'perfect'...What comes to mind...

I was & am not a big fan of Martha Stewart...& truthfully not of Oprah either...

(I know she is very successful at what she does though am not quite sure what women saw/see in her ideas) but remember when she had a show (she still may) everything was well..always, always 'perfect'!...

I marveled at the marketing success of MS
just didn't get it...she had a huge staff & unlimited funds & resources to create the images that women thought they could do on their own...& never understood how women could
think they could do the things MS was selling
w/o the entire entourage...

But oh by the way...I do a 'perfect' Christmas tree!!!.....

Carol said...

Just because I mentioned rambunctious kids, my Maggie is acting up. I think she's hungry.

Carol said...

I remember when my older sis came down to visit with her son, about 2 y/o. He was very hyperactive. She had him on a leach/harness because she couldn't control his running off. It was humane. We went into a clothing store and he was crawling on the ground, barking. I was totally embarrassed. I had lots of sympathy for her but still totally embarrassed.

Carol said...

I wonder how Martha S enjoyed her time in the joint. Did she ever write a book about it?? I told you much I prefer dealing with the men than the women.

Carol said...

And Coreen, we've seen your beautiful Christmas decorations.

Coreen said...

Not sure about Martha & her time in prison...I sure wouldn't have wished that on her...what little I recall from the time, was that she & the other women got along pretty well...not sure if that was just PR or factual...& honestly thought she was over-prosecuted for what others did routinely...

Coreen said...

From yesterday's NYT....the ages of bloggers...Are we bloggers here?

The majority of bloggers are 21 to 35 yrs old
& are 53% of the blogging world...

In second place bloggers under 21---20.2%

36 to 50 are 19.4%....& surprise....

those bloggers over 51 make up only 7.1%

And the U.S.A. has nearly 1/3 of all bloggers...more than 4 times that of the next
country, Britain...
Where the bloggers are concentrated

Carol said...

Cool info Coreen. We are in that 7% group. A little unusual.

Coreen said...

Not sure, is that a good thing or does that mean there is something odd about us!!....or are we just more 'with it' than others from our era...

Carol said...

We're totally cool Coreen. And our blog has outlived it's life expectancy. I guess, even though we may be a little rare, we aren't quitters.

Carol said...

And that totally cool just might be due to the decreased circulation that come along in our age group.

Carol said...

That was suppose to have a LOL after it.

Coreen said...

You are so right...we aren't quitters...no
way....remember my motto always...only the
strong survive...& that was an old, old song..let me see if I can find it....

Carol said...

I remember that song.

jan said...

I seldom watch the Martha Stewart show. I do like her magazine. I admire her because she has made it in a man's world.

Coreen, I agree, she was given a much worse sentence than men have been given who have done similar or worse things. I think women generally are treated worse by the justice system.

jan said...

I think it was Jean Harris who did some good things in prison for her peer prisoners.

jan said...

interesting info about bloggers. It seems to me that we have formed friendships here that maybe don't happen on other blogs. I know I feel as if each of you is a friend.

Carol said...

Coreen, you may be happy to hear that I'm no longer a cattle baroness. I sold all my cows. I no longer have a herd. It's a little sad for me. One of my checks has been lost in the mail but they are cutting me a new one. Probably that bad cow karma. Having shrimp tonight to celebrate.

Carol said...

Jan, I feel particularly close to you. Oh yeah, we were already friends.

Coreen said...

I found it....Jerry Butler...The Iceman
Only the Strong Survive

Coreen said...

Carol, you sold your cows...good for you I'm
sure, but don't want to know what happens to
the cows...& make sure you get that check...

Carol said...

Coreen, they all went to a happy ranch where they'll live happily ever after.

jan said...

Coreen, I have not heard that song before. I bet it came out between 1965 and 1968.

jan said...

Next time I go through Amarillo, I bet I will see your cows Carol.

Carol said...

Do you know the year for that song??

jan said...

Carol, enjoy your shrimp. I need to go check and see what to fix tonight. Too hot to go out. I don't want to get into that hot car again.

Coreen said...

Jan, as far a Martha S, I say more power to her
that she created a successful business....but
I just don't get it...early on had a free
subs. to her magazine...but again found the
projects to be not realistic unless you had a
staff....like did you ever try to dig a hole
to plant a tree...trust me...(here, the ground
is like a rock!) & if you don't have a gardener
to dig it...& carry it & pick it up & plant it,
you can't do it...& neither does she, not w/o
the extensive staff....so for that I think
she presents an exceedingly false premise that
many women try to follow...perfect, perfect,
perfect....everything is perfect....her tagline

jan said...

Coreen, LOL. I think I like the pictures in her mag.

Carol said...

I boiled the shrimp and am eating them dripping in lemon, butter and Tony's seasoning. I'll chase that with the broccoli I steamed. The broccoli will sweep that cholesterol right outta my system. Yummy.

Coreen said...

The song...late 60s...1968....

jan said...

I don't look at the gardening stuff. I almost killed a tree - pretty hard to do.

jan said...

I figured that is when the song came out. Usually I have at least heard the music a little. I was in Argentina in those years. It was like living in a different world.

jan said...

Recently I was looking at pictures of Martha in her magazine. She was posed in same way with same smile each time. It was uncanny.

Coreen said...

What are you trying to eat all the shrimp you can get before there may be a problem(which I truly hope does not come to pass)...read
somewhere that next years oysters may be coming from New England somewhere at double
the price since the gulf may not be able
to produce them....(I don't eat oysters)

I love shrimp, fried, baked, stuffed....cold
in shrimp cocktail...& even though I am a
really fussy eater...would you believe I absolutely love raw cherrystone or littleneck clams...but only those that are no bigger than a quarter...my friend laughs at me & says I want 'illegals'...(those to small to harvest here)

Carol said...

Coreen, I got these shrimp in June, when sis was here. They were caught around here, which is away from most of the oil action but I'm not sure I'd want to get any more right now.

Carol said...

I paid $3.50 a pound for some very nice large shrimp. That's a bargain but typical if you get them at the dock.

Carol said...

And Jan, our Redbox movies are just a buck, nine cents for a movie. It's cheaper to live down here and I get a view.

Carol said...

Oh and PS, she's now UPS. I'm not referring to the shipping company. She's now under porch spider.

Carol said...

Lindsay has finally hit the joint. I bet she ends up having fun. She'll have lots of fans there and they will have lots to talk about.

Coreen said...

You were outside?...with Maggie I presume...

By the way it was hot & sunny today, but did not make 90, so that is a plus...& just a bit
less humid...

And baseball update..my Yankees are behind 6 to 2 to the Angels, in the 6th inning...may need to
get another starting pitcher before the end
of the trading deadline in 2 weeks....

Carol said...

They can pick up new players now? To play this season??

Coreen said...

Yes, but just til the end of july....

jan said...

"Oh boy, this has been one of those days, when there's no doubt about one thing: Life is hard."

Chloe, sorry it has been a hard day. I am here if you want to talk about it.

Carol said...

Isn't it sad about that lady who was forced to resign from the Ag Dept. She was giving a talk, years ago, to the NAACP about an occasion where she was to help these white people save their farm. She wasn't too excited about it because so many black people had lost their farms. She was not going to give them the full help they needed until she realized it wasn't about white and black but rather about rich and poor. She did help him save his farm.

Some right wing, tea party, yahoo, got a copy of that talk and edited it to make it sound like she was a racist. Fox News ran with it without question. Then Obama did the same thing and they made her resign. Fortunately the rest of the MSM has come to her defense.

It's a lesson for all of us. It really isn't about white and black it's more about rich and poor, ignorance and jumping to conclusions. But racism was behind all of the above.

Carol said...

We're all here Chloe. I got the cheese and you can bring the whine. I brought the whine the last 20 times, it is your turn.

Carol said...

Ya know, I have to confess something. I'm actually having a little bit of fun running my SF's operation. It's only because I have so many good people to work with, mainly this girl Friday, who is the bookkeeper. She's really running the entire show but she lets me pretend that I am being useful. Hey, I told you I have a good imagination. I can pretend.

Carol said...

Lindsay is going to be in solitary confinement. That's tough. She would be better off being able to be with some other women. They would take care of her and I'm sure they couldn't teach anything worse than what's she's already knows. And then Lindsay could also see that she had a good life, at least better than most of the other women that are behind bars.

Carol said...

And I want to clarify something. It wasn't Obama who made that lady resign, but rather his administration. I don't want to pull a Fox News here.

Carol said...

And to answer your earlier question Chloe, I don't have and have never had anyone to rotate call with. The only option I would have is to let the ER Doc, at the hospital, take it. They don't have a clue about our environment in the joint. They would be operating totally blindfolded. They even know this. That's the only reason I have done it all this time. If I could have found an alternative, I would have used it years ago.

I do have a plan in the works but will involve reducing my peeps dependency on me for routine things by having some standing orders, tightly written and easy to administer. My peeps do know our environment but are way too dependent on me to tell them everything. One good thing is that my staff is now experienced and more stable than it has ever been.

jan said...

I suspect Lindsey may be in solitary confinement for her own protection. Just a wild guess.

I saw that show about the woman being fired from the Ag Dept. Just a good example of crappy politics at work. Sounds like she was set up. I hope she gets her job back.

jan said...

"One good thing is that my staff is now experienced and more stable than it has ever been."

Carol, sounds like you have a good plan in mind and I bet your staff can handle some more responsiblilty.

jan said...

Carol & Chloe, I watched he movie, Shutter Island again. I think I get it now. I had to watch it all over again to get the idea that the director was trying to put across. Just another example too of how war can really mess up a person.

Carol said...

Jan, I haven't completely pondered that poor lady's situation out yet. It's gonna take some serious pondering. It is such a cluster f---.

This politically retarded world, there's no correct to it anymore, has become of joke. Somebody is rolling up there watching it. Someone with a wicked sense of humor. There is a lesson, but it hasn't totally evolved yet.

We have gone so overboard regarding this racial stuff that people need to write down anything they want to say and have a group of experts evaluate it before it is ever spoken. Thank you MSM. You started it. Now they are trying to rescue from it.

This lady was wronged. She had a period where she was predjudice, no doubt about that but she saw the light, did the right thing, tried to share that experience with others and now 20 years later, she fired for it. Makes perfect sense.

Another thing that I pondered is....if this would have been a white person, who did the same thing, the media would have been scared to death to even look in to it. They wouldn't have touched it with a 10 foot pole. They are more comfortable saving a black person than saving a white person. They can pat themselves on the back for that.

Oh, there's a lesson here, but their still working on the sylabus. OK. The more they beat this to death, the dumber they all look. News needs to go back to what it used to be, underdone.

Carol said...

Part of this is Obama karma. His campaign used this kind of BS, when it was against some white person who might be threatening him, Geraldine Farraro comes to mind, and then they jump to conclusions about this poor black lady without investigating it. His karma finally bit him in the ass. It's also a Fox News karma. LOL.

I told you that karma has been coming around pretty fast these days. Watch your back people. Think before you throw out that boomarang.

Carol said...

I didn't mention Imus because he needed some karma. He had it coming. He was so ulgy, to so many, that he needed some time for reflection. He pretty much never said anything politically correct. It was interesting that is was what he said about some young black women that finally bit him in the ass.

Carol said...

Oh, that ulgy...that's not a typo, it's a new word. I'll tell you what it means later. Stay tuned.

Carol said...

And Coreen, since you sometimes find Billo entertaining, I have also at times, you might want to watch to see how he extracts his mouth from his mouth. Will he need surgery??

Carol said...

I'll have to say one thing...at least I have been distracted from worrying about lethal gas popping outta the earth...I'm now focused on the lethal gas popping outta people's mouths. LOL

Carol said...

And yes Jan, Lindsay is in solitary, or what they call "the hole", for her protection. Most of my peeps would consider that torture. Ya have no socialization. Less phone calls home. Ya get a shower every other day or twice a week. It's not a pleasant alternative but you are protected from others.

Coreen said...

As far as the latest dustup to distract the
public...another example of 'gotcha' politics
at its best...the right wing (Breibart)thought it had a way to counter the naacp's resolution aimed at the tea party people alleging
racism...

backfired since the entire video of the Georgia
woman would have shown something entirely different than Breitbart intended, Foxtv first
used the clip, the Obama adminsitration & the naacp reacted to the clip, w/o gathering all the facts...all to the detrimennt of the woman...

Business as usual in today's political climate...the divide in this country over many
things including race has always been there,
though for a period of time, not as obvious, but likely still there....unfortunately the
use of the word 'racist' has become fashionable
to undercut an opponent's credibility...

But honestly while some of us actually pay attention to these dustups...for the most part...people are just going about their business trying to take care of their families...& paying little attention to this
stuff.

Carol, not sure what you meant about Billo...were you saying he puts his foot in his mouth on many occasions...or something I
just didn't get...

Coreen said...

As far as Imus...he has always trashed anyone, any thing, that he felt got him ratings & thus
more $$$$...no one was exempt from his brand of 'humor'...

that he got caught by the racial PC police (with what coming from him & his crew was really quite mild, in light of some of his past trash talk) was well ironic (but again a sign of the times)....

I know some of you may not agree,
but in the end...$$$ is what drives just about
every action....

you may not strive to become
'rich' whatever the definition of rich means to you, but in the end making money is the driving force for most behavior...in particular
in the media world that really controls just about everything seen & heard, 24/7, 365 days,
always!!!....

As I have said, probably more important to concentrate on one's own personal surroundings,
'sphere of influence' so to speak...& disregard, forget (whatever word applies)the
constant bombardment by the media of what they
decide is important, useful & necessary...

When we lived in LR, we watched Imus often. I should say John had Imus on. I never cared much for him. The show was just too "testosterone filled" for my taste. I did not appreciate his and the other men's brand of humor. I was very happy when he was "canned."

jan said...

As for Linsey. The sentence with the mandatory time she must spend alone, I hope she will use to think about how she got where she is now. A vehicle is one of the most lethal machines we have out there. We all need to be more aware of that. I drove once while under the influence (with no ill consequences) and when I think of that occasion, I feel nauseated. I have a grandson who had 2 DUI's shortly after he turned 21. He did not have to serve a jail term, but he lost his car and license for about 3 years. He started on a self-destructive path his junior year in HS. He is almost 25. For several years, partying was his main focus in life.Despite all this he is a sweet and kind person. My son (his dad) and wife are great parents. After he lost his license, they let him move back home where he lived for 3 years. They drove him to work every day. He has mostly been a server in various restaurants. They have done all the right things, except maybe use a little more tough love. He recently moved out on his own again, driving and has a girlfriend. We are all hoping he will find a constructive focus in his life. We can only pray.

jan said...

Well, I am off to spread that good nourishing soil under our tree. Then I will water it really well. Wish the tree luck - even prayers would be good.

Music Influences Education and Emotion
As well as numerous other human traits

Music plays an important part in educating individuals, new research shows

Music has been with people since the beginning of time, and scientists now think it's safe to say that its influence most likely has been vastly underestimated. A new, extensive review of the scientific literature on the effects of music on humans shows that listening to one's favorite sounds is very likely to enhance skills such as language, speech, memory, attention and even vocal emotion for the better. The study was possible because of the vast number of investigations that have been carried on the influence of music over the past few decades, e

"A musician's brain selectively enhances information-bearing elements in sound," Kraus said. "In a beautiful interrelationship between sensory and cognitive processes, the nervous system makes associations between complex sounds and what they mean." The efficient sound-to-meaning connections are important not only for music but for other aspects of communication, she said.

The Nature article reviews literature showing, for example, that musicians are more successful than non-musicians in learning to incorporate sound patterns for a new language into words. Children who are musically trained show stronger neural activation to pitch changes in speech and have a better vocabulary and reading ability than children who did not receive music training.

I prefer to think it's a good thing. Not only are people our age not bloggers, but I run into a lot of them that don't even use a computer. I think not using one is just a way of fighting change, and when we don't take advantage of what's available to us, then we miss out on a lot.

Glad to hear that things are working out for you Carol. Isn't your sis getting back today (or was it yesterday).

Mary, Let us know how it went, and how you're doing, when you get a chance.

Carol said...

Coreen, Billo put his foot in his mouth regarding this incident. But, I will have to say, the other MSM may have taken what he said outta context. So we don't want to make the same mistake with Billo that was already made with Ms. Sherrod.

I have listened to Billo and at times have even agreed with him. I think he would apologize if he also wronged Ms Sherrod. Since you said you sometime watch him, I was just curious if you have heard anything from him or let me know if you do hear anything from him.

Carol said...

You might find this interesting in light of what I was talking about today. I think I mentioned that I had to endure the cursing and screaming from an inmate last week because he couldn't force me to give him a drug he didn't need. I think I was talking about it when I talked about some of the sociopaths I deal with at work.

This man was all sweetness and nice when he came in to see me last week. He is a frequent flyer at our jail. When he couldn't manipulate me into giving him something he didn't need, he left screaming, cursing both me and my secretary/security guard, and almost physically threatening the security guard. We wrote him up for several of the rules he broke.

He went to DB (disciplinary board) court this week and, in his defense, accused me of calling him the N word. My nurses hear just about everything I tell the inmates. It is important that they do, for my protection. I do have a big mouth and I do get a little louder when there is a verbal conflict.

I never use that word. I'm sure no one will believe this guy but it really aggravates me that he said that I did and I will probably be answering his grievance regarding this accusation. Isn't that weird, considering my discussion this morning.

Coreen said...

Carol, did not see Billo last night...will try to remember to turn him on to see if he reviews
the events around the Sherrod incident...

As far as the inmate making allegations against you, I am confident that those you work
with will know instantly that he is so far off
base that anything he alleges will be dismissed
immediately...but it must be frustrating to even have to respond to such behavior...

And yes what just happened to you is a good example of what is increasingly happening....those that toss out inflammatory
charges to benefit their 'cause'....

Here is a pretty good summary of the current
atmosphere, I saw it at Politico this a.m. but
forgot to link it...
so much for that conversation about race

Carol said...

If truth be known Coreen, I tend to be more sympathetic to my AA patients than the white ones only in they are more often a victim of being poor.

It is more of a rich/poor issue than white/black issue and I am sympathetic to those who are poor. They are victims in so many ways. They may be charged with a petty little crime but can't even meet a very low bond so they sit and rot in jail, forever.

Carol said...

Re: Article you linked. Yes, yes, yes. It's dumb and dumber.

Jan, not too many of the people who go to jail spend much time pondering. They are pissed. They want someone to blame...it's mamma's fault or it's daddy's fault or it's my old lady's or old man's fault.

You can even tell how much they are willing to accept responsibility by the language they use, ie. "I caught a charge". That means that a charge was flying by and they accidentally reached up and caught it.

"They violated me or I was violated". That means they violated the terms of their probabion but it certainly wasn't their fault. They were the victim.

Since LL won't be doing much pondering, I thought it might be educational for her to spend some time with some of the other women in the joint. She might see that she has so many more advantages, by comparison. She doesn't have as much of an excuse as many of them do. They would also watch out for her and it really would be less scary for her.

Carol said...

And some woman just coming out of jail told the media what LL would be eating. They reported it as Turkey Tetrazini. I think that woman called it dog vomit. I would have to agree. They usually get stuff from the commissary and make "hook ups". Each inmate contributes something and they make a cassarole surprise. Ramon noodles are a very popular fare.

I'm wondering just how creative MS was able to get with the commissary food list.

Solar I was musically trained and considering my reading ability, I'm afraid of what might have been if I didn't have that training.

Coreen,

Did you catch any of the Factor tonight? I'm curious. I tried to catch some of it but was stuck to the phone most of the night. I only caught a few blurbs of Fox News.

Well, I just caught a little Billo rerun and from what I heard, he said he was going to cut Vilsack/Obama Admin. some slack for jumping to conclusions because of he himself did it. Sounds like a tiny little Mea Culpa to me. That jerk, Dick Morris, he was interviewing, wouldn't. Sorry, but he is a dick head. And full of hatred. Are those horns on his head?

I heard a few other blurbs from the rest of the Fox comedy gang, and they are going after the Obama administration for doing what they all did. What hypocrites. They are disgusting. They are now investigating every detail of Ms. Sherrod's life to see what dirt they can dig up on her. What a bag of worms this has become.

Cable news is such a soap opera but watching Fox News is like watching the clowns at a circus. It's really quite amusing.

Carol said...

Well, I think I beat that poor Ms. Sherrod incident to death. Saw somewhere that this was an attempt to get the news off the BP story. It worked. Still has lots of poisonous hot gas involved though. If this was really the case, do you think that Ms. Sherrod got to volunter for the assignment?? I hope so.

Jan, you know we talked about your grandson and I think you have come to one of the only conclusions for helping him. Prayer. If dealing with the consequences doesn't help, then all you got is prayer. The rest is what we call down here in southern Louisiana, lagniappe, pronounced lan yap. Means...a little extra.

We also discussed how some people get by with drinking and driving all the time and some never do. Why?? I don't have a clue. I ask everyone, and no one knows.

There is a lot of heavy drinking in my neck of the woods. There is a significant amount of it in my small friend group. It goes right up the food chain around here. It's part of our culture. Dang good thing that it doesn't agree with me. But not being able to enjoy alcohol is one of the reasons I don't go too many places. It just gets old watching people get drunk when I am stone cold sober. Not fun.

Don't like it when I invite people over to eat either and many of them won't eat because they don't want to ruin their buzz. They just take my food home to eat before bed. I turn into a takee outee joint. And I don't know if anyone really liked my food because I'm not sure they could even taste it. I might be a terrible cook.

Back to the, some get caught and some never do, phenomena. This entire phenomena is one I have studied more than anything else since I have worked in corrections. I even warn my guys and girls of it. If you are one of those who gets caught, tie yourself to the bedpost, in your room, before you take the first drink. Kinda like the Werewolf. Keeps you off the streets and out of jail.

One of the problems also may be that some end up beating the consequences many times so they think they can always beat them. Next thing they know, they get a long jail sentence. It might list 4th DWI on their record when it is actually the 10th.

I've even asked some if they felt a little humiliated by that 1st or 2nd DWI or 3rd. I see the wheels turning but I don't always get an answer to that question.

Seems I heard once that there are some really serious consequence to DWI in Australia. I haven't looked into it yet but I wonder if that decreases the frequency of DWI. Oh, and with our law down here, DWI is driving while intoxicated and in other places it is DUI, driving under the influence.

And Coreen, I waited for one of my cow checks for almost two weeks. The other check came the next day after it was written and mailed. I finally called them yesterday and told them to stop payment on that first check and issue a new one. They did. I finally got it in the mail yesterday...but it's no good since they stopped payment. There has to be something I'm doing wrong here. Maybe it's getting outta bed in the morning.

Coreen, just heard it was one heck of a Yanks game last night. I'm surprised you didn't tell us about it.

Anyone noticed that Joe, on Morning Joe, has no lips? I wonder what kind of kisser he is? Can ya kiss with no lips.

Good morning...

A breath of fresh air here this a.m., we had
some thunderstorms/wind last evening (no
damage) & the humidity left for today only...
but I'll take it, even though it is going to
be high 80s....

Carol, the Yankee game was during the afternoon,(I was listening at my office) & they won 10-6, but only after the Angels came close & a young player came in to pinch hit for Bret Gardner who was thrown out for saying something to the ump (can't argue balls/strikes...though not sure he
was) & the young player hit a 3 run homer....

As far as Billo...he did apologize, said he
should have checked the facts before opening
his mouth...& so should have the obama people
before jumping to conclusions...

beyond that though the Obama team cheerleaders
(MSNBC crew) would like this to be the death of FoxNews, apparently one of your favs Rachel was wasting no time in exploiting fox
stupidity in pushing the clip...nothing changes
fox rolls on, msnbc limps on...cnn tries to
get back on top....& they will each exploit
the next big thing to each of their advantages...business as usual....

Hey Coreen, I'm still here. Waiting on the resolution of a little tummy problem, maybe some gastroenteritis, maybe a stress reaction. I'm still in bed. I think I'm taking my own, earlier advice.

I'm not a Rachael fan but I did give her cudos for some of her BP coverage. I've actually been a big critic of hers. Thought she was too cutsey and snarky. She seems to have become a Jr. Keith.

I get tired of MSNBC always going after Fox even though Fox made have it coming. They are almost as bad as Fox even though they are on the opposite side of the fence. I was pondering last night about how they need to come up with an Olympic event for this cable news sport of dueling each other. I was working on a name for it. We do need to be able to watch it, on the same screen, at the same time. Of course, only one side at a time can talk.

Carol said...

Fox News is alive and well down in my neck of the woods. If you walk into any establishment around here, with the news on, it's set to Fox News. They keep the hate alive.

Carol said...

and that was suppose to be kudos, not cudos. I guess I'm confusing it with Cujo, that rabid dog in the Stephen King novel. Cujo might be a good description of Keith O, with some of his Special Comments.

Coreen said...

Hope your problem goes away soon...Are you going to stay home today...or just go in late...

Fox is on many public TV's around here too...

as Billo pointed out during his apology
routine last night, while showing some of the clips from his arch enemy NBC/msnbc ...he made a point of saying that Fox beats them each & every day...

Congregating at places like TM may give a false sense of what most people think & believe...

Apparently Olbermann had another 'special comment' last night about the sherrod saga...
only read about it, not sure what his rant was about...honestly don't watch msnbc anymore &
don't miss the rantings....

Censored Gulf news: People bleeding internally, millions poisoned says 'EPA whistleblower'

Carol said...

From the above linked article:

"Kaufman concurs with MSNBC's report last week, that "sole purpose in the Gulf for dispersants is to keep a cover-up going for BP to try to hide the volume of oil that has been released and save them hundreds of millions, if not billions, of dollars of fines... not to protect the public health or environment. Quite the opposite.."

He says to follow the money, and that leads to individuals in the Obama Administration, naming Mr. Geithner, Mr. Summers with close ties to Larry Fink who owns BlackRock that owns most BP shares."

"[T]he media now has to follow the money, just as they did in Watergate, and tell the American people who’s getting money for poisoning the millions of people in the Gulf."
