Easter Sunday commemorates the day when Mary Magdalene discovers the empty tomb
and Jesus first appears after his death....
time we enjoy the beginning of Spring, a rebirth, a time for new beginnings....and with that celebration we anxiously wait for those adorable Easter bunnies to arrive with baskets full of colored eggs and lots of candy....
The annual Easter Parade in Manhattan gives those brave enough, a day to strut their stuff with those fabulous, crazy Easter bonnets....
And we can't forget our fur family members, who also enjoy celebrating Easter....here's Maggie with her friend purple bunny......

Guys, I love you all, you have added much to my
enjoyment of life....and since today is a
wonderful recognition of life and joy, Happy
Easter to everyone...
FYI, I found those photos that I had stored in
'my pictures' using that little scanner gadget
I mentioned a long time ago, when I was gathering Easter pics...which lets you
scan quickly old, old photos to an sd card &
to your computer...as you can see, the scanner
works really great since those pics are like
40,50+ years old.....
Awe, that was really extra special Coreen. Thank you very much.
"Easter was originally a pagan festival. It was co-opted by Christian missionaries starting in the second century CE"
Didn't the same thing happen with Christmas?

Coreen, a very special post for today. The pics of you as a little girl and young woman are my favorites. You are so talented. You have added so much to my enjoyment of this day.
Carol, we will all be waiting to hear how your dinner and your day turns out.
Chloe, I am waiting to see Easter pics of Emma.
We are going to our son's and DIL's house for an Easter celebration. We all contribute to the dinner. I think we are having ham and without a doubt - some deviled eggs (wonder where that name came from). My DIL has a big family here - her mom and dad, 3 siblings and their families will be coming and our other son and his family and us. I am hoping my new great grandbaby will be there too. I have not seen her for about 3 weeks.
Solar, I learned a new Spanish word the other day - I love Rudolpho Anaya's books - he is a professor at the Univ here and a well-known writer of stories about NM and the hispanic culture. His books are in English but he always sprinkles a good bit of Spanish in his writing. His most famous book is "Bless Me Ultima" My new word is "Bisabuela" from the book I am reading of his now - which means great grandmother - which I am. The book is titled "Zia Summer." The story takes place in Albuquerque. It is a murder mystery and the character is a man about 30 who aspires to be like his "bisabuelo" who is his role model and hero. This book is one of his that is lighter reading (than Bless Me...)and fun.
Happy Easter to all. Coreen very nice pic..i knew that sooner or later if I kept asking U nicely I would get a cpl.....will be honest tho.....that gto caught my attention just as much as that nice looking pink outfit.!! cool car.
Jan I like the humble title to that book. "Bless Me Ultima" which means bless me last...he is not thinking of himself, but of all people before him...at least the title of his book does....wish I had the time to look into his books.....Im behind on a few right now..and re-reading a cpl of old ones....
I think that I can come up with an exercise to help u with your balance.....what I do cos of my degenterative disck dease, one of them, is to put my feet together, and then lift one leg, and put my heel on the front of my other knee...I balance my self by supporting myself, reaching and support the knee that is lifted, t hen alternate with the other side..
Carol have a great day...later
Solar, Thank you for the exercise. I am going to try it right now.
I think you would like Anaya's books. I have bought several of his children's books for my grandchildren. His children's stories are lovely and he writes the stories in English on one side of the page and Spanish on the other side. He also has an artist do the illustrations which are beautiful. I keep his books - for me they are all treasures.
Thanks guys. The ribs are done and simmering in my BBQ sauce. I have the chicken and beef sausauge cooking now. Potato salad is done and so am I!
They just called me about our pregnant girl, after she left the third hospital. Her vomiting/coughing up blood was because she had chewed up the inside of her mouth. I told them to look there first.
Carol, my mouth is watering.
Do you think the pregnant girl chewed up her mouth purposefully?
Coreen,
You covered everything I remember and loved best about Easter. Thank you.
When I was growing up, we'd all gather at my grandmother's home for a festive day. She was widowed by then, my grandfather (the German immigrant) having passed away of a heart attack three years before my birth, so I never met him. My grandmother stayed in her home after his death even though it was much too big for her. It was a large old farm house that predated the Civil War. It had expansive grounds and was surrounded by fields, all perfect for hiding Easter eggs. My favorite spot to hunt was on a hillside along the creek that was covered with daffodils. I'm sure that's why daffodils remain my favorite spring blossom today - besides being yellow!
My aunt was usually in charge of the Easter Egg Hunt which was staged for the conglomeration of no less than twelve cousins (only half our number but some lived far). It was great fun... until I realized my diabolical "Siamese Twin" brothers were pulling a fast one on my aunt. They were pooling their eggs so one could claim the prize which they would then split! Bless their pointy little heads! Of course, I tried to blow the whistle on them, but I was whistling in the dark. My awareness of the "system being rigged" apparently started early in life. lol
Still, many wonderful memories of Easter baskets, frilly dresses, shiny shoes, and the obligatory ribbon-trimmed hat!
Very nice post Coreen. Now the day seems more complete.
Love the pictures of you (was that your GTO?). What a beautiful child and young woman you were (and I know you still are). I smiled when I read that you rarely smile for pics - because I'm fairly sure that Emma is going to be the same way. I have such a hard time getting her to smile for me while I'm pointing that gadget at her (that flashes in her face and bothers her sensitive eyes). Not to mention she's always trying to come at me and grab it out of my hands.
Loved all your post and all your pictures, and those two bunnies sitting in the large eggs were too cute for words. Not as cute Maggie and her bunny though. :)
Ivy, I loved that Easter story you just shared with us. Thank you.
Evening all...
All is calm here...we had dinner at home...with
my mom, aunt, cousins...
Just waiting for the real start of the day....
NYY at Fenway...the quest begins again...
Hope everyone's day went well...
In reply...yes the GTO was mine...wish I still
had it....& yes Solar, it was fast, even though
it was an automatic....too bad, I don't still
have it...
Jan, looks like you were going to a really big
family get together, hope you got to see your new ggd...
Carol, did you guys get your boat ride in today, since I am pretty sure that everyone enjoyed the really good dinner you prepared for them....
Chloe, Will be waiting to see any pics of your
holiday with baby em that you want to share....maybe you'll get at least one pic with a smile....
Ivy, your story of growing up was so vivid, I
could see myself searching for easter eggs with you...& guess those twins were always a little bit devilish...
Will check in later...
"Daffodils"
I WANDER'D lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the Milky Way,
They stretch'd in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.
The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed -- and gazed -- but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:
For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.
~ William Wordsworth
A Host of Golden Daffodils
We are home from the family get together. The highlight of my day was holding and feeding Abigail. She will be 3 months old on 4/11. She was a little cranky b/c she was a little congested. Her grandad (my son) used the little blue bulb syringe her mother had brought - and sucked some gunk (a technical term) out of her nose and then she was just fine. She just smiled so big at me today.
Ivy, thank you so much for your lovely remembrance of past Easters and the beautiful pome by Wordsworth. We are such fortunate creatures that we not only can enjoy a wonderful gift of nature - such as described in the pome, but we can also recall these beautiful times and scenes back into our memories whenever we wish to call them up again. And what a gift to have beautiful poetry.
Well, quiet at last. It was a very nice day. My SF and the wonderful couple, who put up with and help him out often, came first. Everything was ready but the bread.
My SF came in, went to the couch and laid down. He didn't interact. Then he went to bed. I had to make him get up to eat. He didn't go outside and eat with us and was ready to leave as soon as he ate. Now that is someone people want to spend time with?
His friends didn't leave when he wanted to go. They stayed and visited. They even had a sick pony at home that they needed to get back to but they stayed.
They left before the next shift of people arrived. Then there was a third shift. The second shift, which included my rr friend was drinking beer so they just came back to get a plate of food to take home. The beer drinkers don't want to mess up their buzz by eating. My dinner then becomes takee outee, which doesn't really thrill me. When I bust my ass cooking I really want to watch people enjoy it but I do live in Louisiana and that is the culture of the beer drinkers here.
Nice Easter memories Ivy. Thanks for sharing them. Can't wait for the Emma pics. Chloe, I'm not a smiler in pics either. It has to be spontaneous, I can't force it. When I worked as a Diabetes Educator, I often did some TV stuff for a little news program here. Mom used to always say, Carol, you never smile. She didn't give a damn about what I was talking about, she just wanted me to look pretty.
I'm so happy you got to spend time with the wee one Jan. That's great. And granddad was quite useful. He could have let the nurse ggma do it but he didn't. He must have been a great dad.
Ivy, there a Life program on Discovery that is about birds. It is close to being over but repeats at 10p tonight. I missed it also but have it programmed to record later.
We sat outside with the birds, squirrels and ducks. They didn't let our being outside bother them. I was throwing the squirrels peanuts and they came up pretty close. I think if I did that a couple more times, they would be in my lap eating them.
I also enjoyed the pome Ivy.
In that last pic, little Coreen looks a little nervous about big bunny. I bet she was thinking....if he makes one false move with those paws, I'm sueing. That might be when you first thought about becoming an attorney.
"She didn't give a damn about what I was talking about, she just wanted me to look pretty."
You did it again Carol, made me laugh out loud. You have such an honest, humorous way of looking at things.
Just checking in before I start reading. Glad to hear everyone had a good Easter. And happy for Jan, getting to visit with little Abigail - and getting her first big smile from her. Good day all around.
.... don't think Solar's checked back in yet though, and guess Mary's working tonight. Hopefully their day turned out well too.
See you all tomorrow.

Carol, I am laughing so hard at the story of your dinner, I may pee my pants.
Your SF will not change.
Sounds like you had a good day.
Terry is the grandad of Abigail and he is a great dad. He has 4 biol kids. His first, Amie, (Abigail's mom) was born when he was 20 - and his last is the 8 year old who played soccar yesterday. His kids span 20 years. He was so busy doing all the things younger people do when his oldest kids were little. Now, spending time with his kids (and grandkids) comes before everything else. I could tell when Abigail got there, he could hardly wait to hold her. He was telling me the other day how his priorities have changed.
Hi Chloe, waitin for those pics of Emma.
I too laughed when Carol was talking about her mother's emphasis on her "looking pretty" rather than what she was talking about when on TV. I think there was a huge emphasis on appearance (for girls) when I was growing up too. My sister was the "pretty one" and sometimes I felt "less than" I heard from a high school acquaintance the other day (over facebook) and she asked me "How is your sister. She was so pretty." It should not bother me, but it did.
The couple who help out so much with my SF were the ones I really made the dinner for. I wanted to thank them. The others were invited to sop up the massive left overs.
I enjoyed their company and watching them eat. I sent them home with a big Easter basket of candy and told them they could give my SF a few of the eggs, if they wanted to. They really seemed to enjoy both the food and visit.
Carol, sounds like a good day.
Just finished watching a movie, The Brave One, with Jodie Foster. I seldom watch this kind of movie - just a little more adventure and action than I like - But Jodie Foster is one of my favorite actresses. She has acted in some very interesting movies in her career. I am never disappointed in what she does.
I am off to read some more of Zia Summer.
Nitey Nite.
