Anglos are...The same is true for living here in NM. Anglos are in the minority here - those with Hispanic background are the majority and of course the Indian American population is about 10-12%. I learned recently that the Hispanics who live in the Northern parts of NM are originally from Spain and those living in more southern areas are more often from Mexico. Most of these have been here for generations. It makes it soak into you bones. <br /><br />Last week's cool spell got me used to it so that when the temp went back up I was feeling hot at a usually comfortable temp. I don't know if I believe that or not though, because my outside thermometer is missing. We are quite a bit north of Houston, so maybe it's the beginning of a front going south and hasn't gotten there yet, but it's going to be 76 today, so that doesn't makes sense either.<br />We know a guy with a strong cajun accent and I get about half of what he says. We also have a Jamaican friend, and when he gets excited and starts talking real fast, he loses me too. Not too many people in those movies ever get it right. They just sound stupid. <br /><br />When I was working at this pharmacy while going to college, I had more exposure to different people. Some came in with such a strong accent that I couldn't even understand what they were saying and they were speaking English. Made me uncomfortable having to say huh alot. <br /><br />Just had another memory. A guy came in to our pharmacy for some condoms one day. I went to the pharmacist to ask for his help and he told me to go ask the guy what size he needed. I fell for that one.
