For instance, if there were another np ( i think that's what you said you were) after you went home but that person calls you anyway rather than going to the trouble of looking it up themselves. Sometimes people collect monkeys on their back because they like helping out or to help a new person, but then the monkey never goes away, it just keeps getting bigger.

It sounds like the alternative to calling you is shipping people to the hospital, so that wouldn't be the equivalent.

Of course management is never going to change things as long as you keep taking calls, so it's a catch 22.don1onehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03238362644274307579noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2735094423029416610.post-13616677773488206512010-01-08T17:02:31.079-06:002010-01-08T17:02:31.079-06:00.... that's because I'm only 5 ft. 3 Solar....... that's because I'm only 5 ft. 3 Solar.

I'm complaining about the cold a lot, and today's high here was around 28 (unheard of), but everything is going well. Do you know any that I can get for cheap?

It's like this, they don't stop arresting people when I leave for the day. The nurses are there for 12 hours and they are LPNs. That is a very technical nurse that just follows orders. Someone has to give them. The people who are being arrested seem to be sicker and sicker. I have people with transplants, those who need dialysis three times a week, those who have been patched up after being mauled by a police dog and those with gun shot wounds. The hospitals don't like to keep criminal around for long so I get them looking pretty rough.

Many of our inmates have a list of medical problems as long as your arm. Some bring their meds, some do not and don't even know what they are. We have a significant number with diabetes on insulin. I can't continue their home insulin doses because their diet at the jail is different than their diet at home and giving that dose could kill them. I start from scratch there.

Fighting is a frequent occurance in jail, so they end up with broken bones or maybe they fell out of their bunk. Most are withdrawing from multiple drugs and a significant number are, out of control, psychotic and that is why they end up in jail.

I didn't agree, as a condition of taking this job, to even be on call but what can I do, come home, put my feet up and tell them good luck? My nurses wouldn't stand for that. They would need buses to carry them all to the hospital.

I haven't even had a week off in the almost five years I've been there for the same reason. I work for a local charity hospital and am considered a off site clinic. There is no one at that hospital who has nothing to do and can take my place when I am off. When they close a clinic in the hospital there are always other clinic or the ER for the patient to go to. They can't haul everyone of my inmates who need care into the hospital. They would need buses and a team of deputies.

I guess I could say, to hell with it but that's not me. I'm up to 16 calls today and it really hasn't been a bad day. The last call was about a woman who came in vomiting, severe headache, really high blood pressure, pulse rate of 130, just to mention a few of her problems. I got all the data re her health history and then told the nurse what to do for her. Then I pray. Prayer has really worked for me.

I have tried whinning to administration there but they just ignore me. They tell me, just don't answer the phone but they don't have a license to protect and most could really care less. Of course, they wouldn't hesitate to point at me if anything went wrong.Carolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10040510292724803196noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2735094423029416610.post-39311233695835113382010-01-08T15:17:41.504-06:002010-01-08T15:17:41.504-06:00Solar,
