John can be a little impatient at times. A night in emergency and a few $$$ later, he realizes that patience is indeed a virtue- and can save lives and money. The one good thing about the night in emergency is that his heart is great and he is in good health. He did get a big lump on top of his head b/c he hit something on his way down to the ground when he fainted.janhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03444805355043272927noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2735094423029416610.post-26357354526510689952009-11-13T10:53:59.858-06:002009-11-13T10:53:59.858-06:00Carol, I began thinking of retiring about 3 years ...Carol, I began thinking of retiring about 3 years ago, but was still having fun teaching. In August John had a fainting spell when he was trying to fix a flat tire and I thought he was having a heart attack. When he was out for a minute or so - I thought he had died. That was a "wake-up call" that we are not doing the things we want to do together.janhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03444805355043272927noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2735094423029416610.post-69180553329882208682009-11-13T10:42:59.736-06:002009-11-13T10:42:59.736-06:00Several years ago on a trip to florida we stopped ...Several years ago on a trip to florida we stopped overnight in Gulfport Mississipi. On a walk on the beach we found a pretty shell and took it back to the motel with us along with some other smaller shells and placed them on the carpet. The next morning as I was gathering our belongings to leave, I noticed the larger shell was missing. I searched the floor and found the shell on the other side of the room. John told me this was a hermit crab. We began calling her Shelley. I had not visited many beaches before so this was a new creature to me. We took Shelley to North Carolina where we were staying for a week and put her on Wrightsville Beach just outside Wilmington. After reading Carol's story about the turtle - I now wonder if I screwed up Shelley's life. Maybe she had babies or a partner in Mississipi that she would never see again.janhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03444805355043272927noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2735094423029416610.post-48612154526539983572009-11-13T10:29:03.439-06:002009-11-13T10:29:03.439-06:00Deer are such beautiful little creatures. I came up on this little turtle crawling slowly, in the middle of nowhere. I thought I would help that little turtle out so I picked it up and we drove that little turtle to a little lake that was there. I was sure that that it where it wanted to go. I set it down on the bank of the lake.

The little turtle had this real disgusted look on it's face. It turned away from the lake and headed back in the same direction it had been traveling. I probably just set that turtle back a couple of weeks on it's journey. Might have even died trying to make up for lost time.

The moral of that story is....don't think you are doing nature a favor by deciding what it needs, just let nature take it's own course.

I bet I got some bad turtle karma from that. I just recently worked off my bad snake karma. I think I did that when that snake dropped off my roof and almost hit me on the head.
